This Memorial Day weekend, SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom hit the big screen in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture event. After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.

Based on the TV series created by Stephen Hillenburg, The SpongeBob Movie is produced by Ryan Harris, with Stephen Hillenburg exec producing. Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies present, in association with MRC A United Plankton Pictures production. Written and directed by Tim Hill.

An actor named Antonio Raul Corbo will be voicing young SpongeBob.

SpongeBob and Patrick Set Out to Find Missing Gary in 'SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run' Trailer

Tom Kenny, Awkwafina, Reggie Watts and Keanu Reeves all lend their voices to the upcoming Paramount film about the absorbent, porous and yellow creature who lives in a pineapple under the sea.

SpongeBob's beloved pet Gary is snailnapped in the trailer for the Paramount Pictures animated film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

When Gary the Snail goes missing, SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke) set out on a journey to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary back to Bikini Bottom. As they navigate the ups and downs of the rescue mission, SpongeBob and his friend prove that there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.

Awkwafina, Reggie Watts and Keanu Reeves also voice characters in the film directed by Tim Hill, while Cyndi Lauper wrote original songs for the film.

The trailer opens with SpongeBob enthusiastically opening up The Krusty Krab. "I love my life," he declares as the restaurant's customers cheer for him.

Back at home, SpongeBob tells Gary that he loves him and they reminisce about the day they met. A flashback then shows a young SpongeBob at Camp Coral. After he falls down a set of stairs, SpongeBob meets the snail and he asks his future pet if they could be friends. The snail responds by throwing up on SpongeBob.

When the trailer returns to present day, SpongeBob realizes that Gary has disappeared. "Gary's been snailnapped," he concludes.

SpongeBob soon recruits Patrick to help find Gary and the best friends set out on an epic adventure. While on their quest, they cross paths with a pile of sage that Reeves' head floats in the middle of. "Call me Sage," says Reeves' character. "I'm made out of sage and I am a sage. So it works out pretty well."

[When Patrick haughtily responds that his name means “toaster” in Celtic, Reeves deadpans, “I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.”]

The sponge and starfish later arrive at The Lost City of Atlantic City, where they become easily distracted by cotton candy, ice cream, churros and gambling.

"This is gonna be like a buddy movie," Patrick says as they drive in a car. SpongeBob replies, "Oh, I love your sense of irony, Patrick." The starfish responds by breaking out his ironing board and running an iron over a sweater. "I love my sense of ironing, too."

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will be in theaters on May 22. Watch the full trailer above.

He was seemingly everywhere in 2019.

And that trend seems destined to continue for Keanu Reeves in 2020, with the actor making an amusing cameo in the trailer for the forthcoming SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run on Thursday.

The 55-year-old John Wick star and his famous face plays a tumbleweed named Sage in the two minute preview, which focuses on SpongeBob SquarePants' search for his 'snailnapped' pet Gary.

The trailer opens with SpongeBob declaring 'I love my life'.

He then tells his pet snail, 'I love you so much Gary,' before the trailer cuts to a flashback of the day the pair met.

We then see a young SpongeBob at summer camp, where he meets Gary, a snail who meows like a cat.

'Do you want to be friends?' the anthropomorphized sponge asks the mollusk, and when Gary vomits atop SpongeBob's head, their friendship is sealed.

Returning to the present day, things soon take a turn for the worse when SpongeBob returns home to find Gary missing.

'Gary's been snailnapped!' shouts the Tom Kenny voiced character.

'Friends don't let friends go on dangerous quests alone,' declares Patrick Star, as the buds hit the road in search of Gary.

Their first encounter on their quest is with a mystical tumbleweed named Sage (Keanu Reeves).

'Call me Sage,' says the Knock Knock star's character, 'I'm made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well.'

'I'm Patrick,' says the Bill Fagerbakke-voiced starfish. 'My name means "toaster" in Celtic.'

'I'm pretty sure it doesn't,' replies a skeptical Sage.

Next, the duo stop at 'the lost city of Atlantic City,' whereupon Patrick warns his companion not to 'lose focus'.

Then, naturally, the pair are instantly hypnotized by the bright lights and big noises of the gambling mecca.

We're next treated to images of the duo losing their cool in casinos and gambling dangerously - and naively.

At one point, Patrick instructs SpongeBob to put all their money 'on L' - after looking at the number 7 upside down.

Sponge on the Run will be the third theatrically released film based on the long-running Nickleodeon TV series.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie hit screens in 2004 and grossed over $140million globally.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, was released in theaters on February 6, 2015.

London, UK - Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has set the premiere date for Nickelodeon's brand-new music competition series, America’s Most Musical Family: Friday 8th November 2019 at 7:30pm. 30 talented family bands performing in all genres take center stage in front of celebrity judges Grammy Award-winning global superstar Ciara, digital media sensation David Dobrik, pop icon and Broadway star Debbie Gibson and show host, singer and television personality Nick Lachey to compete for a recording contract with Republic Records and the chance to win a $250,000 cash prize in partnership with Capri Sun 100% Juice. Bands taking part range from a father/daughter duo, sibling groups and a 12-member multigenerational brass ensemble. The bands will battle it out over the course of 12 hour-long episodes and one half-hour special.

America’s Most Musical Family kicks off with the following five family bands ready to battle it out with their very own take on hit songs: Nashville, Tennessee’s eight-member group The Rees Family (“Walking on Sunshine”); New Jersey’s band of brothers, Wanmor, whose father is Wanye from Boyz II Men (“It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”); From Rancho Santa Margarita, California, harmonizing sisters and human beat box brother Juat Sibs (“Honeymoon Avenue”); Brother and sister duo Juna N Joey from West Palm Beach, Florida (“Beautiful Crazy”); and San Jacinto, California’s sibling quartet The Mitchells (“We Got the Beat”).


America’s Most Musical Family will make its world debut on Nickelodeon USA on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

Nickelodeon India has announced the nominees for Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2019 India!


Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2019 India is India's most unique award show, and celebrates kids’ favorites from the worlds of movies, television and more! Like previous years, Nickelodeon's fifth Kids' Choice Awards 2019 India will feature lots of Bollywood Superstars setting the stage on fire with India's favourite Nicktoons! The host of KCA 2019 India, along with the venue and date of when the most awaited kids award show comes to life and the events TV air date will be announced in the coming weeks.

Live Company Group plc (AIM: LVCG) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement for the expansion of the territories in which it can produce and exhibit themed tours associated with the Nickelodeon brand, including Nick Jr. as well as an update in respect of the Group’s BRICKLIVE Zoo programme.

NICKELODEON

On 12 June 2019, the Company announced it had secured a partnership with Nickelodeon UK Limited (“Nickelodeon UK”) to produce themed tours associated with Nickelodeon’s properties, including PAW Patrol, Top Wing and Shimmer and Shine throughout the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

Following successful tours in the UK, the Group’s wholly owned subsidiary, Brick Live International Limited (“BLIL”), has entered into an addendum to the UK agreement with Nickelodeon UK and Viacom International Media Networks (“VIMN”) (the “Agreement”).

Under the terms of the Agreement, the parties have agreed to expand the territories in which the Group can produce and exhibit themed tours associated with the Nickelodeon brand, including Nick Jr., to cover all countries globally (excluding the United States of America, including Puerto Rico). The parties also agreed that Nickelodeon UK’s rights, obligations and liabilities under the UK Agreement shall be novated to VIMN.
The Group will continue to have the rights, through to the end of 2024, to produce and create themed tours associated with certain Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. properties, including, inter alia, PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants and Top Wing, in return for a royalty fee based on the revenues of the themed tours.

What Live Company does

Live Company Group PLC (LON:LVCG) holds events that use LEGO bricks to both educate and entertain adults and children through its BRICKLIVE brand.

What it owns

Brick Live Group holds BRICKLIVE, an interactive event that allows people to learn, build and play with LEGO bricks.

Bright Bricks, acquired by Live Company last October, is a professional LEGO brick building firm. How it is doing

Live Company said this year's profits will be “heavily weighted” to the second half.

In November, it expanded its five-year agreement with children’s entertainment group Nickelodeon to hold themed BRICKLIVE events across more countries following successful tours in the UK.

The AIM-listed firm will produce and exhibit BRICKLIVE tours themed around Nickelodeon shows and characters in all countries except the US until the end of 2024.

The BRICKLIVE Super Series of events, held across Europe from mid-September to early November, attracted nearly 85,000 visitors over the six shows, for a total of 70 shows over the full year.

In the six months to 30 June, the AIM-listed firm made an expected £1mln loss as opposed to £520,000 profit the year prior, due to costs related to the integration of Bright Bricks.

The latter was acquired in October 2018 for £8.5mln and has secured the entertainment group’s brick supply and increased its competitive advantage, meanwhile raising barriers to entry for other firms in brick-based entertainment. Live Company is in talks with the sellers to defer the consideration of the acquisition.

Sales dipped below £2mln from £2.8mln in the first six months of 2018, which Live Company said was because of an “unusually high” sale last year of Animal Paradise in China, which totalled US$800,000.

Inflexion points

• In 2020 it will organise its first BRICKLIVE show in South Africa, following a joint venture deal with event organiser WORLDSPORT

• In August, the media group signed a deal with entertainment firm Imagine Exhibitions Inc to help expand its BRICKLIVE tours in North America for a five-year term

• The company has signed with an arm of France’s largest exhibitors and venue operators, GL Events, for staging and promotion of its first BRICKLIVE show in France at the Parcs Des Expositions in Toulouse, to be held between 19 and 27 October

What the broker says

In a note in June, analysts at Shard Capital forecast that Live Company would deliver an underlying pre-tax profit of £200,000 in its current financial year, which would then rise to £1.7mln in 2020 and £3.6mln in 2021.

Analysts also said that the deal Nickelodeon was “transformational” for the Company and would allow it to benefit commercially from leasing assets built using Nickelodeon’s intellectual properties (IPs) while also potentially opening the door to more IP deals with other major content partners.

Shard added that the market fundamentals for the group’s BRICKLIVE shows were “strong” with leisure spending showing historic long-term growth in addition to higher levels of disposable income from emerging economies which was fuelling the wider travel and leisure sectors.

Shard’s valuation has given a one-year range for Live Company of between 73p and 89p per share, which suggested “limited downside risk” alongside strong potential to outperform as newsflow underpinned its longer-term growth prospects.

Blue Sky

The company is planning to increase its presence in the southern hemisphere to maximise the use of assets during the European winter months.

Following the shows in Toulouse, France with GL Events, Ciclitira says that the company hopes to sign a longer partnership agreement to extend its presence in the country.

The entertainment group has also signed a three-year deal to tour in South Korea, first with its 'Mythical Beasts' exhibition running until August 2020, and raking in US$300,000 a year.

In September its subsidiary Brick Live International signed a deal with Snowman Enterprises to run a themed 'The Snowman and The Snowdog' tour across the UK and Ireland until January 2022.

Viacom International Studios UK Taps Richard Hastings as Head of Non-Scripted Programming

Reflecting the recent surge of business at the content giant’s BAFTA award-winning subsidiary, Viacom International Studios UK (VIS UK) has hired Richard Hastings as its head of non-scripted programming.


In the newly created posting, the former MultiStory Media executive is to oversee the development and production of all non-scripted output for Viacom channels and platforms in the UK as well as third-party partners.

Additionally, the veteran industry exec, who will start in his new post in February 2020, will be responsible for building out a non-scripted team while working closely alongside commissioners and in-house teams to grow existing brands and create new series and specials.

He will report into Jill Offman, Managing Director (MD) for VIS UK.

Most recently, Hastings served as creative director of entertainment and specials at ITV Studios-owned MultiStory Media (formerly Shiver).

During his four-year tenure there, his production credits included All Star Musicals (ITV), Britain’s Best Junior Doctors (BBC), Katie Price: My Crazy Life (Quest Red) and My Millionaire Migrant Boss (C4).

Prior to ITV, Hastings was head of factual entertainment development and executive producer at BBC Entertainment where he created such formats as BBC3′s Don’t Drop the Baby and Young Talent of the Year, and BBC2′s You Make Me Feel Like Dancing. Before this, he was head of development at Prospect Pictures where he devised BBC’s Saturday Kitchen and C4′s Take Away My Takeaway.

“Richard has an impressive track record for creating non-scripted content for both in-house and third-party commissioners and brings with him significant expertise and invaluable experience," said Offman in a statement.

“Richard joins us at a time of ambitious growth and having someone dedicated to non-scripted will not only drive our award-winning production studios to the next level but ensures that we deliver the highest quality programming to audiences across the UK and beyond.”

Hastings added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Jill and the team at Viacom International Studios UK. This is an exciting time for a studio that has already produced a slate of exciting programming and has a clear vision for the future. I can’t wait to play my part in its future success.”

Last week Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) appointed Pierluigi Gazzolo as president of OTT International and VIS.

Gazzolo, who has worked at Viacom since 2009, is currently President of VIMN Americas and Executive Vice President (EVP) of Nickelodeon International. Under his leadership, VIS was launched following the 2016 acquisitions of Telefe and Porta dos Fundos.

In his new role, Gazzolo will initially focus on accelerating the rollout of streaming service Pluto TV across international markets, starting with its Latin America launch in early 2020.

La exitosa serie de Nickelodeon presentará ‘El tiempo avanza al revés’ en el Teatro Gran Rex, será el próximo 30 noviembre con una doble función.

“Poder estar con el público tan cerca es algo que nos emociona a todos”, comenta de primera el actor mexicano Martín Barba, quien interpreta a Aurek, uno de los “Guardianes del Tiempo” dentro de la serie Club 57. La serie musical de Nickelodeon que se transmite para toda Latinoamérica llevará su mundo al teatro por primera vez, y el debut será en el Gran Rex de Argentina.

La serie televisiva, cuenta la historia de Eva, protagonizada por Evaluna Montaner y su hermano Rubén (Sebastián Silva), quienes descubren una máquina del tiempo creada por su abuelo que accidentalmente los lleva a 1957. En este inesperado viaje en el tiempo, Eva se enamora de JJ (Ricardo Frascari) y decide quedarse, pero su decisión desencadena un efecto mariposa que podría cambiar sus vidas para siempre.

Su show musical en el Teatro Gran Rex, que contará con todas las canciones de la serie, será un spin-off de la trama que relata la serie de televisión previo al comienzo de su segunda temporada.

El 30 de noviembre se presentarán en el afamado recinto porteño con un espectáculo que cuenta con una producción descomunal. El debut será con una doble función, a las 17 hs y a las 19 hs (este ya tiene entradas agotadas). Los tickets se pueden conseguir por sistema Ticketek, desde $450.

Club 57 sigue las aventuras de Eva y su hermano Rubén, quienes accidentalmente se transportan al año 1957. Hacen todo lo posible para volver a casa, hasta que Eva se enamora de JJ y decide quedarse en el pasado, desencadenando un efecto mariposa que cambia sus vidas para peor en vez de mejor. Con una mezcla de música, baile y aventuras de viajes en el tiempo, Eva debe ahora ingeniarse la manera de volver al presente sin renunciar a su primer amor.

La ficción está creada por la guionista Catharina Ledoboer, quien ha escrito múltiples éxitos para Nickelodeon, incluyendo Every Witch Way (cuatro temporadas), WITS Academy y Talia in the Kitchen para Nickelodeon EEUU; y tres exitosas temporadas de Grachi, la novela juvenil de Nickelodeon Latinoamérica.

Sin embargo, sorprendió a todos al decir que según sus creencias, se mantendrá "virgen" hasta el día de la boda, que será en febrero del año que viene. "Se que es distinto. A mucha gente que me conoce le parece muy raro, pero pues no me importa compartirlo ni decir que de verdad ha cambiado nuestra relación. Empezó por lo enamorados que estábamos, se creó de esa manera y siguió creciendo teniendo a Dios en la mitad. La serie juvenil lleva la música compuesta por su padre y hermanos.

El éxito de la serie juvenil “Club 57”, de Nickelodeon, permitió que ahora llegue el espectáculo musical al teatro Gran Rex, con artistas y bailarines en escena. La banda sonora original fue compuesta por Ricardo Montaner, en conjunto con sus hijos Mauricio y Ricardo, el actor y cantante Camilo Echeverry, y la protagonista de la serie y también hija suya, Evaluna Montaner. “Club 57” cuenta la historia de Eva y su hermano quienes descubren una máquina del tiempo creada por su abuelo que, accidentalmente los lleva a 1957 (dos años más tarde que el clásico “Volver al futuro”). Las funciones serán el 30 de noviembre y 1 de diciembre. Dialogamos con Evaluna Montaner.

Periodista: Gran parte de la serie transcurre en 1957, ¿investigaron los hábitos y costumbres de esa época? ¿Cuál es la principal diferencia con el presente?

Evaluna Montaner: Mi personaje vive en 2019 y viaja al pasado. En las preproducciones se hicieron las clases de comportamiento de cómo se actuaba en los 50 pero no me incluyeron adrede, para que mi sorpresa fuera más auténtica. Veía cómo mis compañeros hacían cosas que hoy no se hacen. La diferencia más grande tiene que ver con la conexión y la comunicación. No había celulares, email, mensajes de texto... La comunicación era radicalmente diferente. Lo corporal, la mirada, tenían un papel mucho más importante. Eso, por supuesto, se fue perdiendo con el tiempo. La serie imagina cómo sería transportar esos valores, esa forma de comunicación, al presente.

P.: ¿Cuál es el propósito de la serie?

E.M.: Recuperar la importancia de la familia, examinar el efecto del “aleteo de la mariposa”, que supone que cualquier cosa que ocurre, por más alejada que esté, tiene sus efectos. Hoy son valores que se consideran conservadores, pero el éxito que tiene revela que quienes los comparten no son pocos. Al contrario.

P.: ¿Por qué cree que atrapa al público infantil y juvenil?

E.M.: Las canciones también influyen; a mí me fascinan, no me canso de ellas, y eso es bueno dado que ahora en los ensayos para el teatro las escuchamos todo el tiempo. Y el tema de los viajes en el tiempo, desde H.G. Wells hasta hoy, ha tenido siempre un enorme atractivo. Y gusta mucho ver esos años 50 pero modernizados.

P.: ¿La obra teatral cuenta con un argumento propio o sólo es un recital de canciones?

E.M.: Hay una historia que es como un spinoff, es Club 57, el show dentro del show.

P.: ¿Cómo fue componer en familia la banda sonora de la tira?

E.M.: Me generó mucha confianza, me hizo creer más en lo que hago. Tenía al lado a mi padre, mi hermano, mi novio, era como tener una clase intensiva de cómo escribir una canción. Aprendí muchísmo, nos divertimos.

P.: ¿Cómo es la relación con su padre?

E.M.: Soy su favorita, lo que más me gusta saber es que él está orgulloso. Está tan involucrado en esta serie, ahora también con la gira, y ayuda mucho la motivación en casa.

Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) has announced the exciting news that it's latest original live-action series, Club 57, has become a hit with fans, garnering strong ratings in the region!

Since its premiere on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica and Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) in May 2019, the series has led the ratings in key demographics in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, achieving great ratings on Pay TV throughout the region and on FTA channel Telefe in Argentina.

On Nickelodeon Latinoamérica, the series ranked #1 in Argentina, including all children's channels in the target of girls aged 4-11 and 7-14, and #2 with boys aged 4-11, while in Mexico Club 57 ranked #1 with girls aged 7-14.

In Brazil, the series ranked #2 with girls aged 7-14 and with boys aged 7-14, and in Colombia the series ranked #2 with girls 7-14.

On FTA channel Telefe in Argentina, Club 57 was the number-one show in its timeslot, achieving the #1 position during its broadcast from May to July. More than 17.8 million viewers throughout Pay TV and TVA have tuned into the series since its premiere.

Update (25/11) - Since launching on Biggs in Portugal, Club 57 has become a ratings winner in the country, with episodes reaching around 80,000 viewers, making the series appear regularly in the list of the TOP 25 of pay-TV programs in Portugal!

Club 57 is a brand-new time-travelling themed series that tells the story of a 14-year-old tech loving girl who accidentally travels back in time. Stuck in the past, she discovers her passion for music, and falls in love. The first season of Club 57 features 60 one-hour episodes.

Club 57 launched as Nickelodeon Latinoamérica celebrates 10 years of local productions, and also marks Nickelodeon's 10th locally produced show for audiences in Latin America and Brazil.

Club 57 has also been a success beyond it's linear broadcasts, with the series also becoming the #1 property on Nick Play, the channel's digital platform, with 1.8 million views.

Additionally, the music videos of the series including titles such as Ladrona, El Tiempo Corre Al Revés and Algo Bueno Va Pasar, among others, have achieved a combined total of 30 million views to date on the Nickelodeon Latin America YouTube channel.

El canal para niños aumentó sus ratings un 30% desde octubre de 2018, logrando el mayor crecimiento de la categoría infantil.

Nickelodeon anunció un nuevo crecimiento en ratings en Argentina durante el mes de julio de 2019.

El canal continúa conquistando audiencias y se ubica en el top 3 en los canales de TV paga infantiles, con una diferencia de 0,002 respecto al top 2.

Nickelodeon incrementó su rating un +30% (rat% 0.58) desde octubre de 2018 a la fecha logrando el mayor crecimiento de la categoría infantil.

El canal se posicionó en el podio de los canales infantiles en Argentina ocupando de manera sostenida el tercer lugar, subiendo 3 posiciones con respecto al año pasado.

Pierluigi Gazzolo on Viacom International Studios, the Spanish-language Market

CANNES — The L.A. Screenings represented the coming out of Viacom International Studios, which hit the market, then Conecta Fiction in Spain, with a powerful presentation of trailers.

The Conecta Fiction lineup signaled that VIS is also open to co-production and collaboration with creators in not only Latin America but far beyond; “To Catch a Thief” is written by one of Spain’s foremost TV creators, Javier Olivares;“Victoria Small,” Daniel Burman’s daily scripted comedy drama hit is produced with The Mediapro Studio; “Bad People” with “La Casa de Papel” original producers Atresmedia.

Also on the Conecta Fiction presentation was the “Red Dot,” a fantasy romantic thriller produced in Spain; “Spirit House,” originated by “Final Destination” creator Jeffrey Reddick, and produced with Convergence Entertainment; “Before I Forget,” a reversion from Turkey’s Ay Yapim.

In the run-up to Mipcom, it didn’t seem that a day went by without an announcement from VIS or Viacom Intl. Media Networks – Americas. During that period, Pierluigi Gazzolo, president of Viacom Intl. Media Networks – Americas, updated Variety on the dramatic build of VIS, and trends sweeping Latin America, and that the boom in its programming is not just a question of language.

Could you talk about what you think are the main trends of production in drama series?

Viacom has always been an IP-driven company. We’ve always been about content, and in the ’90s, in LATAM, our focus was primarily on the network business. The reality is that in addition to the networks, we own 95% of our content. We have always said we must continue expanding. The media world is changing, and owning IP is key. In Latin America specifically, we’ve long had the U.S. properties, but we also created content for our Latin American networks: Nickelodeon, MTV, and Comedy Central. We then added Telefe, which as you know is one of the largest producers of content in Argentina, and then we acquired Porta dos Fundos, which is one of the top YouTube channels in Brazil, focused on TV-quality comedy content. We took these three and said: Let’s put them together, and that is how we created Viacom International Studios. Since then, from the beginning of 2018, we’ve grown significantly in revenues, and we’ve produced about 900 hours of content. We are expecting to continue growing our revenues at very high levels of nearly 60% this year.

60% in 2019?

Correct. We expect to grow nearly 60% in studio revenues compared to last year. Within Latin America the Studio has become a powerhouse production house, creating content for our channels and third parties. We create content for SVODs like Amazon and Netflix, and broadcasters like Mega and TV Azteca. In some cases, we even create content for our competition. It really has become a full-fledged studio.

Can you give a few examples?

For the first time,Telefe is exporting is content outside not only Argentina, but outside of Latin America, going to the U.S. For example, we recently announced that we closed a deal with Paramount TV to produce “100 Days To Fall In Love,” which was a hit format created and developed by Viacom International Studios for Telefe and Underground Producciones in Argentina for Showtime. It was a big hit in Argentina, with a 60% audience market share. We are also having conversations with countries in Europe to sell them the format to produce their own versions of our hit novelas.

Another example of Viacom International Studios creating great content for export is in Brazil with our hit YouTube comedy channel, Porta dos Fundos. A few weeks ago, we signed an agreement with YouTube Originals to produce a new reality series, “The New Future Ex Porta Actor,” which will document the search for a new comedian to join the Porta Dos Fundos’ cast exclusively for YouTube. This summer, we launched the Spanish-language version of the comedy platform, called “Backdoor,” which has already reached over 2 million subscribers and we just announced last week an agreement with Amazon Prime Video to acquire the first season of “Backdoor – Humor por donde no lo esperas” (Backdoor- Comedy Where You Don’t Expect It) (20 eps. x 30 seconds). The series will feature brand new comedy sketches by Backdoor and premiered on Comedy Central Latin America on Sept. 9, with the full series coming to Prime Video in Latin America later this year.

Quite a lot of the shows you were showing at Conecta Fiction are co-productions, is that correct?

Yes. Sometimes we develop on our own from the start, but we also like to work with third parties that we respect. We recently partnered with Mediapro Studio to produce “Victoria Small.” In its first week of air in Argentina, it reached 50% market share viewing. It’s our next big hit. It has the promise to be the next format to travel around the world, similar to “100 Days to Fall in Love.” So yes, we work with co-production partners, and sometimes we also do pre-buys with partners; however, we always seek to own the majority of the production and retain distribution rights.

How would you judge the demand for scripted content or Spanish language scripted content now?

There is so much content being produced right now, that I said to myself: “Where is it going to go?” But the reality is that the psychology of consumption has changed, and people need more and more content to watch. They want more choices and distributors and platforms want to offer more choices. The average consumer has more headspace to watch much more, so I think it will continue. I think their desire for content was underestimated in the past. There will always be more demand in our view of consumption. That’s the exciting part.

And demand for a specific type of content?

We develop the story, so it is ready to be exported. Even shows that have stayed in Spanish for distribution like Atresmedia/Netflix’’s “La Casa de Papel” go worldwide. It’s a very exciting time, and I think Latin America and Spain will continue to be big players.

Is that because we are a very big language market?

Yes, but it’s important to note that it is not just the language. Even within Latin countries there are complexities of culture. Argentine versions are not the same as in Chile, even though they are right next to one another. Same for Chilean and Mexico. So, there’s nothing that can replace the passion and knowledge in a script. We have become very good storytellers, and I think the world recognizes that. So when I say Latin America and Spain will continue to be big players, I’m referring to how we tell stories and how our formats can travel around the world regardless of language.

Frank Biondi Jr., former head of Viacom and Universal Studios, dies at 74

Frank Biondi Jr., who became one of the leading architects of the modern-day media industry while leading companies such as Viacom, Universal Studios and HBO, died early Monday.

Biondi, who was 74, died of bladder cancer at his home in Los Angeles, his daughter Jane Biondi Munna told The Times.

A highly regarded businessman, Biondi helped build HBO and Viacom into formidable entertainment companies and oversaw some of the most important media brands during the 1980s and 1990s. He also served as chairman and chief executive of Universal Studios, and held key entertainment executive roles at Sesame Workshop and Coca-Cola, when it owned Columbia Pictures.

Biondi was a sharp and low-key business executive who understood complicated finances but was also known for his calm, pleasant and straightforward demeanor, often in sharp contrast with the sometimes difficult personalities he worked for.

Hailing from suburban New Jersey, he became a star baseball player before enrolling in Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1966.

Later, armed with an MBA from Harvard, he had a short career as a financial analyst on Wall Street.

But after the market hammered cable stocks in the early 1970s, he found refuge in a nonprofit called the Children’s Television Workshop, which produced such classics as “Sesame Street” and “Electric Company.”

In the mid-1970s, he was offered the job of head of movie acquisition for Home Box Office, a role he turned down. But the HBO executives were persistent and Biondi joined the budding cable network in 1978, a role he got with the help of longtime friend Michael Fuchs.

“I thought this was really a silly job, to be honest with you, because you paid $.30 - $.40 a movie,” Biondi said in an interview with the industry group now known as the Cable Center. “It sounded like an accountant’s job. So I turned him down. They were mystified. How could I do that?”

He became the president and chief executive of HBO in 1983 and helped establish the successful model of a premium subscription channel with boxing and blockbuster Hollywood movies.

“Frank is not a flamboyant person, as you know,” Fuchs once told the Associated Press. “He picks his spots and picks his words. He’s thoughtful. That puts him in the minority of high visibility entertainment executives.”

Biondi is best known for his lengthy tenure as president and CEO of Viacom, the parent company of MTV, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. He joined the media giant, controlled by chairman Sumner Redstone, in 1987.

During Biondi’s run at Viacom, the firm transformed itself from a debt-heavy cable and theater company into an entertainment colossus by acquiring Paramount Communications and Blockbuster Video for a total of $18 billion.

Biondi, known for his quick mind and facility with numbers, was credited with helping Redstone quickly integrate Viacom’s divisions after the purchases of Paramount and Blockbuster, two of the biggest acquisitions in the New York company’s history. He was widely described as a calm and easygoing foil to the sharp-elbowed Redstone.

During his run, the company’s successes including the Oscar-winning film “Braveheart,” the irreverent MTV cartoon “Beavis and Butt-Head” and the TV sitcom “Fraiser.”

Redstone, however, surprised investors in 1996 when he fired Biondi, saying he wanted the company to “move faster” and that Biondi’s management approach wasn’t working. Biondi, at the time, said he disagreed with the decision but accepted it.

“Sumner came in my office about 3:30 on ... I don’t even remember what day of the week it was anymore,” Biondi recalled in the 2000 Cable Center interview. “He said, ‘I want to make a change. I always wanted to run my own company. It’s been great. I’ll be great.’”

Biondi was immediately hired by Seagram Co. scion Edgar Bronfman Jr. to lead the liquor company’s entertainment enterprise, Universal Studios, formerly known as MCA. However, the entertainment division, in which Seagram had acquired an 80% stake in 1995, was struggling with film flops and executive turmoil as the parent company tried to manage its film, TV, music and theme parks business.

Biondi was fired in 1998 amid a broader shakeup of the company by Bronfman, who was criticized for leading the entertainment division without a clear strategy. Leadership of entertainment brands, including its movie and TV studio and theme parks business, fell to Ron Meyer. Biondi, at the time, said it was clear Bronfman wanted “to run the business himself.”

Leaving Universal after just over two years in the job, Biondi exited with a hefty settlement, reportedly worth more than $25 million, from Seagram.

Since 1999, Biondi has served as senior managing director of WaterView Advisors and was on the boards of several companies, including Madison Square Garden, AMC Networks and STX Entertainment. Robert Simonds, the head of STX Entertainment, is Biondi’s son-in-law.

An avid tennis player, Biondi also helped finance the 2001 launch of the Tennis Channel, now owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Biondi is survived by Carol Biondi, his wife of 45 years, as well as daughters Anne Biondi Simonds and Jane Biondi Munna.

Biondi was the consummate example of the kind of polished, Ivy League-trained business executives who rose through the ranks in the entertainment industry in the 1980s and ‘90s. He was a respected leader known as a whiz with financial data and high-level dealmaking, but he left the creative side of network and studio operations to others.

Biondi was remembered by friends and colleagues as a key player in shaping the contemporary media and entertainment industries. Robert Simonds, chairman-CEO of STX Entertainment who is married to Biondi’s daughter Anne, considered him a mentor.

“Anne and I are devastated to lose Frank so young,” Simonds said. “He was not only an icon and mentor to me, as he was to so many in our industry, he was a noble, kind and beloved father to us and an extraordinary grandfather to our children. We cherish the life and memories we shared and we will proudly carry on his legacy.”

Highly regarded as plain-spoken and gentlemanly, he was content to stay out of the direct spotlight for a decade while working for the larger-than-life Viacom mogul Sumner Redstone. He was famously fired by Redstone in January 1996 after a nine-year run as Viacom’s CEO — a move that helped cement Redstone’s reputation as a mercurial boss.

Biondi was immediately courted by Seagrams’ Edgar Bronfman Jr., then the new owner of Universal Studios. (Redstone tried unsuccessfully to block Biondi from joining the rival studio.) But barely two years later Biondi was ousted in a restructuring amid a slump at Universal and the arrival of Barry Diller as a business partner of Bronfman. After Universal, Biondi never returned to a major executive role.

In 1999, Biondi and several partners formed WaterView Advisors, an investment firm focused on media and technology companies. WaterView had a rocky run in its first few years following the initial dot-com collapse.

In January 2006, activist investor Carl Icahn enlisted Biondi as his choice to be CEO of Time Warner as Icahn waged a proxy fight to shake up the board and management of the company that was still reeling from the AOL merger debacle. Icahn’s proxy battle was settled a few months later.

He was much in demand as a director for public media and tech firms. In recent years, Biondi served on the boards of AMC Networks, Madison Square Garden Co. and ViaSat. His past board seats included Cablevision Systems Corporation, RealD, Hasbro, Yahoo! and Harrah’s Entertainment.

Biondi grew up in New Jersey, the son of a Bell Telephone executive. After graduating from Livingston High School in 1962, he earned a BA in psychology from Princeton University in 1966 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1968.

Biondi’s early career included serving as assistant treasurer from 1974 to 1978 at “Sesame Street” producer Children’s Television Workshop. He moved on to Time Inc. as a VP from 1978 to 1984. He took on additional duties as CEO of Time Inc.’s HBO in 1982. Two years later, Biondi exited Time Inc. after he was replaced as HBO CEO by Michael Fuchs. Biondi moved on to become CEO of Coca-Cola Television from 1985 to 1987, during the period when the soft drink giant owned Columbia Pictures.

In 1987, Biondi was recruited by Redstone to run Viacom, the home of MTV, Nickelodeon and other cable channels, which Redstone acquired the same year. Biondi was a key player five years later when Redstone battled Barry Diller for ownership of Paramount Pictures.

He married ABC research executive Carol Oughton in 1974. His other survivors include a daughter, Jane.

NEW YORK--Nickelodeon is celebrating 20 years of its iconic SpongeBob SquarePants series with a brand-new high-flying balloon at the 93rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. The new balloon features everyone’s favorite subaquatic sponge and his beloved pet snail Gary. The nationally televised holiday spectacle will also feature a brand-new float inspired by the network’s highly anticipated preschool series Blue’s Clues &You!, a remake of the groundbreaking interactive series, Blue’s Clues, which premieres on Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

SpongeBob SquarePants, will make his 15th appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In 2004, SpongeBob made history as the Parade’s first-ever square balloon and this year, he will take to the sky with his pet snail Gary in tow, as he makes his way through the Big Apple on his Thanksgiving hiatus from Bikini Bottom. The brand-new SpongeBob balloon, which stands at 44-feet high, 36-feet wide and 46-feet long takes on his unique shape with the help of more than 800 internal tie-lines that pull the single chamber sphere balloon into a square.

Nickelodeon’s playful pup Blue, will be making a return to the annual holiday spectacle on a brand-new float that will showcase a 22-foot tall Blue, inspired by the look and feel of the new series Blue’s Clues & You!, a remake of the groundbreaking interactive series, Blue’s Clues. Covered in 13 pounds of glitter, Blue will shine down the Parade route as she greets fans of all ages. Making an appearance alongside Blue will be the new live-action host of Blue’s Clues & You! Joshua Dela Cruz.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will also feature three fan-favorite returning Nickelodeon elements: from their underground lair to the streets of New York City, Nickelodeon’s Heroes in a Half-Shell will take fans on a wild ride to 34th street on a one-of-a-kind Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles float (performance by Ciara); PAW Patrol’s Chase character balloon will show the citizens of New York City that “no job is too big, no pup is too small;” and the Shimmer and Shine float (performance by Debbie Gibson) will transport spectators to the whimsical world of Zahramay Falls with twin genies-in-training Shimmer and Shine.

Update (11/2) - The holidays are getting closer, and a sure sign is the test run of the new balloons that will join the iconic lineup for the 93rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The balloons flew Saturday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Five new balloon characters were displayed, including the 44-foot tall SpongeBob SquarePants & Gary by Nickelodeon and a 49-foot tall Astronaut Snoopy. A Smokey Bear balloon supplied by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service will also join the parade for the first time ever, standing 51-feet tall. Green Eggs and Ham by Netflix, a 46-foot tall balloon, and a balloon designed by Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama, titled Love Will Fly Up to the Sky, will also be displayed.

All great things must come to an end, and unfortunately, Henry Danger is no exception. During a interview with the paparazzi, Nickelodeon star Jace Norman, who plays Henry Hart/Kid Danger on Nickelodeon's hit live-action comedy series, confirmed that the fifth season of Henry Danger, which is currently airing on Nick, will be the show's last. During the interview, Jace also talks about working with Frankie Grande on the show:



Update (11/11) - Christopher J. Nowak has confirmed that the series finale of Henry Danger has just gone into production, and will be a two-part episode titled "The Fate of Danger". The episode is written by Chris and directed by Steve Hoefer.

Henry Danger follows the adventures of Henry Hart (Jace Norman) who gets selected by superhero Captain Man (Cooper Barnes) to be his apprentice. After promising to keep his new identity a secret, Henry must navigate a double life balancing the challenges of high school with the crazy adventures of a crime fighter. The series also stars Riele Downs as “Charlotte Page,” Sean Ryan Fox as “Jasper Dunlop,” Ella Anderson as “Piper Hart,” Michael D. Cohen as “Schwoz Schwartz,” and Jeffrey Nicholas Brown as “Jake Hart.”

Henry Danger is basic cable’s number-one show with K2-11 and K6-11 (through 6/23/19). With 117 episodes to date, Henry Danger is the network’s longest-running live-action sitcom. In all, Henry Danger will have a total of 127 episodes. The series premiered during Fall 2014.

Full casting has been announced for the upcoming North American Tour of Nickelodeon's The SpongeBob Musical.

This explosively imaginative production will launch at Proctors in Schenectady, New York this September before bringing Bikini Bottom and its beloved residents to previously announced engagements in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and more.

Following a Chicago tryout during summer 2016, the musical opened on Broadway in December 2017 (under the title SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) at the Palace Theatre, where it ran through September 16, 2018.

This touring musical promises to reel in Boston’s ‘SpongeBob’ superfans

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants. Except right now, he’s away from Bikini Bottom on tour with “The SpongeBob Musical,” the Tony-nominated adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series. After a Broadway run, the zany production will play the Boch Center Wang Theatre from Oct. 15 to Oct. 27 as part of its North American tour.

Most people know SpongeBob from his animated misadventures, packaged into two 11-minute segments per episode. Often, the burger-flipping sponge finds himself in simple situations that escalate to the absurd. For instance: An episode from 2002 finds SpongeBob and his best friend, starfish Patrick Star, going door-to-door selling candy bars. SpongeBob tries to pick a tantalizing loose thread off the shirt of his snobby co-worker and neighbor, Squidward. Things unravel from there.

Instead of ramping things up one step at a time, “The SpongeBob Musical” begins with an explosive revelation. Residents of Bikini Bottom learn that a nearby volcano, Mount Humongous, is set to destroy the entire town in 24 hours. As Squidward (Christopher Cody Cooley), Patrick (Beau Bradshaw), Sandy the squirrel (Daria Pilar Redus), money-grubbing Mr. Krabs (Zach Kononov), and his rival Plankton (Tristan McIntyre) reckon with impending doom, it’s up to one optimistic sponge to save the ecosystem he calls home.

Translating 11-minute-long, action-packed episodes into more than two hours of musical theater proved challenging, director Tina Landau said in a phone interview. The New York City theater artist started developing the show in 2007 and has been working with it ever since.

“The show was not conceived as a musical,” Landau said. “It’s more like a performance art event, and a party, and a carnival, and a rock concert.” A star-studded lineup of musicians contributed to the show’s soundtrack, which includes songs by David Bowie and Brian Eno, Panic! at the Disco, They Might Be Giants, Sara Bareilles, and John Legend, to name a few.

Characters wear clothing that suggests their animated counterparts’ but doesn’t try to replicate it. Squidward wears pants with extra-green legs. SpongeBob wears his iconic suspenders. “But the intention was never to put him in a large, square, foam kind of theme-park costume,” Landau said.

In the animated series, SpongeBob plays his nose like a flute and contorts his malleable body into improbable shapes. In the musical, SpongeBob’s human actor jumps around excitedly and pulls his pet snail Gary behind him on wheels. “We have not shied away from the fact that SpongeBob stretches and contorts,” Landau said. “We have just found really theatrical ways to express that.”

SpongeBob’s first episode ran in 1999, inspiring legions of millennial superfans who grew up watching the show. SpongeBob memes continue to circulate on social media. Fans even petitioned to get the iconic SpongeBob rock song “Sweet Victory” (from the 2001 episode “Band Geeks”) performed at the 2019 Super Bowl. They wanted to honor show creator Stephen Hillenburg, who died last fall.

This production taps into that deep vein of SpongeBob fandom. “We have found that our biggest group of fans are definitely in their 20s and 30s,” Landau said.

Like so many of his peers, Lorenzo Pugliese grew up watching SpongeBob’s antics. The actor, who plays SpongeBob in the touring production, graduated from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia this spring.

“Actually, I don’t even know if I told Tina this,” Pugliese said over the phone, laughing. “But when I was a kid, in the morning, I would wake up, open up the windows and yell, ‘Good morning world, and all who inhabit it!’ ” It’s a quote from a classic SpongeBob scene. And now, Pugliese gets to yell it at the top of every performance.

Bonus: Boston theatergoers can celebrate SpongeBob with an extra treat. J.P. Licks, the ice cream chain founded in Jamaica Plain, will offer a sea salted pineapple ice cream flavor for a limited time as a joint promotional effort. Sounds like it would pair nicely with a Krabby Patty.

OVERTURE CENTER WELCOMES 'SPONGEBOB'

MADISON - He may live in a pineapple under the sea, but SpongeBob will soon be visiting a Stateline Area stage.

The beloved children's cartoon character is being brought to life in "The SpongeBob Musical" Oct. 8-13 at the Overture Center.

"The show has all the things that we know and love from the cartoon, but it has a much more realistic storyline," said actor Cody Cooley.

Cooley, a native of Sykesville, Maryland, is portraying the disgruntled Squidward Q. Tentacles in the brand new traveling Broadway production.

"Squidward is the everyman, just going about his day job and trying to get through it," Cooley said. "He really just wants to be at home playing his clarinet."

Although SpongeBob Squarepants has had many memorable episodes from its years on Nickelodeon, those who attend the show will see something completely new.

The storyline, not based on any previous plots, is that beautiful Bikini Bottom is about to be destroyed by a natural disaster. All the characters must come together to save the day.

"All the characters in the show look at the problem in their own unique way, and the story is all about how a community can be brought together and work together," Cooley said.

Viewers can expect to see the story played out with a fun and colorful set, Broadway numbers and lots of dancing, including a 7-to-8 minute tap routine by Cooley.

There won't be any foam-costumed actors on stage, Cooley added. The show's directors have worked very hard to embrace the human connection the story makes.

"When I saw this show on Broadway, I thought it was so refreshing that you expected it to be like what you'd see in a theme park, but it's not at all," Cooley said.

Families are sure to enjoy the show's production quality, songs, and seeing a brand new cast that is excited to perform for a live audience. Madison will be the third stop on the tour.

"This show has such great heart and such a good message," Cooley said. "The kids will really love seeing SpongeBob on stage and the adults will love the humor...it's all really fun."

Tickets for "The SpongeBob Musical" start at $31 and go up to $141. Shows will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8-10; 8 p.m. Oct. 11; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 12; 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

A special "Meet the Artist" event will happen after the show on Thursday, Oct. 10, where a brief Q&A session will take place. There also will be a "Best Day Ever" event at noon on Sunday, Oct. 13, featuring art projects and more.

Broadway’s ‘SpongeBob Musical’ coming to Hartford, Boston

When Stephen C. Kallas was growing up in Monroe, Conn., he enjoyed sitting on the couch watching the animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” on Nickelodeon.

Soon he’ll be on the stage at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford performing as Old Man Jenkins in the “The SpongeBob Musical,” which runs Oct. 1-6. The musical will later travel to Boston for an Oct. 15-27 run at the Boch Center-Wang Theater.

It’s the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob, an incurable optimist and earnest sea sponge, so it’s especially “cool to jump into the (stage) show when there is such a big anniversary for the brand,” said Kallas, 24, speaking from Schenectady, New York, before the production began a national tour there.

Kallas enjoyed SpongeBob as a child because “it was so whacky and so out there,” but he could connect with the characters.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” launched in 1999. The series chronicles the adventures and endeavors of the title character and his friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. It has been the top children’s animated series on television for the last 17 years, generating a universe of beloved characters, pop-culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony award-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base.

Created by Stephen Hillenburg and produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank, California, the character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of the eponymous yellow sponge, shaped like a kitchen sponge.

Moving from cartoon viewer to stage actor in the SpongeBob world is “just as amazing as I thought it would be,” said Kallas, who graduated in 2017 from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, with a bachelor’s degree in theater with concentrations in performance and design tech management.

He began acting in fifth grade when a friend asked him to get involved with the production of The Music Man. “I said, ‘Sure, why not?’ and was bit by the theater bug,” he said.

He acted during college and after graduation landed roles in regional productions like The Wizard of Oz and Newsies throughout the country.

Kallas is excited to return to Connecticut to act at The Bushnell for the first time; he saw many shows there while growing up in the Constitution State.

He praised the comedy and the music in SpongeBob, saying fans will understand the “Easter eggs” (references to the original cartoon) while newcomers will enjoy it too.

Blanchard, from Portsmouth, N.H., plays Patchy the Pirate in “The SpongeBob Musical,” coming to the Boch Center Wang Theatre Oct. 15-Oct. 27.

While Morgan Blanchard was growing up in Portsmouth, N.H., he and his family would drive to Boston to attend theater productions in Boston. “The first musical I ever saw was at the Wang. It was ‘Cats,’ ” recalled Blanchard (who plays Patchy the Pirate in “The SpongeBob Musical,” coming to the Boch Center Wang Theatre Oct. 15-27) in a recent phone interview. “It was so magical to be this young kid seeing these shows, and now I get to be the person I was looking up to at that time. It’s nice to hopefully be [performing at] someone’s first musical -- and I’m assuming with ‘SpongeBob’ that there will be a lot of new audiences.” Blanchard was quick to point out that the Tony-nominated show, based on the beloved animated series on Nickelodeon, is not just for kids. “The show has an incredibly relevant and important message that I think a lot of people need to hear -- especially now -- about community and coming together and celebrating each other and all of our differences,” he said. In addition to seeing family and friends when the national tour lands in Boston, Blanchard said he is most excited about “sleeping in my own bed” at his parents’ home in Portsmouth. “I live out of a suitcase, so it will be nice to be home,” said Blanchard, who graduated from Ithaca College last year and immediately joined the national tour of “The Sound of Music” before joining the cast of “The SpongeBob Musical.“ We caught up with the 23-year-old actor to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation destination?

London – no question. While in college, I studied abroad in London for four months and it was a pivotal moment for my personal growth. The city’s history, parks, and commitment to the arts offer a myriad of activities to explore.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing?

Wine. Always wine. And of course any sort of delicacy from the place I’m visiting. I love trying new things.

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t?

Italy. It’s where my family is from, and who doesn’t love Italian food?

One item you can’t leave home without when traveling?

A journal. I always make sure to travel with a journal so I can keep track of my entire trip and look back on the memories.

Aisle or window?

Window – so I can look out and see my destination from above.

Favorite childhood travel memory?

My mother works for a travel agency so we would travel constantly as a kid. But my favorite memory has to be my trip to Japan with a student ambassador group when I was in middle school. It was a complete culture shock . . . and such a beautiful country.

Guilty pleasure when traveling?

Farmers’ markets. I always make sure to find the local farmers’ markets in each destination. Local markets can tell you so much about a city and those who inhabit it. And the food is cheap.

Best travel tip?

Try traveling alone. You’ll get to do exactly what you want and hopefully make some friends along the way. And always strike up conversations with strangers.

‘SpongeBob’ made a splash on Broadway. Now, he’s headed to Boston.

SpongeBob SquarePants may live in a pineapple under the sea, but for the next few months, he’s taking it on the road. A little more than a year after its Broadway run, “The SpongeBob Musical” is on a 45-city national tour. Its fourth stop? Boston’s Wang Theatre, where the splashy celebration will take the stage from Oct. 15 to 27.

The musical adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon series follows your favorite absorbent, yellow, and porous sea dwelling played by Lorenzo Pugliese, as well as Patrick (Beau Bradshaw), Sandy Cheeks (Daria Pilar Redus), Squidward (Cody Cooley), and the rest of Bikini Bottom’s usual suspects. In this episode, the town grapples with news that volcano “Mount Humongous” may erupt and destroy their beloved underwater city.

“SpongeBob” originally premiered in Chicago in June 2016 prior to its Broadway debut in December 2017. It quickly earned critical success, snagging 12 Tony nominations to tie with “Mean Girls” for the most nods that year, and won Best Musical at both the 2018 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The show is conceived by Tina Landau, who has served as director for all of its iterations. The musical also features a book by Kyle Jarrow, choreography by Christopher Gatteli, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt, and music by a slew of Grammy Award-winning artists including John Legend, Lady Antebellum, T.I., and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Boston-born band Aerosmith.

While the show is an adaptation of the animated hit, it is not a replica. Instead of theme park-style getups, the actors wear clothing reminiscent of their characters — SpongeBob dons a yellow shirt and red tie, Mr. Krabs has red boxing gloves as hands, and Sandy’s costume is accessorized by her signature pink flower. And while the TV series was created for the younger set, that’s not the case for its musical counterpart.

“[Landau] said on Broadway they would say, ”SpongeBob the Broadway Musical’ — it’s so good, you can even bring your kid.’ It’s made for everyone,” cast member Morgan Blanchard told Boston.com over the phone. “It confronts a lot of ideas that we are struggling with right now in terms of community and coming together and the obsession over fear, and how we use fear to either dominate or divide and how destructive that can be, which I think is arguably more relevant to adults than it is to children.”

Blanchard plays Patchy the Pirate, the show’s sole human character and one he describes as a “whack-a-doodle superfan of SpongeBob.” You may remember the character from the animated series’s occasional live-action segments. For Blanchard, a Portsmouth, N.H. native, the Boston leg of the tour holds personal significance. Growing up, he would come into the city around six or seven times a year to see theatrical productions. And although he spent last year on the national tour of “The Sound of Music,” this month will mark his first time taking the Boston stage.

“I’ve been waiting to come to the Wang [Theatre], he said. “It’s just a childhood dream to do that.”

Of all the leading male characters in Broadway musicals, there’s only one based on a rectangular kitchen sponge – the always absorbing SpongeBob.

The title character in Nickelodeon’s long-running animated television comedy series “SpongeBob SquarePants” stepped onto the stage in June 2016, when “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical” premiered in Chicago before opening on Broadway at the Palace Theatre in December 2017.

Conceived and directed by Tina Landau, with book by Kyle Jarrow, choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, and orchestrations and arrangements by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt, the Broadway production earned 12 Tony Award nominations in 2018.

It won for Best Scenic Design in a Musical for David Zinn’s recreation of the underwater world of SpongeBob and his friends in Bikini Bottom.

With a refashioned title, “The SpongeBob Musical” is now on a tour coming to Boston’s Boch Center Wang Theatre on Oct. 15, with a score that includes songs by Yolanda Adams, David Bowie, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry, Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! Q: Before you landed this role, what would you have thought if someone had told you that you’d be playing a sponge on your first tour in a musical?

A: Someone actually did tell me that. It was my sophomore year in college, and a friend who’d seen “SpongeBob” in New York, told me that I’d be perfect for the role. It sounded kind of crazy at first, because I didn’t know anything about the musical. Not too long after, though, my girlfriend, Julia Toitch, took me to see the Broadway show as “character research.” Then I understood what the person meant.

Q: What is it like bringing an iconic animated character like SpongeBob to life on stage?

A: It’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. It’s incredibly high energy, but with every moment super calculated. The cool thing, though, is that there’s so much truth and humanity in these characters. Tina Landau directs us to do human portrayals of these characters, rather that caricatures.

One of my favorite things about SpongeBob is that he actively wants to become manager at the Krusty Krab restaurant. He is working toward a goal, which I respect.

Q: Are you fan of the “SpongeBob SquarePants” series?

A: I loved it as a kid. There’s a line that SpongeBob says every day, “Good morning, world, and all who inhabit it.” I used to wake up every morning and scream it out my bedroom window. Now it’s my very first line in the musical.

Q: Who’s your favorite character and why?

A: SpongeBob is definitely my favorite character – always has been, always will be. He’s wacky and outlandish which makes him not only very appealing to the audience, but also great fun for me to play as a performer.

Q: Some amazing songwriters have contributed to this score. What’s it like to get to do their music?

A: Having the music of all these different artists in one score means we can do everything from country and pop to rock. The song by Bowie and Brian Eno, “No Control,” in act one is very panicky and works just perfectly with the story. And that’s just one of the great numbers in this show.

Q: What’s your favorite musical number from the show?

A: My favorite is Squidward’s big number “I’m Not a Loser” by They Might Be Giants. It’s a flawless, perfectly crafted, Golden Age of Broadway number that’s marvelously performed by our Squidward, Cody Cooley, and company. I’m offstage, but I watch it from the wings every night. I love it!

New England native sets sail in ‘The Spongebob Musical’

Morgan Blanchard on bringing the show’s first national tour to Boston.

Are you ready kids, because “The Spongebob Musical” ships up to Boston this month as part of the show’s first national tour.

Set to take over the Wang Theatre Oct. 15-27, the hit production based on the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon earned 12 Tony nominations and one win during its initial run on Broadway. After kicking off the national tour in Schenectady last month, Spongebob, Patrick, Squidward and the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang are finally heading to the Hub, and they’re setting sail with a special cast member who knows how to navigate Boston’s dirty water.

New England native Morgan Blanchard takes on the role of Patchy the Pirate in “The Spongebob Musical,” and he is thrilled to bring the show to his old stomping grounds. In fact, the Wang Theatre was where Blanchard saw his first touring show, “The Phantom of the Opera,” as a kid while growing up in Rye, N.H., just outside of Portsmouth.

“I could not be more excited,” Blanchard tells Metro. “Just to perform at the Wang is the craziest thing in the world. It’s where I grew up seeing all the tours coming through.”

Ever since his first school play in kindergarten, Blanchard has been enamored with theater and the arts. He scored his first role with a professional show in fifth grade as part of a production of “The Sound of Music” at Prescott Park, and hasn’t slowed down since.

“I kind of did theater non-stop from that moment on,” says Blanchard, who has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Ithaca College.

With a slew of regional and national credits under his belt, Blanchard knew early on in high school that he wanted to make a career out of his creative outlets.

“Probably my freshman year of high school is when I knew that this is what I wanted to do,” says Blanchard. “Fortunately I had parents who were so supportive and ready to back me in that regardless of whether it’s stable or not.”

Having been a fan of the franchise since childhood, Blanchard admits that playing Patchy the Pirate in “The Spongebob Musical” is a massive opportunity, and he’s determined to give it his all since so many fans across the globe love the swashbuckling character from the cartoon.

“It’s pretty huge,” says Blanchard. “It’s the biggest opportunity I’ve come across yet and I’m so grateful.”

“It’s such a blast to bring to life these cartoon characters that you think are so surface level,” he adds, “but they’re actually very detailed and can tell a really relevant and truthful story.”

As for why Spongebob and his pals have had such a big impact on culture over the decades, Blanchard notes that part of it is due to the show’s focus on community.

“The whole concept of Bikini Bottom,” says Blanchard. “This idea of community is very relatable. That’s what keeps people coming back to it.”

There’s also the show’s unique brand of humor, which Blanchard believes has influenced an entire generation of fans.

“The humor really has morphed our generation,” says Blanchard. “The way our generation finds things funny is incredibly shaped by Spongebob and other Nickelodeon cartoons.”

PORTSMOUTH - The award-winning “SpongeBob Musical” is making its national 45-city tour stop in Boston this week, featuring Portsmouth native Morgan Blanchard who will be performing in his debut tour as Patchy the Pirate.

During its initial run on Broadway, Tina Landau’s Nickelodeon cartoon-based production earned 12 Tony nominations with a win. “SpongeBob” originally premiered in Chicago in June 2016 prior to its Broadway debut in December 2017. The reinvented “SpongeBob Musical” opens at the Boch Center Wang Theatre Tuesday and runs through Oct. 27.

“It is the Broadway production, but we reconstructed it a little so it could work on tour, moving from theater to theater,” Blanchard said. “As much as it’s a Broadway production, it’s kind of a new version. We tried out some new things. It’s cool to be able to work on something that’s kind of transforming.”

Blanchard is a 2014 Portsmouth High School graduate and 2018 graduate of Ithaca College where he earned his degree in musical theater with an acting focus.

“It all basically started in my early-on music class with Tammy Burns, who was the music teacher at my elementary school at the time, who I still keep in touch with and love dearly,” he said. “When I was in fifth grade, I auditioned for ‘The Sound of Music’ at Prescott Park and did that.”

From then on, Blanchard performed in several summer productions at Prescott Park in Portsmouth and went on to do work with Mainstage Theatre and the Seacoast Repertory Theatre along with multiple high school plays.

Almost immediately after college graduation, Blanchard went on tour with “The Sound of Music,” his first professional show and then wrapped up in June 2019, just a month before committing to “SpongeBob Musical.”

“Technically, I live in New York. I have an apartment in the city,” he said. “But really, I live out of a suitcase right now in the middle of the country.”

Blanchard says performing Patchy the Pirate in the “SpongeBob Musical” has easily been his favorite, most entertaining role yet. On top of his main role, he performs in the show’s ensemble as well so he has the opportunity to play a lot of different roles.

Although this performance is anticipated by the crowd to be a reimagining of the beloved television series, it is not the same. While the comedy show was originally crafted for a younger crowd, Blanchard said, this musical is set to attract a much broader audience, and is inviting to all ages.

“It’s made for everyone,” said Blanchard.

Blanchard also mentioned that the performance contains messages that allude to coming together through inclusivity, giving younger audience members first-time exposure to theater in a positive way.

COLLEGEVILLE — Her "SpongeBob Musical" character may be a long way from the queen of "South Pacific," Nellie Forbush, but Caitlin Ort brings her passion for musical theater to both roles equally.

"'South Pacific' is such a beautiful story; it's definitely one of my favorite musicals. The music is just timeless," noted the Collegeville native, on the phone from Oklahoma City, her current stop touring with "The SpongeBob Musical."

Ort has appeared in both professional and community theater versions of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "South Pacific."

"It was a very fulfilling experience working on that show because the message is so important, about tolerance of people who are different than you and finding similarities in people you assumed are very different from you."

Bringing SpongeBob's Karen the Computer to life was a decidedly different experience, noted Ort, who stars in The SpongeBob Musical" at the Forrest Theater in Philadelphia Dec. 3 through 15.

"I grew up on SpongeBob, so I was familiar with the cartoon character, but what's different about this show is that in the cartoon she is a computer but in the musical she is portrayed as a humanized version of the character," Ort said of the show. "All of the characters have their own human versions of these roles and very much have a human take, and the director, Tina Landau, had so many cool ideas about how my character moves through space and she is influenced by robotic movement but still has a human quality about what her needs and wants are. It's very much taking inspiration from the cartoon characters but making them human. The show is very much what the Broadway production was, same costume design, set design and choreography. Tina is a collaborative director and is an ensemble-first director. So what we do onstage we can take ownership of because we developed it as a group. Tina was very open and communicative with us if we had questions or ideas we wanted to try out."

Inspired by the long-running Nickelodeon TV program, "The SpongeBob Musical" won a 2018 Tony award and was a 2019 Best Musical winner of the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. The production stars 2019 University of the Arts graduate and Scranton, PA native Lorenzo Pugliese as 'SpongeBob Squarepants" and features an original pop and rock-infused musical score by a roster of Grammy Award-winning songwriters, including Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Lady Antebellum, The Flaming Lips, Cyndi Lauper and many others.


Caitlin Ort credits her early love of musical theater to the roles she played in Methacton Community Theater productions.

The show was created for a diverse audience, noted Ort, who received a BFA in Musical Theater from Ithaca College.

"Most of our audiences are a mix of adults who want to bring their kids to the show or are in their 20s and 30s and grew up with SpongeBob and want to see the musical version of it. It's sophisticated enough for an adult to appreciate but iconic for children to recognize these characters and appreciate all the colors and the dancing and the music. So it's really a show that anyone can enjoy," Ort said. "It's a departure from the cartoon because it's not recreating anything from the cartoon. It's an entirely different story. It is a Broadway musical for all different types of audience members. It really is a show for everyone."

Ort, a 2012 Methacton High School grad now living in New York, won the role after a series of auditions, she explained.

"I was familiar with the casting agency so I contacted the casting office and asked for an appointment to be seen because I thought that I was really right for it. I auditioned for them seven times over the course of about five weeks. Then I just waited for a few months and I got a phone call saying I got the part. When national tours are going out oftentimes they call people in several times, especially when you're going in for such a big role. The creative team often wants to work with you as much as you can to see how you take direction see if you're a right fit for it."

Ort's interest in musical theater began at a young age, when she appeared in local community theater productions, she recalled.

"The first musical I ever did was with Methacton Community Theater when they did 'The King and I.' I've been hooked on it ever since, trying to get involved with as many community theater shows as I could, and also the high school productions."

It all naturally evolved into a desire for a career in the industry, she said.

"I wasn't sure it was even something you could pursue a degree in, but my older sister Megan and I both learned that you could pursue a degree in performance arts. We both ended up going to Ithaca College and getting degrees in musical theater," Ort said.

With Megan now touring with a professional opera company, both sisters achieved success fairly quickly.

Ort's professional credits also include roles in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (Frieda); "The Merry Wives of Windsor" (Mistress Ford), "Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery" (Actress 1); "Ragtime" (Evelyn Nesbit); "Show Boat" (Kim Ravenal)"; "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" (Hedy LaRue) and "Jesus Christ Superstar."

"I've been very fortunate with the work that's been coming my way since I graduated," Ort said. "I think a lot of it has to do with having a very supportive family. My sisters and my parents have just been so supportive of me having a career. They kept my spirits up even when I auditioned for hundreds and hundreds of jobs and only a small percentage (panned out), so I think that's one of the reasons I've been having success. I do have this huge passion for live theater," she added, "but I'm also interested in different forms of the entertainment business so I've been thinking of branching out lately."

Mystery and adventure returns to Nickelodeon in the third season of the hit live-action series Hunter Street!

A lot has changed for the Hunter family in season three, and a mysterious treasure map brings them on a new and exciting adventure. The Hunter kids will once again need to work together, along with some new friends, to uncover the hidden treasure, outwit dangerous enemies, and discover major secrets about their family’s past along the way.

In the premiere episode, "The Birthday Gift", Anika is celebrating her 14th birthday when she is sent an unusual present – a miniature pyramid wrapped inside a torn treasure map. Before the kids can figure out what it means and who sent it, their parents announce they’ve booked a vacation to get away from renovations at the Hunter Museum. Once there, Sal discovers the gifts tied to a long-lost Aztec treasure – and an ancient curse. A new mystery has begun!

Hunter Street season three stars Kyra Smith as the outgoing leader Anika; Daan Creyghton as Sal, the genius of the bunch; Kate Bensdorp as the adventurous and youngest Hunter sibling Evie; Wilson Radjou-Pujalte as the talented artist Jake; Eliyha Altena as their quirky new friend Oliver; and Sarah Nauta as their brave new friend Jasmyn. Both Altena and Nauta also appeared in the Dutch counterpart of Hunter Street, De Ludwigs.

Hunter Street is produced by Blooming Media, and was co-developed with the Nickelodeon Netherlands series De Ludwigs.

In the episode premiere, diabolical ‘Chum Bucket’ restaurant owner Plankton tries his luck at becoming a ghost in order to steal the secret Krabby Patty formula. First a few spine-chilling lessons from Bikini Bottom’s resident ghost, The Flying Dutchman then back to finding the formula. Will Plankton finally succeed in snatching the secret recipe?

Am 31.10 ist Halloween und damit Zeit für Gespenster und Monster. Passend dazu haben wir für euch ein Halloween-Special vorbereitet. Ab 15:00 Uhr könnt ihr die gruseligsten Folgen eurer Cartoon-Helden anschauen! Gruseliger Film am Abend: Lügen haben spitze Zähne!
Im Anschluss an den Spongebob Schwammkopf Marathon kommt es zum gruseligen Film am Abend: Lügen haben spitze Zähne, am 02.11 um 17.05 Uhr.
Davis ist ein Teenager mit einer blühenden Fantasie, der sich in Traumwelten flüchtet. Durch die berufsbedingen Umzüge seiner Mutter findet er nur schwer Anschluss. Nach dem jüngsten Umzug nimmt er sich vor, dass er diesmal nicht der unbeliebte Sonderling der Schule sein wird. Er will Freundschaften knüpfen, den Respekt der Mitschüler und eine Freundin finden. Schon an seinem ersten Abend in der neuen Stadt schließt er Freundschaft mit seiner Nachbarin und Mitschülerin Vi und an seinem ersten Schultag verliebt er sich direkt in die schöne Videobloggerin Caitlyn. Wie es der Zufall so will, hält diese ihn für einen waschechten Vampir. Da ein Dasein als Vampir den sozialen Status erheblich zu steigern scheint, beschließt Davis sie und die ganze Schulgemeinschaft in diesem Glauben zu lassen. Zusammen mit Vi, die eine Expertin des Vampirismus ist, spielt er fortan die Rolle des coolen Vampirs. Doch muss man sich wirklich verstellen, um gemocht zu werden?

Mit einem besonderen Vorweihnachtsprogramm, jeder Menge neuer Folgen der Lieblingsserien, Serien-Marathons und den Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards Abu Dhabi

Die Große Bescherung bei Nick bringt alle Serienfans schon ab Anfang Dezember gehörig in Festtagsstimmung. Jede Woche gibt es um 07:15 Uhr thematisch passende Folgen der Lieblingsserien Henry Danger, Willkommen bei den Louds, SpongeBob Schwammkopf und vielen mehr – und mit diesen Themenspecials versüßen sie die lange Wartezeit bis zum Fest:

Woche 1: Erstmal was Süßes!

In der ersten Woche grooven wir uns ab dem 02.12.2019 mit den leckersten Spezialfolgen rund um Süßes auf die Vorweihnachtszeit ein. Das Wochenende steht dann ganz im Zeichen der Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards 2019 Abu Dhabi – am Nikolaus-Freitag, 06.12.2019 zeigt Nick zum ersten Mal die beeindruckende Show um 18:30 Uhr, mit einer Wiederholung am Samstag um 08:25 Uhr. Für die Kleinsten gibt es am zweiten und dritten Adventswochenende ein besonderes Highlight: Die erste Staffel von PAW Patrol feiert jeweils samstags und sonntags ab 12:10 Uhr einen Serienmarathon!

The summer holidays are once again drawing to a close, and a new school year is about to commence at the Berlin School of Arts, a school where regular subjects including maths, German and English, as well as artistic subjects such as singing, dancing and acting are on the curriculum, when Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Österreich) and Switzerland's (Schweiz) hugely popular locally produced cross-media daily TV series Spotlight returns for a fourth season on Sunday 15th September 2019, bringing with it new and familiar faces!

Update (25/11) - Nickelodeon Deutschland will air a special Spotlight TV movie over Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th December 2019!


Joining the cast for Spotlight season four are new students Mads (Mike Leon Lichtenberg), Nele (Alexandra Herbst) and Sam (Jerome Weinert).

In Spotlight season four, numerous secrets ensure a true jumble of emotions: Rocco (Malcom Meckert) does not dare to stand by his feelings for Greta (Chiara Tews); with the help of Milan (Simon Zeller), new classmate Nele (Alexandra Herbst) tries to gain the self-confidence they need to shine in dance lessons; and a secretive competitor tries to grab Prank King Tim's (Moritz Schirdewahn) crown. Meanwhile, Emily (Nevena Schöneberg) launches the online channel "Insider" in which she becomes a rabid reporter to fight for student rights.

Season four will also see the Berlin School of Arts students travel to a completely new location when they head on vacation to an ultra-cool Creative Camp on the lake, where casual rapper Mads (Mike Leon Lichtenberg), new to the school, falls head over heels in Lotte (Jesina Amweg), and emotions run high for their classmates! The trip will also see crazy pranks and very special performances. The internationally successful twins Marcus & Martinus will be among the very special guest stars.

Meet the New Students

Enrolling at the Berlin School of Arts in season four are:

- Cool rapper Mads wants to become a successful musician, and, with his own tracks a star - but without giving up the credibility. He is played by Mike Leon Lichtenberg, a musician in real life who has already amassed more than 100,000 fans on his Instagram profile @mikeleon_.

- The shy Nele wants to prevail in her dream of dancing at the Berlin School of Arts and must fight for it. She is portrayed by newcomer Alexandra Herbst.

- With Sam, the school gets a new competitor for the title of Oberprankers. Sam wants to prove himself as a comedian and actor. The crazy joker is portrayed by Jerome Weinert.

Spotlight season four will launch with double episodes on Sunday 15th September 2019, airing at 19:50 and 20:00 Uhr on Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) and at 19:55 and 20:05 Uhr on Nickelodeon Austria (Österreich) and Nickelodeon Switzerland (Schweiz). September steht bei Spotlight wieder täglich um 19:50 Uhr Singen, Tanzen und Schauspielen auf dem Stundenplan. Nickelodeon teilt vorab erste Eindrücke von den brandneuen Folgen, den Gaststars und einen neuen Trailer.

Viele prominente Gesichter besuchen dieses Jahr die Berlin School of Arts. Die Spotlight-Darsteller bekommen in diesem Schuljahr Unterstützung u.a. von Max Giesinger, Stefanie Heinzmann, Iggi Kelly, Daniel Donskoy, Nikeata Thompson, Selina Mour, Wolfgang Bahro und TikTok-Star Dalia.

Ein Highlight der vierten Staffel: Dieses Jahr reisen die Spotlight-Schüler erstmals an einen ganz neuen Schauplatz – auf der Klassenfahrt ins Creative Camp am See erleben die Schüler Liebes-Wirrungen, verrückte Streiche und ganz besondere Auftritte. Egmont Ehapa startet am 18. September ein neues Print-Magazin für 9- bis 14-Jährige. In "Spotlight" dreht sich alles um die gleichnamige TV-Serie, die seit 2016 bei nickelodeon läuft und drei Tage vor Magazin-Start in ihre vierte Staffel geht.

Bestehende Inhalte über neue Plattformen zugänglich machen ist für Viacom inzwischen ähnlich wichtig wie die Entwicklung neuer Programmideen. In Berlin lieferte der Konzern beim "Showcase 2019" einen Ausblick auf die kommenden Monate.

Dass die deutschen Fernsehzuschauer ihre Aufmerksamkeit zunehmend auf immer mehr kleinere Spartensender verteilen, kann Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) nur recht sein: Mit seinen drei Sendermarken MTV, Comedy Central und Nickelodeon verfügt der US-Konzern schließlich auch in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz über ein breites Portfolio an Programminhalten aus Comedy, Musik und für Kinder und Jugendliche. In Berlin hat VIMN am Dienstagabend beim „Viacom Showcase 2019“ einen kleinen Ausblick auf die Neuerungen der kommenden Wochen und Monate geliefert. Dabei standen Strategien, bestehende Inhalte über neue Plattformen zu verteilen und zugänglich machen, ähnlich stark im Fokus wie die Entwicklung eigener Programmideen.

Beim Flagschiff MTV – laut Viacom die „bekannteste globale Jugendmarke“ für „premium music related content“ – hält sich die Innovation zunächst aber stark in Grenzen: Gerade ist die zweite Staffel der Eigenproduktion „Yo! MTV Raps“ angelaufen; außerdem sind „MTV Unplugged“-Ausgaben mit Santiano und Max Raabe geplant. Das war’s aber im Wesentlichen schon.

Comedians auf Reisen

Für Comedy Central zog Wolfgang Til, Brand Director Comedy Central GSA (Germany, Switzerland, Austria), eine kurze Bilanz des vergangenen Dreivierteljahrs und freute sich, „zwölf Stunden Sendezeit im Free TV“ geschenkt bekommen zu haben (die Comedy Central durch die Einstellung von Viva Ende 2018 zugeschlagen bekam). Die nutzt man u.a., um Animationsserien wie „Rick & Morty“ und „Bojack Houseman“ zu zeigen (DWDL.de berichtete); außerdem hat Viacom den Sitcom-Klassiker „Modern Family“ zu sich geholt, zeigt derzeit die 9. Staffel als Free-TV-Premiere und hat Staffel 10 bereits fürs neue Jahr eingeplant. Am 18. Oktober stößt eine weitere Eigenproduktion zum Line-up: Für „Der Comedy-Roadtrip“ schickt der Sender das Trio Ingmar Stadelmann, Osan Yaran und Thomas Schmidt auf Reisen durch deutschsprachige Lande: in den Spreewald nach Brandenburg, Grindelwald in der Schweiz, nach Solingen, Hamburg und Wien. Dort treffen die Comedians auf ganz normale Bürger, die ihnen helfen sollen, die Besonderheiten der Region zu entdecken – und bedanken sich mit einem Stand-up-Auftritt. „Das ist auch ein Stück Gesellschaftsstudie“, beschrieb Stadelmann die Idee in Berlin – und ließ Schmidt das Konzept als „eine Mischung aus Schwachsinn und Leute kennenlernen“ differenzieren. Die Folgen laufen wöchentlich um 23 Uhr.

Kindersender Nickelodeon freut sich derweil über den wachsenden Zuspruch für seine Eigenproduktion „Spotlight“ über Teenager, die sich an der Berlin School of Arts im Singen, Tanzen und Schauspielern üben (und dabei ganz normale Teenager-Probleme bewältigen). Die am Sonntag anlaufende vierte Staffel umfasst 93 neue Folgen, für die der Cast um mehrere Protagonisten erweitert wurde – unter anderem „GZSZ“-Urgestein Wolfgang Bahro, der einen durchgeknallten Dichter spielt. Dazu gibt’s in Kooperation mit einer Drogeriemarktkette „Spotlight“-Merchandising-Produkte rund um die Schule und erstmals ein eigenes Magazin. Außerdem feiert Nick zu allen sich bietenden Gelegenheiten den 20. Pluto TV mit eigenen Viacom-Channels
Vor allem scheint man sich bei VIMN aber darauf zu konzentrieren, für seine Programmmarken neue „Touchpoints“ zu schaffen – so wie Nick+, das über die Megathek der Telekom abrufbar ist, und Comedy Central+ sowie MTV+ bei Amazon Channels. Neu hinzu kommt myMTV Music, das als personaliserbarer Musikvideo-Streamingdienst mit einem Kooperationspartner in der Schweiz launchen soll, wie Michael Keidel, Vice President Content Distribution and Sales GSA, ankündigte.

Partner für seine so genannten „premium niche outlets“ muss sich Viacom aber nicht zwangsläufig extern suchen. Zu Beginn des Jahres hat der Konzern für 340 Millionen US-Dollar den Streaming-Anbieter Pluto TV übernommen, der Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauern eine werbefinanzierte Alternative zu Netflix und Prime Video anbietet. Dafür setzt der in den USA gestartete Dienst auf „Channels“, die wie klassisches Free TV programmiert werden und ihren Nutzern versprechen, sich nicht selbst konsumierbare Inhalte aus riesigen Katalogen heraussuchen zu müssen.

„Wir wollen für jede Zielgruppe einen eigenen Sender kreieren“, erklärte Olivier Jollet, Managing Director Europe von Pluto TV. In Deutschland sind derzeit 32 Channels abrufbar. Bei der Weiterentwicklung kann die neue Mutter kräftig helfen – und ihre eigenen Marken weiter differenzieren. Auf „MTV Pluto TV“ läuft ein Best-of von MTV, „MTV Dating“ bündelt – wie der Name schon sagt – sämtliche Dating-Shows der Gruppe, dazu wird mit Pop-up-Channels wie „MTV Teen Mom“, „MTV The Hills“ und „MTV The Stores“ experimentiert. Neu sind die ersten beiden Comedy-Central-Channels, ebenfalls mit einer Best-of-Variante und „CC Made in Germany“, wo ausschließlich deutsche Comedy-Produktionen laufen (DWDL.de berichtete). Jollet: „Bis Ende des Jahres wollen wir insgesamt 70 Sender live haben.“

Dann steht – aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach – in den USA auch die Fusion mit CBS an, die Viacom den Zugriff auf zahlreiche interessante Programmmarken und TV-Klassiker ermöglichen würde. Zuvor waren bereits mehrere Versuche, die beiden Konzerne wieder zusammenzuführen, gescheitert.

Nickelodeon Iberia and the LEGO Group will premiere the brand-new high-stakes CG-animated comedy series LEGO® City Adventures on Monday 25th November 2019 at 19:00h on Nickelodeon Portugal and at 20:00h on Nickelodeon Spain (España). Following the construction of the series premiere, newly constructed episodes will continue to premiere weekdays at 19:00h on Nickelodeon Portugal and at 20:00h on Nickelodeon España. Nickelodeon estrena su nueva serie de animación «Aventuras en la ciudad»

El lunes 25 de noviembre a partir de las 20:00h Nickelodeon estrena #AventurasEnLaCiudad, una nueva serie de animación que sigue de cerca las aventuras de los habitantes de la moderna metrópolis de Lego City. Y, es que, a pesar de que todos los ciudadanos están siempre dispuestos a que reine la paz…¡en muchas ocasiones es una misión muy complicada! La jefa de bomberos, la señora McCloud, el policía Duke DeTain o el auténtico manitas de la ciudad, Harl, son algunos de los encargados de proteger la ciudad de ladrones o criminales con malas intenciones. Pero también contarán con la ayuda de todos los vecinos, que no dudan ni un segundo en entrar en acción para que siempre reine la paz en la ciudad. En su estreno, toda la ciudad celebra el “Día sin manos” donde ningún habitante podrá utilizar las manos para hacer nada. Y, por si fuera poco, en otra de las aventuras, la metrópolis se prepara para la gran competición donde el premio es más ni menos que… ¡ir a una misión en Marte!

En estas primeras aventuras, un accidental truco publicitario de la película “Cubby el poli” pone patas arriba a toda la ciudad y acaba provocando que un gigantesco globo inflable de Cubby acabe suelto por la metrópolis. ¿Conseguirán entre todos atraparlo antes de que provoque daños? Además, a la jefa de bomberos, la señora McCloud, se le ocurre la gran idea de comprarle una gorra con hélice a su sobrino, pero..¡por accidente compra una que está defectuosa! En otro de los episodios, la ciudad celebra el “Día sin manos”, donde los habitantes de la metrópolis no pueden usar las manos para nada. Pero…¿serán capaces de conseguirlo?

¡Y, aún hay más aventuras! En otra ocasión, cuando el alcalde y Carol tienen que trabajar hasta tarde, empiezan a suceder toda clase de sucesos extraños. Además, por si fuera poco, toda la ciudad se prepara para la gran competición que organiza el presentador de deportes extremos, Dínamo. Y es que el premio es ni más ni menos que… ¡ir a Marte! Las ocurrencias de los vecinos de la metrópoli no acaban aquí porque llega el día de Nochebuena a la ciudad y el agente Duke DeTain es el único policía de patrulla que se queda sin compañero. ¿Se le ocurrirá algún plan para no estar solo?

“Escola dos Youtubers” está de volta com torneio de gaming

Se és fã de youtubers, esta série é para ti. A Escola dos Youtubers regressa à televisão para a segunda temporada. No novo episódio, “Torneio de Gaming”, estará tudo em jogo, inclusive o fim da escola mais famosa do YouTube. A turma unir-se-á para evitar “gameover” e viverá uma aventura repleta de intrigas, diversão, suspense e “cheerleadears”.

Paulo Sousa, Diogo Costa, Mafalda Creative, Gabriel Ferreira, Catarina Perez, Miglu Santos, Rafael Borges, Carly Santos e Tiago Bandeira serão os protagonistas do episódio que conta ainda com a participação especial da atriz Helena Costa.
