All year long, Nickelodeon and KidsRights have profiled kids who are making a difference. Now, Nickelodeon and KidsRights Foundation are proud to announce the winners of the 2018 International Children's Peace Prize: The March For Our Lives Initiators! This is their story:

To raise awareness about school safety issues in America, these seven brave kids joined forces with out students who had also been effected by violence to create the March For Our Lives movement.

It's an unfortunate fact that in America, kids don't feel safe at school. This HAS to stop! The March For Our Lives movement won't ever stand down and will never why away. This group of amazing kids are just getting started!

March For Our Lives wins International Children’s Peace Prize 2018

Amsterdam, Cape Town, 20 November 2018 – The March for Our Lives initiators, who started the American mass youth movement for safer schools and communities and against gun violence, have won the International Children’s Peace Prize 2018. Today, on Universal Children’s Day, David Hogg, Emma González, Jaclyn Corin and Matt Deitsch, received the prize from Archbishop Desmond Tutu during a special ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa in the presence of distinguished guests and the world press. The International Children’s Peace Prize is an initiative of the international children’s rights organization KidsRights. The young winner’s message each year reaches millions of people worldwide.

During the ceremony, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has been the patron of The International Children’s Peace Prize and KidsRights for more than a decade, said that March For Our Lives is one of the most significant youth-led mass movements in living memory. “The peaceful campaign to demand safe schools and communities and the eradication of gun violence is reminiscent of other great peace movements in history. I am in awe of these children, whose powerful message is amplified by their youthful energy and an unshakable belief that children can, no must, improve their own futures. They are true changemakers who have demonstrated most powerfully that children can move the world.”

March For Our Lives

David, Emma, Jaclyn and Matt co-initiated March For Our Lives alongside more than 20 other students, after their school was the scene of a mass shooting in Parkland, Florida this past February, with 17 fatal casualties. Personally affected by the tragedy, they responded by organizing the March For Our Lives event in the spring of 2018 to demand safer schools and communities and to protest gun violence. Hundreds of thousands participated in the rally and more than 800 sister marches took place that same day across the US and beyond. For David, Emma, Jaclyn and Matt, this was only the beginning. In the summer of 2018 the group took to the road, visiting 80 communities in 24 states leading discussions and advocating for the creation of safer communities. They lobbied, held town hall rallies, and motivated thousands of young people to register to vote. The March For Our Lives movement has continued to be highly vocal and very successful. Since its advent, over 25 US states have passed more than 50 pieces of legislation in line with their cause.

A call on the international community to halt violence in schools

Marc Dullaert, founder of KidsRights and the International Children’s Peace Prize, said that out of the extremely impressive group of nominees, March For Our Lives was this year’s most deserved winner, if only due to the sheer size of the movement that it inspired in 2018: “March For Our Lives has transformed a local community protest into a truly global youth-led and peaceful protest movement. The initiators have utilized the skills and knowledge of young people to generate positive change, whilst mobilizing millions of their peers, controlling the public narrative on the issues that matter to them, and making people in power listen. This will shape the way in which children’s rights are campaigned in the future.”

During the ceremony today, Mr. Dullaert called upon the international community to halt the surge in school violence witnessed internationally. “Schools must be protected as safe havens for children. KidsRights calls upon the international community to halt this issue and to prevent schools from becoming battlegrounds.”

HONG KONG, 9 JANUARY 2019 – Nickelodeon today announced its respective merit wins “Best Property” award for PAW Patrol and “Best Young Property in Asia” award for Shimmer & Shine at the recently concluded Asian Licensing Awards, held in Hong Kong last night, in conjunction with the Hong Kong International Licensing Show this week.

NICK JR.’S NEW ORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN PRESCHOOL SERIES ‘READY SET DANCE’ PREMIERES JANUARY 2019


Australia’s number one subscription TV channel for preschoolers1, Nick Jr., is set to launch a new original and locally-produced preschool dance series, READY SET DANCE, which will premiere as a daily show from Monday, January 21 from 10AM until 12PM, airing periodically between popular Nick Jr. shows including PAW Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines, and Nella the Princess Knight. Content will also be available in full on Nick Jr. Play, Foxtel On Demand and Fetch platforms.

READY SET DANCE features fun and energetic short-form dance videos designed specifically for preschoolers aged two – five years old. Its periodic programming around existing shows encourages kids to engage in short physical activity, getting their bodies moving, heart pumping and oxygen flowing to their brain on a regular basis. Differing from other dance shows on the market, the series is underpinned by a core educational curriculum designed to teach kids fundamental movement skills while building confidence, co-ordination and creativity.


This unique Australian series was developed in collaboration with expert preschool dance educators and dance studio owners Jade Barnes, Belinda Agostino, Natalie Ettingshausen, Glenda Yee and Priscilla Severino. The five successful business women launched their innovative class-based dance program for preschoolers, also titled READY SET DANCE, after identifying a gap in the market. Four years on and READY SET DANCE is now licensed in over 150 dance schools around Australia and New Zealand and continues to grow.

“Working alongside Nickelodeon, we have been able to adapt our classroom-based program to deliver a story-driven dance series that is bursting with energy and encourages kids to get up and dance at home in their living rooms,” said Jade Barnes, a director at READY SET DANCE.

Connecting the live-action kids crew to the audience at home will be animated hosts, Twirl and Freeze. ‘The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge’ To Be An Origin Story; 'Luck' to be a Nickelodeon Movie [Updated]

Major names in the film and animation world today spoke at the VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy including film composer Hans Zimmer, Mireille Soria, president of Paramount Animation, and Rob Bredow, head of Industrial Light & Magic.


During her talk, Soria revealed previously unannounced details about the upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, currently slated for release on July 17, 2020 - the 21st anniversary of the show’s premiere on Nickelodeon.

The film will have a “nice homage to the classic movie,” per its title, inspired by Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, but the bigger story is that it’s an origin tale, which sounds like a fitting way to celebrate the pop culture phenomenon, which turns 20 years old next year.

“For the first time ever, we’re going to the get to the origin of how little SpongeBob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp,” Soria said during her talk. “The film’s opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time.”

The film is going to offer the first-ever full-CG (characters and environments) version of the universe, and there will also be hybrid sequences with the characters in the live world, which also happened in the previous film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

It’s a Wonderful Sponge will be the first of the SpongeBob SquarePants feature films not to be animated by Rough Draft Korea, the South Korean animation studio that has also worked on the TV show. The CG animation on the movie this time round will be entrusted to Paris and Montreal-based Mikros Image, which has announced the project on their website. The studio is well equipped for cartoony cg animation, having previously produced the animation for Dreamworks’ Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and currently working on Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, for which the new trailer was shared a few days ago.

Oscar-winning composer (and 11 time nominee) Hans Zimmer is scoring the new SpongeBob film, and providing overall musical direction, which will include songs from big names, to be announced at a late date.

For now, though, it’s fascinating to think that 20 years after the introduction of the character, we’ll finally be seeing the meeting stories of SpongeBob and Patrick, or Squidward, or every other beloved character in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe.

The first film in the series, the 2D The Spongebob SquarePants Movie (2004), grossed $140 million worldwide, and the follow-up, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), more than doubled that total with $325m worldwide. The upcoming film, directed by show veteran Tim Hill, who developed the series, sounds like a super-cute concept and should continue the winning streak for Paramount’s most successful feature animation franchise.

Soria was also asked by someone in the audience about whether Paramount would make films in different techniques besides CGI. The studio’s current announced slate is all-CG, but Soria didn’t rule out that other techniques would be used in future films.


“The big tentpole movies are our meat and potatoes,” she said. “Those have to reach a broad audience. I don’t think we can do 2d movies, to be honest. I think that’s hard.” However, Soria said that she could envision movies in different techniques that don’t have the same budget as a tentpole-cg feature and don’t have to appeal to the four-quadrant demographic. Acknowledging her openness to different possibilities, she said, “There’s nothing I wouldn’t say no to.”

The studio’s next film is Nickelodeon Movies'Wonder Park, which is set to be released on Friday 15th March 2019. That film has been in the works since at least 2013, and was well into production when Soria joined as president last year.

Other announced films are Monster on the Hill and Luck.

Update (1/10/2019): Hypable is reporting the exciting news that Luck will be a Nickelodeon Movie co-produced by Skydance Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Animation!

The film “pulls back the curtain on the millennia-old battle between the organizations of good luck and bad luck that secretly affects our daily lives.”

Dreamworks veteran Alessandro Carloni (co-director of Kung Fu Panda 3, head of story on first two How to Train Your Dragon films) is directing from a script by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda trilogy, Trolls). The movie's current release date is March 19, 2021.

Viacom CEO Says He's Mulling Small Acquisition Targets

Bob Bakish on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 squashed a rumor that Viacom is looking to purchase some regional sports networks, like the ones Disney will be selling after it purchases them — and more assets — from 21st Century Fox, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

But given the opportunity to predict whether Viacom might merge with CBS, Bakish, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the former, said he'd "abstain" from commenting.

The Viacom CEO, speaking in Las Vegas a the Citi TMT West Conference, which coincides with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the same city, said he's more focused on smaller acquisitions, using recently purchased VidCon and Awesomeness as examples. The latter was purchased for less than $100 million whereas three years ago the digital production house was valued at $650 million.

Bakish said that the Disney-Fox deal, coupled with decisions by Disney and WarnerMedia, now owned by AT&T, to launch their own streaming services this year presents opportunity for Viacom because it means less content is available to sell.

"A simultaneous reduction in supply from trusted suppliers combined with a resurgence of Viacom is the perfect setup for our company," he said.

He also told the Wall Street analysts in attendance not to expect blackouts of Viacom channels as carriage deals are renewed because of the template used at the end of 2017 when Viacom renewed with Charter Communications in a deal that included lots of extras, like co-producing content, collaborating on advanced advertising and more on-demand content.

"We've renewed or extended over half of our sub base and we have gone dark nowhere," he said. "As we look to the next renewal ... we're doing it from a place where we have a strategy that we know works, we know adds value, and is not all about having some Mexican standoff to see who blinks first."

He congratulated Paramount for a successful turnaround, using the latest in the Transformers franchise as an example: Bumblebee he said, is "solidly profitable" while its predecessor in the summer of 2017 lost more than $100 million.

He also praised the film studio's strategy of leveraging Viacom TV brands — Nickelodeon, MTV and BET — the upcoming example being What Men Want, a reimagining of What Women Want, the 2000 film starring Mel Gibson. The new version, produced by BET Films and Paramount Players and distributed by Paramount Pictures, is due Feb. 8 and stars Taraji P. Henson. The movie has "tested through the roof," he said.

This being CES, Bakish also weighed in on some of the technology he has seen at the show.

He said there's "a clear onslaught of incremental broadband" coming and all of entertainment can profit from that.

He also noted the plethora of "autonomous vehicles" and said that they are "unlocking the last bastion of video-free time." It will lead to more video in the backseat of cars and, eventually, in the front seat as cars become driverless, he said. "That's really exciting."

10-летняя Софи Манасян из Алматы опубликовала видео выступления в рейтинговом шоу Lip Sync Battle Shorties на детско-подростковом телеканале Nickelodeon, передает корреспондент Tengrinews.kz.

По словам мамы девочки Ольги Манасян, дочь выступила главной героиней в телепередаче. Выпуск шоу с участием Софи будет транслироваться 11 января в США на телеканале Nickelodeon в 19.00 по времени Лос-Анджелеса (12 января в 09.00 по времени Астаны). "Софи отметила, что очень много рассказывала про Казахстан и надеется, что все смешные моменты и ее рассказы включат в передачу", - рассказала мама Софи.

Напомним, съемки шоу проходили в августе 2018 года в студии Warner Brothers. Софи Манасян в общей сложности провела неделю на съемках, проживая в гостинице рядом с киностудией. "Это огромный опыт, все на высоченном уровне, Софи - главный участник шоу, для нас, приехавших издалека, для не носителей языка, это что-то невероятное! Огромная сцена, и Софи дает интервью ведущему, который ведет America’s got Talent, что два года назад она вообще не знала английского языка и приехала из далекого Казахстана. Ведущий не мог сдержать восторга, никто из съемочной команды даже бы и не заподозрил, что английский не ее родной язык, так как Софи очень быстро схватывает все инструкции, замечания режиссеров, складно работает с гримерами и продюсерами шоу, излагает свои мысли, так трогательно рассказывает о своих корнях, выполняет задания, а самое главное - так естественно радуется каждой секунде, проведенной на сцене и в обществе этих талантливых людей! Еще бы, ведь она на самом деле когда-то считала это просто невозможным, а сегодня ее мечта сбылась! Она на "Никелодеон"!" - рассказала тогда мама девочки Ольга Манасян.

Юное дарование выразило благодарность маме за помощь и поддержку, без которых ей бы не удалось попасть на канал.

К слову, артистка также дала интервью, в котором рассказала о Казахстане.

Nickelodeon to Premiere 'Glitch Techs' in 2019; Halts Production on Season 2 [Updated 1/10]

Update (1/8/2019): Production crew are reporting on social media that Nickelodeon today (Tuesday, January 8, 2019) unfortunately halted production of Glitch Techs. The crew were in the midst of production of season two. However, as the show has yet to premiere, Nickelodeon wants to air the show before spending more money on it - even if that means losing the whole crew. Evan Palmer, who broke the news on Twitter, stressed that the show has not been cancelled at this point, just that production has been halted. It has also been revealed that the first season is nearly complete, and it is still set to air during 2019. Following the news breaking, production crew working on Glitch Techs paid tribute to the show on social media. A selection of posts can be read below.

Update (1/10): Eric Robles, the co-creator of Glitch Techs, has reiterated in a post on Instagram that Glitch Techs has NOT been cancelled:

"I want to thank you all for reaching out in support of Dan, myself and the Glitch Techs team. To clear any bad air, please know Glitch Techs is not cancelled. As I write this, we are in production, getting amazing animation back from Europe and Asia. Let me also speak from the heart when I say that Nickelodeon Animation has been nothing but supportive in ensuring Dan and myself the freedom to create an original and unique IP in a time where these types of projects are few and far between. As most of you know, until a show actually airs most studios will only grant a writing pick up for your series and only IF they feel good about the show’s chances. So in our case, we were deeply grateful when Nickelodeon saw fit to pick up an extra half-season production order. This kept our amazing team of artists and designers together longer than we ever could have expected.. As you can guess, producing animated shows, (particularly with ambitious and dynamic action sequences,) can get very expensive. As we hit the new year still being an untested show and with money needed for brand new content, we were told the business decision was for the network to launch our series with 20 gorgeous episodes for you and kids at home to respond to. Although our crew’s abrupt dismissal this past week was a terrible shock, we remain so grateful for the time they were able to devote to our second season episodes. We can only hope that when the show finally airs and reaches its audience, production on the remainder of our half season (and hopefully more,) can resume. As a kid growing up, I always dreamt of working and sharing ideas with people as talented as our crew and now I find myself having had the privilege to work with them every single day for the last two and a half years. I cannot express how much fun it has been to create this show and know it is going to have an impact when we share it with the world. I can’t stress how important it is for our industry to support each other and those who support original ideas. Something Glitchy This Way Comes.. Eric Robles, the co-creator of Glitch Techs has announced the exciting news in a post on Instagram that Nickelodeon is planning to premiere the network's brand-new animated series, an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world, in 2019! Eric also revealed that Nick may be planning to air a super sneak-peek of Glitch Techs in 2018! To celebrate the upcoming launch of Glitch Techs, Eric shared some awesome art featuring a few of the special lighting color scripts from the show directed by Scott Kikuta! Glitch Techs (working title) is an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world. The series comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season.

Glitch Techs will boast a multi-ethnic cast, including a Muslim-American female character who will wear a hijab. At a industry panel held late last year, the co-creators explained that when they were developing Glitch Techs, they “recognized the need to incorporate characters reflective of the viewing audience, whether they are background characters or main characters,” and revealed that they had worked with MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) to “figure out how to accurately display an authenticity, even down to little behaviors.” Dan Milano further elaborated, “Even though we’re an animated show and they are trying to catch creatures, we want small things. We want to know that a stray hair came out of that hijab, and she had to tuck it behind her ear because that’s a human moment, that’s a practical moment, from everyday life.”

It was recently announced that Emmy-award winning actor Bryton James (Winx Club, The Young and the Restless) will be voicing a character in Nickelodeon Glitch Techs.

Nickelodeon Greece (Ελλάδα) will premiere the brand-new CG-animated preschool series 44 Cats on Saturday 19th January 2019 at 10:30! Created and directed by Iginio Straffi, the founder of Italian content powerhouse Rainbow Group, the makers of Winx Club and Regal Academy, and produced by Rainbow in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, Nickelodeon Ελλάδα will continue to air all-new episodes of 44 Cats, locally titled 44 Γάτες Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30.


44 Cats

Set in the world of animals, 44 Cats (52 eps x c. 13') follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball (Κεφτές) – four adorable kittens who are part of a music band named The Buffycats.

The protagonists live and play in the Clubhouse, a garage beside old Granny Pina’s house. Their adventures explore the themes of friendship and altruism: the four cats love helping others and always find creative solutions to everyday hitches and help other cats in need. The series promotes positive attitudes and conveys educational messages dealing with important themes such as tolerance, diversity and solidarity in a funny way.

This eagerly anticipated show made its world debut on Rai Yoyo in Italy on Monday 12th November 2018. Nickelodeon International acquired the broadcast rights to the series in May 2018, and will roll the animated series out on Nickelodeon channels and branded blocks around the world, excluding in the U.S. and Latin America, from 2019.

44 Cats is inspired by the very popular Italian kids song "44 Gatti", which, in 1968, won the 10th edition of the Zecchino d'Oro and has since entered the collective imagination of Italians.



44 Cats is the first Rainbow Group production jointly developed with Bardel Entertainment, the Canadian animation studio it acquired in 2015, and jointly produced in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, and combines great music and edutainment with high quality animation. The series also marks Rainbow’s (Winx Club, Regal Academy, Mia and me, Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends) inaugural foray into preschool programming.

Rainbow inked a licensing deal for 44 Cats with Thai Group’s Hong Kong-based company, Toy Plus in August 2018. Under the terms of the agreement, Toy Plus will develop a variety of products including interactive plush, figurines, play sets, musical toys and more based on the music, creative play patterns and collectability featured in the series. The line of merchandise debuted in Hong Kong in October, and is slated to become available for purchase around the world in fall 2019.

Muralism Celebrates SpongeBob Creator

Artists with special needs, Nickelodeon interns and middle school students complete mural in honor of the late Stephen Hillenburg


LOS ANGELES - December 18, 2018: Nonprofit Muralism.org took to the streets of Los Angeles, California once again, this time to celebrate the life and work of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of Nickelodeon's megahit television series SpongeBob SquarePants, who tragically lost his battle with ALS on Nov. 26.

A mural in Hillenburg’s honor now proudly resides at Roy Romer Middle School in North Hollywood between Sears and at the Valley Plaza Shopping center, a labor of love by Muralism artists with special needs, the 2018 interns at Nickelodeon and the students at Roy Romer Middle School. The students at the middle school worked side by side with the Muralism artists and Nickelodeon interns to complete the 60-by-20-foot mural showing SpongeBob and the whole cast running around a track mirroring the school’s own field. The mural was completed on Dec. 14 after almost two weeks in the making. “It is so exciting to have this beautiful mural featuring the SpongeBob gang teaching us about health and wellness,” said Dr. Luis Rodriguez, principal at Roy Romer Middle School.

Muralism is a nonprofit organization that is committed to beautifying the city of Los Angeles and surrounding areas while providing a safe place for artists with special needs to connect with the community. Each mural is designed by a local muralist. A coloring-book-style drawing is prepared by a team of artists with unique abilities, including those with autism, Down syndrome and ADHD. After the mural is prepared, the community is invited to fill in the painting in a paint-by-number style. The Muralism team comes back in the end to clean up the mural for a professional finish.

Ernie Merlán, founder of Muralism and former executive director at Exceptional Minds, a visual effects and animation school for young adults on the autism spectrum, commented, "Muralism’s goal is to paint 100 murals in Los Angeles before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles." During the last Olympics in Los Angeles, the city was known as the mural capital of the world. Due to an 11-year moratorium, murals in the City of Angeles fell in disrepair. The Muralism team first came together in 2014 when the North Hollywood neighborhood councils and Paul Krekorian, Councilman District 2, commissioned a huge mural alongside the 170 freeway on Whitsett and Sherman Way. Two hundred volunteers from the community helped paint the mural, including students from Exceptional Minds, four of North Hollywood's neighborhood councils and the Boy Scouts. Councilman Krekorian cut the ribbon on this historical mural as the first mural in the San Fernando Valley after the repeal of the moratorium.

MTV Asia, MTV LIVE HD and Nickelodeon linear channels to debut on Cookie TV


MYANMAR, 10 JANUARY 2019 – Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), a division of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB), today announced its first OTT linear collaboration with leading digital services provider Cookie TV in Myanmar. This will see the debut of Nickelodeon, MTV Asia and MTV LIVE HD on an OTT platform in the country. All three linear channels will be available on the Cookie TV app, in line with the official launch of the app today.
