ViacomCBS Int'l Studios to Develop New Children’s Musical Series 'Funknautas'

In a bid to support diverse and inclusive storytelling both behind and in front of the camera, ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) is developing a new children’s musical series called Funknautas.


It’s the first kids project to come out of VIS’s new Elevating Diverse Creators strategy to invest 25% of its budget in Latin America in order to create and develop content that highlights marginalized characters and creators. This commitment follows the company rolling out a “no diversity, no commission” policy, first in the UK in July and then globally in October.

Funknautas stars Betina, a girl from the streets who starts a pop/funk band with three rich kids in secret, only to have their social media videos go viral. No details on format, where the series will air or delivery date have been announced.

“Diversity and inclusion is an essential part of everything we do in all of our content. ViacomCBS as a whole is committed to D&I through the implementation of different initiatives, and at VIS we are taking firm steps to fulfil that commitment in front of and behind the camera ”, said Federico Cuervo, SVP & Head of VIS.

In addition to Funknautas, VIS has also announced two more projects being developed from its Elevating Diverse Creators initiative: Maria do Socorro, a drama series that stars women who help other women by putting the needs of others before their own and trying to confront a prejudiced and sexist society; and A coisa tá preta, a stand-up comedy series that portrays the daily life of a group of artists. Meanwhile, in Brazil, ViacomCBS participates in different festivals and local talent meetings, to find new stories that raise the value of diversity and inclusion of people of colour.

The show announcement also comes in the wake of VIS launching a kids division led by Nickelodeon International’s Senior Vice President (SVP) of production and development, Nina Hahn. VIS Kids aims to broaden the company’s global pipeline to include short- and long-form content for children. The division is currently working on Sharkdog, its first international series made for Netflix.

VIS also inked a first-look deal with Santiago Segura, the director, writer and producer of top-grossing Spanish-language family comedy feature Father There Is Only One, and has acquired the audio-visual rights to Ruth Rocha's hit Brazilian children's book series, Marcelo, Marmelo, Martelo.

Outside of LatAm, ViacomCBS Networks International’s EMEA divisions have pledged 30% of their 2021 budgets to produce stories focused on underrepresented groups.

En ese marco, ViacomCBS International Studios anunció tres proyectos en Brasil que cumplen la política de diversidad e inclusión.

ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) anunció este miércoles que el 25% de su presupuesto en América Latina lo invertirá para crear y desarrollar contenido BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color).

Esta iniciativa forma parte de la política global de la compañía «Sin diversidad no hay acuerdo», la cual se compromete a expandir aún más una representación más diversa e inclusiva, tanto dentro como fuera de la pantalla.

«La diversidad y la inclusión es parte esencial de todo lo que hacemos en todos nuestros contenidos. ViacomCBS en su conjunto está comprometido con D&I a través de la implementación de diferentes iniciativas, y en VIS estamos dando pasos firmes para cumplir con ese compromiso delante y detrás de cámara», sostuvo Federico Cuervo, SVP & Head de VIS.

En Brasil, el estudio de ViacomCBS participa de diferentes festivales y encuentros de talentos locales, para dar con nuevas historias que eleven el valor de la diversidad e inclusión de la población negra.

Actualmente, y en el marco de esta iniciativa, se encuentran en proceso de desarrollo tres nuevos proyectos que abordan esta iniciativa:

Maria do Socorro, una serie de drama que tiene como protagonistas a mujeres que ayudan a otras mujeres anteponiendo las necesidades ajenas a las propias y tratando de enfrentar a una sociedad prejuiciosa y sexista.

A coisa tá preta, una serie de comedia y stand up que retrata la vida cotidiana de un grupo de artistas.

Funknautas, una serie musical infantil que cuenta la relación entre Betina, una chica de la calle, y tres niños, que viven en una mansión cuyos padres son reconocidos músicos. Bettina y los tres niños deciden formar una banda de pop / funk en el sótano de la mansión a escondidas de sus padres, pero sus videos en las redes se vuelven virales.

Por su parte, la división de Europa, Medio Oriente, África y Asia de VCNI también se ha comprometido a destinar el 30% del presupuesto de 2021 a producir historias centradas o relacionadas a asuntos y problemáticas de grupos subrepresentados.

Nickelodeon India unveils its 9th Indigenous animated IP “Ting Tong”

The new local IP adds to the most expansive and diverse 700+ hours of the original content slate of Nickelodeon

Every year, Nickelodeon, India’s premiere kids’ entertainment destination, has introduced characters that are endearing and have gone on to emerge as icons amongst children across the country. The comic capers of Motu Patlu, the magic of Rudra, the adventures of Shiva and the mischiefs of the Golmaal Gang have all provided a fun and immersive entertainment experience that has made them a part of every child’s daily life. This continuous innovation, with kids and their entertainment needs at its core, has established Nickelodeon as the undisputed leader in the category for over 6 consecutive years. 

Post the success of its 8 intellectual properties (Ips), the leading franchise is all set to introduce kids to its 9th original IP - Ting Tong.

Adding further depth and scale to the brands diverse content portfolio, the 7-minute animated show - Ting Tong will bring alive short, snacky and exciting drama for kids that is sure to provide unparalleled comedy. The show will air starting September 28 at 9 am, only on Nickelodeon's Sonic.

Update (18/11) - Ting Tong is now available on Voot Kids!

Ting Tong promises to be a fast paced and high-octane comic rollercoaster. The series is a spin-off created around a character named Ting Tong from the popular Nickelodeon original series Gattu Battu. The show revolves around the daily adventures of a fun and lovable character who suffers from regular and temporary loss of memory, each time transforming into the character (person or animal) he sees before him.  Comically catching the bad guys and accidentally becoming the hero of the town adds to the humor quotient of the show.  Ting Tong along with his adorable pet and companion Meeru and the local goons Single Dose and Double Dose set the stage for a laugh riot in this comic caper.

The franchise’s 9th IP Ting Tong will see a highly engaging and innovative marketing and communication plan. Pivoting the media mix to the "new normal", the campaign will leave no stone unturned in reaching out to kids through all possible screens.  From high rotation on air promotions on the Nickelodeon franchise channels and a robust digital plan across the Nickelodeon franchise social media and digital platforms, Ting Tong will be promoted extensively to bring a smile on every kids’ face. A peppy music video that will showcase the whacky spirit of Ting Tong, will be released on social, YouTube and music streaming platforms like Gaana.com & Jio Saavn. Further adding to the experience will be fun Ting Tong inspired digital games to transport kids into a world of escape. Nickelodeon today boasts of the largest and most diverse original content library in the genre. The franchise, despite the current challenges, has been scaling up its content line-up through fresh episodes and movies of existing shows. The channel has recently announced its collaboration with Nick International to coproduce the animated series The Twisted Timeline of Sammy & Raj. The market leader over the last six years has consistently pushed the envelope on innovation by launching shows that cater to the discerning needs of the young viewers. The new show from Nickelodeon Ting Tong is another addition to its interesting content slate and is sure to up the engagement with kids.

Sikka informed at the Animation Masters summit in July that the entire kids network at Viacom18 had seen a significant rise in viewing numbers during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) imposed lockdown. “The numbers shot up across all the age groups between two to 14. We had seen our main premium channel, Nickelodeon touch close to 800 TVTs which is unprecedented,” she mentioned.

She noted that their channels Nick, Sonic and Nick Jr. had a six per cent market share in the urban areas which they couldn’t anticipate themselves. Given the COVID numbers exponentially increasing everyday, and uncertainty of schools reopening this year, the broadcaster was considering to revise their strategies.

Sikka earlier stated that Nickelodeon will keep rolling out important IPs or new content as and when possible and not wait for specific timings or quarters like Summer vacations or Christmas or Diwali. And Ting Tong comes right after this!

Spends on kid’s category not proportionate with viewership, says Anu Sikka of Viacom 18

In an interaction with BestMediaInfo.com, Anu Sikka, Head, Creative, Content and Research, Kids TV Network at Viacom18, talks about various trends in the children’s genre and the growth of the network’s channels for kids

One of the challenges the children’s category faces today is that the spending on them is not proportionate to the reach they offer, Anu Sikka, Head Creative, Content and Research, Kids TV Network at Viacom18, told BestMediaInfo.com at the back of the launch of ‘Ting Tong’, the ninth IP for Nickelodeon India.

“While the kids' genre contributes substantially to the overall TV viewership, close to 7 or 8%, sales in the category is not proportionate.  If you compare it to sales, it's not up to the mark of the revenue earning potential and there is a huge amount of imbalance out there,” she said.

Sikka said while a few years ago the genre survived on acquired content from different countries, none of the broadcasters can survive without original local shows today.

“I guess the biggest shift that has happened is that today, no big broadcaster, especially in the kids' category, can survive without an Indian show. I think this has given a great impetus to the Indian animation industry. Today, it's hard to imagine this category, going back to where the majority of the content would come from abroad. Indian animation is here to stay and the stories and the characters that are being developed are able to identify with the audiences. The characters and these storylines are local because the cultural nuances are taken care of. They're able to identify with the story and the characters,” she added.

She said demand for preschool content is on the rise from the past two to five years. The network’s preschool channel Nick Jr, she said, has grown substantially. “Last year, the average market share of Nick Jr. was 5% and today it’s 7%, which is huge if you consider the audiences are 2-5 years,” she added.

According to Sikka, the time spent and the viewership on their channels grew substantially during the lockdown. However, with restrictions of the lockdown being eased, it has gone down by 22 minutes again.

The YTD viewership of the kid’s category grew by 13-15% during this period. She said as most houses are single TV homes, kids were in control of the remote most of the time compared to the pre-Covid times when different people were in charge of the remote at different hours.

Speaking about their latest IP, ‘Ting Tong’, she said this is the first time they will have a spin-off show on the channel. She said in their market research, they found that kids love the character of Ting Tong from the show Gattu Battu, which is where the idea came from.

Asked about their marketing plans in the absence of on-ground activities, she said they will amplify through the network’s channels. “The flip side or another aspect of this particular situation, which has come about because of Covid, is that kids are sitting at home and watching a lot of stuff. Of course, for us, the biggest marketing happens on the channel, considering the number of kids we have. The largest chunk of kids’ viewership is sitting on our own network. The biggest platforms to market our shows are our own channels. A lot of advertising also happens on YouTube and Voot and on channels outside the Viacom 18 network,” she said.

On their content strategy, she said they focus on newer concepts that would not let kids feel fatigued. Rather than bombarding the channel with different shows, they bring one show a year and focus on that.

“It has been a carefully devised strategy, which is to bring in one new show every year and then to give proper marketing push ensuring it gets the best possible visibility both on the channel as well as off-air marketing. We give it a proper space and the best of slots. We ensure it gets the maximum views and time bands to have the maximum availability of audience. That’s the way the characters and shows are conceived. So far, it has given us tremendous success and we just continue to hope that this winning streak continues for us,” she added.

According to Sikka, the kids’ genre is highly competitive in India with 11 national channels and 4-5 regional channels. In order to maintain leadership, they look at the gaps in the category and fill those with fresh ideas and concepts. She said Nickelodeon has maintained leadership in the category for seven years and Sonic continues to be in the second or third position, according to the weekly data.

Unlike others, the concepts of the shows are developed in house by a team and not pitched by a production house or a studio. “Once we have developed the concept, we fine-tune the characters and everything else. After this, we bring in the writers to write the stories for us.”

Nick brings new episodes, TV movies and exciting engagements for Diwali and Children’s Day

It’s time for festive celebrations but this year it’s going to be different owing to the pandemic and also because Children’s day and Diwali are falling on the same day! 

Nickelodeon is all set to make sure that kids and their entire family enjoy the festive cheer through a host of exclusively crafted fun entertainment and engagement experiences. Kicking off the festive weekend, the fans will be gifted with an immersive and entertaining TV movie around their favourite toon – Shiva titled, Rise of the Techno Sapiens. The tele-movie will premiere on 14 November 2020 at 11:30 am only on Sonic will take kids on a roller coaster of action and adventure with the super kid Shiva.   

Apart from the TV movies, Nick is set to offer a set of shows, episodes and entertainment experiences on television to make festivities even more exciting for kids with a host of category first and priceless experiences. At a recent virtual Round Table webinar, Viacom18 Hindi Mass Entertainment and the Kids TV Network head Nina Elavia Jaipuria revealed that they’ve planned exciting things for the young ones on the occasion of Diwali and Children’s Day. She said that the kids franchise will be launching new episodes, TV movies around Motu Patlu, watch and win contests, Nick Toon Hotline and many more.

Jaipuria stated at the Round Table webinar, “Our strategy at Nick is that we want to be everywhere and however the kids want to see us, our characters and want us to be a part of their enjoyment, regardless of the platform. So we are there on TV with amazing content, TV movies, on an app [Voot Kids], if they want to engage with us on social media and so on, we are there. For the Diwali as kids category usually plans in advance and we’re going to have a big one. We have new episodes, new stories, new movies and the latest TV movie on Shiva and exciting engagement options. And this is not just to invite just kids but investors, advertisers back on the channel.”

What's exciting Nickelodeon India's Nina Jaipuria this festive season

According to Jaipuria it is extremely important for Nickelodeon to have franchise and own IPs.

MUMBAI: Nickelodeon has been the undisputed leader in kid's TV space in India for several years now. It has created several iconic characters such as Motu-Patlu, Gattu Battu, Rudra, and Dadduji that have been immensely loved by children as well as the brands. With over 700 hours of content, the franchise today has the largest, immersive, and most versatile local content library in the category. The channel is aiming to increase 100 hours of content by the next fiscal year.

In its quest to continue its leadership position, the kids’ entertainment franchise announced the launch of its tenth indigenous IP Pinaki & Happy- The Bhoot Bandhus on Sonic. Produced by Delhi based Tavrohi Animations, the new 3D animated show is fast paced, entertaining, spooky – perfect to take the young viewers on an adventurous joy ride starting 9 November, Monday at 11:30 am on Sonic. The show will have three slots on the channel for the whole day. It is a ghost story mixed with comedy.

Viacom18 Hindi mass entertainment and the kids TV Network head Nina Elavia Jaipuria highlighted that this project started 20 months ago and ever since that time, it was in the pipeline. Said she: “Any kids content requires a lot of time because it needs much planning in advance, animation and then you start producing episodes. In the middle of all this is the characterization, scripting and then eight language dubbing.”

In the meantime, Jaipuria along with the team actively looked at the market research, emerging trends in the kid's section and deep dived into their own portfolio. The channel is looking at white spaces that are untapped and have not been catered to the Indian animation industry.

New Storyline

For Pinaki & Happy- The Bhoot Bandhus, the channel wrote down an entire hypothesis, worked on the characters, and in fact tested the show. The new property will portray an unusual family of ghosts, who adopt a boy, the titular character - Pinaki, and raise him as one of their own. Fun and chaos ensues when both the worlds collide. The show will illustrate daily adventures, familial love, the friendship of Pinaki and Happy as the fun unfolds when the ‘bhoot world meets the real world’. Directed by Ankur Chauhan, the lyrics of the title track have been penned by the legendary Gulzar, and the music composed by Simaab Sen.

Elaborating more on the number of episodes and the overall plan for the show, Jaipuria shared that the number completely depends upon the viewership, ratings and ROI. Nickelodeon aims to expand the library for every single IP. --this is not what we are supposed to do..

Marketing Strategy

The show launch will be supported by a robust promotion plan across all platforms, which will include an aggressive TV plan within the Viacom18 network and outside the network. In addition to the high blitz television promotions, the launch will be promoted on cable channels, DTH, OTT platforms, music streaming apps amongst others. There are various innovations lined up on the digital front, including tons of quirky communication on YouTube. There would be a high decibel influencer campaign reaching out to the digital audiences. The promotions will also extend to schools through an expansive virtual school contact program. Further adding to the experience will be fun Bhoot Bandhus inspired digital games, contests, AR filters, virtual dance face-offs, and a series of engaging and interesting on-line interactivity.

Leadership Position

Jaipuria shared that the channels’ prime focus has been to create a local IP that it could own and sweat it across platforms and revenue streams. She mentioned, “It was about creating a local IP in a manner where we created a portfolio and content library which expands in width and depth. It means we don’t only have the number of IPs we kept launching over the last 10 years but also the number of episodes we created for every IP. I think that has helped us to keep the pole position for Nickelodeon. The thing that keeps us on the rating front is also the fact that how we focus on our characters. So, story writing and scriptwriting is extremely important.”

According to Jaipuria, it is extremely important for Nickelodeon to have a franchise and own IPs. Firstly from the ROI perspective, it helps to manifest it on various other platforms. The Nickelodeon IP exists in many avatars that include television, Voot kids, mobile games, product licensing, promotion licensing and consumer products. She pointed out that all the IPs have a long shelf life and start giving profits over a period of time. It keeps the channel ahead of the curve. Jaipuria mentioned, “Kids are early screen adapters and our strategy was to be present on every screen the kids want us to be. Owning the IP and having it for ourselves was very important. It is only then you can put your IP on any screen that the kid demands.”

Brands Play

Jaipuria didn’t hesitate to admit that the pandemic was brutal for the overall broadcast industry and the channel. Nickelodeon witnessed a dip in the adex by 20 per cent. The months from April to June were slow, but as the normalcy returns and products are back on the shelves, advertising has started to grow. Now, adex has gone back to the 2019 level. Starting October the ad volumes have been slightly more. She shared, “Market sentiment has improved, and advertisers are back. Several new categories have also come onboard like e-commerce, automobiles, Edutech, and e-wallet. These include brands like - Vedantu, Byjus, PhonePe, Amazon Pay and others. Some of the advertisers are also new like Lego and Mars. Currently, November and December look overfull. In fact, even during the lockdown, we did not give discounts on ad rates. We are operating on zero discount and I am hoping that the rates will go up.”

The channel has both kid and non-kid advertisers. Kid advertisers are normally FMCG brands like Nestle, Britannia and likewise. But there are non-kid clients also that are targeting the gatekeepers or the co-viewers of the channel. These include e-commerce, automobile, insurance etc. Jaipuria thinks that kids are very good negotiators and have a lot of decision-making power and they are taken into consideration for a lot of household decisions. Brands that are advertising are also aware of the fact that there will be a lot of pester power. Kids now are so tech-savvy that they dominate the discussion on buying decisions - be it household items, groceries, electronics, which paint to apply or which car to buy. Jaipuria opined that this is one of the main reasons why so many advertisers choose Nickelodeon to reach out to these influencers and induce them to buy popular brands.

She concluded, “We have grown on the top line by 12 to 15 per cent last year. We have grown our ad-rates by that much because 12 minutes is all we have to sell. So, all the increase that we get every year comes from value and rates. We are looking at growing and having a fair share in the ad-rate and considering that we are so under indexed at three per cent and considering the genre share at 7 per cent, we do want to take our ad-rates up every year."

VIACOM18 REGISTERS FOUR-FOLD JUMP IN FY20 NET PROFIT AT RS 353.5 CR

Total income jumped to Rs 3886.16 crore compared to 3671 crore in the trailing fiscal

Entertainment network Viacom18 has registered an over four-fold increase in FY20 net profit at Rs 353.5 crore compared to Rs 81 crore in FY19, according to the company’s audited financial results.

Total income jumped to Rs 3886.16 crore compared to 3671 crore in the trailing fiscal. Total expenses declined to Rs 3451.2 crore from Rs 3578 crore.

Advertisement sales, subscription, and programme syndication revenue remained flat at Rs 3461.42 crore compared to Rs 3432.5 crore. Film distribution and syndication revenue increased to Rs 278.1 crore from Rs 217.4 crore. The company’s other operating income registered an eight-fold increase at Rs 132 crore compared to Rs 14.9 crore.

In terms of operational expenses, the company incurred a programming cost of Rs 2036.7 crore as against Rs 2095.1 crore. Marketing and advertisement costs saw a marginal increase at Rs 444.2 crore compared to Rs 428.5 crore.

Transmission and uplinking costs stood at Rs 113.1 crore compared to Rs 110.6 crore. License fees paid during the fiscal year were Rs 28.85 crore compared to Rs 27.47 crore in the previous fiscal. The company’s other distribution cost was Rs 165.4 crore as against Rs 180.4 crore.

Viacom18 is a subsidiary of TV18 Broadcast Limited (representing Network18 Group, India) which owns 51% of equity shares. 41% of equity shares are owned by MTV Asia Ventures (India) Pte Ltd, Mauritius, and the remaining 8% equity shares are owned by Nickelodeon Asia Holdings Pte Ltd, Singapore (together representing Viacom Inc. Group, USA).

The company is engaged in the business of broadcasting of televisions channels, distributing, marketing, and selling commercial advertising on ‘channels’ – Colors, Colors Rishtey, Colors Cineplex, MTV, MTV Beats, Nick, Nick Jr., Sonic, VH1, Comedy Central, Colors Infinity and a regional bouquet of channels.

Additionally, the company also generates revenue from licensing and merchandising of products, brand solutions, organising live events, Over The Top (OTT), and digital content delivery platform and marketing partnerships. The company is also in the business of production and distribution of motion pictures.

Meanwhile, rating agency ICRA had recently reaffirmed Viacom18’s credit rating for a total amount of Rs 2,110.7 crore. The credit facilities comprised of the commercial paper programme of Rs 500 crore and Short-term, Fund-based/Non-fund Based Bank Facilities of Rs 1,610.7 crore.

According to ICRA, the rating reaffirmation factors in the company’s strong parentage with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) through its step-down subsidiary TV18 Broadcast Limited holding a 51% stake in Viacom18 Media and the balance stake being held by Viacom Inc.

It added that the rating also reflects the strategic importance of the media business to RIL. Independent Media Trust (IMT), of which RIL is the sole beneficiary, holds a majority stake in Network18.

Despite the adverse impact of Covid-19, which resulted in a YoY decline of 26% in Viacom18’s advertisement revenues during H1 FY2021 (as per standalone provisional financials), the company was able to report a strong YoY improvement in its standalone operating profit margin (OPM) to 13.1% during H1 FY2021 (as per standalone provisional financials), against an OPM of 8.6% in H1 FY2020, driven by broad-based cost controls.

The report noted that Colors, the flagship channel for Viacom18, remains its mainstay with differentiated content both in the fiction and non-fiction categories. The company’s ability to maintain the leadership position of Colors will be critical to maintaining its overall profitability.

It also stated that the company has iconic brands in its portfolio such as MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, and Nick, which has helped it carve a strong and niche positioning in their respective segments.

Furthermore, the children’s genre has continued to demonstrate healthy financial performance (as indicated by the management) on the strength of its owned intellectual property rights (IPRs) and maintained its dominant position in the genre.

The company’s presence in the regional entertainment genre provides diversity in revenues and gives it access to significant growth potential in the RGEC space. Furthermore, it launched a Tamil GEC during FY2018, a market with high potential, and regional movie channels (Kannada, Gujarati, and Bangla) during the past two fiscals to expand its regional presence.

Improving market share of the regional channels and consequent scaling up of revenues of the portfolio will be important for the overall improvement in revenues and profitability of the company, ICRA said.

Central Asia Design Hub Partners with Viacom International Studios to Dub Nickelodeon Series into Five Central Asian Languages

The Central Asia Design Hub project has entered into an agreement with Viacom International Studios (VIS) to acquire the rights to several popular animated Nickelodeon series in Central Asia. Under the agreement, series such as Dora the Explorer, Shimmer and Shine, Team Umizoomi and more will be translated into five Central Asian languages, including Kyrgyz, the official language of Kyrgyzstan, with technical support from the US Embassy!

US brings Nickelodeon cartoons to Central Asia

DUSHANBE (TCA) — The Bishkek-based Central Asia Design Hub reached a distribution agreement with Viacom International Studios (VIS) to bring Nickelodeon cartoons to Central Asia. Several popular American animated programs including Dora the Explorer, Shimmer and Shine, Team Umizoomi and other animated TV series will be adapted to five Central Asian languages with technical assistance from the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan said on March 4.

This new agreement with Viacom International Studios will bring the best of pre-school and animated content to state and private TV broadcasters in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. This partnership will not only support TV broadcasters in increasing the volume of state language content but also enrich the lives of families across Central Asia with educational programming.

“These shows are entertaining and educational. This project supports the U.S. government’s goals of promoting education and learning at all age levels, and to show a model for the development of such programs in Tajikistan. In addition to supporting the dubbing and distribution of these television programs, the U.S. Embassy continues to support education through textbook development, reading campaigns, teacher training, English language programs, exchange programs, scholarships, and free courses through our network of eight American Spaces in Tajikistan. In partnership with Tajikistan’s government, civil society, and private sector, we are working toward a brighter future for Tajikistan,” said Chargé d’Affaires to Tajikistan John Ginkel.

Launched in 2019, the Central Asia Design Hub brings licensed content to enrich local Central Asian media markets, provides professional training to the media sector, and supports development of original content in the state languages of Central Asia.

State-run Kazakh TV channels to change content formation strategy

State-owned TV channels in Kazakhstan will broadcast less series and entertainment content in the new television season. Instead, local TV channels will be showing the implementation of state programs, Kazakh Minister of Information and Social Development Aida Balayeva stated in an interview with the journalists from the TV and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan.

“A number of changes are expected on TV channels starting the new television season. For example, it has been decided that we will be cutting the purchase of foreign entertainment content and TV series by 30 percent. Nickelodeon и Disney предложили перевести на казахский язык

Сегодня в сенате состоялся круглый стол по вопросам национальных ценностей. В мероприятии приняли участие видные государственные и общественные деятели, а также руководство нескольких отечественных министерств, говорится на официальном сайте сената.

ViacomCBS Networks Américas today (October 6) unveiled its upcoming highlights for Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) in 2021 during its annual Upfront conference!


Key points from ViacomCBS Américas' Upfront 2020 conference include:

-- Nickelodeon plans to premiere 400 hours of brand new content throughout 2021. New programming includes the second season of its hit locally produced Club 57 (set to premiere during the second quarter of 2021), as well as a slew of programming from Nickelodeon's global content pipeline, including: SpongeBob spin-offs Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show, the new CG-animated Rugrats reboot, The Smurfs, Young Dylan, Side Hustle, Spyders, and Goldie’s Oldies. Por su parte, MTV confirmó importantes novedades para 2021 que incluyen la producción de la temporada 8 del reality-show ‘Acapulco Shore’; el icónico ‘MTV Unplugged’; y se confirmó que la premiación juvenil ‘Premios MTV MIAW’, regresará el próximo año con su octava edición.

En cuanto a Nickelodeon, la compañía sigue apostando a su más reciente producción original, ‘Club 57’, con el estreno de la segunda temporada en el Q2 de 2021. El próximo año, los Kids’ Choice Awards México tendrán su 12va edición, una única y excelente oportunidad multiplataforma de promoción para anunciantes. Las 400 horas de nuevo contenido para el 2021 incluyen las animaciones ‘Rugrats’, ‘Patrick Starfish’, ‘Camp Koral’, ‘Smurfs’; las series de liveaction ‘Side Hustle’, ‘Spyder’s’, ‘Goldie’s Oldies’ y ‘Young Dillon’ de Tyler Perry y contenido prescolar para Nick Jr. incluyendo ‘Baby Shark’s Big Show’ y ‘Santiago of the Seas’. En agosto del próximo año, se estrenará la primera película en cines de ‘Paw Patrol’, producida por Spin Master en asociación con Nickelodeon y Paramount Network.

Más de 40 millones de niños y familias disfrutan de Nickelodeon a través de sus parques temáticos, espectáculos en vivo, películas 4D, exposiciones, cruceros y resorts. JC Acosta y la visión global de ViacomCBS

En su keynote de MipCancun Online+, el presidente de ViacomCBS International Studios & Networks Americas; repasó la relevancia y estrategia de la compañía como líder en la creación, producción y distribución de contenido a nivel global.

El presidente de ViacomCBS International Studios & Networks Americas, JC Acosta, ofreció en el marco de MipCancun Online+ una keynote para hablar acerca de la actualidad de la compañía luego de la fusión de Viacom y CBS.

«La transformación y la unificación de estas dos empresas han creado un portafolio sumamente poderoso de marcas y de contenidos; desde noticias, deportes, entretenimiento, pop, comedia, música y niños», destacó el ejecutivo.

El ejecutivo subrayó que la compañía cuenta con un alcance global de 4000 millones de suscriptores en TV en 180 países, una biblioteca de franquicias y marcas icónicas que suman 140 mil episodios, 3600 títulos de contenido y una inversión anual de 13 mil millones.

«Para nosotros todo esto ha creado una nueva estructura de cómo vamos a manejar el negocio. El enfoque ahora es en el srteaming, pero estamos estructurados en networks, streaming, estudios y negocios ancilarios», aclaró.

Desde marcas de TV paga como Nick Jr, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Network a TV abierta como Telefe en Argentina; así como el espejo digital de estas cadenas. Los servicios de streaming gratuito y pago, Pluto TV y Paramount+, respectivamente.

Y, claro está, los Viacom International Studios (VIS), a lo que definió como «el corazón que provee de contenido a todas estas plataformas».

La aceleración digital de la mano de Pluto TV y Paramount+

Con respecto a la estrategia de los servicios de streaming AVOD y SVOD, JC Acosta comentó acerca de los lanzamiento de Pluto TV y Paramount+.

«Pluto es una empresa que compró ViacomCBS hace 2 años. Entramos fuertemente en Latinoamérica. Sabíamos que iba a ser un gran complemento. Lanzamos Pluto en el momento donde entró la pandemia y todos estaban en casa. Nos fue sumamente bien», comentó.

El ejecutivo mencionó que, a la fecha, Pluto TV está disponible en 17 países, con 66 canales y 100 socios y 18 mil horas de contenidos, entre los que figura el reciente lanzamiento de Telefe Noticias. El servicio ya cuenta con 6.5 millones de usuarios mensuales en Latinoamérica y Europa.

Asimismo, adelantó que en este mes de noviembre Pluto TV se lanzará en Brasil.

Con respecto a Paramount+, el ejecutivo subrayó que es una app «sumamente amigable», disponible en todos los dispositivos y, con un precio «súper competitivo», y por el cual, al ser un servicio directo al consumidor, es un nuevo desafío y aprendizaje para la compañía.

A la fecha, Paramount+ cuenta con 9000 horas de películas y series de Paramount y CBS, 7000 horas de contenido original de Show Time, CBS All Access, así como de las marcas de ViacomCBS.

Por su parte, destacó que los VIS serán proveedores de contenido para la plataforma SVOD global. «Es una de las iniciativas más importantes de 2021», dijo, al tiempo que destacó producciones como la serie Cecilia que desarrolla Oficina Burman, entre otros proyectos que verán aire en 2022.

Los VIS como el corazón del core

En este sentido, un tramo de la kynote, estuvo centrado en los VIS, que está produciendo unas 400 horas al año de scripted content.

«Hemos creado el estudio en el momento perfecto. Podemos alimentar nuestro ecosistema, así como podemos proveer de contenido a terceros. Al día de hoy, no solamente hay un VIS Américas, sino que tenemos en España, Reino Unido y en Israel».

En este sentido, Acosta mencionó desarrollos como Ex on the Beach con MTV y Amazon, la serie Ana con Amazon, Pantaya y Ana; así como R con Claro Video y Paramount Network.

También mencionó Parot, serie premium al que calificó como un «gran proyecto», y el desarrollo de Los enviados, proyecto en desarrollo de Juan José Campanella.

Asimismo, JC Acosta mencionó que dentro de la estrategia global de VIS surgió la oportunidad de crear un VIS Kids.

«Por muchos años desde Nickelodeon hemos creado más de 1000 horas de contenidos. Obviamente, viendo la demanda de contenido para niños, vimos una oportunidad para crear VIS Kids», comentó.

Entre los proyectos que desarrolla el VIS Kids, figura la animación Gloria, de la mano de Juan José Campanella y Marc Anthony; con quien con ambos creadores cuenta con first look deals para la creación de historias.

Durante la keynote, JC Acosta también destacó el éxito de Telefe, que lidera desde hace 34 meses consecutivos la TV abierta en Argentina, así como el desarrollo de acuerdos con socios como Mercado Libre o el desafío de crear eventos como los Kids Choice Awards o un MTV Unplugged, en el contexto de la pandemia.

El tema fue producido por Bantu Beats para 574 Studio y escrito por Bala y ya se encuentra disponible a través de todas las plataformas digitales.

El sencillo está acompañado por un videoclip que se encuentra disponible en el canal de Youtube de Bala en donde logró acumular más de 326 mil reproducciones.

Además el departamento de Consumer Products de ViacomCBS Networks Latinoamérica y El Palacio de Hierro, se unieron para lanzar en exclusiva una colección de pijamas de Bala, inspirada en ella y en su nuevo sencillo Pijama.

La artista también conduce un nuevo programa que lleva su nombre “Planeta Bala” en Nickelodeon en el que comparte tips para sanar y revertir el daño que le hemos causado al planeta, promoviendo pequeñas acciones que pueden marcar la diferencia.

Es nuestra responsabilidad el cuidado del planeta.” comentó Bala. “Si sigue sin importarnos el cuidado de nuestros recursos, nosotros y las futuras generaciones sufriremos las consecuencias en el camino. Me siento muy honrada de formar parte de esta iniciativa junto a Nick y The Nature Conservancy, donde a través de Planeta Bala podré enseñarle a los niños que hasta la acción más pequeña puede hacer una gran diferencia.”

Tu canción Pijama había sido lanzada anteriormente en formato acústico y ahora tiene una nueva versión, ¿Qué nos podes compartir de esto?

La verdad es que la versión acústica fue algo muy divertido, la grabé en mi casa, fue una experiencia diferente, el 2020 ha sido un cambio muy grande para todos, nos toca adaptarnos, fue el primer videoclip que tuve la oportunidad de hacer así, fue muy divertido. 

Con la versión original de Pijama estoy muy emocionada, cada vez que la escucho no dejo de bailar, creo que genera eso porque mi papá me contó que salió a correr y no pudo parar de escucharla, es una canción que tiene muchas buenas vibras. 

Estoy acostumbrada a escribir mucho de mis sentimientos, la música es una manera muy bonita de expresarte, yo siento que soy una persona muy sentimental, muy sensible, por ahí dicen que es porque soy de cáncer, soy muy apasionada, por eso me gusta mucho la música y esta canción es muy diferente a lo que hago normalmente, rompe completamente en contraste, es de divertirse, sobre esos días que te levantas en la mañana, con tu pijama y no quieres hacer otra cosa que disfrutar el día, no te quieres ni cambiar, por eso me gusta tanto esta canción, porque fue diferente, divertida y con buenas vibras, en especial esta versión que el mismo beat te hace bailar y sentir la canción.

¿Cuál es tu momento para componer?

La verdad es que no hay un momento en mi vida para componer, pero me gusta mucho la noche porque desde que soy chica soy una persona muy nocturna, me cuesta trabajo dormir en la noche y no me gusta despertarme temprano, a veces me despierto a las 3 de la mañana con una epifanía musical y me dan ganas de salir corriendo al piano y componer, pero depende mucho, a veces simplemente comienzo a componer en la calle, cuando estoy de viaje y también me ha pasado que la inspiración no salía y mi madre me dijo una frase de Pablo Picasso: ‘’la inspiración se encuentra, pero se encuentra trabajando’’, me gusta porque es muy real, no siempre hay inspiración, podes estar 3 horas con la guitarra y tener la mente en blanco, es normal, pero también es bonito empujarte a ti misma a que sientas la música y que cuando llegue algo sientas la satisfacción de que después de tanto trabajar llega algo que te gusta, por eso he escrito canciones en media hora y otras en meses, tengo muchas que aún no han salido, siempre es buen momento para componer.

¿Cómo es tu relación con tus “Balovers”?

Pues la verdad que con todo esto ha sido un poco triste para mí, yo soy muy feliz cuando me encuentro a personas en la calle, para pedirme una foto o platicar 5 minutos, me gusta mucho eso porque vivimos en un momento donde todo es muy mediático, siempre estamos atrás de una pantalla, ahora nos ha favorecido mucho el tener cosas como las videollamadas, pero me gusta mucho tener el contacto real con una persona, mirar a los ojos y abrazar a una persona que lleva siguiéndote hace tanto tiempo y que quizás tu no lo sabias, porque tengo la fortuna de tener en el medio una familia muy grande entonces no conozco a todos por su nombre y personalmente, aunque trato de hacerlo pero es medio imposible. Cuando llega alguien en la calle y se refiere a mi es muy bonito porque ni siquiera nos conocemos, disfruto mucho que platiquemos, me ayuda a crecer, últimamente ha sido complicado, pero me gusta mucho, me gusta saber quién es esa persona que detrás de una pantalla te da tanto amor, me gusta conocerlos a todos.

¿Cómo fue este tiempo de confinamiento en casa con tus hermanas?

Fue una cosa loca, mi familia es una locura, a mis hermanas les llevo 12 años, son muy chiquitas, pero mis papás son un gran equipo, los admiro muchísimo porque logran coordinar para entretener a una niña de 16 años y a 2 niñas que apenas están creciendo, la más grande está por cumplir 5 años apenas, es algo muy loco pero he disfrutado pasar más tiempo con ellas, antes de esta locura casi ni estaba en mi casa, al principio fue muy duro porque no estaba acostumbrada a estar tanto tiempo con mi familia en mi casa, mis hermanas son muy chiquitas y no lograron entender del todo lo que paso y mis padres tuvieron que adaptarse a las clases en línea de mis hermanas, pero la verdad es que cuando nos empezamos a adaptar disfrutamos bastante el tiempo en familia, comenzamos a jugar, le he enseñado a mi hermana a tocar el piano, apenas sabe unas pocas canciones y ya dice que me superará. 

Últimamente he estado un poco más movida, con todas las medidas de precaución, pero también desde casa he estado haciendo muchas sorpresas, como Pijama que lo disfruté muchísimo, creo que es la mejor forma de invertir mi tiempo porque hago música que es lo que más amo, fue muy divertido.

Recientemente comenzó en Nickelodeon un programa que es un gran aporte al medio ambiente.¿Qué te gustaría que pase con Planeta Bala en el público?

Mi objetivo es llegar a quien pueda llegar, que una persona que me sigue o no vea esto y abra la mente de que el planeta puede sin nosotros, pero nosotros no podemos sin él, creo que el objetivo es ver la parte positiva, todas las posibilidades que tenemos para ayudar, me gustaría que se vean estas posibilidades y ver que podemos hacer de este planeta algo muy bonito cuidándolo y no desperdiciar todo lo que la naturaleza nos ha dado que es muy bonito.

Giornata dei diritti infanzia, ViacomCBS celebra il diritto al gioco

Roma, 18 nov. (askanews) - In Italia, grazie alla forza dei suoi brand - Super!, Nickelodeon e NickJr - ViacomCBS Networks si schiera ogni anno in prima linea per sostenere la Giornata Internazionale dei diritti dell'infanzia promossa dall'Onu del prossimo 20 novembre.

ViacomCBS non dimentica la sua primaria vocazione, creare contenuti di qualità che sappiano divertire e insegnare ai più piccoli i valori inalienabili e, anche quest'anno, non verrà a meno al suo impegno proponendo una giornata con tante attività che possono essere realizzate nelle proprie case coinvolgendo tutta la famiglia.

L'obiettivo è, infatti, quello di trovare il tempo di stare insieme ai propri figli, guardando le loro serie animate preferite, giocando insieme e traendo spunto anche dalle serie proposte dai canali kids & family di ViacomCBS Italia.

Per questo importante weekend a loro dedicato, Super!, Nickelodeon e NickJr, propongono una programmazione speciale adatta a tutta la famiglia. Nickelodeon Collaborates with Marlou Breuls and Laauw for SpongeBob Bag Collection

From Bikini Bottom to the catwalk!


Nickelodeon has partnered with the Amsterdam based designer Marlou Breuls and the Dutch fashion brand Laauw to launch a brand-new bag collection inspired by Nickelodeon's hit animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants!

Breuls, who previously launched a SpongeBob fashion line at Amsterdam Fashion Week 2019 as part of Nickelodeon's "Best Year Ever" initiative to celebrate 20 years of the beloved property, is once again inspired by iconic property for this collaboration. "It is fantastic to get inspiration from something that everyone knows. Every '90s kid grew up with the (sea) stars from Bikini Bottom,” said Breuls, who has collaborated with global stars such as Sia and Björk.

For this reason Breuls is also delighted that her designs are now available to everyone. “My couture collections are often eccentric and exclusive and therefore not necessarily wearable for many people. In this collaboration we have taken the strong SpongeBob elements of The Icon Collection with us and translated into a bag collection for everyone.”

For Joep Klerx, one of the owners of Laauw and a SpongeBob superfan, this collaboration was a dream come true: "When we came into contact with Nickelodeon and Marlou for this collaboration, it was literally a childhood dream come true."

The main intention of the collection was to make an affordable product with a mature look.

The collection consists of a wide range of designs for women and men in shades of SpongeBob yellow, grey and black. A selection of bags feature a design with yellow dots to replicate SpongeBob's porous holes. The shape of the character's hands have also been used to close some bags. Other rectangular bags have a wavy edge that refers to the shape of the figure. Each bag bears the names of the Bikini Bottom residents, such as SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, Plankton and Pearl Krabs.

To promote the collection, a one-of-a-kind bag in the shape of SpongeBob, including arms, legs and feet was produced. Unfortunately, this isn't part of the collection.

The bag collection, entitled SpongeBob x Marlou Breuls x Laauw is available from today (Wednesday 18th November 2020), exclusively on the Laauw webshop. Prices range from 129 euros to 249 euros.

Hij woont in een ananas diep in de zee: SpongeBob natuurlijk. Samen met de Nederlandse ontwerpster Marlou Breuls en het merk Laauw komt het tekenfilmfiguur met zijn eigen tassencollectie.

Zo loop je binnenkort weg met een Spongebob-geïnspireerd design aan je arm. Wij zijn er klaar voor.

SPONGEBOB

Marlou Breuls, die eerder een collectie wijdde aan het felgele fenomeen, laat zich voor deze samenwerking opnieuw inspireren door SpongeBob SquarePants. “Wie kan nou zeggen dat-ie een collectie mag maken met een jeugdidool als inspiratie?” aldus Breuls, die ook creaties maakte voor wereldsterren als Sia en Björk. “Naast kunstzinnige mode is het fantastisch om inspiratie te halen uit iets dat iedereen kent. Elke nineties kid is opgegroeid met de (zee)sterren uit Bikinibroek.”

Breuls vindt het om die reden ook geweldig dat haar ontwerpen nu voor iedereen beschikbaar zijn. “Mijn couture-collecties zijn vaak excentriek en exclusief en daardoor voor veel mensen niet per se draagbaar. In deze samenwerking hebben we de sterke SpongeBob-elementen van de The Icon Collection meegenomen en vertaald naar een tassencollectie voor iedereen.”

KINDERDROOM

Ook Joep Klerx, één van de eigenaars van Laauw, uit zijn enthousiasme over de tassencollectie: “Ik deed al aan bingewatchen voordat het een begrip was, want ik heb als kind alle afleveringen van SpongeBob wel drie keer gezien”, vertelt hij. “Toen we in contact kwamen met Nickelodeon en Marlou voor deze samenwerking, was dat letterlijk een kinderdroom die uitkwam.”

De tassencollectie, die vanaf vandaag verkrijgbaar is, bestaat uit acht ontwerpen in verschillende kleuren, waaronder natúúrlijk de kleur geel. De tassen dragen de namen van de Bikinibroek-inwoners, zoals Mr. Krabs en Patrick Ster.

Spongebob als een mode-icoon? Niet de meest voor de handliggende keuze. Toch kwamen mode en het Nickelodeon-figuur vorig jaar samen tijdens Amsterdam Fashion Week en nu in de tassencollectie van ontwerper Marlou Breuls en tassenmerk Laauw.

Marlou Breuls presenteerde tijdens Amsterdam Fashion Week in maart 2019 al een collectie geïnspireerd door Spongebob Squarepants. De collectie kreeg de naam ‘The Icon Collection’ en was ter ere van de 20ste verjaardag van het personage. Niet alleen was de kledingcollectie verrassend en een waar hoogtepunt van de modeweek, ook de tassen die werden gebruikt in de show spraken tot de verbeelding. In de samenwerking met Laauw heeft Breuls nu elementen gepakt uit de ‘The Icon Collection’ en deze vertaald naar een collectie voor iedereen, zo meldt de ontwerper in het persbericht. Tassenmerk Laauw voegt daar aan toe dat het vooral de bedoeling was een betaalbaar product te maken met een volwassen uitstraling.

Spongebob komt tot leven in tassencollectie Marlou Breuls en Laauw

Kenmerkende elementen van het Nickelodeon-figuur zijn te vinden in de collectie. Zo zijn (gele) stippen verwerkt in diverse ontwerpen die doen denken aan de gaten van de sponsachtige substantie waaruit Spongebob bestaat. Ook zijn voor de sluiting van enkele tassen de vorm van de handen van het karakter gebruikt. Andere rechthoekige tassen hebben dan weer een gegolfde rand die verwijst naar de vorm die het figuur heeft. Bij de presentatie van ‘The Icon Collection’ waren tassen te zien die de gehele vorm van Spongebob nabootsten compleet met armen, benen, handen en voeten, maar deze variant is helaas niet te vinden in de collectie van Marlou Breuls x Laauw.
