Blue's Clues & You! Host Josh Introduces Viewers to His "Lola"

“Blue’s Clues & You!” host Josh Dela Cruz (L), Carolyn Fe and the fictional puppy named Blue.

Nickelodeon's beloved preschool series Blue's Clues & You! is set to highlight the Filipino roots of its host, Filipino American Josh Dela Cruz, in an upcoming episode.

Dela Cruz introduces his lola (grandmother) to the show’s viewers when she visits his home, as seen in a snippet shared by E.J. Ramos David, Ph.D. on Twitter today (Nov. 13). Filipino Canadian actor Carolyn Fe portrays Dela Cruz’s grandmother in the episode.

After Dela Cruz lets her in and gives her a hug, he then bows slightly and presses his forehead to one of her hands — a Filipino gesture called “mano po.” It is used to show respect to one’s elders. “It’s my lola!” Josh proudly exclaims.

“We have an entire generation of American kids being exposed to a Filipino dude on TV, doing the ‘Mano po’ to his Lola, [and] making bibingka. My kids are seeing their lives on TV,” David said.

David is a clinical psychologist, author and professor who discusses internalized oppression and colonial mentality in his works. Following David’s post, fellow Filipinos could not help but express their joy over the upcoming episode.

“I didn’t think this would make me cry, but it did,” a certain @marscaplsw said alongside a GIF of a teary-eyed Will Smith.

Meanwhile, @superkirby982 stated that even though the original show Blue’s Clues - the series Blue's Clues & You! is a remake of - previously featured a Filipino dish called “Paella Rice,” the new episode “takes the cake.”

“The [mano po], which is a gesture we do to greet relatives, the bibingka, which I never had before but I’d like to try, Josh referring to his grandma as [lola], etc. I just love it so much!” the Twitter user stated.

"I JUST SAW THIS AND I’M ACTUALLY TEARING UP OMG THE FILIPINO REPRESENTATION," said @eternalnamgi. "i watched blues clues growing up in the philippines and this seriously means so much to me!!! little filipino kids can finally see themselves on tv ahhh my heart".

“Ok but the minute he said ‘it’s my lola!’ Then did the mano po, a singular tear fell. Representation really does matter,” @davostating1 noted.

"I know everyone is talking about Josh & how amazing he is (b/c he is) & I just wanna say my parents adore him. With age, they’ve taken to winding down with Nick Jr. before bed & they love Peppa Pig & the new Blues Clues. My dad was like 'I really like this Josh guy. He’s good!'," said @shannondrewthis, adding "Blues Clues will forever hold a special place in me and my family’s heart and I’m so glad we get to have a Filipino guy sharing with us and inspiring more kids and just keeping that warmth of the show alive! Go Josh!".

The new episode, titled “Blue’s Big Baking Show" will premiere on Friday, Nov. 20 at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon USA.

Pluto TV, the ad-supported streaming service from ViacomCBS-owned, has launched a festive-themed Nickelodeon pop-up channel in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland!

Titled "Nick Christmas," the channel is airing Christmas episodes of popular Nickelodeon shows, including iCarly, SpongeBob SquarePants, Big Time Rush and more. The "Nick Christmas" pop-up channel launched on Monday 16th November 2020, and joins previously announced permanent channels, Nick Pluto TV, Nick Jr. Pluto TV and NickRewind.

"Nick Christmas" is one of six recently launched Christmas-themed pop-up channels on Pluto TV. Additional highlights include "Fireplace," featuring a virtual fire place. The "Fireplace" channel will launch on Tuesday 1st December 2020.

Viewers can watch live channels and on-demand content directly through the Pluto.TV website via their preferred web browser on all Internet-enabled devices, and through the Pluto TV app, available to download for free from the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices.

Kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Young Dylan will join the Nickelodeon family with the brand-new live-action series, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, premiering Saturday 5th December 2020 at 20h50 on Nickelodeon France. Following launch, new episodes will continue to air Saturdays at 20h50 on the Nickelodeon channel in France.

Nickelodeon and Spin Master have teamed up with ParkAcre for PAW Patrol and SpongeBob-branded kids’ vitamins

The UK nutraceutical manufacturer, ParkAcre has launched its new PAW Patrol and SpongeBob SquarePants vitamin ranges for kids across the U.K., made available exclusively at Holland & Barrett. The new range encompasses Multivitamin Fizzy Drinks and vitamin Chewables, developed to support the all-round health of young children.

Designed for pre-school kids, the PAW Patrol range features the rescue pups from the hit series produced by Spin Master Entertainment and broadcast on Nickelodeon. Meanwhile, for slightly older children, the SpongeBob SquarePants line has been inspired by SpongeBob’s nautical adventures under the sea in Nickelodeon's hit animated television series.

The launch marks the start of ParkAcre’s partnership with ViacomCBS to bring its beloved characters out of Adventure Bay and Bikini Bottom and into the homes of kids everywhere. As the UK’s leading health and wellbeing store Holland & Barrett will be stocking the range in-store and online, with full exclusivity until the end of 2020.

Nickelodeon Animation has announced the Turtley Awesome news that the studio will be hosting a Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel as part of the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International's TAAFI INDUSTRY 2020 conference!

Titled "EVERYONE needs to watch RISE of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", the session invites fans to join the Rise of the TMNT team for an in-depth celebration on the heart, art & artistry of the half shell heroes! The session will take place online on Wednesday, November 18th 2020 between 8:00PM - 9:00PM (ET). Following the live-stream, the panel will be available to watch online for three months.

JJ Conway, Head of Story, Nickelodeon Animation

JJ Conway has worked in the animation industry since 2011 at studios such as Nickelodeon, Warner Bros Animation, Hasbro, and Titmouse. He directed on the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and currently serves as Head of Story on the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for Netflix. Kevin Molina-Ortiz is an Annie Award winning board artist who made a name for himself by drawing a bunch turtles practice ninjitsu. He is most known for his storyboard work on Nickelodeon’s Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And he now serves as Head of Story on the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for Netflix. On his free time, he does pretty much anything that isn’t drawing turtles.

Nickelodeon will be hosting a series of sessions at CTN-Live, the virtual version of the CTN Animation eXpo, which will take place between Monday, November 16 - Sunday, November 22.

While the in-person aspects of the annual CTN animation eXpo move to 2021, the Creative Talent Network (CTN), in partnership with Visit Burbank, has reimagined the 2020 edition as a virtual, online event. CTN-Live, which has a “Revive and Thrive” theme.

This will not be just another online event; the new format is designed as a week-long retreat to reboot, recharge and reset for artists to work together toward new landscapes, channels, and opportunities.

Offered free of charge, CTN-LIVE will be a 24/7 immersive creative weeklong retreat open to anyone looking to recharge their artistic energies and to get ready for 2021. This one-of-a kind event will offer interactive experiences, coaching, talks, demos, recruiting, scholarships, and current topics that are resonating in all our lives and to help launch us as creators into 2021.

These days, Amanda Bynes is mostly out of the spotlight. However, fans still look back fondly of when the actor was making viewers laugh on The Amanda Show, most notably in the hilarious sketch “Moody’s Point.”

Amanda Bynes was born in California in 1986. Her mother worked as a dental assistant, while her father, Rick Bynes, was a popular dentist. Bynes started acting when she was a toddler, appearing in commercials and stage productions before she was even 10 years old. Her parents encouraged her acting career, driving her to various auditions and job interviews. In the early nineties, Bynes attended a comedy camp at the Los Angeles Laugh Factory. While there, she was spotted by a Nickelodeon executive, who approached the young girl about trying out for a new series at Nickelodeon.

Bynes landed a featured role in the popular sketch show All That and appeared on the show from seasons three through six. In addition to All That, Bynes was a regular face on the network, including being a regular player on the game show Figure It Out. The young comedian proved that she could take on any creative challenge, displaying a maturity well beyond her years. It was her maturity, as well as her talent, that likely led to her very own series, The Amanda Show.

The Amanda Show was a sketch comedy series in the tradition of Saturday Night Live— but was designed for a younger audience. It premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999, when Amanda Bynes was only thirteen years old. The series itself was designed as a spinoff of All That, but ultimately, it became even more popular than it’s origin series, running for three seasons before going off the air in 2002.

The Amanda Show is responsible for launching Bynes as a teen icon, and the same year that her series ended, she began to appear in more mature roles in the sitcom What I Like About You and movies like Big Fat Liar. She was a regular fixture in teen magazines and was widely considered to be one of Hollywood’s most promising young stars.

On The Amanda Show, Amanda Bynes showcased her talent in sketches like “Judge Trudy”, "Blockblister" and “So You Want to Win Five Dollars?” All the sketches were designed not only to highlight the talents of the young cast but also to spoof popular culture in some form. One of the most popular skits was one called “Moody Point,” a humorous take on teen television dramas such as Dawson’s Creek, a popular 2000s series. “Moody’s Point” was a recurring sketch, and included guest stars like Taran Killam (who would later achieve Saturday Night Live fame and a starring role in the sitcom Single Parents) and Ashley Tisdale.

"Moody’s Point"focuses on Moody (Amanda Bynes), an emotionally exaggerated teen whose mother is lost in a hot air balloon and whose father is missing a toe. It featured her friends, such as Brie (Lauren Petty), Moody's best friend; Misty (Molly Orr), a girl who is always upset and easily offended; the nerdy Spalding (Taran Killam), a boy who has a huge crush on Moody but gets criticized by her in a ridiculous way and constantly has objects flung at him from beyond the screen; and Sternum (Matthew Botuchis), a brooding bad boy who responds to every question by asking the opposite question. Each episode had its own plot.

The last episode ends with Moody finding out that her real parents are circus trapeze artists named "The Flying Worthsbergs". Unfortunately, at the end of the episode, the screen shows the words "To Be Continued", but The Amanda Show was cancelled shortly thereafter ending the sketch on a cliffhanger, so the story was never resolved.

According to E!, the “Moody’s Point” skit became so popular with fans that it was pitched to Nickelodeon as its very own spinoff series, starring Killam. A showrunner revealed that the series “would have been similar to Zoey 101, but with much more bizarre, absurd, random comedy.” Still, Nickelodeon decided to pass on the spinoff, opting to back other projects instead. Killam went on to star on another well-known sketch series, of course, and “Moody’s Point” only lives on today in the form of reruns of The Amanda Show.

The theme song of “Moody’s Point”, "For All I Am" by Lisa Smith is just as iconic as the spoof!

Additionally, one of the series' most enduring bits (and memes) are the dancing lobsters that would come in at the end of every Judge Trudy (a play on Judge Judy) skit, with Trudy (Amanda) proclaiming, "Court dismissed, bring in the dancing lobsters!" Lobster No. 2? Josh!

Singer/Songwriter ARIA Releases Music Video for Original Song “Am I Next?”

Singer and songwriter ARIA (who you may know as Aria Brooks from Nickelodeon’s All That) has released the music video for her original song “Am I Next?”.

In it, she contemplates the dangers facing her generation and the African American community today as well as the importance of speaking out for social justice. ARIA wrote the song in July and the subject matter is very important to her. She adds, “I wrote ‘Am I Next?’ back in July after seeing killing after killing of people who looked like me. Once we got into the recording process it was moreso me wanting to take action. I am saddened and scared but it’s time to stop this. The recording process was long and there were struggles along the way but, I think, in the end, I delivered my best and it will inspire many people.”

The Ninja Turtles Chill at Home in Delightful Print Collection

The world’s most fearsome fighting team works hard. Even heroes in a half shell have to rest sometimes, though. But how exactly do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unwind? A delightful new set of limited prints titled “Turtles’ Day Off” is here to answer that question. The collection shows how each of Splinter’s boys relaxes at home.

And it’s absolutely perfect.

Skybound, iam8bit, and Nickelodeon have teamed up for the third release in their Lean/Mean/Green: A TMNT Limited Edition Art Print Series. This time the turtle power is off as the guys kick back at home. And each is doing it alone in their own unique way. Designer-illustrator Philip Tseng has managed to fully capture all four of the Heroes in a Half-Shell in a manner that highlights who they are whether they’re fighting evildoers on the streets of New York City or staying home on a quiet weekend.

“In ‘Meditate,’ Leo channels his inner Zen warrior next to a perfectly pruned Bonsai tree (a sly reference to a scene from the 1990 live-action film). In ‘Gym,’ Raph blows off some steam in the gang’s dojo, sai in hand, headphones snugly in place. In ‘Chill,’ Mikey takes the day off in stride by vegging out on the couch with a slice of his beloved pepperoni. And in ‘Tinker,’ Donnie throws a pizza party for one with the help of a friendly neighborhood drone.”

The collection is also features references to other characters like Shredder, Splinter, and April O’Neil. Thanks to a playful tone and gorgeous aesthetic, though, the collection also feels wholly original.

These 10 x 10 inch prints are Giclée quality. That means they are museum quality prints “made from archival, fade-resistant ink and acid-free, fine art paper.” They are also each hand-numbered and signed by the artist. Each is available for $30, or $120 for a complete set of four. However, they won’t be around long.

Avatar The Last Airbender Crew Gets an Impressive Live-Action Makeover

Avatar: The Last Airbender, the legendary animated series that was produced by Nickelodeon, hit the streaming service of Netflix earlier this year and a group of fans have decided to try their hand at bringing Aang and the rest of the benders in his crew would look if they got a "live action" makeover. Netflix is currently working on putting together a live action series for the beloved franchise, but some fans simply don't want to wait until the television show lands on the streaming service by taking matters into their own hands with unique examples of cosplay!

When Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered in 2005, we were introduced to a world of "benders", aka people that had the ability to manipulate the elements such as air, water, fire, and earth. Aang, the latest Avatar, was frozen in ice for one hundred years, causing him to be known as the "last airbender" as his clan had fallen to the wayside and gone extinct. With the Fire Nation attempting to rule the world with an iron fist, the Avatar puts together a crew of benders, and Sokka, to help him in uniting the world and stopping the likes of the Fire Lord Ozai and his fire bending forces.

Reddit User 2Absideon3 shared this series of life-like portraits for the "Aang Gang", bringing to life characters such as Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph far before the upcoming Netflix series that will look to create the first live action television series for the franchise of Avatar: The Last Airbender:

This isn't the first time that we've seen Aang and his friends brought into the world of live action, with M. Night Shyamalan giving his own take on the world of bending with his 2010 feature length film. Though the movie was controversial, to say the least, it was the first time that we got to see the series translated into a new medium. The original creators of Avatar were originally slated to be a part of the Netflix live action series, and though they departed from it earlier this year, fans are crossing their fingers that it will still be a welcome part of the franchise that made Aang and friends so popular.

Baby Shark will swim onto Nickelodeon with a holiday episode of his brand-new animated preschool series, Baby Shark’s Big Show! this December on Nickelodeon! Titled “Baby Shark’s Big Fishmas Special”, the episode will premiere on Friday, December 11 at 12:30 p.m, (ET/PT).

In “Baby Shark’s Big Fishmas Special,” with Fishmas just around the corner, the season’s hottest toy--Burpin’ Bubbz--is at the top of Baby’s and William’s wish lists and when Santa Jaws goes missing, it’s up to them to save the holiday. Following the premiere, the special will be available on Nick Jr. On Demand and Download-To-Own services, as well as NickJr.com and the Nick Jr. App, which will also feature short-form content. (formally titled "All I Want for Fishmas")

Based on the world-famous pop culture phenomenon and co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and SmartStudy, the global entertainment company behind the beloved children’s brand Pinkfong, Baby Shark’s Big Show! (working title) is a 2D-animated series (26 half-hour episodes) that will follow Baby Shark and his best friend William as they journey on fun-filled comedic adventures in their community of Carnivore Cove, meet new friends and sing original catchy tunes along the way.

The 2D-animated series will feature a swim-sational lineup of actors: Kimiko Glenn (Orange is the New Black); Luke Youngblood (Glitch Techs, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone); Natasha Rothwell (Insecure); Eric Edelstein (Hotel for Dogs, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, We Bare Bears); Debra Wilson (MADtv); and Patrick Warburton (Tak & the Power of Juju, The X's, Seinfeld, Family Guy).

Meet the inhabitants of Carnivore Cove:

Baby (Glenn) – A sweet, bubbly, and abso-toothly fearless little shark who has a habit of biting off more than he can chew.
William (Youngblood) – A quick-witted pilot fish with a flair for the funny, William is always down for jaw-some adventures with his best bud Baby.
Mommy (Rothwell) – Fun-loving with a fierce streak, Mommy Shark works for the Mayor of Carnivore Cove.
Daddy (Edelstein) – A worrier who can’t help his loud and goofy nature, Daddy Shark is a dentist who flosses when he’s nervous.
Grandma (Wilson) – A new-agey prankster who’s all about good vibes and bubbleberry pies.
Grandpa (Warburton) – A charismatic shark who loves to tell stories about the glory days.

Following the Baby Shark’s Big Show! holiday special, Nickelodeon will fully premiere the all-new Baby Shark animated series across its preschool platforms in spring 2021. Following the U.S. launch, the series will roll out on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels internationally. In addition to Nickelodeon and SmartStudy’s partnership to produce Baby Shark’s Big Show!, ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) is managing consumer products licensing worldwide, excluding China, Korea and Southeast Asia, for the Baby Shark property.

Baby Shark launched on YouTube in November 2015 and took the world by storm, amassing 5.7 billion views and becoming the second most-watched video in the platform’s history. With music, characters, story and dance all combined together, the song recorded a 20-week-streak on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned a viral phenomenon #BabySharkChallenge, generating over one million cover videos around the globe.

Baby Shark’s Big Show! is executive produced by Gary “Doodles” DiRaffaele (Breadwinners) and Tommy Sica (Breadwinners), with Whitney Ralls (My Little Pony: Equestria Girls) serving as co-executive producer.
