HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—August 27, 2020—Nickelodeon has ordered an additional six episodes of its remotely produced talk show Group Chat and seven episodes of its game show Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered. Social media star Brent Rivera, who has amassed over 73 million followers across his social media platforms, joins current co-host Jayden Bartels for Group Chat with Jayden and Brent. Rivera also serves as executive producer on the series. Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered will return with new episodes beginning Saturday, Sept. 5, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), followed by the premiere of Group Chat with Jayden and Brent at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

Group Chat with Jayden and Brent is a video chat rundown of the week’s latest hot topics, taken directly from what kids love and are talking about across social media. Each episode introduces audiences to different celebrity guests as they play games and give viewers insight into their lives. Celebrity guests who have appeared to date include: Ben Simmons, Anna Cathcart, Alex Wassabi, Peyton List and Johnny Orlando, as well as cast members of The Kissing Booth 2 (Joel Courtney, Joey King, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Taylor Zakhar Perez) and Feel the Beat (Sofia Carson and Wolfgang Novogratz).

In Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered, hosted by actor and comedian Jay Pharoah, panelists Lex Lumpkin and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green from All That, along with America’s Got Talent winner Darci Lynne, must guess the identities of virtually disguised celebrity guests, who are hidden behind an animated 3D filter and voice changer. The panel works to decipher the mystery through rounds of Q&A, wacky trivia and hilarious game competitions. Mystery guests who have appeared to date include Chance the Rapper, David Dobrik, Iain Armitage (Young Sheldon), Liza Koshy (Double Dare), All That alum Gabriel Iglesias, Asher Angel and Candance Cameron Bure.

The first season of Group Chat, which Bartels co-hosted with Annie LeBlanc, debuted May 23 and ranked as the number-one unscripted live-action show on cable with kids 6-11 in the second quarter of 2020. Nickelodeon’s Unfiltered premiered on July 11 and is currently the number-one ranked unscripted live-action show across all TV with kids 6-11 to date.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--Feb. 24, 2020--Nickelodeon today announced the greenlight of Side Hustle, a brand-new live-action buddy comedy starring social media sensations and real-life best friends, Annie LeBlanc and Jayden Bartels. The multi-camera series centers on best friends, Lex (LeBlanc) and Presley (Bartels), who have to create a business fast after inadvertently destroying their neighbor’s car. Created and executive produced by Dave Malkoff (Henry Danger, Sam & Cat, Victorious) and shot in front of a live studio audience, Side Hustle (13 half-hour episodes) will begin production in Los Angeles this March and premiere later this year on Nickelodeon.

“Annie and Jayden are two massively talented stars who kids adore, and we think our audience is going to love seeing them in their own show on Nick,” said Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. “Side Hustle is a new take on the classic buddy comedy, full of wild and hilarious adventures for our unique cast of characters.”

Lex, Presley and their quirky friend Munchy (Isaiah Crews) find themselves in a sticky situation after an accidental mishap destroys the police vehicle belonging to Munchy’s dad. Forced to come up with creative ways to earn money to pay for the damages, the best friends enlist the help of Presley’s tech-savvy younger brother, Fisher (Mitchell Berg), to create an app called “Kid-DING” to connect with people looking for help with small jobs. With Munchy’s bossy older brother Jaget (Jacques Chevelle) making sure they keep up with the payments, the three friends must do any jobs that come their way--no matter how crazy they are.

LeBlanc is an actress and singer who first came to social prominence in her family’s YouTube channel, “Bratayley.” She has since amassed over 27 million followers across her own social media platforms, and can be seen starring in Brat’s hit YouTube series Chicken Girls and A Girl Named Jo, and the YouTube Red Originals series We Are Savvy. As a singer LeBlanc’s had six songs in the Top Ten iTunes Pop charts, and two Top 50 Billboard Chart hits. She recently won “Choice Music Web Star” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, “Muser of the Year” at the 2018 Shorty Awards, and is currently nominated for “Favorite Female Social Star” at the 2020 Kids’ Choice Awards. In 2019, LeBlanc joined the Nickelodeon family starring in Annie vs. Hayley, a digital competition show with her younger sister Hayley, and co-hosted Camp Nick alongside Bartels.

Bartels is a singer, actress and dancer who has made a name for herself both on camera and on the stage. Having written and arranged every song she’s released, she debuted her first EP titled “What Really Matters?” last year and released her most recent single “Gameboy” earlier this month. She’s currently on tour opening for pop rock band Echosmith across the U.S., and she went out on a European tour with English singing duo Max & Harvey in 2019. She has a following of almost 12 million across her social media platforms, as well as over 1.6 billion likes on TikTok. On screen, Bartels has played a recurring role Disney Channel’s Coop & Cami Ask the World and lead in the films To The Beat! and its’ upcoming sequel, To The Beat! Back 2 School. She can also be seen in episodes of Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, Showtime’s Kidding and CBS’s Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—May 18, 2020--Nickelodeon, TIME and TIME for Kids today announced that submissions have opened for the first-ever Kid of the Year honor, a multiplatform initiative recognizing extraordinary young leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities. Now through Aug. 1, parents, teachers, friends and more, can nominate a kid (aged 8-16) who is doing incredible and inspiring things to make the world a better place. Five honorees will be featured in a TV special—hosted by Trevor Noah (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah) and simulcast on Nick and the CBS Television Network in December--with one kid ultimately being recognized as TIME Kid of the Year and featured on a cover of TIME with a companion story in TIME For Kids.

The Kid of the Year TV special will also feature stars from entertainment, sports and pop culture surprising the honorees, as well as musical performances. Each of the finalists will receive funds to further their respective causes and have the opportunity to serve as a Kid Reporter for TIME for Kids with exclusive access to a Nickelodeon event. Update (9/4) - Nickelodeon and TIME have named Jayda Washington-Boothe as a Top 50 Finalist for Kid of the Year 2020, and is now awaiting word if she has made the Top 20! The 12-year-old from Coral Springs, Florida was recently was awarded an opportunity to have an out-of-this-world experience: the opportunity via a scholarship to attend Space Camp located at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. As a recipient of the 2020 U.S. Rocket and Space Center Hall of Fame Scholarship, it is an honor given to only a select number of students across America. Boothe is a seventh-grader at Sawgrass Middle School. Congratulations and good luck, Jayda!

'Ren & Stimpy' Creator's Accuser Urges ViacomCBS To Cancel Planned Reboot

A online Change.org petition to halt the planned reboot of Nickelodeon's iconic '90s series The Ren & Stimpy Show has been launched by one of the individuals who has alleged sexual misconduct by the show's creator, John Kricfalusi.


Update (9/4) - The petition has now garnered just over 12,000 signatures.

Robyn Byrd publicly accused Kricfalusi of having a relationship with her during the 1990s, during the original run of Ren & Stimpy. Byrd and Kricfalusi began communicating when Byrd was 14 years old. When she was 16, she moved in with Kricfalusi while working as an intern at Kricfalusi's animation studio, Spumco. According to Byrd, Kricfalusi touched her inappropriately while she was still a minor.

Byrd's petition claims that ViacomCBS's reboot of Ren & Stimpy, expected to be aired on Comedy Central, will bring back bad memories for both fans of the show and individuals who used to work for Kricfalusi.

Byrd wrote that Kricfalusi, also known as John K., may reenter the public spotlight if the reboot becomes successful. "This man used Ren & Stimpy to lure young people to his studio and into his confidence, only to abuse them, stunt their careers, and molest young girls," Byrd's petition read. "He WILL DO IT AGAIN. Not only that, but seeing his characters come back to life will re-traumatize many of his victims."

"Bringing back original crew to work on the film would be difficult and contentious," Byrd added. "Even if they wanted to come back, again Viacom would only be recycling [intellectual property]."

Newsweekreached out to ViacomCBS for comment.

When allegations against Kricfalusi became public in 2018, an attorney for Kricfalusi said in a statement to BuzzFeed News that the 1990s were "a time of mental and emotional fragility" for Kricfalusi.

"Over the years John struggled with what were eventually diagnosed mental illnesses in 2008," the statement continued. "To that point, for nearly three decades he had relied primarily on alcohol to self-medicate."

Kricfalusi is not expected to be involved with the new production, nor is he slated to receive any money from the show's relaunch.

Ren & Stimpy originally aired from 1991-1995 on the Nickelodeon network. Displaying a surprisingly adult sense of humor for a program shown on a children's television network, Ren & Stimpy became a hit. Kricfalusi was fired from the program in 1993 by Nickelodeon executives who chalked Kricfalusi's release up to creative differences.

The series followed the adventures of title characters Ren, an emotionally unstable Chihuahua, and Stimpy, a good-natured yet dimwitted cat often referred to by his pal as "EEEDIOT". (Their proper names are Ren Hoek and Stimpson J. Cat.) It aired for nearly 100 episodes over five seasons on Nickelodeon. The following year, the series had a run on MTV.

Kricfalusi rebooted the program as Ren & Stimpy’s Adult Cartoon Party in 2003 on the Spike TV network. Amping up the adult themes, the show received a TV-MA rating. Terrible reviews and adverse fan reaction caused the cancellation of the show after only three of the six planned episodes were aired.

Allegations of misconduct have been leveled against others in the animation businesses. In 2017, then-head of Pixar John Lasseter was forced to step down after being named by multiple individuals as making unwanted sexual advances. In 2019, Lasseter was named the head of Skydance Animation.

Lasseter's appointment caused actor Emma Thompson to pull out of a role in an upcoming Skydance Animation production. "If a man has been touching women inappropriately for decades," Thompson wrote in a letter released in February 2019, "why would a woman want to work for him if the only reason he's not touching them inappropriately now is that it says in his contract that he must behave 'professionally?'"

Novel Entertainment is debuting its brand new long-form animated special Horrid Henry’s Gross Day Out on the Netflix streaming service in the U.K. on Thursday, September 17. Netflix has also taken worldwide VOD rights for the 65-minute action-adventure film which will roll out globally later this year.

This new Netflix Branded Original follows the successful launch of animated special Horrid Henry’s Wild Weekend on Netflix U.K. in June this year.


Horrid Henry’s Gross Day Out is written and produced by Novel’s Lucinda Whiteley and executive produced by Mike Watts, with Gary Andrews as animation director, Jim Andrews as editor and music composed by Lester Barnes. The special features the same voice cast as the award-winning TV series and also welcomes new characters created by Whiteley, in the form of the Gross Class Zero superheroes, alongside the villainous Evil Emperor and his twins Darius and Drusilla Drek.

Gross Class Zero, widely known to be Henry’s most favorite programme ever, features five “Grossers” leading double lives as students at Stand Up School and as top-secret agents. Under the watchful eye of their teacher, Miss Nesta Clutterbuck, they snot, bogey, fart, burp and zitgoo their way through their mission to save the Known Universe, with a unique combination of common sense, no-nonsense know how and sheer grossness.

“We are thrilled by Netflix’s continued support of Horrid Henry who has a legion of fans both in the U.K. and internationally,” said Watts, Co-Founder of Novel Ent. “We look forward to showcasing Henry in this longer-form content which enables us to expand his world and adventures even more. This is the first in a series of one-hour Horrid Henry specials.”


Whiteley explains, “As always, Henry’s got his Saturday all planned out: lying on the sofa watching back to back episodes of his favourite superhero TV show while babysitter Martin is lost in a world of his own. But even the best laid plans can go wrong, and soon Henry finds himself battling alongside the Grossers to stop the Dreks taking over the known (and unknown) universe. When Peter and Margaret get involved, the pressure is on as they race to banish the baddies before Mum gets back from the shops!”

In addition to the new animated specials, Novel has a raft of newly created content output, produced under the banner of Horrid Henry Unlocked and designed to offer a familiar and reassuring environment for fans, especially during the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis.

Alongside the recently launched Horrid Henry podcast, new material produced since the start of the pandemic includes Horrid Homework, a program of daily activities for children available free on Henry’s website, and more than 150 freshly created songs, videos and behind the scenes content and interviews, livestreamed on Henry’s YouTube channel. Content includes a Back To School bespoke playlist created with Oxfordshire Kindness Wave and the Oxfordshire Virtual School and a series of shorts which is helping to raise awareness of the NSPCC’s Childline service.

At the end of August Novel created the first ever Summer of Slime Virtual Festival; this featured a combination of live performances and exclusive offers and interactions on Henry’s social media channels, with an accompanying free activity book. Partners included StartRite, Learning Resources, Jaques Games, Deckchair Adventures and Grass and Air.

Novel’s four-time BAFTA-nominated Horrid Henry is one of the biggest children’s animated shows ever in the U.K. The fifth season is currently on air in the U.K., and Novel is in pre-production on a sixth series. The brand is at the heart of a successful licensing and merchandising programme and also includes film, stage, radio and online extensions.

Season 5 is currently airing on Netflix U.K. and on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons U.K. & Ireland. Kellogg's is one of the leading and well-loved food brands in South Africa, testament to this, Kellogg's was voted the coolest breakfast cereal at the 2020 Sunday Times Generation Next awards.

The PAW Patrol is on a roll and is taking over Nick Jr. Spain (España) with ¡Poder Canino!, special marathons featuring back-to-back episodes of Nickelodeon's beloved CG-animated preschool series, airing every Saturday from 12:35 starting Saturday 5th September 2020! PAW Patrol is locally titled La Patrulla Canina in Spain.

Cada fin de semana de septiembre los cachorros más valientes se apoderan de Nick Jr.

A partir del sábado 5 de septiembre a partir de las 12:35h, y cada sábado del mes, los más peques de la casa podrán disfrutar del especial ¡Poder Canino!, un maratón compuesto por algunos de los mejores episodios de La Patrulla Canina que incluirá además la emisión de un episodio con temática especial donde Ryder y su equipo de rescate demostrarán que, sea por mar, tierra o aire, ninguna misión se les resiste. ¡Que comience la diversión!

El último sábado de septiembre, Ryder y su equipo cerrarán este súper maratón con dos ‘dino rescates’. En el primero, intentarán ayudar al dinosaurio Maverick después de sufrir una grave herida en un ala. Por si fuera poco, también se enfrentarán a un rescate masivo de dinosaurios cuando un volcán entra en erupción, ¿serán capaces de ponerlos a salvo a todos antes de que la lava los alcance?

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Mashed Up With 'Hamilton' Tells Cabbage Man's Story

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Hamilton come together in a video telling the Cabbage Merchant's side of the story! Avatar: The Last Airbender has been beloved since the series originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005-2008. However, since being added to Netflix earlier this year, the animated show has exploded in popularity. An upcoming live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender is also on the way at the streamer. It will allow fans of the original series to once again see Aang and their other favorite characters realized in live-action after the disappointing film adaptation, The Last Airbender in 2010.

Unfortunately, the upcoming show has faced some setbacks. Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko were supposed to serve as executive producers and showrunners on the remake. However, they announced their exit from the show last month, suggesting creative differences. Though those who enjoyed the original series were excited about the upcoming live-action version, they're understandably a little more nervous now. Some even started a petition calling for appropriate casting in regards to age and race of the characters.

Luckily, the drama surrounding the upcoming series hasn't stopped fans from expressing their love for the original. Recently, TikTok user Lauren Hi’ilani uploaded a video as a part of her Hamilton-focused Avatar: The Last Airbender series. In it, she hilariously tells the story of the Cabbage Merchant, a popular background character often irked by Team Avatar. He's even got his own Funko Pop! figure! The video is a take on the Hamilton song "Washington on Your Side," with original, cabbage-related lyrics. Check it out in the video below!

Though this mashup may seem surprising, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans have proven to be a creative bunch. Many have crafted clever takes on the show's most iconic moments and characters, such as the funny "cactus juice" scene. Using Hamilton in this particular video makes sense, as it also saw a resurgence in popularity this summer thanks to the movie's release on Disney+. The Lin-Manuel Miranda musical has been parodied often over the years, with each version proving how universal the music and lyrics are for listeners.


Lauren Hi’ilani has previously released a Avatar: The Last Airbender x Hamiltonmash-up for Fire Lord Ozai, which also went viral.

Hopefully, videos like this one remind Avatar: The Last Airbender viewers of the show that started it all. This could make them excited about the upcoming live-action remake again. Though the barrier to success is undoubtedly higher without DiMartino and Konietzko, it's still possible. With any luck, the new live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender will honor the spirit of the original animated show the same way Hi’ilani does in her video.
