Mumbai, Oct 5 (IANS) - As part of the ongoing ‘Joy of Giving Week’ organised by the Western Railway (WR), around 150 students of the Ryan Group of Institutions (RGI) planted more than 350 Ashoka tree saplings near the Jogeshwari station, an official said on Saturday.

The children were joined by Nick Jr. favourite Dora the Explorer and child actor Abhishek Sharma in the event organised by the WR, Nickelodeon and RGI to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“The WR has been constantly engaged in environment-friendly initiatives. But this is the first time we have partnered with school kids for the project, ‘Har Ek Tree, Kare Pollution Free’ in Mumbai,” WR chief spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said.

Besides the tree planting event, during the week, there will be more activities for the children focusing on awareness and conservation of the environment, educating them on the consequences of carbon footprints and related aspects.

RGI Kandivali school principal Anjali Bowen said that the activity has allowed the school children to understand their social responsibilities, encourage them to take an interest in conserving and improving the environment.

Pioneering children-related empowerment themes, Nickelodeon has also organized campaigns like ‘Surakshabandhan’, International Day of Yoga and Road Safety Week.

Following a couple of weeks of speculation whether Nickelodeon USA would be moving Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premieres to Nicktoons, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, the Director, Current Series and Development at Nickelodeon Animation has confirmed that Nickelodeon will be premiering the remaining episodes of Rise of the TMNT Saturday nights at 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) from Saturday, October 12, 2019. Vasquez-Eberhardt also revealed that Nickelodeon will be debuting Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season two later this year.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a 2D-animated series which follows the band of brothers as they discover new powers and encounter a mystical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City. The series premiered on Monday 17th September 2018. A second season was commissioned before the show premiered.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reimagines the characters in a fresh new way, featuring jagged-shelled Raphael as a snapping turtle, wielding twin tonfas as his weapons; Leonardo as a red-eared slider, using an ōdachi sword; Donatello as a soft-shell turtle, sporting a tech-bo staff; and Michelangelo as a box turtle, arming himself with a kusari-fundo. Along for the adventure is the Turtles’ most trusted ally, April O’Neil, a street savvy native New Yorker and Splinter, father figure and sensei to the Turtles.

The series stars the voice talent of Omar Miller (Ballers) as Raphael, Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as Leonardo, Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as Donatello, Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re The Worst) as Michelangelo, Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) as April O’Neil and Eric Bauza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Splinter. WWE Superstar John Cena lends his voice as villain, Baron Draxum, an alchemist warrior mutant who seeks to turn all of humanity into mutants.

Nickelodeon is currently running a exclusive sweepstakes, which invites fans to sign up to Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles newsletter for the chance to win turtle-tastic prizes, such as role play toys, books, Ninjas United! books, When Mutants Attack! books, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninjas DVDs. To enter, visit https://www.nickjrsweepstakes.com.

Sonic Drive-In is also currently hosting a Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles promotion.

Considered one of the most popular kids’ television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned numerous blockbuster theatrical releases. The property is a global consumer products powerhouse, winning in every category that has hit shelves to date—with toys, apparel, video games, DVDs and more—and generating billions of dollars at retail. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been the number-one action figure for the past three years and the franchise is a previous recipient of the Toy Industry Association’s top honor for Property of the Year at the TOTY Awards.

The franchise is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Prepare your BEST scary story and tune in to the three-part event premiering October 11th on Nickelodeon!

Nickelodeon is preparing for the return of The Midnight Society with the all-new Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-part limited series event. Based on the ‘90s kids’ cult classic, and reimagined for a new generation, part one of Are You Afraid of the Dark? will debut on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), with parts two and three to follow Oct. 18, and Oct. 25, respectively.

Across the three hour-long episodes, Are You Afraid of the Dark? will follow members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who tell a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life. In the just-released trailer, viewers meet the new members of the Midnight Society, get a glimpse at the uncertainty that awaits and prepare for an adventure beyond their wildest nightmares.

The new members of the Midnight Society are: Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick); Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (IT: Chapter Two, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween); and Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date) with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers. The series is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace, Happily) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac), both of whom are also executive producers. Chris Foss is also an executive producer.

One of the Nickelodeon’s most iconic series from the ‘90s, the original Are You Afraid of the Dark? delivered riveting stories of horror to young audiences, all from a kid’s perspective. Are You Afraid of the Dark? is owned by DHX and was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, who are also executive producers on the project.

With each signature paw print, Blue identifies clues in her animated world that propel the story and inspire the audience to interact with the characters.

The original Blue’s Clues series launched in September 1996 to critical praise from educators, parents, and preschoolers and ran for six groundbreaking seasons. Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler, and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues drew acclaim and high ratings for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions, and anatomy.

Canadian YouTuber Elle Mills is set to feature in a upcoming brand-new Nickelodeon digital series!

Elle Mills poses for a photograph at the Rec Room in Toronto on Friday, October 4, 2019. THE CANADIAN PRESS/ Tijana Martin

The 21-year-old Ottawa social media star launched her YouTube channel, ElleOfTheMills in March 2012 and has become very popular among fans, with her channel boasting over 1.82 million subscribers and over 150,000,000 views. In April 2018, the star won "Breakout Creator" at the 10th annual Shorty Awards.

Mills isn't a stranger to Nickelodeon, having appeared in a special VidCon 2019 video in September 2019:

The news comes as Nickelodeon is expanding its digital footprint for social video platforms such as Facebook Watch and YouTube. Amongst the network's hit digital series are Bikini Bottom Mysteries, The JoJo & BowBow Show Show, Annie Vs. Hayley, Throw Back with Nickelodeon and Fact or Nicktion.

Upcoming digital series include:

Make My Nick Dreams Come True: was one of your 6th grade #goals to run the Double Dare obstacle course? To get slimed? Get ready to make your Nick dream come true. Hosted by Joey Graceffa.

Very Bad Crafts: Armed with some of the most unconventional and useless items imaginable for crafting, our contestants are presented with a challenge to create themed target objects out of the items they have been presented. Judged and hosted by a quirky DIY influencer, our contestants do their absolute best to create magic out of the materials they are given. Part challenge show, part masterclass in the absurd, Very Bad Crafts is like Nailed It but with crafts, where contestants will be challenged to channel their inner Michelangelo. Premiere date to be announced.

The majority of Nickelodeon's digital content pipeline is produced by Viacom Digital Studios (VDS) for the network.

From The Canadian Press via 660 News:

Role model, celebrity, advocate — Ottawa YouTuber Elle Mills is still figuring herself out

TORONTO — YouTuber Elle Mills is finally learning to set limits.

Little more than year ago, the 21-year-old Ottawa social media star was pouring her everything onto the video platform. She pranked her dad’s ex-wife, shared her first kiss with millions of viewers, and came out as bisexual only days after she’d figured it out herself.

And then a crippling burnout knocked Mills down, right in front of her own cameras, forcing her to reevaluate her priorities.

“I feel like sometimes I don’t leave enough for myself — I’m almost too open,” Mills said Friday after speaking at Buffer Festival, a Toronto digital video conference and film showcase.

“There’s boundaries, that’s what I’ve learned recently. You don’t need to share everything.”

Except Mills wants to share many things. It’s what helped her amass nearly 2 million YouTube subscribers who eagerly await her next comedy production. The slickly produced videos typically involve Mills bringing to life some outlandish idea she’s dreamed up on paper.

Over the summer, she recreated high school prom so her classmates and teachers could watch as she crowned herself prom queen. Two years ago, she legally married her sister’s boyfriend as a joke — a prank she now admits is her only regret.

As one YouTube fan pointed out, Mills makes videos with “clickbait” titles that actually deliver the goods. In return, she gets the views, which often number in the millions.

Her most popular video, called “Coming Out (Elle Mills Style),” was made on an impulse in November 2017 as she grappled with her own identity. It was presented in the spirit of a teen rom-com, complete with tear-jerking moments of authenticity as Mills confided her biggest fears of telling her family and friends she was bisexual.

The video was an instant viral success, pulling in more than 5 million views to date and reshaping Mills’ life and YouTube identity. She became a global celebrity in the YouTube community and, in some young viewers’ eyes, even an LGBTQ figurehead. But it also handed Mills responsibilities she didn’t anticipate.

Within months, Mills was doing a cover shoot for Diva, a European magazine for lesbian and bisexual women.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my god, am I now a representative for bisexuals? What’s happening?’ Mills said. “No one is ever qualified, but I feel like some people are really unqualified, you know what I mean? I feel like I definitely need to have more experience — I’ve never dated anybody.”

An accidental spokesperson, Mills realizes her young fans now expect her to speak out about certain causes. She’s uncomfortable with some of those pressures, and says she prefers to speak only about what she knows, whether it’s on the topics of sexual orientation or mental health.

Growing up, Mills dreamed of the limelight, taking a cue from her sister’s own aspirations of being a pop star. They’d shoot music videos together, which led Mills to adopt her own solo music ambitions. Knowing she couldn’t carry a tune, she picked up a guitar and took roles in school plays.

Eventually her performative thirst led to YouTube, where she taught herself how to edit videos. After high school graduation, she fully committed herself to the goal of becoming an online celebrity. The work paid off — in a year she generated more than a million subscribers.

But with the popularity came an increasing expectation Mills thrust upon herself. She was making a new video each week, trying to raise the stakes with each upload. Early last year she began crumbling under the pressure as more fan conventions booked her and she lauched a tour of public appearances.

A few months later, she posted “Burnt Out at 19,” a video that directly addressed pressures she was feeling off camera. In its most heartbreaking moment, audio of Mills having a panic attack plays over a shot of her bedroom — a vacant laptop sitting on the sheets. The footage became a centrepiece in the larger social conversation about how feeding YouTube’s bottomless content pit was driving its creators into depression.

After her breakdown, Mills made some changes. She scaled back her weekly YouTube output to making videos only when she felt inspired. Over the past year she’s gone to therapy and leaned on her closest friends for emotional support.

Most importantly, she reminds herself that YouTube isn’t life or death, though she admits staying in that mindset isn’t always easy.

“If a video does badly, I literally feel like my YouTube career is over and I peaked,” she said. “And then it goes down the hill, and I’m like I can’t post again, I freak out and start hyperventilating. Then I realize the fact this is affecting me so badly — a YouTube video — that’s so not good.”

Mills doesn’t plan to sign off the platform, but she is focused on other projects. YouTube exposed her to a world of new options, including “Kids Plan!” a series for Facebook where she helps kids plan romantic dates for their parents, and an upcoming digital series for Nickelodeon.

Eventually she’d love to direct a movie in the vein of her favourite filmmaker John Hughes.

“I really just want to bring back that feeling of a good teen movie — I feel like we’re lacking that right now,” she said.

Perhaps next year, she’ll begin exploring the possibility of moving out of her parents’ house too — buying a home in Ottawa to mark her growing independence.

“I’m just so bad with my money — I spend it on videos,” she said.

“I feel like I’m the type of person that needs to learn from their mistakes. I need to experience it, and then be like: ‘This is why I can do that.'”

Nickelodeon Volunteers Build Backyard Oasis for Los Angeles Residence

On Friday, September 13, Nickelodeon held its first ever Summer Day of Service to benefit LA Family Housing’s Pacoima Place residence. Pacoima Place houses 18 families and was most recently a pay by the hour motel before the folks at LA Family Housing put a master lease on the property.

In August, Nickelodeon's Summer Nick Animation Studio Interns (NICKterns) partnered with local org Muralism.org to paint a Nickelodeon themed around the concept of unity and family. A month later for the Summer Day of Service, about 35 volunteers braved 100 degree temperatures to transform the courtyard into a relaxation place for parents and a play space for kids. The Nickelodeon volunteers were busy turning soil, building planter beds, planting drought-tolerant plants, shoveling and wheelbarrowing gravel and mulch into the courtyard, placing weed cloth, and building a pergola, benches, and a play set. The families living at Pacoima Place now have a safe place for their children to play, and for the families to spend time together.

From Spectrum News 1:

Nickelodeon Helps Create Pacoima Place Playground For Homeless Kids

PACOIMA, Calif. – Nancy Gomez is desperately trying to get her son out of a tree. One of the many challenges for her and the 18 other families who currently reside here at Pacoima Place, is keeping their children entertained.

But the only area where the kids can play here is in the parking lot.

Gomez has been homeless with her three children on and off for almost five years.

“It's been really hard. It's really hard. But LA Family Housing has helped me a lot. My kids have a roof over their head and we're not spending the night in a car, or on the streets or in a tent. And I really appreciate that,” said Gomez.

LA Family Housing teamed up with Nickelodeon’s Community Outreach Program, “Nick Helps,” and an organization called Muralism. They’re transforming the dirt-filled front yard of Pacoima Place into a fun and safe place for these kids to play.

“Homelessness is really hard, especially for children," said Andrea Johnson of LA Family Housing. "So when we have partners like Nickelodeon who understand that building a playground can really bring joy to a child's life, that means so much to us. So we're incredibly grateful for this partnership. And we're so grateful to have a place where children can play -- that's not in a parking lot.”

Gomez and other parents are happy their kids have a place where they can laugh and just be kids.

“My kids are my strength. They're the reason why I keep on doing what I'm trying to do,” said Gomez.

The news follows the successful opening of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Karisma and Viacom International Media Networks' (VIMN) first Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts resort, which opened to critical acclaim this summer, and boasts a life-sized replica of SpongeBob's Pineapple home which guests can vacation in.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Cartagena will be Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts' first destination in Central and South America, and will be home to the new family brand's first hotel outside of the Caribbean and Mexico. Feliz told Travel Agent Central that the property is expected to open roughly three years from now (2019/2020).

In 2015, Feliz and Lubo Krstajic, the company’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, told Travel Agent the plan was to expand Nickelodeon Hotels to Central and South America with destinations such as Brazil; Cartagena, Colombia; and Panama being heavily discussed. With Cartagena now confirmed, it is quite possible that either Brazil or Panama could be Nickelodeon's second destination in Latin America.

From EL UNIVERSAL:
