Nickelodeon Renews "Paw Patrol" For Season Three; "Bubble Guppies" For Season Four

Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids and families, has commissioned a third season of the networks popular CG-animated preschool series "Paw Patrol"! The Pup-tastic news was announced by Nickelodeon voice actor Alex Thorne, who provides the voice of Zuma on the US version of "Paw Patrol", in a Tweet on his official Twitter profile page, ‏@AlexThorne2001. To celebrate, Alex shared a photo of himself recording dialogue for "Paw Patrol" season three in March 2015 on his Twitter feed.


Additionally, Nickelodeon also recently ordered a fourth season of "Bubble Guppies"! The exciting news was announced by Nickelodeon voice actor Grace Kaufman, who provides the voice of Deema in Nick's popular CG-animated preschool series, in a Tweet on her official Twitter profile page, ‏@ImGraceKaufman. The voice cast recorded their lines for season four in September 2014.

"Paw Patrol" stars a pack of seven heroic rescue pups – Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Rubble, Zuma, Skye and Everest - who are led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder. Together they work hard to show the people of Adventure Bay that "no job is too big, no pup is too small!"

"Bubble Guppies" set in a vibrant underwater environment follows a group of diverse preschoolers with colorful fish tails who go on adventures discovering their world. "Bubble Guppies" is set to a soundtrack of catchy, educational pop songs and features a curriculum that infuses the core elements of kindergarten readiness including: math, literacy, the arts, science and socio-emotional development.

New York, NY – April 2, 2015 – It's the ultimate celebration of TV! TV Land announced today that the "TV Land Awards" will be hosted by Terry Crews ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine,""World's Funniest Fails"), one of the most versatile performers of TV and film. This year's awards will honor the most creative, popular and loved stars and series, including "Parenthood,""The Wonder Years,""Ally McBeal,"Betty White, who will receive The Legend Award, and Donny and Marie Osmond, who will be accepting the Pop Culture Award. The late groundbreaking comedian Joan Rivers will also be honored with a special tribute. Presenters and more honorees will be announced in the coming week. The ceremony will tape on Saturday, April 11th at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills and air Saturday, April 18th at 9pm ET/PT on TV Land with simulcasts on Nickelodeon and NickMom. "Parenthood" is receiving the Fan Favorite Award, a salute to a series that is considered an All-American classic and much-loved by its fans. The drama series – based on the movie of the same name – just wrapped its sixth and final season on NBC, and tells the story of the Braverman family as they face life's triumphs and struggles. Confirmed to be at the "TV Land Awards" include series stars Lauren Graham, Craig T. Nelson, Peter Krause, Bonnie Bedelia, Erika Christensen, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Savannah Paige Rae, Max Burkholder, Tyree Brown, Sarah Ramos, Xolo Maridueña and executive producer Jason Katims.

"The Wonder Years" will receive this year's Impact Award, which honors shows that have made a significant impression on American entertainment and culture. The Emmy®-winning ABC series revolved around a young boy, Kevin Arnold, who narrated the story of his family and friends growing up in the late 1960s and early 1970s – one of the most revolutionary social time periods in American history – from his now-adult perspective. Series stars Fred Savage, Danica McKellar, Josh Saviano, Olivia d'Abo, Jason Hervey and Alley Mills will be in attendance.

"Ally McBeal" will be honored with the Groundbreaking Award, given to a series that sparked conversation about cultural issues. The comedy-drama, which ran on FOX from 1997 to 2002, revolved around Ally, a successful lawyer with a sloppy personal life that only gets crazier when she starts working with her childhood sweetheart Billy…and his wife. The series was known for braving the subjects of sexual politics in the workplace and gender norms with its eccentric yet loveable characters, combining heartfelt drama and silliness. Executive producer David E. Kelley, along with stars Calista Flockhart, Peter MacNicol, Lisa Nicole Carson, Gil Bellows and Courtney Thorne-Smith will be accepting the award with more cast members expected to join.

Receiving The Legend Award this year is Betty White. With a show business career that spans over 70 years, Betty White is widely regarded as a national treasure and one of America's sweethearts. After her big break in TV with the 1949 variety show "Hollywood on Television," she went on to appear in over 100 television shows and films, including those that gave her her most beloved roles – "The Mary Tyler Moore Show,""The Golden Girls," and most recently, TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland." White won seven Emmy® Awards in her career, the most recent in 2010 for her hilarious turn on "Saturday Night Live." She also won two consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards® for her portrayal of Elka on "Hot in Cleveland," and was honored with the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Triple threat brother and sister duo Donny and Marie Osmond will be on hand to receive the Pop Culture Award, honoring their staying power in the cultural zeitgeist. Their variety series aired on ABC in the late 1970s and featured music and comedy sketches which are still referenced in today's conversations nearly 40 years after the show has ended.

The "TV Land Awards" ceremony will also include a tribute to the late trailblazing comedian Joan Rivers.

Michael Levitt ("The Daytime Emmy Awards,""Billboard Music Awards") and Casey Patterson ("Lip Sync Battle,""Guys Choice Awards") are executive producers, and Ryan Polito ("Guys Choice Awards 2014,""The Price is Right") is director. Greg Sills ("The Teen Choice Awards,""Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards") serves as supervising producer and Gary Tellalian ("American Comedy Awards") is producer.

(Toronto, Canada) – Corus Entertainment's Nelvana, a leading international producer and distributor of content for kids and families, announced today that it has signed a publishing deal with Scholastic, granting them worldwide English-language rights to produce a range of preschool books in a number of formats based on the brand new, spell-binding series, Little Charmers.

As the master storybook licensee, Scholastic plans to launch the series in the U.S. and Canada in Spring 2016 with two storybooks entitled "Meet the Charmers" and "Double Trouble." Additional formats including 8x8s, Readers, Paper-over-Board, Activity Books, and eBooks will follow throughout the rest of 2016 at retail as well as through Scholastic Book Clubs and Book Fairs. Scholastic UK and Scholastic Australia/New Zealand will roll out the series in Fall 2016 in their territories.

Nickelodeon Russia and CIS To Premiere "Bella and the Bulldogs" On Saturday 11th April 2015

Nickelodeon Russia and CIS (Nickelodeon Россия and СНГ) has announced the exciting Nickelodeon International news in a series of posts on their official Facebook profile page, Facebook.com/NickelodeonRussia, that Nick Russia and CIS will start to premiere the show Nickelodeon's brand-new original comedy series "Bella and the Bulldogs" (locally titled "Белла и Бульдоги"), in which a head cheerleader's life takes an unexpected twist when her rifle-like throwing arm takes her from the sidelines to becoming her middle school's starting quarterback, on Saturday 11th April 2015 at 5:55pm (МСК)! Shabooya!


In Nick's new comedy ripped right out of the headlines of girls playing traditionally "boy" sports, Bella Dawson, a confident, caring and talented teenager, suddenly finds herself fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming the star quarterback of her middle school football team but also having to navigate the world of her teammates Troy, Sawyer and Newt, without losing her two best friends, Pepper and Sophie from the cheer squad.


Executive produced by Jeff Bushell, the show was created by Nickelodeon Writing Program alumni Gabriel Garza and Jonathan Butler, who also serve as co-executive producers. Garza began his writing career by being selected for the program in 2009, where he met his future writing partner and fellow program alum Jonathan Butler. Prior to selling their pitch to Nick and beginning development on "Bella and the Bulldogs", both Butler and Garza were staff writers on "The Haunted Hathaways".

Nickelodeon Bets on K-pop to Revive Ratings

The kids' network is creating a Korean music-inspired series

Louriza Tronco, Megan Lee, and Erika Tham bound onstage at a warmup party before the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards wearing shiny black and gold outfits and splashes of pink or red in their hair. They strut and wave and belt out two songs, Light It Up and Party Tonight, from their upcoming show Make It Pop. "This is a dream come true for us," Tronco says from the stage.

If the Viacom kids' channel has its way, the three will be Nickelodeon's newest stars—in what could be one of its most ethnically diverse hits. Make It Pop, which premieres on April 6, is the first mainstream U.S. series inspired by K-pop, the fast-growing South Korean pop music genre. The actresses, chosen in a global casting call, are of Chinese-Dutch, Filipino, and Korean descent.

The show is part of the industry's attempt to lift ratings by making programs that mirror viewer diversity. "Our thinking is to reflect the world kids are living in," says Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president for content development. Networks, though, risk offending the very people they want to please. ABC saw that this season with Fresh Off the Boat, a comedy about Taiwanese immigrants. Eddie Huang, the chef on whose memoir it's based, said he felt they watered down his story.

Some K-pop fans have gone online to demand Make It Pop be canceled before it's even aired—they feel the show trivializes the art form. "People are just very protective of their artists and the genre in general," says Annie Lim, a senior editor at Allkpop.com, a U.S. K-pop site with 7 million monthly visitors.

K-pop began in the 1990s with a handful of Seoul-based record companies, including S.M. Entertainment and YG Entertainment, that groom and manage acts that typically feature attractive young men and women, often in groups, wearing brightly colored clothing. Their music, infectious dance pop, is promoted in online videos with carefully choreographed routines that fans often re-create at home. Songs in Chinese, English, and Japanese, as well as Korean, appeal to a global audience.

The genre went mainstream, thanks to the Korean rapper Psy, whose 2012 hit Gangnam Style was the first YouTube video to crack a billion views. Last year two K-pop bands, EXO and 2NE1, were among the 10 best-selling world-music acts, according to Billboard. K-pop YouTube views topped 7.6 billion last year, up from 700 million in 2010.

Nickelodeon's ratings have fallen as kids move to social media and online videos. Its ad revenue fell 7 percent, to $968 million last year, according to data from SNL Kagan. Viacom, whose stock has fallen 19 percent in the past year, has cut staff to boost profits.

The Glee-like Make It Pop follows three prep school roommates who form a musical group as they try out for a school production of The Wizard of Oz. They share wardrobe advice, practice dance moves, and deal with parental concerns that they go to a good college.

In November an audition script for the show popped up online. Sample dialogue: "My father will not accept me in a K-pop band. He'd take me back to Korea before he thought there was even a chance I was wasting my potential here." K-pop purists lit into the network on social media, accusing it of promoting stereotypes, not reflecting K-pop artists' hard work, and not being funny. Ananya Nair, a fan in Coventry, England, urged Nickelodeon to cancel the show in a Change.org petition that gathered more than 9,100 signatures. "There are already enough people who are ignorant about Korean culture, we don't need more," she wrote.

Nickelodeon leapt into damage control mode, flying K-pop bloggers and writers from teen publications such as Tiger Beat and J-14 to the Toronto set to meet the stars, who assured them that Make It Pop wants to pay homage to the genre, not exploit it. "K-pop has many elements. We come from different worlds, but with the love of music we come together," says Lee, 19, who grew up in Los Angeles. She trained as a singer, actor, and dancer for three years in South Korea, where she released a single, 8dayz, last year.

Rather than one episode per week, Nickelodeon will air a new Make It Pop every day for 20 days. Fans can watch the daily broadcast on TV or see episodes on the network's app or website.

Darcy Bowe, a media buyer at Starcom USA in Chicago, says advertisers will support Make It Pop, even with the controversy. "School, music, fashion, friendships," she says. "This really is the sweet spot of where younger girls' interests are."

The bottom line: Nickelodeon's advertising revenue fell 7 percent last year. It's hoping to get a boost from a show featuring K-pop.

Sounds pretty cool, huh? Well, it's about to get even cooler, 'cause we actually WENT TO THE SET of MIP and got to witness everything first hand! Not only did we get a behind-the-scenes look at the performances and amazing sets, but we also chatted with the show's stars Megan Lee, Erika Tam, Louriza Tronco and Dale Whibley! Louriza on finding out she booked the role:"Things don't hit me until I'm actually doing them. First of all, I didn't think I booked it. There were so many girls and it was such a long audition process — they did a worldwide search for this. So, it was such a long process. So I was like, it was fun, [but] maybe, maybe not. When I got the call I was literally screaming and jumping up and down. I had just finished another audition and I found out I booked it. I was like, okay, guess there's really no point in doing the other audition because I had to move down here. But, yeah it's been amazing."

Erika on embarrassing on-set moments:"I think the worst for me was when we were doing a scene where the camera were in out dorm room. So I was behind the door preparing to walk into the room. And I was trying to hype myself up for the scene. So, I ran for the door handle and missed and my face just went right into the door. No one saw. It would have been the best blooper ever but no one saw. It wasn't painful. I was laughing so hard and everyone was on the opposite side of the wall wondering what was going on."

And Megan's?"We were rehearsing for a scene and our producer was like, 'Megan, give us more!' And I was unaware that there was a huge desk in front of me and I bent down and banged my tooth on the desk. I was really lucky, though. There were two pens sticking out and I missed those and got the edge of [the desk]. You could see two tiny teeth marks! But I didn't chip my teeth at all. I was in shock on the floor laughing off the pain, and I felt something in my mouth. At first I thought it was my tooth, but then I realized it was a piece of wood! And I was like, 'oh my god!' Everyone was silent. I'm completely okay, though, so no worries."


Louriza on the Nick star's career she wants to emulate:"Ariana Grande is doing great with the music aspect, but I think I like being more on the acting side. I do love being on stage and all that stuff, but I do want to gear more towards the acting and features. I think right after Amanda Bynes'All That series, she did really well with She's the Man and What a Girl Wants, and I think those types of features I would really like to get into."

Erika on which past Nickelodeon show she used as reference:"Megan and I watched Zoey 101 together to see the whole filming style...because it's drama and a continuous story line. So we watched a few episodes together [to get a sense of the vibes]."

Dale on who he thinks should open for the cast if they go on tour:"I think Justin Timberlake would be a cool one. Nick Jonas would be cool. There are some cool up and coming bands — 5 Seconds of Summer is a really happening band right now. I think it would be cool if we went on tour with them."

NickToons USA Acquires Rights To "Little Battlers eXperience" Season Two; To Debut During Fall 2015

The Anime News Network (ANN) is reporting the exciting Nickelodeon news that Dentsu Entertainment USA, Inc. today announced that Nickelodeon USA has picked up the broadcast rights to the second season of the popular anime "Little Battlers eXperience"! Season two of "LBX", titled "Danbōru Senki W" in Japan, will premiere on Nick USA's animation and action channel, Nicktoons USA, during Fall 2015.


The first season of "Little Battlers eXperience" is currently airing on Nicktoons and will repeat before the second premieres.

The "LBX" franchise follows the adventures of miniature customizable robots and the kids who interact with them. Van Yamano wanted an LBX robot more than anything else in the world, but his mother always refused. And then one day fate brought him his very own LBX named Achilles. A naturally gifted LBX player, Van soon finds himself battling to free his missing father from the clutches of an evil organization. But what Van doesn't know is that his LBX Achilles holds the key to the fate of the entire world. He will soon find himself caught in the midst of a vast conspiracy for global domination with the highest ranks of power. It's up to Van to defend the world from tyranny depending solely on his own unique abilities and his LBX robots.

In the second season, Van makes a new friend named Hiro and the two travel the world to "stop a far more sinister global threat."

The anime from the studio OLM ("Pokémon", "Deltora Quest") adapts a "near-future, plastic-model-building role-playing game" from Level 5 ("Dragon Quest VIII", "Professor Layton", "Inazuma Eleven", "Mobile Suit Gundam AGE"). The player customizes and controls miniature robots called LBX (Little Battler eXperience) as they battle it out in dioramas built from reinforced cardboard. The anime version premiered on TV Tokyo in 2011 and aired for 44 episodes. The sequel, "Danbōru Senki W" ran for 58-episodes in 2012, and the latest series "Danbōru Senki Wars" premiered in 2013 and ran for 37 episodes.

"Make It Pop" is a brand-new comedic, music-infused daily strip about three unique girls who come together to start their own K pop- inspired band. Randomly selected to room together at boarding school, three freshman girls – bookish Corki (Erika Tham), fashion forward Jodi (Louriza Tronco), and social media maven Sun Hi (Megan Lee) – meet and bond over music. With the help of fellow boarding school classmate and DJ hopeful, Caleb (Dale Whibley), the girls grow from roommates to bandmates as their band, "XO-IQ", becomes a school-wide sensation and they compete for a place in the upcoming school musical.

The series, which will feature original songs and performances in every episode, is co-created by Thomas W. Lynch and Nick Cannon and produced by DHX Media. "Make It Pop" is executive produced by Lynch and Cannon, together with Steven DeNure and Anne Loi for DHX Media. Following the successful launch of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection, Diamond Select Toys announced today the expansion of its Nickelodeon partnership with the release of a brand-new SpongeBob SquarePants Minimates line. The collection will include SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Grandpa Redbeard, Perch Perkins and Plankton designed as 2-inch-tall mini-figures with multiple points of articulation and interchangeable parts and accessories.

The long-running animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, has been a hit for kids and adults since its debut, and is still going strong with new episodes in the works and a hit movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, in theaters now.

NEW YORK – April 7, 2015 – More than 50 years after severing ties, America and Cuba recently agreed to work to improve their relationship. Nick News with Linda Ellerbee journeys to Cuba to explore what this means for the children of tomorrow and shed some light on what it's like to be a kid in Cuba today in the brand-new special, "So Close and Yet So Far Away: The Kids of Cuba," premiering Monday, April 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

"Cuba is an underdeveloped country. But it's a free country," says Darian, 15.

"For me, the most beautiful part of Cuba is the people," adds Alejandra, 15.

In 1959 Cuban rebels led by Fidel Castro overthrew Cuba's American-supported dictator. Following this, Cuba aligned itself with the communist Soviet Union. As a result, the capitalist United States cut off diplomatic relations with the island and passed a law making it illegal to do business with Cuba and in most cases, to go there. "So Close and Yet So Far Away: The Kids of Cuba" explores what happens if this situation changes.

"I would like American kids to come to Cuba, so that way I can meet them and learn about their lives," says Dunia, 14.

Alejandra, 15, adds, "They can see our country, the way we live, and they can see that a lot of the things that they are told about our country aren't true."

"I like that I can have medicine…and medical attention, without having to pay for any costs," says Ruben, 15. "But I would like to change, above all, the lack of communication due to not having Internet.

I would like for us to be able to travel to many more places."

Lessandra, 12, says, "But I would like to have peace between the two countries."

Ellerbee adds, "The main thing to remember is what happens between our countries will not happen overnight."

Peabody Awards Creates Advisory Board


The University of Georgia's George Foster Peabody Awards has created its first ever Board of Advisors, comprised of prominent entertainment and media industry leaders who will provide guidance and support to the Peabody program's future initiatives, it was announced today by Dr. Jeffrey P. Jones, Peabody Director. The Board of Advisors will be distinct and separate from the Peabodys' traditional Board of Jurors that each year evaluates entries and bestows the prestigious Awards for excellence in electronic media.

The 24 Board of Advisor members will provide counsel to Dr. Jones and his staff. In conjunction with the formation of the Board, five committees have been established: Branding and Mission; the Peabody Archives and Endowments; Original Content and Programming; Internationalization; and Events (including the Awards Show and 75th Anniversary Celebration). Members of the Board will sit on the various committees, and biographies of the individual members are available upon request.

"When I was selected as Director of the Peabody Awards, I recognized a need to align our organization more closely with the extraordinarily experienced and talented leadership of the entertainment and media worlds," Dr. Jones said. "They have resources and knowledge that will help us realize the exciting plans we have for Peabody. Throughout the year a Nickelodeon Land character will take centre stage at the attraction which will encourage younger guests to take part in fun activities with their favourite characters. There will be chance to rub shoulders with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, explore with Dora the Explorer and Diego and experience a Summer of Slime with all the Nickelodeon characters at the UK's only Nickelodeon Land!


Do the Sponge with SpongeBob - Saturday 28th March to Sunday 19th April 2015:

Get your dancing shoes on for a dance-off with a difference at Nickelodeon Land, Blackpool Pleasure Beach!

Saying goodbye to Bikini Bottom, Nickelodeon megastar SpongeBob SquarePants will be jetting off and joining his pals for a character themed month down at the six-acre attraction. Along with Patrick Star and his friends he will Step Into Adventure for the activities which will run throughout the season on Nickelodeon Land.


From March 28th you can join SpongeBob SquarePants and all his pals to Do The Sponge, a wacky dance competition where the winner will be crowned the Goofiest Goober and win some exclusive prizes. Prizes include Easter eggs, buildable SpongeBob Mega Bloks, SpongeBob Movie goodie bags and cinema tickets to go and see the new film, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water", as well as movie goodie bags.

For an egg-stra treat, during the Easter holidays there will be a number of competitions with SpongeBob and his pals. There's also a chance to take part in SpongeBob's Pantastic Challenge where you can throw sponges at Team Nick in an attempt to fill their pantastic pants.

The NAMIC Vision Awards honors television networks and other creators of original content for their achievements in producing multiethnic and multicultural programming.

NEW YORK, April 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications(NAMIC) has announced the 2015 NAMIC Vision Awards nominees. Now in its 21st year, the awards recognize original television and digital programming content that depicts the lives, spirit and contributions of people of color and best reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of the viewing audience.

A total of 27 networks and producers/distributors representing a wide variety of programming generated 75 nominations for awards presented in 16 categories: Animation; Children's; Comedy; Documentary; Drama; Foreign Language; Lifestyle; News/Informational; Original Movie or Special; Reality; Reality – Social Issues; Sports; Variety/Talk Show; Best Performance – Comedy; Best Performance – Drama; and Digital Media (Short Form). Original programs airing November 1, 2013 through November 30, 2014 were eligible for consideration.

"As the landscape of the viewing audience becomes more ethnically and culturally diverse through shifting demographics and the expansion of content distribution, the creation and green lighting of diverse original content is an imperative," said Eglin E. Among the top nominated networks are ESPN, E:60 and ESPN Deportes with a collective 11 nominations. Nickelodeon garnered 10 nominations with HBO receiving nine. Other networks receiving multiple nominations include OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network and OWN Digital with a total five noms; Universal Television also received five with CNN, Discovery Latin America/USH and TV One each earning four; BET Networks, Lifetime and NBC Universo garnered three nominations respectively with Showtime Networks Inc. receiving two.

HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," was this year's top nominated original series garnering a total of three nominations in the Best Performance – Drama category for actors Margot Bingham, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jeffrey Wright. The original programs receiving a total of two nominations include HBO's "Looking" featuring comedians Frankie J. Alvarez and Raul Castillo recognized for Best Performance – Comedy; Nickelodeon's "Instant Mom" was nominated in the Comedy category with a second nomination going to Instant Mom's Tia Mowry-Hardrict for Best Performance – Comedy; Nickelodeon's "Kids' Choice Sports Awards" received nominations in the Children's and Variety/Talk Show categories; Universal Television's original series, "State of Affairs" garnered a nomination in the Drama category with a nod also going to Alfre Woodard for Best Performance – Drama. Judging focused on overall imagery (creative merit, originality, and presentation quality), sensitivity (the consideration given to cultural nuances), writing (the depiction of issues relevant to people of color) and the quality of acting in the performance categories.
