'PAW Patrol' Stars Skye And Rubble To Help Turn On Cardiff's Christmas Lights On Thursday 9th November 2017

Stars from Nick Jr. UK's PAW Patrol will be visiting and meeting fans in Cardiff this November as they help celebrate the switching on of the city's Christmas lights!


Christmas will officially start in Cardiff on Thursday, November 9 when the city centre will transform into a winter festive wonderland for the Welsh capital's big Step Into Christmas event!

Like recent years, rather than just switching on the lights, the capital will undergo a spectacular transformation with a cornucopia of Christmas characters, music and entertainment to guarantee THREE hours of unadulterated yuletide joy.


And that includes visits from PAW Patrol characters Skye and Rubble from Nickelodeon's hit preschool series, PAW Patrol, as well as beautiful Cairngorm reindeer who will be with Santa in their pen at the bottom of St Mary Street.

As well as that, Admiral's Winter Wonderland will open on the City Hall lawn, the shops will kick-off their late-night shopping alongside the Cardiff Christmas Market and there will be 180 minutes of free festive family fun.

What time will the lights be switched on?

There is no official ‘switch on’ for the city’s lights this year but they will all be shining in time for the big Step Into Christmas event on Thursday (November 9).

They will gradually start to twinkle as the night darkens.

Cardiff Council wants to guarantee far more than just a three-second light switch on, instead providing three hours of entertainment in a free street festival instead.

What time does it start?

The celebrations kick off at 4.30pm and go on until 7.30pm.

How much is it?

It's a FREE event (although some activities may incur a charge).

Where can I see the PAW Patrol characters?

Skye & Rubble from PAW Patrol will appear at intervals outside The Old Library, opposite St David’s Hall.

Is there any other entertainment?

Yes! Watch out for Wonderbrass, Cardiff’s biggest, boldest, brassiest band, celebrate 25 years of making music in South Wales and beyond as well as the Winter Wonderland Birds - huge, illuminated, beautiful Christmas Birds light up the streets with their feathery wonderment.

There will also be panto dames, Spark - a mesmerising, unmissable street show combining fantastic drumming and LED lights and The Three Kings - stilted giants from the East.

There will also be The Glitter Miners, The Glitter Belles and Giant Baubles.

When can I go ice-skating at Winter Wonderland?

The Admiral ice-rink will open on the same night and this year the roof is back, allowing skaters to enjoy the skating experience, come rain of shine.

After one of the wettest winters on record last year, organiser Sayers Amusements are reducing the risk of people missing out on skating sessions by looking to keep skaters super dry with a clear span roof and night sky lights.

What else is there?

The only way to see Cardiff this Christmas is from the top of the Big Wheel!

From the top of the wheel passengers will be able to spot sights like Cardiff Castle, Bute Park and the soon to be Principality Stadium.

No advanced booking necessary, simply purchase your tickets from the box office prior to take off.

A host of traditional children’s rides surround the ice rink too.

Can I get some shopping done?

The Christmas Market will officially open and stay open until December 23 when over 200 talented artists, crafts people and food and alcohol producers from across Wales offer an array of gifts such as Welsh slate, crafted candles, tasty cheeses, fruit wines and liqueurs, flavoured vodkas and gins, silver and enamel jewellery, pottery and original artwork.

You will be able to find something for everyone on your Christmas gifts list whilst enjoying a cup of hot mulled wine as you browse!

PAW Patrol Live!“Race to the Rescue”, based on hit preschool series PAW Patrol produced by Spin Master Entertainment, which airs on TVOKids in Canada and on Nickelodeon worldwide, is coming to the North Bay Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ontario on Tuesday 28th November 2017 with its hit tour, which brings everybody’s favorite pups to the stage for an action-packed, high-energy, musical adventure!


In PAW Patrol Live!“Race to the Rescue”, when Mayor Goodway goes missing during the day of The Great Adventure Bay Race, the pups come to the rescue. Join Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Rubble, Zuma, Skye and Everest when they visit North Bay!

Featuring a cast of everybody’s favorite PAW Patrol characters and presented by VStar Entertainment Group and Nickelodeon, PAW Patrol Live! shows that “no job is too big, no pup is too small,” and shares lessons for all ages about citizenship, social skills and problem-solving as the characters each use their unique skills and teamwork. The show includes two acts and an intermission, and engages audiences with Bunraku puppetry, an innovative costuming approach that brings the PAW Patrol characters to life on stage with their vehicles and packs.


“Using Bunraku, puppetry elements are built into costumes worn by real actors to create a wonderful combination of life-size pups and to make a stronger connection with the audience. The PAW Patrol cast sings and dances, which brings a fun, realistic parallel between the animated series and the live show,” says Jim Waters, producer, VStar Entertainment Group.

The performance features up-tempo music and a brand new cleverly written script that is a good introduction to live theater for kids. Classic theatrical scenery along with a high-tech video wall visually transports families to an authentic PAW Patrol environment, including locations from the TV series, like Adventure Bay, The Lookout, Seal Island, Farmer Yumi’s farm and Jake’s Mountain. Special interactive video allows the audience to participate via interviews, solve clues with the Pups, follow Mayor Goodway and much more. During the show, guests have the opportunity to participate in the adventure and become a part of the PAW Patrol Cheer Team.


The show runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes, including two acts and an intermission.

The Cast Of 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch' Reunite At L.A. Comic Con 2017

The cast of Sabrina the Teenage Witch reunited at L.A. Comic Con 2017 on Saturday and had plenty to say about the state of their characters in 2017!

Melissa Joan Hart, Nick Bakay, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick, Nate Richert, Alimi Ballard, David Lascher, Soleil Moon Frye, and Elisa Donovan all appeared on a panel moderated by EW’s Marc Snetiker, and the conversation turned to The CW’s upcoming Sabrina-centric Riverdale spinoff.

“We’re not involved… The rights reverted back to [Archie Comics], and they’re doing The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is a darker sort of twist,” said Hart, who played the eponymous magical adolescent for the duration of the seven-season series. “I think our show was about magic and family, and I think the new one — it sounds like, I have no idea — but the new one is going to be more about witchcraft, dark stuff. I think it sounds more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than it does Sabrina, so I think it will appeal to a different kind of audience and be a totally different show.”

Hart and her costars shared photos from the reunion on social media. “Missing some of our friends but having fun catching up after 20 years,” she wrote on Instagram. “Reunited,” Richert also posted.

In the US, Sabrina the Teenage Witch ran from 1996 to 2003, moving from ABC to The WB after its fourth season. In the UK, Sabrina the Teenage Witch ran from 1997 to the mid-noughties, and quickly became a top show on Nick, often winning Watch Your Own Wednesdays, Watch Your Own Weekends, Watch Your Own Weeks, and Head 2 Head battles.

The series finale saw Sabrina reunite and drive off into the sunset with her high school boyfriend Harvey (Richert). So where would that version of Sabrina and her friends and family be today, Chilling Adventures notwithstanding?

Broderick, who played Sabrina’s Aunt Zelda, didn’t hesitate for a second when asked. “Aunt Zelda is driving an Uber in the Other Realm,” she said serenely.

Ballard likes to think that the Quizmaster has also had a career shift. “I think the Quizmaster would be like a nanny teacher now, like he moved on [from] teenagers. He wants to get in on the ground level; he’s teaching kids, little magic kids how to hold their bottle with magic,” he said. “And I think he would have moved to Miami. Got rid of the mouse [roommate], got a nice little pad next to LeBron [James] down there. He’s chilling on the beach, and when he’s not teaching kids, he’s hanging out, he’s surfing.”

Rhea imagined a rather less pleasant ending for her Aunt Hilda. “I think it’s so sad, I think I probably live with Salem [the cat] alone somewhere and pine for Drell,” she said. “Some pathetic thing.”

Bakay, who played the voice of Salem Saberhagen, the sarcastic black feline, agreed: “I think we are living together, and Salem is still consigned to being a cat for trying to take over the world. I think he’s into Sudoku. I think he’s into role-playing, the whole thing.”

“I think Roxie probably started a punk rock band, maybe moved to New York City, had a couple kids,” Frye said of her character, one of Sabrina’s college roommates in the last three seasons. “She had an edge but she had a heart of gold.”

Donovan, who played Sabrina and Roxie’s other roommate Morgan, imagined her “driving some very wealthy man very crazy, and probably at the same time maybe stalking Josh on the side — and still probably trying to give Sabrina fashion advice.”

“While Josh is being stalked by Morgan, I’m probably still stalking Sabrina,” Lascher said of his character, a love interest and coworker of Sabrina’s with an interest in photography. “I think he’s probably a successful photographer.”

And Sabrina and Harvey? “Well, Sabrina and Harvey would probably be having a 16-year-old at this point, so because of the rules I think I’d be banished somewhere,” Richert said. “We probably figured it out,” Hart assured him, “and probably started our own, like, Hogwarts. Started our own little witch school, maybe foster some children that are part mortal, part witch, and [teach them] how to navigate that world.”

The rest of the cast was immediately on board. “I say screw The CW,” Bakay said. “We got the project right here!”

In additional The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina news, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who will also be steering the Sabrina remake, teased fans earlier this month with a script detailing a conversation between Sabrina and Harvey.


Riverdale airs on The CW in the US, while Netflix airs the show a day later in the UK.

Nickelodeon USA will host the network premiere of the hit movie The Lego Movie, in which ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together, on Saturday 4th November 2017 at 9:00pm ET/PT, as part of Nick@Nite!


Chris Pratt , Elizabeth Banks (Saban’s Power Rangers), Will Arnett (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Morgan Freeman (Now You See Me 2) lend their voices to this CGI-animated comedy based on the line of toys made by Lego!

Nick Jr. UK & Ireland will start to premiere more brand-new episodes of Blaze and the Monster Machines weekdays at 6:00pm from Monday 30th October 2017!


Monday 30th October 2017 - Piggy 500: It's the day of the Piggy 500, and Starla is excited to race with her prize pig, Zippy. But her competitor Crusher and his rude pig, Slop, cheat and send Zippy far away.

Tuesday 31st October 2017 - Pickle Power: Crusher builds a super-powered vacuum to clean up his big mess - but the machine goes haywire, sucking up Crusher and everything in its path! Can Pickle help save Crusher?

Wednesday 1st November 2017 - Knighty Knights: In the kingdom of knight-trucks, Blaze discovers a machine his medieval pals use to recharge. When a dragon snatches the charger, Blaze leads a quest to recover it.

Thursday 2nd November 2017 - Mega Mud Robot: Gasquatch is back! He's been saving up to buy the ultimate toy. When his coins go missing, Blaze helps his mud-loving friend recover them before the toy store closes.

Friday 3rd November 2017 - Encore of "Piggy 500".

Monday 6th November 2017 - Toucan Do it!: Blaze, Starla, and Darington can't wait to play every animal's favourite sport - Jungle Ball! But their teammate Tooks the Toucan gets launched out of the stadium.

Tuesday 7th November 2017 - The Big Ant-Venture: Blaze and Zeg discover a world of tiny creatures. The friends transform into a super-strong ant and a bouncy grasshopper for their littlest big adventure yet!

Nick Jr. will encore each all-new episode the same evening at 8:30pm and the following weekday at 11:00am.

In Blaze and the Monster Machines, the amazing monster truck Blaze and his eight-year-old driver AJ have adventures that explore the physics of how things move; tackle problems through scientific inquiry and mathematics; and discover the parts needed to make everyday technologies work. Each action-packed episode is filled with monster trucks, physical humor and upbeat original songs with lyrics that highlight a STEM concept such as adhesion, friction, force, trajectory and magnetism. Blaze and the Monster Machines is created by Jeff Borkin (Team Umizoomi head writer) and Ellen Martin (Bubble Guppies supervising producer).

Want to take your Halloween decorations to the next level this year? Have no fear, Kaylen's here! She's testing out which spooky Halloween hacks are real HACKS or just plain QUACKS! Happy Halloween!

HACK-O-LATERN (Hack)

What you will need:
- Pumpkin
- Crayons
- Hair dryer
- Glue

Step 1: Place your pumpkin on a flat surface.
Step 2: Glue your crayons on the top of the pumpkin by the stem.
Step 3: Use your hair dryer to melt the crayon. When it melts, the crayon wax should drip down the sides and give you a cool effect when it hardens.

GLOW IN THE DARK JARS (Quack)

What you will need:
- A jar with a lid
- Glow sticks
- Scissors


Step 1: Using your scissors, cut open the glow sticks and pour the liquid into the jar. Be careful not to spill.
Step 2: Once the goo is in the jar, put on the lid and shake it around.

ICE HAND (Hack)

What you will need:
- Water
- Rubber gloves
- String/twist tie
- Halloween Punch
- Freezer

Step 1: Take your rubber gloves and fill them with water.
Step 2: When the glove is full, tie the end shut and freeze it overnight.
Step 3: Take the glove off and put the ice hand in the punch bowl.
