NEW YORK–Oct. 6, 2016– On your mark, get set, go! In celebration of the 30th anniversary year of Double Dare, which originally launched this day, Oct. 6, 1986, Nickelodeon will reunite original host Marc Summers with his beloved announcer Harvey and right-hand woman Robin, for a brand-new commemorative special premiering Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nick at Nite. Featuring vintage footage, behind-the-scenes content and messy new games taped this year, the half-hour special will let fans revisit their favorite game show from their childhood. The special will encore at 10 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon’s The Splat, the network’s programming block dedicated to Nick’s legendary library of hits from the ‘90s and 2000s.

“Double Dare was the show for a particular generation,” said Summers. “For the kids of the ‘80s and ‘90s, they laughed and learned, and got messy in the process. Thirty years later, I believe it’s still the gold standard.”

Double Dare originally aired from 1986-1993 on Nickelodeon, making it the network’s longest running game show. Hosted by Summers, the series consisted of two-member teams of kids competing to win cash and prizes by answering trivia questions, completing messy, physical challenges and facing the infamous obstacle course.


The Double Dare special will kick off a holiday weekend that also includes the premiere of Legends of the Hidden Temple, an original TV movie inspired by the ‘90s game show of the same name, on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). The new action-adventure TV movie follows three siblings who break away from a lackluster tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a high-stakes adventure comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature many elements from the original game show including: Olmec, the legendary talking head; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and appearances from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.

London, 6th October, 2016 — Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has appointed Marianne James, VP Commercial Partnerships, Consumer Products and Experiences for Nickelodeon UK & Ireland.


In a new role for the entertainment company, James is responsible for the commercialisation of Nickelodeon assets and properties within the UK and Irish markets. Covering consumer products, brand and commercial partnerships, events and sponsorships, James’ new position sees her manage the Nickelodeon relationship with Sky Media and oversee the work of Nickelodeon’s Commercial Creative Unit. James reports to Ron Johnson, EVP International CP, Viacom International Media Networks and Alison Bakunowich, General Manager, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland.

“Marianne has done a fantastic job within her consumer products and retail role, spearheading innovative strategies and partnerships,” said Ron Johnson, EVP International CP. “With this new role, Marianne will be key in making our properties work hard for us and our partners by aligning sponsorship and product opportunities so that we provide a seamless, effective service across all commercial opportunities.”

Capitalising on the phenomenal popularity of new properties such as PAW Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines as well as evergreen favourites Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob SquarePants, James’ role will build upon the success of Nickelodeon properties across consumer products into areas such as non-ticketed events, sports and leisure.

With James’ new role solely focused on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products has appointed Felix Ruoff to the role of Vice President, Sales & Marketing EMEA & MENA CP. Ruoff previously worked at The Walt Disney Company, first leading the German Sales team, then moving to France to develop Disney’s CP business across Emerging Markets, and settling in Dubai as the company’s GM Retail & Trade across the MENA region. Ruoff recently worked on a consultancy basis for VIMN and was instrumental in helping VIMN secure their first-ever presence at the Modesh World event in Dubai. Ruoff will report to Mark Kingston, GM & Senior Vice President, Consumer Products, EMEA , for Retail Sales and Marketing and Stefano Araldi, Vice President, Consumer Products, South, Western Europe, Middle East & Africa (SWEMEA) Cluster, for MENA responsibilities.

Gwen Stefani on following her grown-up album with a Nickelodeon cartoon: 'I've played so many different roles'

Gwen Stefani has spent 2016, in her words, “on output.”

In March, the pop singer released her first solo album in a decade, “This Is What the Truth Feels Like,” on which she addressed the unraveling of her marriage to rocker Gavin Rossdale and her subsequent romance with country music hunk Blake Shelton.

Then she went on a summer tour, performing songs from “Truth” and her first two solo records along with classics like “Don’t Speak” and “Just a Girl” by her long-running Orange County rock band, No Doubt.

Now the former star of “The Voice” is returning to television with an animated series on Nickelodeon called “Kuu Kuu Harajuku.” Built around characters she dreamed up as she was writing “Harajuku Girls” — a track from her 2004 solo debut about the fashion-forward women of that Tokyo neighborhood — the show follows the members of a young pop group, HJ5, who have to “come together and use all of their individual strengths to get through obstacles,” as Stefani explained.

Yet she won’t be offstage for long. Following the Nick series’ recent premiere, Stefani, 47, will perform hometown gigs Oct. 15 and 16 at the Forum and Oct. 29 and 30 at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, where her shows will serve as that venue’s last before it’s razed to make way for a new housing development. She recently sat down at Nickelodeon’s animation studio in Burbank to discuss the concerts, the TV series — and her all-time-favorite roadie.

You’re a parent. How did that affect what you wanted to do with “Kuu Kuu Harajuku”?

I have three boys, so I’ve spent the last 10 years watching cartoons. I think that’s all I’ve watched in the last 10 years. But what I haven’t seen — and what I didn’t see growing up, watching “Scooby-Doo” and “Tom and Jerry” — was girls being girls: singing and dancing and wearing makeup. So it was super-important to me to be able to do something that was appropriate and fun for girls.

Making the show appropriate meant—

Making it a safe place. When I wrote “Just a Girl,” I was talking about how as a female you’re born and you don’t think anything about your gender or “Oh, I’m lesser.” Then suddenly you hit puberty and you’re walking along the street and someone’s whistling.

On tour this summer I would look out at the audience every night and see a dad that was tatted up, probably went to old punk No Doubt shows, and he’d have his daughter on his shoulders in her harajuku outfit, probably her first concert. And I’m singing “Just a Girl” to her, and she’s experiencing it for the first time.

I didn’t write the song to be, like, girl power or anything it was interpreted to be. But I know now that I’ve been a role model, and it’s something I take seriously.

Many pop stars talk about rejecting that responsibility. But you’re embracing it.

Because I know who I am, and I’m comfortable with my morals and my standards. And I feel proud of what I’ve done, especially in the last year, with what I’ve had to go through.

Speaking of which: “This Is What the Truth Feels Like” talks about grown-up topics in a grown-up way. Yet with this TV show you’re communicating with kids in their language.

Well, you’re not the same person for everybody you know. My middle son, he had never really seen me perform before this tour. He’s 8 years old; the last time I went on tour I had just given birth to him. And at first he was so weirded out. But then he got so into it, to the point where I have a quick [costume] change during the show, and he’d have his little headset light and he’d take me on and off the stage every night. He was part of the crew.

I’ve played so many different roles being a mother and also having a career — an artistic career where I’ve used music to save my life so many times.

That’s how making this latest album felt.

When I wrote the first song, I literally had to cry my way to the studio. I was like, “I know the only way forward is to do this right now.” So I did it — I wrote a song, and it was the greatest feeling. It didn’t make the record, that one, but it put me through to the next place. Then they just started to come. I’m so proud of it because I feel like I could easily have just felt sorry for myself and laid around. And I did do that. But then I got there and started believing in myself again.

What was it like to get back on the road and play those songs live?

Spiritual. I felt like Rocky at the top of the steps — being up there and being able to see the people that loved me and supported me in real life, not the people that saw me taking my kid to school in a paparazzi shot.

They were on your side.

They’re the people who took the time to come out and listen to my story and sing it back to me. They were with me growing up, and now they’re showing me to their babies. It was a lot of intensity.

And now it’s coming to a close.

The end of the tour was weird. I had the boys with me, then they went back to their dad, so it was just me for the last two shows. I literally found myself in a hotel room in Fresno, online shopping for 24 hours straight. I kind of went into this crazy, dark depression. It’s not just the end of a tour but the end of a huge chapter for me: being able to be creative again and climb out and find love and be strong enough to get to a different place. I’d been running fast, so it was really devastating for it to end.

What’s next?

I don’t really know. I don’t see myself making another record right now. I feel excited about getting into my mom role. My baby’s 2 ½, so it’s the real deal now — like, “I wanna play with you, Mommy.”

What about these upcoming shows? Is your middle son rejoining the road crew?

He thinks he’s going on tour again. I told him, “We’re not going on tour — you’re in school.”

"Bing Bunny" Hops Onto Nick Jr. Australia And New Zealand

Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand has acquired the broadcast rights to the Emmy Award winning CG-animated preschool series Bing Bunny for its top-performing preschool channel, Nick Jr. Australia and New Zealand!


Bing follows a pre-school bunny named Bing as he experiences the world around him. The series uses small everyday occurrences to demonstrate how he learns new ways to manage situations with the help of his carer, Flop, and his family and friends - Sula, Amma, Pando, Padget, Coco, and Charlie. The show's central phrase is "It's a Bing thing!" which Flop intones at the end of each episode when Bing has successfully conquered a troubling task or enjoyed a new childhood experience.

Developed by Acamar Films, the series is based on the popular children's books by Ted Dewan, and is produced by Acamar Films, Brown Bag Films, Tandem Films and Digitales Studios. The series is executive produced by former Nickelodeon UK executive Howard Litton, Lucy Murphy, and Philip Bergkvist.


Distributed by Aardman's sales division, which struck the new deal with Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand, Bing airs on CBeebies in the UK, BBC Worldwide channels in Africa, ABC in Australia, RTE in Ireland, Clan in Spain and NRK in Norway, and has also just launched on Canal+ in Poland. Disney Junior has also just acquired the rights for its preschool channel in southeast Asia.

Nickelodeon Australia And Network Ten Partner For KFC Big Bash League Coverage; Launch New Show "Crash The Bash"

Australia: The KFC Big Bash League (BBL) and Rebel Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) have announced a new partnership with global kid’s entertainment brand, Nickelodeon, which will bring slime-covered fun to the series' sixth season!

Under the terms of the new agreement, the partnership with Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand will include the launch of Crash The Bash, a BBL kid's TV show produced in collaboration with Network 10, as well as at-match activity and digital promotions over the course of the season.

Crash The Bash will be hosted by Ollie McCormack (Toasted TV) and Nickelodeon presenter, Kristy Best (Slime Cup). Crash The Bash will premiere on Ten on Saturday, 24 December at 9.00am, and shown throughout the week on Nickelodeon, as well as across digital platforms.

Crash The Bash is a first-of-its-kind in-content collaboration in Australia between a sporting body and a global children's entertainment brand, providing young fans with more opportunities to interact with the KFC BBL and Rebel WBBL.

Nickelodeon will also be at selected matches throughout BBL|06, as well as the opening weekend of the Rebel WBBL on 10 December at North Sydney Oval. Fans at selected matches will have even more reason to cheer, with one lucky family at each of the matches winning a family trip to Nickelodeon Land at Sea World on the Gold Coast during the innings break. Throughout the BBL season, fans will also have the chance to win one of two family holiday to Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards 2017 in Los Angeles. The prize includes return economy airfares to LA for two adults and two children, transfers, five nights' accommodation, and four tickets to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

To be in with a chance to win, fans simply need to download the soon to be released Cricket Australia app, attend any match during BBL|06, and take and share a photo of themselves using the Nickelodeon filter featured in the app. One entry from each match will instantly win a $100 BBL Store voucher and go in the running to win the ultimate prize at the end of the season.

At the BBL Final, lucky fans will be picked from the crowd to take part in a competition at-match to win the other family trip to LA for the 2017 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Ride follows the adventures of Katherine "Kit" Bridges when she and her Dad, Rudy, move to England for his new job at Covington Academy, an elite equestrian boarding school. Life at a new school is never easy – particularly when you are afraid to ride – but Kit will be able to handle any challenge she faces thanks to her new friend, TK... who just so happens to be the most stubborn and difficult horse at the Academy! Ride airs Monday to Thursday at 7pm ET/PT on YTV and is coming to Nickelodeon channels worldwide very soon, including Nickelodeon Australia & New Zealand on Monday 10th October 2016 and Nickelodeon UK & Ireland/HD from Monday 7th November 2016!

Commissioned by Nickelodeon and YTV and produced by Canada's Breakthrough Entertainment and the UK's Buccaneer Media, the 20x30-minute show, formally titled Let It Ride, is created by Jill Girling (Life with Derek) and Lori Mather-Welch (Would Be Kings, Queer As Folk). Executive producers for Breakthrough are Joan Lambur, Ira Levy, Peter Williamson, Michael McGuigan, Nat Abraham and Shelley Scarrow. Tony Wood (House of Anubis) is executive producing for Buccaneer. The series was cast by KM Casting. The series was filmed in Toronto and on location in Northern Ireland.
