Official Nickelodeon Africa Press Release via Entertainment Inside Us:
Joburg's Brightest Young Sparks To Battle It Out For Title Of Nickelodeon Genius 2017
Joburg’s brightest kids are set to battle it out in the upcoming Gauteng South heat of Nickelodeon’s Genius brought to you by ABSA.
Ninety kids aged 11-16 from schools throughout the region will be joining in a 2 day interactive workshop and regional quiz at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, in Newtown, Johannesburg on 14-15 September as Nickelodeon and ABSA challenge kids to get in touch with their inner Genius.
Tasania Parsadh, Channel Director, Nickelodeon, Africa commented “We are very excited to kick off Nickelodeon’s Genius here in Gauteng South: We are expecting a colourful, loud, exciting and fun-packed 2 days with lots of future Einsteins and Hawkings taking part. To come this far, the contestants have already shown they are not short on grey matter, so the key conundrum is: do they have what it takes to go to the next level?”
All the participants will enjoy a challenging but fun two-day workshop where they will have to complete a variety of challenges including maths quizzes, experiments and problem solving tasks. Time will be their biggest enemy, as trios of bright young teens and pre-teens go head-to-head in mind bending battles of wits and smarts.
At the end of the 2 days, two teams from Gauteng South will make it through to the Nickelodeon Genius TV series, where they they will go up against teams from all over South Africa.
Nickelodeon’s Genius is powered by ABSA MegaU, and supported by the Government’s Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The winners will receive an amazing prize: a ZAR 100,000 ABSA MegaU account for each member of the winning team and an unforgettable visit to NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA - where the winners will eat lunch with a real, live astronaut – and a trip to Universal Studios! The winning schools will receive books and educational material worth ZAR 50,000, courtesy of Cambridge Publishing.
Initial highlights of Nickelodeon’s Genius regional heats and workshops will air on NickToons (DStv 308) from December 2016, while the quiz show will air on NickToons from March 2017.
