Colors Tamil to Launch ‘Nick Neram’ Nickelodeon Programming Block in India

India - The true definition of happiness is in finishing classes and tuning in to watch your favourite Nicktoons. Colors Tamil, the fastest growing GEC of Tamil Nadu, is all set to entice its young viewers’ with the launch of ‘Nick Neram’, a kids’ special segment, from the house of Nickelodeon!

Rudra: Boom Chik Chik Boom

As a part of this special initiative, Colors Tamil will air Golmaal Jr and Rudra: Boom Chik Chik Boom, two brand new animated series every Monday to Friday at 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM respectively, starting 24th January, 2022.

In an endeavour to establish a deeper relationship through its home-grown content, the Nickelodeon franchise in association with Colors Tamil will engage viewers in a language of their choice. Created by prominent Bollywood director Rohit Shetty, Golmaal Jr. is inspired by his own comedy film series, Golmaal.

Meanwhile, premised on the fictional magical cities Sun City and Kaal City, Rudra: Boom Chik Chik Boom narrates the story of a 9-year-old magician, who is learning to harness his supernatural powers.

Commenting on the new shows, Rajaraman S, Business Head, Colors Tamil, said, “After the success of our current shows, we are elated to introduce two animated series to our lineup. While all our fiction and non-fiction shows have been popular among the Tamil viewers, we are now confident that Nick Neram will help us gain prominence among children as well.

“We are certain that this fresh, relevant, localized and compelling segment is another landmark for Colors Tamil in its journey to become the most preferred family entertainment channel in the Tamil entertainment space,” Rajaraman  said.

Speaking on synergising its content for Tamil viewers, Anu Sikka, Head, Creative, Content and Research, Kids TV Network, Viacom18, said, “At Nickelodeon, it has always been our endeavour to make our stories and characters to travel and reach out to a wider audience set. Tamil is an important market for our kids cluster and Colors Tamil’s popularity will help us establish a deeper relationship with our existing viewers while attracting new viewers with home-grown content that is relatable.

“We are excited on this integration with Colors Tamil and will continue to synergise and explore similar possibilities going forward,” Sikka said.


Nickelodeon India and Colors Tamil are owned and operated by Viacom18, a joint venture operation between TV18 and ViacomCBS.

UMI And Ananey Studios Collaborate On ‘Pisces Lane’ for Nickelodeon Israel

Universal Music Israel, a division of Universal Music Group, and Ananey Studios, a ViacomCBS company, will partner on Pisces Lane, a new series created by Michal Cooper Keren (SpydersSpell Keepers) and Lior Yaron.


Produced by Ananey Studios in collaboration with The Co-Production Company, Pisces Lane follows sixteen-year-old best friends Dalina, Ella and Yasmin, who grew up together in a mixed neighborhood in Jaffa. They start a multi-lingual band called Talatha, whose original music will be included in the show. UMG Israel will produce and release all music.


The new live-action teen series will air on Nickelodeon Israel for Hot Cable Network. The Co-Production Company will secure financing and global distribution for territories outside Israel.

Yoram Mokady, managing director of Universal Music Israel, said: “Given that this collaboration among these leading international leaders occurs in this exciting teen tv series means that it will significantly enhance the discovery, nurturing and exposure of Israeli talent’s next wave. This partnership with Ananey Studios is one of several major projects that UMG Israel will launch in the coming months as we look to expand the profile of Israeli music around the world”.

Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO of Ananey and EVP of ViacomCBS Israel, said, “Pisces Lane is a truly unique teen series in so many ways, and the music in it is no different. We are excited to be collaborating with UMG Israel and to bring to viewers everywhere not only a riveting story and characters but also up and coming music talents”.

Netflix to Add 'That Girl Lay Lay' In the U.S. and Internationally on Jan. 21

Netflix has acquired the rights to Nickelodeon's new live-action buddy comedy series That Girl Lay Lay, and will add the series to the platform's programming libraries in the internationally on January 21, 2022!


Currently confirmed countries where Netflix will add That Girl Lay Lay are: USA, Canada, UK and Hungary (A Sadie és Lay Lay kalandjai), although the show is expected to be added to more Netflix programming libraries the same day.

Update (1/25) -That Girl Lay Lay is currently the sixth most watched show on Netflix right now!

Although Netflix acquiring the rights to Nickelodeon shows isn't new, with recent examples being iCarly, Big Time Rush, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra and, in select territories, PAW Patrol, the situation is a bit different with That Girl Lay Lay, as the show only premiered on Nickelodeon in September last year and has only aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S., meaning that the series will be making its streaming debut on Netflix before ViacomCBS' own streamer Paramount+ in the U.S., and its debut on streaming before the show's linear TV premiere internationally (and before Nick+ in Canada). It's currently unknown if the series will also air on Nickelodeon (or YTV in Canada) following its SVOD premiere.

Netflix acquiring That Girl Lay Lay at this time is a bit strange, as ViacomCBS is planning to rollout Paramount+ in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA) this year, and is also partnering with Comcast to launch SkyShowtime, a new SVOD, in more than 20 European regions. It also comes when Paramount+ is still bolstering its own programming library with content from ViacomCBS brands, including Nickelodeon.


Generally, ViacomCBS licensing Nickelodeon programming to Netflix is part of the company's strategy to expose Nickelodeon franchises to new audiences - something the company has been open about. During a interview with The Hollywood Reporter in July 2021, Brian Robbins, President & Chief Executive Officer of Nickelodeon, and Chief Content Officer of Kids & Family for Paramount+ talked more about ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish’s strategy to license to third-party outlets in a bid to expose content to bigger audiences before ultimately taking it back as an exclusive:

"That’s been my strategy from the start. There’s two great examples of that. Avatar: The Last Airbender was a series that ran for three seasons on Nickelodeon and was never a huge show, but had an amazing following. We licensed that show to Netflix and it exploded. Then we put this spinoff of Avatar, The Legend of Korra, on Paramount+, and it crushed it. That led us to our new relationship and bringing the creators of Avatar back to Nickelodeon to form Avatar Studios. We are now on our way to a full-fledged franchise strategy, creating films and spinoffs out of Avatar.

"The second example, which actually has paid off this month, is iCarly. We knew we were going to do a reboot of iCarly, it just took us a while to put it together. Once we knew we had it going, we licensed just a season or two of iCarly to Netflix and it exploded with new kids discovering it for the first time, and fans who grew up on it rediscovered it. The demand for the new show was at such a fever pitch by the time [the new show] launched that it propelled iCarly to be, if not the most successful show on Paramount+, one of the most successful shows."

Robbins also confirmed that series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and iCarly would eventually be taken off of Netflix and become Paramount+ exclusives, adding "[y]es. And it’s not like this is some secret that we’re pulling the wool over anybody else’s eyes on other services. They’re happy to have the content and they understand the strategy. We’re very upfront about it."


That Girl Lay Lay (13 x 30-minute episodes) is a all-new buddy comedy series that follows Lay Lay (Alaya “That Girl Lay Lay” High), an avatar from a personal affirmation app that magically comes to life, and her best friend Sadie (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, All That) as they navigate life as teenagers and discover who they truly are.

In the premiere of That Girl Lay Lay, "Out The App," Sadie wishes upon a star that her hype-girl avatar, Lay Lay, were real, causing Lay Lay to magically come to life. Now that she is in the real world with Sadie, Lay Lay decides that she wants a teenage experience herself and enrolls in the local school. Using her innate charm, Lay Lay convinces Sadie that she needs to come out of her shell and the best way for her to stand out is to run for student council.


That Girl Lay Lay follows Lay Lay, an avatar from a phone app, and Sadie, a girl who is struggling to make her mark in school and in need of a best friend to talk to. After Sadie wishes upon a star that her hype-girl avatar Lay Lay was real, she magically comes to life, and the two friends learn that when they are together, they can accomplish anything. That Girl Lay Lay also stars Peyton Perrine III as Sadie’s brother, Marky; Tiffany Daniels as Sadie’s mom, Trish; Thomas Hobson as Sadie’s dad, Bryce; and Caleb Brown as Lay Lay and Sadie’s classmate, Jeremy.

The series marks Nickelodeon’s first project under an overall deal with That Girl Lay Lay to develop original multiform programming and music initiatives, and build a cross-category consumer products business. In addition to her new comedy series, Nickelodeon’s comprehensive strategy for That Girl Lay Lay includes supporting her music career and an exclusive line of consumer products, with merchandising agreements spanning categories such as softlines, toy, publishing and more.

That Girl Lay Lay is produced by Will Packer Media (Bigger), with Will Packer (Little, Ride Along) and Carolyn Newman serving as executive producers and Toy Monique Hawkins and Peggy Cheng overseeing. The series is created and executive produced by David A. Arnold (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Bigger), who also serves as showrunner. John Beck & Ron Hart (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Liv and Maddie) serve as executive producers.

Production of That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon is overseen by Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. Jessica Brown serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

The series was recently renewed for a second season, which is slated to premiere in 2023.

Funko to Release Nickelodeon NFTs

Funko has teamed up with Nickelodeon to launch a range of Nickelodeon non-fungible tokens (NFTs)!


"Funko brings you your favorite Nickelodeon Cartoons including: Rugrats, Invader Zim, Hey Arnold! and many more. Collect & relive your favorite Nicktoons in a whole new way!," reads the description.

Titled Nickelodeon Cartoons x Funko, Series 1 of the collection will drop on Tuesday, February 1 at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET, and will feature Funko-fied digital versions of beloved Nickelodeon characters, such as Tommy Pickles from Rugrats (Grail), CatDog from CatDog, Invader ZIM and GIR from Invader ZIM (Uncommon) Ickis from AAAHH!!! Real Monsters (Rare), Donnie from The Wild Thornberrys, and Danny Phantom from Danny Phantom (Epic) - as well as Freddy Funko with a Nickelodeon Blimp. As each NFT is digital, each NFT is animated, allowing them to feature extras, such as CatDog being slimed and Freddy Funko flying away with the blimp.

Cubles Partners With Nickelodeon for 3D Paperboard Toys

Nick News Brief: New toy company Cubles has revealed that it has partnered with ViacomCBS Consumer Products for Cubles based on hit Nickelodeon properties such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Invader ZIM, Garfield, and Ren & Stimpy! The toyco has also partnered with Hasbro for Cubles inspired by Power Rangers, Peppa Pig, Transformers, GI Joe, My Little Pony, Potato Head, Dungeons & Dragons and Tonka.


Cubles created a reinvented paper toy in which kids put together a character from strong and sturdy paperboard - no glue or scissors required - which all have moving parts. Think of Cubles as a 3D mash-up of puzzles, origami, action figures, and collectibles. Made in the U.S. and fully recyclable, Cubles transform from greeting card-sized packages to sturdy 3D paperboard characters — highly detailed and articulated — with no scissors, no glue, and no mess. Book Characters Come to Life as Cubles

The owners of several book-based licensed properties for children have signed deals with a start-up licensee, Cubles. The company makes sustainable paperboard construction kits that allow children (and pop culture-loving adults) to make sturdy, all-paper sculptures of characters that can move—a trait that is difficult to achieve without the use of any plastic pieces. Cubles describes the product, which comes packaged in a box the size of a thick greeting card, as a mash-up of origami and a puzzle.

The first two licenses signed by now two-year-old Cubles were the odd couple of Little House on the Prairie, licensed by Spotlight Licensing, and the rock group KISS, according to founder Joel Morris, who got the idea about eight years ago when he began to engineer a project for his young daughters. “I wanted to get them off their screens and make them think,” he says.

Literary properties on the company’s roster to date, in addition to Little House, include Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man, licensed by MerryMakers; Dana Simpson’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn, a comic property published by Universal Click and Andrews McMeel, which is in development at Nickelodeon for a streaming TV series; and John Gallagher’s Max Meow middle grade graphic novel series published by Random House Books for Young Readers. Negotiations are ongoing for additional properties. Cubles’ non-literary licenses, beyond KISS, include Nickelodeon properties such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, and others; Hasbro brands such as GI Joe, My Little Pony, and, in the future, Peppa Pig and Mr. Potato Head; David Gravel Racing; and the Professional Bullriders.

Cubles’ parameters for selecting IP from which to create Cubles kits, according to Morris, include “things that are near and dear to us” and have distinctive features that remain recognizable when adapted into blocky paper sculptures. “We look for good-hearted, well-known brands that we can make cool products out of,” Morris explained. The core age group is 6­–12, but the company is considering some properties that would lend themselves to figures that preschoolers and their parents or caregivers could build together.

Some of Cubles’ non-licensed kits, as well as Dog Man—which has six characters in its Cubles line to date, with three more coming in spring—have been made into classroom kits for grades three to six. Each contains 15 kits, backed by downloadable lesson plans. “When you make a Cuble you’re naturally touching on spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and linear learning,” Morris said. The sculptures include coded tabs and pre-scored seams, and there are pictures of the finished product, but there are no instructions, so students have to solve the puzzle on their own.

Cubles are made in the U.S. of recycled materials. “Part of our mission is to create jobs, and we’re doing all the manufacturing in the Twin Cities,” where Cubles is based, Morris said. Sustainability is also a priority. “I wanted to make something fun, like the plastic stuff, but not plastic,” he added. The company also offsets its paper needs by donating funds for the planting of 100 trees for each tree used in manufacturing.

Overlord and the Underwoods is a original half-hour, live-action, single camera family comedy series (20×30') that follows the Underwoods, a North American family, whose life is turned upside down when their distant cousin, Overlord, the second most-wanted villain in the universe, seeks refuge in their home after being forced into intergalactic witness protection. After snitching out his boss, the evil Mega-Lord Supreme, Overlord is sent to live with his incredibly nice, distant cousins on Planet Earth. Over the course of the series, the evil Overlord and the very sweet Underwoods discover a thing or two about each other as they learn to treasure the value of family and the importance of true friendship, diversity, and compassion.

And under that theme, the first things that comes to mind are Alf, Harry and the Hendersons and E.T.

The end results are always unpredictable with the collision of these two worlds under one roof, but somehow there’s always something reaffirming – and entertaining –that happens which changes the lives of both parties.

Now there is a new TV comedy series to add to the “fish-out-of-water” category: “Overlord and the Underwoods”, created by marblemedia and Cloudco Entertainment, in which its first 10 episodes can now be seen on the CBC Gem streamlining service; the remaining episodes will air in the winter of 2022.

Co-created by Anthony Q. Farrell (The Office) and Ryan Wiesbrock (Buddy Thunderstruck), Overlord and the Underwoods follows the weekly misadventures of the Underwoods, a typical suburban North American family, who receive a totally unexpected house guest who is literally out of this world: a distant cousin named Overlord, an intergalactic villain who decides to seek refuge with the Underwood family after he snitches on his boss, the very evil Colossatrotus.

“This is like Darth Vader under the witness protection program, but is balanced with the premise of a family comedy. It’s like a fun spinoff on the classic battle of good versus evil, but we decided to make the Underwoods just as interesting as the Overlord,” said Farrell during a recent phone interview.

Farrell stated that the idea for the series evolved from an impromptu competition he had with Wiesbrock over who can create a different kind of family series. “We wanted to hearken back to the series we watched when we were younger, and we decided that a super villain living with a normal family would be a cool element. So we noodled around with the idea and we got a promise of show for the series in early 2017,” he said.

One thing Farrell noticed about the character of the Overlord is the way he reacts to different situations, as a sort of “king of over reaction”. “The Overlord is a character who is insecure and reacts with outbursts to a number of ridiculous situations,” he said. “He likes to over react to the smaller things in life, which lends to his overall pomposity, and makes it funnier that he can’t handle those little things.”

Another outstanding feature of the Overlord is his stand-out blue costume, which was designed by Oscar-winning FX specialist Roger Christian, who is best known for creating the costumes of such legendary Star Wars characters as C-3P0 and R2-D2, as well as the omnipresent light sabre.

“When I was told that Roger was interested in working on the show, my first reaction was ‘are you serious?’,” he said. “I was always a Star Wars nerd. And I was amazed at the work Roger put into the Overlord’s costume. He was always production-minded, not to mention a very kind and generous person to boot. Overall, Roger was a dream to work with.”

Overlord and the Underwoods also boast an impressive cast, including Jan Arden as the voice of RO-FL (the Overlord’s droid companion), and veteran comedian/actor Jayne Eastwood, as the Underwoods’ quirky neighbor. “Jayne does add a quirky element to the show, but her character gets more meatier during the second half of the season, especially one episode where she hosts a dinner party,” said Farrell. “As we progressed further with the filming of the episodes, I got to know much more about Jayne and why she is such a legend in the world of Canadian film and television. We had a great time working with her.”

Before Overlord and the Underwoods debuted on CBC Gem, it premiered on the Nickelodeon UK channel this past September, where it was met with a great deal of success. And Farrell admits that the show is getting just as much positive feedback since it first aired on CBC Gem. He adds that it’s due to the antics and hilarity that greet Overlord and the Underwood family on each episode, which are enjoyed by both children and adult viewers alike.

“This is a show that families can watch and laugh together. Everyone gets something out of it,” he said. “It’s fun, silly and gives us a lot of reasons to laugh, which can help us forget our problems for 30 minutes per episode.”

After getting his start on ‘The Office’ Toronto showrunner Anthony Q. Farrell is creating opportunities for others


Farrell, named Playback’s Showrunner of the Year, wants to see “more writers of colour who are in positions of power” in the TV industry.

Anthony Q. Farrell looks forward to the day that it’s so routine for people of colour to occupy senior levels of television production that their presence goes unremarked.

But we’re not there yet, which is why, on the day that a snowstorm ravaged Ontario, we were on Zoom from our respective GTA homes talking about his career as a TV writer and producer — he was recently named Showrunner of the Year by Playback magazine — and what he hopes to do for the careers of others.

If you’ve heard Farrell’s name, there’s a good chance it’s in connection with “The Office.” The Toronto-born Farrell, the son of immigrants from St. Kitts and Nevis, wrote for the beloved, multiple Emmy-winning American comedy for two years.

He got his start in showbiz through theatre: he studied theatre and math at Queen’s University with the idea of becoming a math and drama teacher (his parents are accountants) but also attended the Humber Comedy Program and performed theatre in places like Vermont and Gananoque, Ont.

He ended up in the U.S. after his wife, author Ginette Barton-Sinkia, inherited a green card and had to move to the States to keep it. They went first to Atlanta and then Los Angeles, where Farrell, 44, did standup, performed improv with the storied Groundlings troupe, and wrote, directed and acted for a company called MET Theatre.

A friend’s suggestion that he write for TV led to him getting a manager and acceptance into a diversity program at NBC, which led to the “Office” gig.

Unfortunately, after working on almost 50 episodes of the show, he was let go along with many other writers after the 2008 recession hit. “But the nice thing is I have the credit now, which has helped me all the way throughout my career,” he said.

“Then I got into family comedy somehow,” he added. “Disney came calling. They read a script that I had written about pimps.”

Yes, that’s right, pimps — as in a pimp who learns he has a child and decides to get rid of all his bling to save money for his kid. That show never got made, but its story and characters were strong enough for Disney to start developing ideas with Farrell, which led to Nickelodeon hiring him to write for “The Thundermans.” He then made “Secret Life of Boys” for the BBC, which has won a BAFTA and several other awards in the U.K.

But in 2017, Farrell and his wife, also a Torontonian, decided it was time to come home. Their son was three at the time and their daughter 10, “and raising your kids in America is a different situation,” Farrell said. “I remember (my son) came home with a picture of firemen and police, and we had to have a conversation about why he couldn’t trust the police officers.”

The kids have been thriving here and so has Farrell’s career.

Among his various projects — he’s showrunner for the Super Channel sitcom “The Parker Andersons,” directed a couple of episodes of CBC’s new hit “Son of a Critch,” and is developing shows with American and British companies — is the CBC Gem comedy “Overlord and the Underwoods.” (It also airs on Nickelodeon in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, and BYUtv in the U.S., with more broadcasters to be announced.)

The idea for the comedy — about an alien fugitive in intergalactic witness protection who hides out on Earth with his distant cousin and her family — was hatched about a decade ago by Ryan Wiesbrock, head of development at American company Cloudco Entertainment. Farrell was brought on by Cloudco and Toronto’s marblemedia as showrunner and co-creator. It made its CBC debut in October and 10 more episodes were released Friday.

The fact that the Underwoods are a Black family is a point of pride for Farrell but also a result of serendipity, since the scripts weren’t written with ethnicity in mind.

“I said, ‘Let’s just keep it open. We’ll cast the best family.’”

That turned out to be Patrice Goodman, known for TV sketch comedy “Sunnyside,” as mom Flower and Second City comedian Darryl Hinds as dad Jim, with Ari Resnick and Kamaia Fairburn as son Weaver and daughter Willow. Their arrogant house guest Overlord is played by Troy Feldman, an actor, dancer, choreographer and stuntman who aced the requirement to do all his scenes in a hot costume and helmet since he’d performed as a Toronto Blue Jays mascot.

“Overlord” also has a creative team and crew that reflects the “very eclectic, very diverse” city of Toronto, Farrell said.

One of his aims is to encourage Black, Indigenous and people of colour to get involved at all levels of production.

When he returned to Canada, he found “there were a lot of BIPOC writers, but they weren’t in (writers) rooms … I think there was a better job being done on the drama side of things to incorporate diversity in the writing rooms, but the comedy rooms were still very white.”

It was especially hard to find BIPOC writers to serve as co-executive producers on “Overlord.”

“I was like, I think that’s one of the things I need to start building, is trying to figure out ways to get writers of colour to become producers.”

To that end, he has started a showrunner training boot camp with the industry group BIPOC TV & Film.

The most recent report on equity, diversity and inclusion from the Writers Guild of Canada found some gains — such as modest increases in co-executive producer and consulting producer credits for writers from under-represented communities — but also losses, with a drop in the percentage of Indigenous writers working on Canadian TV.

“Historically speaking, if you have a female showrunner she’ll hire more female writers and that’s how you get more women working. If you have a BIPOC showrunner they’re going to hire more BIPOC writers and that’s how you get more BIPOC writers,” Farrell said. “So I’m mentoring (other writers), but I’m hopefully mentoring mentors … more writers of colour who are in positions of power (who) can make the change quicker.

“Those numbers, they have to start growing soon and, hopefully, over the next four or five years that’ll get sorted. That’s my hope.”

Desde el 7 de enero Nickelodeon comenzó a emitir en América Latina su nueva serie de comedia y acción en vivo Drama Club (10×30′). La misma trata sobre un grupo de estudiantes de secundaria y el funcionamiento interno del club de teatro de su escuela. 

   En el episodio de estreno de esta serie de Nickelodeon, el club de teatro de la escuela secundaria Tookus tiene a un estudiante como su nuevo director. El joven asume el cargo emocionado por cambiar la percepción del club frente a la escuela y sus estudiantes. Además ganarse el apoyo del director del colegio. Sin embargo, cuando el coreógrafo del club de teatro sufre una lesión, los niños de Drama Club rápidamente se dan cuenta de que su única esperanza para salvar la situación es acudir a un rival. Por supuesto, del amado equipo de fútbol de su escuela en busca de ayuda.

Por otro lado, el lunes 10 estreno en los países de la región Middlemost Aventura Postal. Este seriado cuenta la historia de cuando una nube de lluvia reformada se une a un cartero náufrago. Además a una morsa mágica, los tres forman el Middlemost Post. Este es el servicio postal más disparatado y adorable del Monte Middlemost.

PLUTO TV ESTRENA EN SU CATÁLOGO ON DEMAND LA SERIE ROCKET POWER

El servicio de streaming gratuito de ViacomCBS, Pluto TV, estrenó este lunes (24) la serie animada Rocket Power, una producción emitida por Nickelodeon entre 1999 y 2004, y que ya se puede ver en el segmento On Demand.

La historia gira en torno a Otto, Reggie, Sam y Twister, cuatros amigos que practican todo tipo de deportes extremos en una ciudad de California. Juntos recorren las olas, las pistas de patinaje, hacen snowboard en la montaña, juegan al hockey y, por supuesto, asimilan las verdaderas lecciones que transmite el deporte, como la lealtad y el compañerismo.

Creada por Arlene Klasky y Gábor Csupó, Rocket Power es una producción de Nickelodeon en colaboración con Klasky Csuppo, estudio responsable de otros icónicos "Nicktoons" como Rugrats, Ginger y The Thornberrys.

La animación cuenta con un total de 71 episodios en 4 temporadas, faltando solo dos episodios de la segunda temporada, pero el resto ya está disponible de forma gratuita en el catálogo On Demand de Pluto TV.

Paramount+ Latin America (Latinoamérica), the streaming service from ViacomCBS Networks Americas, will be premiering the brand new CG-animated The Smurfs (Los Pitufos) series on Monday 1st November 2021 and adding Nickelodeon's hit animated preschool series Baby Shark's Big Show! How Sesame Street Is Handling the Pandemic

Kids’ media have achieved a level of clarity and directness in their pandemic coverage that can be hard to find in outlets geared toward older audiences.

When the CDC recommended COVID-19 vaccines for 5-to-11-year-olds in early November, adult publications rushed to explain what the move meant for families, schools, and the pandemic at large. While most of the media competed for grown-up attention, a different network of sources targeted the group most affected by the news—but first, it had to explain what a vaccine is.

The children’s-news landscape is a strange one, melding education and entertainment to explain complex, adult topics to developing minds with short attention spans. Many outlets are connected with adult publications, such as The New York Times and Time, but certain children’s shows, such as Sesame Street, have also forayed into the news business. And while some have been around for years, others, including NBC’s Nightly News: Kids Edition and a rebooted Nick News, have popped up more recently, aiming to help young ones navigate this particularly stressful news moment.

Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a more difficult time to explain the news to kids. Communicating about the pandemic with adults is challenging enough—many sources face (often reasonable) criticism for offering confusing guidance, instilling fear, and deepening a partisan divide. Those targeting kids must avoid all of those traps while also catering to the ways young brains process information. For one, we gain the ability to think abstractly as we age; in our childhood, we need concrete explanations, Abigail Gewirtz, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, told me. Children may get scared more easily, so kids’ news outlets tend to try not to induce too much fear, Gewirtz said. Editors also need to consider kids’ reading level (if they can read at all) and the depth of their knowledge of a topic (likely, not much). On top of all this, producers still must grab their audience’s attention, just like they would an adult’s, by keeping coverage focused on what children are actually interested in and being careful to not alienate them by talking down.

Despite these hurdles, or perhaps because of them, ​​kids’ media have achieved a level of clarity and directness in their pandemic coverage that can be hard to find in outlets geared toward older audiences. Articles are straightforward because they have to be; it’s the only way kids will understand them. They’re also heavy on context, making few assumptions about what the audience already knows. And though they’re mostly neutral in their tone, many will also acknowledge children’s feelings and soothe them where they can.

When I asked editors and producers about their goals for coverage, they all pointed to knowledge and a sense of comfort for kids. Those at Nick News and Time for Kids told me that their aim was to share information, not to convince. Many of the experts interviewed certainly encouraged vaccination, but those editors were keenly aware that the audience being addressed had little real agency to affect the course of the pandemic or to change vaccination rates. “We neither wanted to scare children who weren’t going to have [the vaccine], nor did we want to encourage children to say that they needed to have it. That’s just not our place,” Time for Kids’ editor in chief, Andrea Delbanco, told me.

Instead, Delbanco and many of the others I interviewed aimed to provide kids with a reliable source of information that they could learn from directly. Many efforts to educate children on the vaccine have shared the same basic format—soliciting questions from children and getting answers from experts, including acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, United States Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. Stories and segments often start with the basics about what vaccines do and later address practical behavior considerations: “My mask makes me hot. Do I still have to wear one?” one child asked Murthy on Nick News. “Will it hurt?” another asked of the vaccine on a Sesame Street special that aired on CNN. The uniformity may seem surprising, but those I spoke with told me that the approach felt obvious. “It just was a no-brainer to have kids ask the questions, not for adults to formulate it: ‘Well, what little Timmy meant to say was …’” Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson, the executive producer of Nick News and the vice president of news planning for Nickelodeon, told me. “It was more like, ‘Look, I’ve got my birthday in July, and I want to have a party. Can I?’ So that’s about as direct as it will get from a child.”

This level of bluntness is both necessary for children’s understanding and one of the most refreshing parts of kids’ media. “Asking people to presuppose that you have no context or background knowledge to build upon gets a really different answer than one often gets when people are trying to spin an answer for adults,” Delbanco explained. “You really get right to the heart of certain things.” And this approach doesn’t preclude complexity, either. Although the interviews tend to start with quite simple questions (one kid reporter at Time for Kids asked Murthy to explain the difference between himself and Anthony Fauci), they build to surprising levels of nuance. Time for Kids tackled the difference between the FDA’s and the CDC’s role in vaccine approval, for instance, while CNN and Sesame Street addressed the safety of having playdates with unvaccinated friends. “The difference is the level at which [the experts are] speaking, not the information they’re conveying,” Delbanco said.

Communicating at the appropriate level can be as simple as working an analogy into an explanation, Sandra Calvert, the director of the Children’s Digital Media Center at Georgetown University, told me. For example, in the Sesame Street–and–CNN special, when explaining why the vaccine needed to be administered in two doses, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Sanjay Gupta, pulled out an umbrella. He held it over his head only partially opened to demonstrate the protection that the first shot provided, then fully unfurled it to represent the much greater immunity conferred after dose two.

While the communication style may be different, kids’ media outlets share similar concerns as those reporting for adults. Laguerre-Wilkinson said that she relied on the same news judgment she used when working as a journalist for older audiences. She focuses on hitting major news moments and fact-checking misconceptions—because it’s not like young children can properly vet their sources. But she also considers children’s specific news needs, which can be different from what’s best for adults. For example, both Laguerre-Wilkinson and Delbanco told me that they worried about oversaturating kids with pandemic stories and re-creating the adult phenomenon of news fatigue in this younger age bracket. Laguerre-Wilkinson hoped that the short length of the programs she produced—most are about 60 seconds and air during commercial breaks between shows—would fight against this danger. Delbanco told me she has held her team back from writing too much about the pandemic. For example, though they did cover major adult-vaccine approvals, they steered clear of debates about vaccine mandates for adults.

Having a light touch can help with another major concern in kids’ news: scaring the audience. The psychologists I spoke with emphasized both that children might become afraid more easily than adults and that fear is not conducive to learning. Calvert described an ideal manner of communication that was “factual without being overly emotional, without being scary”—an attitude that matched the calm and mild-mannered smiles of the experts on the kids’ programs I watched. “COVID has just really freaked the hell out of a lot of people and killed a lot of people. But these are not terms that we ever use when talking about this,” Laguerre-Wilkinson told me. She described poring over each Nick News Break with a group of colleagues to identify moments with the potential to drive fear. “This word here is just a no-no; maybe we can tame this down a little bit,” they would say. Similarly, when Sesame Street covered the Muppets’ worries about the pandemic, the adults often avoided using specific emotion words such as fear, simply referring to “big feelings.” Hearing that figures such as Big Bird are getting their shots could provide a sense of comfort, Calvert said. Children can have parasocial relationships with fictional characters, and Big Bird is a role model for many of them. “If Big Bird does it, it will be okay; I will be okay,” the thinking can go, she told me.

Indeed, many children are scared of needles and don’t like getting shots—but going in with an understanding of the science and the purpose of vaccines can make the process easier, parents told me. Camille Mackler, the executive director of the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative, based in New York, shared that her daughter, who has a deep phobia of needles, took comfort in a song about vaccination in an old Sid the Science Kid episode about getting the flu shot. “It might hurt a little bit / just a little bit / but it’s gonna help a whole lot,” her daughter sang as they drove to the clinic and waited in line. “It was something to tell herself and say and focus on, but it also put into context why we were doing this,” Mackler told me. Phil McGonigle, a start-up account executive who lives in Long Island, had a similar experience with his 6-year-old son. The Sesame Street–and–CNN town hall declared that kids who got vaccinated were rather like superheroes for their kindness in helping those around them, and his son held on to that reassurance. When he went to get his shots, he wore a Captain America cape, which helped him feel more confident as he faced a reality that can feel scary for us all.

Con el nuevo año, los populares personajes azules más queridos vuelven a la televisión de la mano de Nickelodeon. El lunes 10 de enero a las 16:30h el canal estrena Los Pitufos, una nueva versión animada en 3D de la icónica serie basada en el cómic que Peyo (Pierre Culliford) publicó en 1958. Así, los fans del canal podrán acompañar a los memorables Papá Pitufo, Pitufina, Pitufo Filósofo y Pitufo Bromista, entre muchos más, en sus nuevas aventuras por el bosque mientras tratan de esquivar peligros como el villano Gargamel.

Azules y pequeños, con solo tres manzanas de altura, al principio puede resultar difícil distinguir a #LosPitufos. Sinopsis

Y como no podía ser de otra forma, en esta nueva versión de la serie no faltarán los malvados planes de Gargamel, el perverso brujo humano. Con la idea de capturar a los Pitufos no solo realizará un hechizo que hará que todo aquello de lo que Pitufo Gruñón se queja se haga realidad, sino que también atrapará a Pitufo Torpe, intentará intercambiar su cuerpo con Papá Pitufo y tratará de transformarse en una de las criaturas azules, entre otras malvadas ideas. Aunque, si hay algo que caracteriza a los Pitufos es el amor que se tienen los unos a los otros, por lo que entre todos unirán fuerzas para evitar que Gargamel se salga con las suyas.

Los personajes de la serie

Gargamel


Gargamel es un malvado brujo humano, impulsado por un deseo de riqueza y poder, así como por un ansia insaciable de capturar a los Pitufos. Con la ayuda de su amigo felino, Azrael, hará lo que sea necesario para encontrar hasta el último Pitufo, sin importar cuántas veces fracase en el camino.

Papá pitufo


Papá Pitufo es el Pitufo más anciano, sabio y valiente, al que todos acuden siempre. Es capaz de solucionar cualquier problema, incluso a pesar de que los Pitufos desafíen continuamente las reglas. Además, Papá Pitufo puede hacer magia y tiene un laboratorio donde crea pociones para diversos fines, a menudo para sacar a los pitufos de un aprieto.

Pitufina


Pitufina es la primera Pitufa de la aldea, es muy inteligente, valiente, curiosa, ingeniosa, siempre está a la moda y preparada para vivir nuevas aventuras. Si pudiera pedir un deseo, ese sería, sin duda, que el día tuviera más horas para poder hacer muchas más cosas. Además, si hay algo que la hace única es que posee un gran sentido del humor y un gran corazón.

Pitufo filósofo


Pitufo Filósofo se cree más inteligente de lo que realmente es, y está seguro de que es más inteligente que todos los demás. De hecho, se niega a admitir cuando se equivoca. Eso sí, además de tener una gran memoria, si hay algo que le gusta es seguir las lecciones de vida de Papá Pitufo y decir frases como: "Cuánto llovió en abril" o "Como Papá Pitufo siempre dice".

Pitufo bromista


Para Pitufo Bromista, todos los días son el Día de los Inocentes. Su lema es "¿A quién no le gusta una buena broma?". Se caracteriza por ser el payaso de la aldea, y siempre está probando nuevas bromas con arañas falsas o regalos que explotan. Eso sí, no hay nadie que le haga reír más que él mismo.

Pitufo vanidoso


Pitufo Vanidoso está orgulloso de su buen aspecto físico. Tanto es así que siempre se le puede encontrar mirándose en el espejo. Si hay algo que le encanta son los complementos de belleza: la ropa, las telas, el diseño e incluso, a menudo aconseja a los demás Pitufos sobre su estilo, aunque estos no se lo pidan.

Bebé pitufo


El Bebé Pitufo ha sido acogido por toda la aldea pitufa donde cada noche duerme en una casa diferente. Es inteligente, pero aunque sabe diferenciar el bien y el mal, siempre acaba haciendo de las suyas cuando trata de divertirse. Eso sí, es imposible enfadarse con él con esas adorables mejillas redondas y sonrisa irresistible.

Pitufo gruñón


Pitufo Gruñón se despierta todos los días con el pie izquierdo y aunque siempre está con sus compañeros Pitufos, prefiere estar solo para así maldecir todas las cosas que odia: los molinos de viento, el baile, las bromas, los picnics, etc. Aun así, si hay algo que le resulta imposible de ocultar ese es su amor por Bebé Pitufo, quien le da un poco de luz a su corazón gruñón.

Pitufa sauce


Es la líder de las chicas y la homóloga femenina de Papá Pitufo, a quien le encanta gastar bromas. Ella y el resto de nuevas Pitufas viven en su propia aldea, la Arboleda Pitufa. Pitufa Sauce es sabia, fuerte, valiente y divertida, y conoce todos los secretos de la naturaleza y las propiedades de cada planta, con las que puede comunicarse y enseñarles a crecer.

Pitufa tormenta


Pituta Tormenta es una experta tiradora, excepcional atleta, valiente como la que más y dura como el acero. Le encanta desafiar a PitufoFortachón y demostrar su fuerza y agilidad. En ocasiones no duda en dar órdenes y tomar el control. A veces puede ser un poco brusca y realizar cosas sin pensarlas, pero es extremadamente leal y protectora con sus amigos.

Nickelodeon celebra la vuelta al cole con el estreno de nuevos episodios de Kampamento Koral: Bob Esponja primeras aventuras

A partir del lunes 24 de enero a las 17:00h los niños podrán unirse a Bob Esponja y sus amigos de Fondo de Bikini en sus nuevas aventuras en el Kampamento Koral mientras juegan a juegos de mesa, cuentan historias de miedo y ¡reciben la visita de Santa Claus!

En enero, el campamento de verano más loco vuelve a abrir sus puertas para recibir a los pequeños Bob Esponja, Arenita, Patricio y Calamardo que, con solo 10 años, llegan con muchas ganas de diversión.
