'Baby Shark’s Big Show!' to Swim onto Nick Jr. UK on Monday 3rd May 2021

ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) has announced the fin-tastic news that Nick Jr. UK & Ireland will fully premiere Baby Shark’s Big Show! on Monday 3rd May 2021 at 5:15pm!


The news follows Nick Jr. UK & Ireland treating fans to an early look at the brand new animated preschool series based on the world-famous pop culture phenomenon Baby Shark with the debut of the all new Christmas special “Baby Shark’s Big Fishmas Special” ("All I want for Fishmas") in December 2020.

VCP announced the news in the January 2021 issue of Toy World Magazine:

"Baby Shark officially reigns as the No. 1 most viewed YouTube video of all time. ViacomCBS recognises the sea of opportunity with this IP and its expanding reach through the lens of content and consumer products. In May 2021, a new series, Baby Shark's Big Show, will be arriving on the Nick Jr. channel, much to the delight of pre-schoolers both here in the UK and globally. In the consumer products space, Baby Shark has achieved UK sales growth of+46% between August 2020 vs. August 2019, showing that the IP is a brand that is here to stay.

"The licensing programme for Baby Shark continues to grow, most notably with the expanded line from WowWee (via Jazwares). Clementoni will continue to build on its range, particularly the Soft Clemmy.

"Several exciting new partners are on board for spring/ summer 2021, including Ravensburger, Moose, MV Sports and John Adams. Role-play has been identified as a key opportunity for the property, fitting nicely with settings seen in the new series such as Carnivore Cove and the house where Baby Shark lives, whilst the classic IP look translates seamlessly into wooden toys; a partner to sign here is being explored. From a softlines perspective, a big focus will be on the summer shop for spring/summer 2022. As the brand skews towards a younger audience, babywear and accessories will be another key area of attention. As a result, the existing partnership with Denicci will be built on. Within CPG there's good coverage in confectionery, chocolate, cereal and baking, with additional opportunities being looked into across beverages, ice cream and ice pops, healthy eating and more."


To celebrate the launch of Baby Shark’s Big Show!, Nick Jr. has launched a fin-tastic competition in which they'll be giving away 1,000 activity packs up for grabs for new Nick Jr. Fan Club members! Prize packs will contain the following goodies:

Based on the world-famous pop culture phenomenon and co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and SmartStudy, the global entertainment company behind the beloved children’s brand Pinkfong, Baby Shark’s Big Show! (working title) is a 2D-animated series (26 half-hour episodes) that will follow Baby Shark and his best friend William as they journey on fun-filled comedic adventures in their community of Carnivore Cove, meet new friends and sing original catchy tunes along the way.

In the series premiere, "Slobber Slug," a brash young Baby Shark puts the life skills he learns from his mummy and daddy to the test in his own backyard - which just happens to be the ocean!

The 2D-animated series will feature a swim-sational lineup of actors: Kimiko Glenn (Orange is the New Black); Luke Youngblood (Glitch TechsHarry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone); Natasha Rothwell (Insecure); Eric Edelstein (Hotel for DogsPig Goat Banana CricketWe Bare Bears); Debra Wilson (MADtv); and Patrick Warburton (Tak & the Power of JujuThe X'sSeinfeldFamily Guy).

Meet the inhabitants of Carnivore Cove:

  • Baby (Glenn) – A sweet, bubbly, and abso-toothly fearless little shark who has a habit of biting off more than he can chew.
  • William (Youngblood) – A quick-witted pilot fish with a flair for the funny, William is always down for jaw-some adventures with his best bud Baby.
  • Mommy (Rothwell) – Fun-loving with a fierce streak, Mommy Shark works for the Mayor of Carnivore Cove.
  • Daddy (Edelstein) – A worrier who can’t help his loud and goofy nature, Daddy Shark is a dentist who flosses when he’s nervous.
  • Grandma (Wilson) – A new-agey prankster who’s all about good vibes and bubbleberry pies.
  • Grandpa (Warburton) – A charismatic shark who loves to tell stories about the glory days.
In addition to Nickelodeon and SmartStudy’s partnership to produce Baby Shark’s Big Show!, ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) is managing consumer products licensing worldwide, excluding China, Korea and Southeast Asia, for the Baby Shark property. 


Baby Shark launched on YouTube in November 2015 and took the world by storm, amassing 5.7 billion views and becoming the second most-watched video in the platform’s history. With music, characters, story and dance all combined together, the song recorded a 20-week-streak on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned a viral phenomenon #BabySharkChallenge, generating over one million cover videos around the globe.

Baby Shark’s Big Show! is executive produced by Gary “Doodles” DiRaffaele (Breadwinners) and Tommy Sica (Breadwinners), with Whitney Ralls (My Little Pony: Equestria Girls) serving as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif., with production overseen by Eryk Casemiro, Senior Vice President, Nickelodeon Preschool.

The iconic The Smurfs theme song gets upbeat remix in the opening titles for the brand new The Smurfs series, premiering later this year on Nickelodeon!


Based on the iconic property and in partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, The Smurfs (52 11-minute episodes across two seasons) is a brand-new original CG-animated TV series following Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy and others, on all-new adventures, packed with humor, heart and high-stakes action. The series is set to premiere on Nickelodeon in the U.S. in October 2021, and is slated to roll-out on Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks shortly after.

The series made its world debut on Ouftivi in French-speaking Belgium on Sunday 18th April 2021.

The new 3D The Smurfs series will also be made available on YouTube worldwide from Q2 2022 and will also debut on Netflix services worldwide from Q2 2023.


The Smurfs is produced by Belgium's Peyo Productions and France's Dupuis Edition & Audiovisuel. It is being directed by William Renaud (CalimeroCasper’s Scare SchoolA Kind of Magic) and written by Peter Saisselin (Sonic BoomALVINNN!!! And the Chipmunks) and Amy Serafin (Sonic BoomAlvin!!! And the Chipmunks).

In addition to the content partnership, ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) will manage consumer products licensing for The Smurfs property across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia. VCP will seek new merchandising and promotional partners in select categories and territories for The Smurfs classic brand, in addition to a new product line for the new animated series The Smurfs, spanning categories including toys, stationery, apparel and accessories, home, consumer packaged goods and more, to launch at retail in 2022.

Created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, pen name of Pierre Culliford (1928-1992), the Smurfs (French: Les Schtroumpfs) evolved from secondary comic characters in Peyo's Johan and Peewit (French: Johan et Pirlouit) comic series and spinning off into their own series the following year, in which they became the small centerpieces of the massive franchise that skyrocketed to global fame with the 1981 launch of The Smurfs (Smurfs' Adventures) Saturday morning cartoon series, which, produced by Hanna-Barbera aired new episodes on NBC until 1989, running for more than 250 episodes and several specials over nine seasons. It would eventually manifest in live-action CG-animation hybrid splendor on the big screen. The 2011 feature film of the same name and its 2013 sequel, The Smurfs 2 were produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released by Columbia Pictures. Hank Azaria and Neil Patrick Harris starred in live-action roles, with voiceovers by Anton Yelchin, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry (famously providing the voice of Smurfette), Jayma Mays, and George Lopez. A fully CG-animated standalone movie, The Smurfs: Lost Village was released in April 2017, featuring the voices of Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Ellie Kemper, Julia Roberts and Mandy Patinkin. The Smurfs have also featured in two shorts.

Nickelodeon UK to Premiere 'Hunter Street' Season 4 on Monday 19th April 2021

A brand-new mystery is in store for the Hunter family in the all-new fourth season of Hunter Street, premiering Monday 19th April 2021 at 6:30pm on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland!


Fun, laughs and action await viewers this upcoming season, which will follow the Hunter kids undercover to find and unite both new and ancient technology, discover that they are not the only kid members of ‘The Relatives’ as they had previously thought, and take on powerful enemies with grudges against the Hunters that threaten to tear the family apart. Hunter Street season four will air on Nickelodeon’s international channels in 170+ countries and territories.

Hunter Street will see returning stars Kyra Smith as the free-spirited Hunter sister Anika; Kate Bensdorp as Evie; Eliyha Altena as Oliver; Sarah Nauta as Jasmyn; Alyssa Guerrouche as Jennie; Tooske Ragas as Kate Hunter; Ronald Top as Erik Hunter; and Cystine Carreon as Oliver’s Mom, Dottie; and some new cast members to be announced.


Below is a list of currently announced Hunter Street season four airdates for Nick UK & Eire:

Monday 19th April 2021 - An Unexpected Guest: Oliver and Anika have a new mystery - figuring out who their real dad is! An unexpected guest and an invitation to summer school sends them in a different direction.

Tuesday 20th April 2021 - Babies, Bunnies and Beards: Determined to find out what's inside the toy bunny, Anika decides to accompany Jennie to the summer school, leaving Oliver to search potential dad suspects.

Wednesday 21st April 2021 - Sally Hunter: Oliver, Jasmyn and Evie head to a book signing hoping for some bio-dad names. Meanwhile 'Sally' has a difficult initiation test by Miss Lucas, putting her cover under strain.

Thursday 22nd April 2021 - Quantum Problems and Dead Ends: Jennie and Anika hit a dead end with their investigation into the bunny's holocode device, while the hunt for the twins' dad reveals a new name.

Monday 26th April 2021 - House Arrest: The Hunters struggle to free themselves from the lockdown created by Erik's security system via a series of riddles in their very own Hunter Street Escape Room adventure.

Tuesday 27th April 2021 - The Intruder: Evie struggles to convince the others there's someone else in the house, and with Erik and Kate departing, the Hunter kids are alone with a threat lurking in their midst.

Wednesday 28th April 2021 - Mind Games: Anika and Jennie try to get to the bottom of the mysterious VR headsets. Oliver, Florian and Jasmyn are in for a shock of their own when they pay a visit to Florian's house.

Thursday 29th April 2021 - Break-in: The Hunters plan a break-in at the Academy. While Anika, Jasmyn and Jennie get their spy on, the boys are set to work trying to find a potential code word to unlock the holocode.

Monday 3rd May 2021 - Relatively Speaking: The heist doesn't go as expected and the girls discover Miss Lucas's obsession. An unexpected reveal for Daniel and Evie leaves them reeling. Can Florian be trusted?

Originally announced in February 2020, production of Hunter Street season 4 was originally planned to commence in May 2020, however, the announcement was made just before the world went topsy turvy due to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Filming was then shifted to summer/autumn 2020.

Hunter Street is produced for an international audience by Blooming Media. The series was originally co-developed with the Nickelodeon Netherlands series, De Ludwigs.

The Bureau of Magical Things season two (20 episodes) continues the adventures of Kyra, a teenage girl who acquired magical powers when caught in a clash between an elf and a fairy. In this new series, when Kyra and Darra embark on a quest to find a legendary lost temple, Kyra’s orb magic accidentally awakens a dangerous object causing fairy and elf magic to malfunction. As the danger escalates, Kyra must risk everything to deal with a threat that endangers the entire magical world and brings her own identity into question.

Season two will see the show's original cast return, led by Kimie Tsukakoshi (The Family Law) as Kyra. Siblings Elizabeth Cullen and Julian Cullen (Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan) return as elf brother and sister on screen. Mia Milnes and Rainbow Wedell (Jiva) also headline as fairies. Jamie Carter plays Kyra’s human friend and now a member of ‘The Bureau’, while Arnijka Larcombe-Weate returns as Kyra’s problematic bestie oblivious to the magical world. Joining the cast in season two is Miah Madden, who will portray Tayla.

The young cast are joined by experienced actors Christopher Sommers (Sweet ToothThe Water Diviner), Nicholas Bell (Mission Impossible IIWanted), Steve Nation (Neighbours) and this season introduces Tasneem Roc (HarrowRakeReef Doctors).

The Bureau of Magical Things season two was commissioned by Network 10, German public broadcaster ZDF and ViacomCBS-owned kids’ network Nickelodeon.

Production on The Bureau of Magical Things season two commenced in February 2020, however, filming in Brisbane and the Gold Coast was halted at the end of March due to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Filming for the second season of The Bureau of Magical Things later resumed on the Gold Coast from Monday 29th June 2020.

The first season of The Bureau of Magical Things screened in over 170 territories and received the AACTA Award for Best Children’s Program in 2018.

When The Bureau of Magical Things season two was first announced in November 2019, producer Jonathan M. Shiff said, “Australian children, like children all around the world, love fantasy, mystery and adventure. It’s wonderful to build on the success of the first series with a story more magical and more epic as our young heroes seek answers to their mystery not only in Australia but across South East Asia. The extraordinarily talented Queensland cast and crew, plus the stunning local locations continue to help us to achieve the highest quality production values for a global audience.”

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, whose Government has supported the series through Screen Queensland said, “We are delighted to welcome back another season of The Bureau of Magical Things to Queensland. This production will film on the Gold Coast and Brisbane from February to June 2020 and create more than 200 jobs for cast and crew. Queensland continues to be the location of choice for major screen productions including The Bureau of Magical Things that will showcase our world-class screen industry capability and stunning locations. My government is proud to continue to support the screen industry because it creates jobs, boosts tourism and promotes our international reputation. I look forward to the next season of The Bureau of Magical Things.”

LOS ANGELES/TORONTO, March 16, 2021 – Award-winning production company, marblemedia, in association with Cloudco Entertainment, a world-class entertainment studio, received a series order for Overlord and the Underwoods™ (20×30) from CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster, Nickelodeon International, ITV, in association with BYUtv.

The original half-hour, live-action, single camera family comedy follows the Underwoods, a North American family, whose life is turned upside down when their distant cousin, Overlord, the second most-wanted villain in the universe, seeks refuge in their home after being forced into intergalactic witness protection. After snitching out his boss, the evil Mega-Lord Supreme, Overlord is sent to live with his incredibly nice, distant cousins on Planet Earth. Over the course of the series, the evil Overlord and the very sweet Underwoods discover a thing or two about each other as they learn to treasure the value of family and the importance of true friendship, diversity, and compassion.

Academy-Award winning FX expert, Roger Christian (Alien, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Episode IV A New Hope) boards the series as Character Designer. Christian was responsible for creating the props and sets for Star Wars, including the infamous lightsaber. His designs for this show will be brought to life by MastersFX and include Overlord’s helmet and costume and his animatronic, robot sidekick. The team at MastersFX is the character effects company behind hit shows The Handmaid’s Tale and The Umbrella Academy, and they will bring Christian’s designs to life in Overlord and the Underwoods.

Series overview:

Overlord and the Underwoods is a half-hour comedy about a typical North American family whose lives change drastically when a distant relative moves in. Distant in two senses, actually. Distant like, “Hey look at that! We share a tenuous connection to an ancestor who lived a long time ago.” And distant like, “Hey look at that! You live in another galaxy.” Overlord, the 2nd most wanted villain in the universe, is forced into witness protection when he rats out the 1st most wanted villain in the universe. The IGDC (Inter-Galactic Detention Centre) sends Overlord to live with his incredibly nice cousins on Earth. Since they’re family, they’re the only people in the universe willing to take him in. This series is your typical space-fish out of cosmic-water story. The Underwoods, in contrast to Overlord, are great people. Technically anyone in contrast to Overlord is a great person, but the Underwoods truly represent the best of humanity. The parents, Flower and Tim, have dedicated their lives to helping animals (because they’re adorbs). Their daughter, Peyton, is a lot like other girls her age. She keeps active on social media trying to share her voice with the world. She’s not quite certain what her voice is yet, but she’ll keep talking until she finds it. Their son, Weaver is creative, true, but he also ties himself up in expectations of perfection. And it’s crazy difficult to move forward when you’re tied up. In an odd way Overlord’s presence serves to make him a better person. And Weaver reciprocates by slowly making Overlord a slightly more compassionate being. Overlord is far from perfect, but none of the Underwoods are perfect either. As the series grows, so to do their relationships. Each episode is an opportunity for Overlord to make the Underwoods stronger individuals and for the Underwoods to make Overlord a better… overlord? I guess that works.

Updates:

Auditions are currently underway to cast Overlord and the Underwoods, including for a Male Acapella Group as well as for a recurring character named Connor, a wizard of words and can really hurl the
insults. As soon as he’s elected to be the new head of the acapella club, The Undertones, he
kicks Weaver out. Connor can really hold a grudge – and he’s held a grudge against Weaver since
they were seven years old. Connor has the voice of an angel.


An alien in witness protection coming to Mono: Marblemedia to film in Cardinal Woods

Families who watch Nickelodeon shows might just find some familiar scenery if they intend to watch an upcoming new series.

Marblemedia, an organization that has filmed in Mono prior, put forward a request to Mono council to film scenes of the new show in Cardinal Woods. The request would see filming occur on May 5, 6 and 7 at this point in time.

The show, called Overlord and the Underwoods, will be a comedy about an alien that is part of an intergalactic Witness Protection Program, who hides out in the attic of a Suburban family home.

A home on Riverside Drive has already been selected as their preferred choice for the exterior of the family’s home. The interior would be shot in their studio.

There would be multiple locations, including a scene shot on the Vicki Baron Lakeside Trail at Island Lake, but the majority of their shots will take place on Riverside Drive.

“I was doing the original scouting, took some photographs in and around Orangeville and Mono,” explained Paul Franklin, location manager for Marblemedia. “Our creative team really liked the homes on Riverside Drive. It would just be the exterior scenes, inside of the house would be in our studio.”

The production company has already been in discussion with local residents to find out whether they’d be okay with filming, but the final step of approval must go before council.

“Mono has been involved with Marblemedia a couple of times now,” said Coun. Sharon Martin. “They certainly do an excellent job. By the time they’ve left, you have no idea they’ve been there.”

One concern presented by a resident to Mayor Laura Ryan had been a matter of operation during a lockdown, should it be extended, and safety.

“At the beginning, the entire industry shut down from March to July,” explained Franklin. “Since then we have worked diligently with the Ontario government and local municipalities to create and adhere to Section 21 guidelines, which allows us to be exempt from all of the guidelines so far.”

Under the Section 21 guidelines, all provincial safety measures must be adhered to. Franklin explained that along with regular testing (the frequency of which is determined by how much contact crew has with the cast), there have been strict PPE guidelines, the company has their own COVID-19 specialist, and everything receives constant cleaning.

The motion to allow the company to film was passed unanimously. Unless any major changes come from the province, filming will occur next month.

On April 19, the Town of Orangeville announced that the production will also be filming at various locations in the area of Second Avenue, Fourth Street, and Third Avenue, as well as Idyllwilde, Rotary, Princess of Wales, and Lions Sports Parks, between April 28-May 4.

On Wednesday 21st April 2021, Belgium will be celebrating its annual Buitenspeeldag (Outdoor Play Day), and to help encourage kids to go and play outside, kids channels across the country, including Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. will be going off-air for the afternoon.

Ondanks coronacrisis toch Buitenspeeldag dit jaar: overal in Vlaanderen activiteiten

Woensdag is het weer zo ver: het is nationale Buitenspeeldag. Kinderen kunnen woensdag aan ruim 70 activiteiten deelnemen in Vlaanderen en Brussel. Maar nu is er ook iets nieuws. Wie voor 1.000 uur buiten speelt en dit aanduidt op een tracker, wordt gekroond tot een echte ‘buitenspeelheld’.
Op grote schalen samen buiten spelen, is dit jaar niet mogelijk door de coronacrisis. Maar in Vlaanderen en Brussel worden wel kleine coronaveilige activiteiten georganiseerd. En “kinderen kunnen er ook altijd zelf op uittrekken”, klinkt het.

Woensdag voor de televisie zitten is alleszins geen optie. Kinderzenders zoals Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Ketnet, Ketnet Junior, Studio 100 TV en VTM Kids zullen in de namiddag niets uitzenden.

Op de website buitenspeeldag.be kan je alle activiteiten vinden per gemeente. Daarop kunnen de kinderen ook het aantal uren bijhouden dat ze al buiten hebben gespeeld en gesport.

De Buitenspeeldag is een initiatief van de Vlaamse overheid, Kind & Samenleving, Bataljong vzw, ISB vzw (Vlaams Instituut voor Sportbeheer en Recreatiebeleid), Goe Gespeeld! en enkele tv-zenders voor kinderen. Dit jaar vindt de veertiende editie plaats.

ViacomCBS Int'l Launches Velocity UK Commercial Team

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) has announced the launch of a new UK-based commercial team.

Velocity UK, a sub-brand of ViacomCBS’s international commercial division of the same name, will be focused on leveraging VCNI’s social platforms business in the UK and act as the exclusive source for clients looking to reach audiences across its social inventory.

The media giant said that this new business will work closely with Sky Media, who will continue to handle all linear, VoD and sponsorship ad sales for ViacomCBS Networks UK and Ireland (VCN UK).

Heading up Velocity UK will be VCNI Executive Vice President (EVP) and General Manager (GM) of digital and ad sales Lee Sears. Sears will oversee the unit which will manage all digital and social inventory across VCN UK’s brands. This includes pay-TV channels Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and Comedy Central, in addition to free-to-air public service broadcaster Channel 5 and the CBS portfolio of channels.

In addition, the team will develop premium socially targeted campaigns for clients, with branded custom content partnerships that will stand alone on the network’s brand-safe social platforms or act as a compliment to on-air partnerships or events, including the upcoming Nickelodeon SlimeFest, MTV EMAs, and Channel 5’s Five on the Farm event.

The UK based team will be led by Amil Shah, who has been promoted to Vice President (VP) of International & Digital Sales and will report to Sears. Christa Thompson, Director of Digital Sales, has joined the team from Vevo UK where she led the business across a range of major media agencies and clients and will now oversee video and display inventory sales for Velocity UK. Aphrodite Kapeleris, Digital Brand Content Manager, will lead the branded content initiatives.

Sears said: “As our business continues to grow its digital and streaming priorities, we have the opportunity to meet increased demand in this space and serve different clients in new and exciting ways, enabling them to reach non-linear viewers across all demographics in an authentic way. 

“Using the scale of ViacomCBS’ brands, intricate media and local UK knowledge, Velocity UK will create and place platform-intentional content across our valuable IP, delivering targeted campaigns and providing end to end brand safe solutions for clients.”

Velocity UK will sit under the umbrella of ViacomCBS’ international commercial division, Velocity, which handles linear and digital sales across multiple markets.

The new team is currently working with a number of clients on branded content and premium buys across VCN UK’s digital and social inventory, with more details to follow soon.

ViacomCBS Launches Paramount Plus in the Nordics

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) Nordics today (March 25) launched their new and improved Paramount+ SVOD service in the Nordic region. The service will initially be available through local partner, such as Apple TV, Telia TV in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and Tele 2, Telenor and Allente in Sweden, with plans to release a direct-to-consumer Paramount+ app in April 2021.


With more than 6,000 episodes and films to be released throughout the year, Paramount+ will be home to iconic hits from across the ViacomCBS portfolio of brands and networks, including Nickelodeon, including the brand new SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years. Local productions available from launch include the first season of Ib the Dog, with season two, being produced exclusively for the premium streaming service in the Nordics region, set to arrive in summer 2021.

Unlike the North American version, the Nordic version of Paramount Plus won't carry The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, as Netflix has the international rights to the film.

Paramount+ lansert på Apple TV

Paramount tilgjengelig på Apple TV fra 25. mars

ViacomCBS annonserte denne uken at deres nye strømmetjeneste Paramount+ fra og med 25. mars kommer til å være tilgjengelig via Apple TV.

Apple TV-appen er tilgjengelig i Norden på iPhone, iPad, Apple TV iPod touch, Mac-maskiner, på utvalgte smart-TV-er fra Samsung, LG og Sony samt på PlayStation og Xbox.

Paramount+ har i lengre tid vært tilgjengelig for kunder av Telia og Telenor, men i dag skjer det altså en nylansering av tjenesten som innebærer en hel rekke nytt innhold og en opptrapping mot lanseringen av strømmetjenesten på et helt drøss plattformer i april.

«Paramount+ har posisjonert seg godt med tanke på å bli en sentral aktør blant de norske strømmetjenestene», sier Jesper Dahl, nordisk direktør for ViacomCBC.

I dag lanseres Paramount+

Den nye, internasjonale, strømmetjenesten Paramount+ ankommer Norden i dag.

Med høstens lansering av Disney+ i Norden har kampen om de attraktive strømmeabonnentene virkelig hardnet til.

Netflix har (godt hjulpet av lockdown under koronapandemien) allerede passert 200 millioner abonnenter, mens «nykommeren» Disney+ nylig passerte 100 millioner – og det på litt over ett år.

Siden 2017 har ViacomCBS hatt en strømmetjeneste i Danmark: «Paramount+», nå lanseres snart tjenesten i resten av Norden samt 20 andre land.

Den nye strømmetjenesten er tilgjengelig via Apple TV-kanalene på Apple TV-appen for første gang i Norden fra og med i dag.

Kommende Paramount+ Originals og eksklusive serier som får premiere på Paramount+ i Norden er:

The Man Who Fell to Earth med Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave og The Old Guard) i hovedrollen. Den kommende serien er basert på Walter Tevis roman med same navn og den ikoniske kultklassikeren med David Bowie. Serien vil følge en fremmed karakter som kommer til jorden ved et vendepunkt i den menneskelige evolusjonen. Han blir nødt til å konfrontere sin egen fortid for å bestemme fremtiden vår.

Paramount+ lover også lokalprodusert, nordisk, innhold på tjenesten. Men det eneste de så langt har annonsert (en dansk barneanimasjonsserie, Hunden Ib, som allerede er vist på NRK) vitner ikke akkurat om store ambisjoner på dette området. Et felt som domineres av Netflix og HBO.

Mer nordisk strømmeinnhold

Netflix har siden 2016 ledet an i dette viktige segmentet (Marseille, sesong 1), og lanserte allerede for to år siden sin første nordisk serie, The Rain (som i fjor kom med sin tredje sesong) i Danmark.

Deretter har Netflix lansert Hjem til jul, Ragnarok og Kadaver i Norge, samt Quicksand – störst av allt og  den fornøyelige Kjærlighet & anarki i Sverige. I Danmark slapp de for kun 3 uker siden den spennende serien Equinox – og har allerede annonsert den kommende Chosen.

HBO Nordic har har på sin side lansert den norske serien Beforeigners, de to svenske seriene Gösta og Bjørnstad, samt den kommende (norske) Velkommen til Utmark.

Paramount+ vil også være hjemmet til en noen av verdens største filmserier som Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones og Gudfaren-trilogien, i tillegg til eksklusive strømmepremierer på filmer som Light of My Life, Tesla, Capone, Survive the Night, Wild Rose og Escape from Pretoria.

Med lanseringen av Paramount+ vil strømmemarkedet bli enda er fragmentert, der flere og flere aktører sitter med eksklusive rettigheter på filmer og serier; det være seg nye så vel som arkivtitler.

Det store spørsmålet blir jo nå hva de små, nasjonale strømmetjenestene som TV Sumo og Viaplay i fremtiden skal tilby av innhold, om alle de store internasjonale filmselskapene trekker ut sitt innhold for å tilby det eksklusivt på sine egne strømmetjenester.

Og, er publikum virkelig villig til å abonnere på 3-5 strømmetjenester?

Ny streamingtjeneste rammer det danske marked i dag

Paramount+ sparker nu dørene op til det danske marked med et nyt streaming-univers. For 59 kroner om måneden åbnes der op for en række originale produktioner og velkendte klassikere. Men det er ikke alle, der vil kunne få adgang til tjenesten i første omgang.

Fra og med i dag får danskerne endnu en streamingtjeneste at vælge imellem.

Paramount+ slår nemlig dørene op til det danske marked.

Bag tjenesten står den amerikanske mediekoncern, ViacomCBS.

Streamingtjenesten koster 59 kroner om måneden, og indenbords finder man en ræke kendte titler samt nye produktioner.

Blandt trækplastrene findes den nye dramaserie om amerikanske præsidentfuer, "The First Lady," der er instrueret af danske Susanne Bier.

En anden original titel er The Offer. En serie, der handler om tilblivelsen af en af de største filmklassikere nogensinde, The Godfather.

Af velkendte titler findes Mission Impossible, Twin Peaks, Indiana Jones og Dexter. Målretter de små findes Svampebob Firkant og Paw Patrol.

Den nye streamingtjeneste har over 6.000 film og serieafsnit fra blandt andet filmselskabet Paramount Pictures samt TV-kanalerne CBS, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, Showtime og Smithsonian.

Til at starte med lanceres tjenesten dog ikke via en selvstændig app.

ViacomCBS skriver i en pressemeddelelse, at tjenesten i første omgang integreres direkte i Apple TV-app’en som en kanal. Dertil indgår tjenesten som bland selv-produkt hos YouSee fra i dag.

Det betyder samtidig, at Android-brugere er forment adgang til tjenesten, indtil der lanceres en selvstændig app i løbet af april måned.

Apple TV-app’en er tilgængelig i Norden på iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch og MacBooks, på udvalgte smart-TV fra Samsung, LG og Sony samt på PlayStation og Xbox, lyder det.

"Paramount+ tilbyder et bredt udvalg af indhold på tværs af alle de vigtigste genrer. I dag lanceres Paramount+ i Norden

Den nye, internationale streaming-tjeneste Paramount+ ankommer til Norden i dag.

Med efterårets lancering af Disney+ i Norden er kampen om de attraktive streaming-abonnenter virkelig spidset til.

Netflix har (godt hjulpet af lockdown under coronapandemien) allerede passeret 200 millioner abonnenter, mens den “nye” tjeneste Disney+ nærmer sig 100 millioner – og det på kun lidt over et år.

For en måned siden udvidede Disney+ udbuddet voldsomt med det nye voksensegment Star.

Som vi tidligere har fortalt, springer endnu en aktør nu på streaming-toget. Streaming-tjenesten CBS All Access relanceres som Paramount+ i USA og lanceres i Norden i dag, den 25. marts. ViacomCBS har ganske vist haft en streaming-tjeneste i Danmark under navnet Paramount+ siden 2017, men nu bliver tjenesten altså lanceret i resten af Norden samt 20 andre lande. Og den bliver lettere tilgængelig i Danmark.

Den nye streaming-tjeneste vil være tilgængelig på Apple TV-kanalen via Apple TV-app’en i Norden fra i dag. Apple TV-app’en findes på iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch og MacBooks samt smart-TV’er fra Samsung, LG og Sony. Plus spilkonsollerne PlayStation og Xbox.

Paramount+ er også tilgængelig via YouSee, Telenor og Allente (tidligere Canal Digital). I løbet af april vil tjenesten desuden blive tilgængelig via en egen app samt ParamountPlus.com på Android-mobiler, Android-TV’er og Amazon Fire TV.

Telia to offer ViacomCBS streaming service Paramount+

Telia and ViacomCBS have signed a new agreement for the distribution of Paramount+.

The streaming service will be offered to all TV customers in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Content is drawn from Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Paramount Studios.

In common with the other big streaming services, Paramount+ is also creating its own productions.

“Original content is increasingly in demand by our TV customers, so it feels absolutely fantastic that we can upload with even more entertainment from Paramount+,” says Henrik Lönnevi, head of the consumer business, Telia.

Paramount+ initially launched in the Nordics in 2017. ViacomCBS already has Com Hem and Telenor in Sweden and with Sanoma in Finland.

Paramount+ Starts Spanning The Globe As U.S. Streamers Try Not To Get Lost In Translation

After the arrival of four major new streaming services in late-2019 and early-2020, this year is when the competition is going global.

One of the newest worldwide hopefuls is a Stateside pioneer. Paramount+, the rebranded and reconceived version of CBS All Access, which launched in 2015, is boldly going where the latter service has not gone before. Like its media rivals Disney, WarnerMedia and Discovery, ViacomCBS sees transcending the U.S. as crucial to being able to replace traditional revenue with streaming as a hedge against cord-cutting. By 2024, the company expects to have 65 million to 75 million subscribers (up from 16 million for CBS All Access and Showtime’s OTT service). Total streaming revenue should hit $7 billion to $8 billion.

On March 4, the Paramount+ branding kicked in domestically. At the same time, the service also lit up in 23 other markets — 18 in Latin America, four in the Nordics as well as in Canada. Australia, New Zealand and Europe are among the other regions expected to follow with key launches later this year.

For Kelly Day, who became president of streaming and COO of ViacomCBS Networks International last year, the task is fairly straightforward. “We just look at it like this: There are seven and a half billion people outside the U.S.,” she said in an interview with Deadline. “By going into these markets, we have all this incredible opportunity to reach so many more viewers in so many different places.”

With 350 million subscription video on demand customers expected to sign up outside the U.S. by 2024, she added, “The international opportunity in streaming is massive.”

ViacomCBS hopes Pluto, which Viacom acquired in 2019 before reuniting with CBS, will be a secret weapon. The free, ad supported service saw its monthly active user base go from 1 million to 13 million in 2020. It had already been in the UK and Germany and then expanded to Latin America and Spain at the exact time when the coronavirus pandemic made free streaming more appealing than ever. This year, Pluto will arrive in France and Italy. The company estimates it will have 100 million to 120 million active users globally by 2024.

The programming mix on Paramount+ internationally will be different from the U.S. version. There will be originals like SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff Kamp Koral. In addition, the service will also add new and vintage Showtime series, CBS fare (including NCIS, a top draw for Netflix in the U.S.) and known properties like The Handmaid’s Tale and Killing Eve in some territories. Locally produced titles include Ib the Dog in the Nordics and the MTV-derived Acapulco Shore and Are You the One Brazil and upcoming originals Cecilia and The Envoys for Latin America.

Day says a tailwind for Paramount+ is the company’s history of operating globally long before streaming. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish made his reputation by working a long stretch as an international exec at Viacom, helping boost networks like Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central. The Paramount name also hitches the service’s fortunes to a name that can travel a lot more than CBS could.

“It’s an advantage for us as a company to have such a deep history with MVPDs and telco partners around the world,” Day said.

The field is not wide-open, however. Disney said last month that Disney+ has racked up more than 100 million subscribers in two dozen countries. After launching in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand in 2019, it has expanded across Asia and Europe and will be adding a number of key Latin American, European and Asian territories later this year. Having taken control of Star via the 21st Century Fox acquisition in 2019, Disney also has made Disney+ an add-on to Star’s streaming service in India and other territories and also has launched a stand-alone Star service in many territories.

HBO Max launched nearly a year ago in the U.S., but the company plans to be in 39 territories across Latin America and the Caribbean starting in June. It will also launch in Europe, but it won’t be in the UK, German or Italy until at least 2025 due to a long-term distribution deal with Sky.

Wall Street analysts came away from the February streaming presentation by ViacomCBS fairly upbeat, but the field is crowded and mounting a truly global service requires resources.

Benjamin Swinburne of Morgan Stanley last week lowered his 12-month price target on ViacomCBS shares to $50 from $55, maintaining his “equal-weight” (neutral) rating. He wrote in a note to clients that the uncertain outlook for streaming was a key factor. “Long-term, we are unsure of global Paramount+ demand and streaming earnings power,” he wrote.

Michael Nathanson of MoffettNathanson factored international presence into a recent sector analysis with the provocative title, “Is Streaming a Good Business?” In the report, he asserted that only a small handful of contenders have enough horsepower to make their global dreams come true without losing money.

“Netflix’s greatest asset – and the likely Achilles’ heel of many of their competitors – is indeed their international footprint, which should drive incremental profit and return on invested capital into the future,” he wrote. “While both the market and the press remain focused on the domestic SVOD streaming wars, the real opportunity seems to be in both the shift in ad monetization from linear to digital and the higher total available market outside the U.S. as content owners pivot from pay-TV to OTT. Aside from Netflix, Disney has already demonstrated this success as few others aside from Discovery seem to be all in around the world.”

Having expanded to 130 countries in 2016 and reaching 204 million subscribers by the end of 2020, Netflix has a few years’ head start on its newer U.S.-based competitors. Its spending on content — now approaching a staggering $20 billion a year — is a significant barrier to entry. Amazon Prime Video has been in more than 200 countries since 2016. Its willingness to shell out hundreds of millions on A-list movies and potential global blockbusters like the Lord of the Rings series will keep it very much in the chase. Apple TV+ is newest to the party among tech giants, but the company’s installed base of more than 1 billion devices enabled it to launch the service in 100 countries in November 2019.

As Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos sees it, there is still enormous upside in the global marketplace.

“There’s about a billion pay-TV households in the world, people who pay in some form for subscription television,” he said in a recent interview with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes on their Smartless podcast. “And there are more than 3 billion people with a mobile phone who watch mobile content on their phone. So, when you think about the addressable world, we’re only about 10% there.”

Gloria Wants to Know It All is an animated series developed and produced by VIS, Magnus Studios, Juan José Campanella's Mundoloco Animation Studios, and Laguno Media Inc.  Gloria Wants to Know It All, centers around an eight-year-old alpaca from the big city, whose adventure begins when she goes to spend time at her grandfather's house in Pueblo Lanugo. This small town embodies the richness of the Latin American culture where there is very much to learn. Gloria learns about her culture and the different things that make her who she is. Created by Carla Curiel, Roberto Castro, Felipe Pimiento and Gaston Gorali and written by Doreen Spicer, Maria Escobedo and Diego Labat, the series will feature the music of Marc Anthony, who will work as both Executive Producer and Executive Music Producer of the series.

These productions are the first projects to be announced as part of VIS’ exclusive First Look Deal with Magnus Studios, which was recently signed as a partnership to develop, create, and produce digital video content, original music, film, and TV productions.

UN and the Smurfs Unite to Present Joint Keynote at 2021 Brand & Licensing Innovation Summit

Joining the second tranche of speakers announced for the Brand & Licensing Innovation Summit, the keynote will headline a sustainability agenda.


Senior executives from United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) and the Smurfs are uniting to present a joint keynote at Brand & Licensing Innovation Summit (B&LIS), which takes place online from 9th-11th June.

Called ‘Why the Future will be Blue. How to Become an Agent of Change’, B&LIS attendees will hear about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of collaborations – like the one with the Smurfs – to educate people all over the world about the importance of adopting sustainable values and habits for the sake of the planet.

The keynote talk will also touch on the ActNow app, which is part of the UN’s campaign for individual action on climate change and sustainability, and its SDG Media Compact initiative, which seeks to inspire media and entertainment companies around the world to leverage their resources and creative talent to advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The ambitious goals were launched in 2015 in 149 countries with the aim of eradicating extreme poverty, combating inequalities and injustice, and effectively tackling the problem of climate change by 2030, and the Smurfs are proud ambassadors for all 17 of them. The instantly recognisable and much-loved little blue characters have been encouraging us all to ‘Think Blue’ and promoting the UN’s sustainability messaging through campaigns such as #EUBeachCleanup, ‘Save Our Blue Planet’ and the ‘Smurfs Experience’ educational package for primary school teachers and children.

“Why do we all have to change our previous bad habits?,” asked Philippe Glorieux, head of marketing, communications and family entertainment at IMPs. “Because we must be an example for the future of the planet and of our children; they are the leaders of tomorrow. For this reason, and by virtue of their common values, the Smurfs and the United Nations are joining forces through the Sustainable Development Goals to change the way we consume with the sole goal to live better.”

Caroline Petit, deputy director, United Nations Regional Information Center (UNRIC), added: “The Sustainable Development Goals are a roadmap for a better world, but we must recognise that they can only be reached in unity, with each of us doing our part.”

Caroline and Philippe will headline the CSR and sustainability agenda at 9am on 10th June, the second day of B&LIS alongside Products of Change Founder Helena Mansell-Stopher, BBC Studios Licensing Director Rikesh Desai and Natural History Museum Head of Licensing Maxine Grant, among many others.

B&LIS has been designed specifically to help middle-management, business leaders and owners to navigate the changing retail, content and consumer landscape, with day one focusing on retail and trends, and day three on content and digital transformation.
