Nickelodeon in Israel has commissioned a new young-adult drama titled Ziggy from Tel Aviv-based global content production and distribution company ADD Content (The Missing, My Guardian Angel)!

Nickelodeon’s Ziggy

Created by Shahar Segall and Oren Yaakobi, Ziggy tells the story of 16-year-old Dori, a teenager with Vitiligo (a long-term skin condition characterised by patches of the skin losing their pigment) which has impacted his confidence so much that he hides from the world. In order to fulfil his secret dream of singing and performing on stage, he invents a charismatic and talented alter ego – Ziggy – a personality who can conquer bullies and shine through the mask he adopts as his signature costume. Dori/Ziggy will be played by newcomer, Amitai Erman, who also has Vitiligo. The show follows Dori’s journey of success and his battle to keep his true identity a secret, while he falls in love, makes friends, and discovers himself.

Nickelodeon, which is distributed by pay TV platform Hot, has commissioned 40 episodes of Ziggy, which will be produced and distributed internationally by ADD Content as a format and finished series. Emil Ben Shimon directs.

In a landmark deal, ViacomCBS Networks Americas (VCNA) has inked a pact with social TV platform Twitch for the co-streaming in Latin America of Nickelodeon’s popular animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra!

Avatar: The Last Airbender

From Oct. 26 to Oct. 29, Twitch users in the region will get a chance to interact with fellow gamers as they livestream the series and add their own commentaries and spin to the episodes.

“We are always focused on exploring and developing new and innovative partnerships, and this collaboration with Twitch is a clear example of that,” said Manuel Reveiz, Vice President (VP) of content distribution management, ViacomCBS Americas.

“We look forward to seeing what engaging content Twitch’s community will be able to create with the co-streaming of these two iconic shows,” he added.

As part of the deal, Nickelodeon and MTV Latin America, VCNA channels in the region, will promote the marathon streaming event across their platforms to engage fans of the series and drive viewers to Twitch.

While Twitch declined to give penetration figures for Latin America, the livestreaming platform recorded 1.4 million average concurrent viewers worldwide in the first quarter of 2020, per Business of Apps. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and subsequent lockdowns has also spiked viewership.

Acquired by Amazon for $1 billion in August 2014, Twitch Prime (renamed Prime Gaming in the U.S.) is among the perks in the Amazon Prime subscription package. Latin America has a predominantly young population, a coveted demographic for youth-targeted platforms.

“At Twitch, we are very excited to be a place where live entertainment can flourish in many different shapes and forms. This marathon is just another way in which our community can interact with a growing ecosystem of entertainment content that now includes music, comedy, podcasts, sports and much more,’’ said Gustavo Ruiz, strategic partnerships manager for New Verticals LATAM at Twitch.

Nickelodeon alum Jamie Lynn Spears has released a brand new version of "Follow Me", the theme song of her hit Nickelodeon series, Zoey 101! The song can be listened to in the video above, as well as stream on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Google Play, Qobuz, and more.

Reimagined for old and new fans alike, the new “Follow Me,” produced by Chantel Jeffries, has an updated pop sound and slightly different lyrics that older fans will notice.

Composed by Britney Spears herself, the OG theme serves as a time capsule for us all, but especially for the sisters. “My sister was like, ‘It can’t suck,’” Spears reminisced on making the song in a Nylon interview. “She would help me sing exactly how I want to sing because she knew I could sing, but I was so shy about it for some reason. My sister pulled together this song, and then she came in the studio with me and made sure I felt comfortable. But we never actually released a version of it.” Fans know. They’ve been clobbering together cuts to imagine a full version of the track since the series concluded.

The new version of "Follow Me" comes are Spears is looking to reboot the hit Nick show. One of the ideas pitched for the reboot/revival is that it stars Spears' real life daughter Maddie as a younger version of Zoey Brooks, the character Spears played in Zoey 101.

The cast of Zoey 101 will also be hosting a reunion this October. Titled The Follow Me (Zoey 101) Experience - The Legacy Continues, the Zoey 101 virtual reunion will stream live on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at 10:00 AM PDT, and, in addition to most of the original cast, it'll feature special appearances from Chantel Jeffries, JoJo Siwa, Dixie D’Amelio, Sofia Reyes, Noah Beck, Loren Gray, Harry Jowsey, Eva Gutowski, Gigi Gorgeous and more. The cast previously reunited last year in an All That sketch that was aired earlier this summer, which also included Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks) and Kristin Herrera (Dana Cruz). In the sketch, the cast hilariously faced off against the infamous 101-year-old, bacon-loving bodyguard Thelma Stump (also played by Spears).

The cast also reunited a few months prior to the All That reunion in July last year, without Spears, who was busy filming her Netflix show Sweet Magnolias at the time.

The original series followed Zoey and her friends at Pacific Coast Academy (PCA) in Malibu, California, and ran from 2005 to 2008.

The hit Nickelodeon classic also starred Matthew Underwood as Logan Reese, Austin Butler (James Garrett), Paul Butcher (Dustin Brooks), Erin Sanders (Quinn Pensky), Victoria Justice (Lola Martinez), Christopher Massey (Michael Barret), Alexa Nikolas (Nicole Bristow), and Kristin Herrera (Dana Cruz).

Not long after it wrapped its fourth season, Spears (then 16 years old) became pregnant with her first child, daughter Maddie Briann, with then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge. Spears gave birth to her second daughter, Ivey Joan Watson in 2018, with husband Jamie Watson.

Nickelodeon will premiere Barbapapa, the brand new animated series inspired by the legendary shapeshifting Barbapapa family, in Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Österreich) and Switzerland (Schweiz) on Sunday 1st November 2020!

Nickelodeon Deutschland will air two episodes of Barbapapa back-to-back every Sunday at 09:30 and 09:55 Uhr, respectively.

Meanwhile, Nickelodeon Österreich and Nickelodeon Schweiz will launch Barbapapa by airing two episodes back-to-back, airing at 08:35 and 09:00 Uhr, respectively. Following launch, Nick AT & CH will continue to premiere three brand new episodes every Sunday, airing at 08:35, 09:00 and 09:25 Uhr.

In the German (Deutsch) dub of Barbapapa, voice actor Dennis Schmidt-Foß, best known for being the voice of Ryan Reynolds' character Wade Wilson in the German dub of Deadpool and the voice of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in Captain America, will voice Barbapapa and Christin Marquitan will voice Barbamama.

Childhood friends since the 70s, the legendary Barbapapa family is once again adding cheer and creativity to the daily lives of children in their brand new animated series. The series follows daily lives of the extraordinary blob-shaped Barbapapa family, who can morph into other forms but retain their original colors. The Barbapapa family consists of parents Barbapapa and Barbamama and their seven children: The intellectual Barbotine; the coquette Barbabelle; the powerful Barbidur; inventor Barbidul; animal lover Barbidou; artist Barbouille; and musician Barbalala; plus their pet dog, Lolita. Together, the Barbapapa's are a large, happy family!

Nickelodeon International acquired the rights to the new Barbapapa series in June 2018 with plans to air in multiple countries across the globe. The 52×11’ episode series, produced by Normaal, will air on Nick Jr. channels in the UK, Benelux, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines for both pay- and free-TV. Nick Jr. has also licensed the series for pay-TV in France, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, India, South Korea and MENA.

Developed by French animation producer and distributor Normaal in partnership with TF1, Barbapapa is written and brought to life by Alice Taylor and Thomas Taylor.

“Nickelodeon has a successful track record of supporting beloved IP and finding new audiences for it around the world,” said Layla Lewis, Senior Vice President (SVP), Global Acquisitions and Content Partnerships for Nickelodeon. “We’re thrilled to partner with Normaal to introduce the long-awaited new Barbapapa series to preschoolers.”

The beloved Barbapapa universe began in 1970, emerging from the combined talent of French-American couple Anette Tyson and Talus Taylor. The original series aired in 40+ countries, including on Nick Jr. Italia (as Barbapapà), gaining worldwide fandom. Its success was followed by the production of a second series in 1977, then a third in 1999 by Japanese producer Kodansha.



Barbapapa is distributed by FESTIVAAL distribution. The series made its world debut on TF1 in France's Tfou programming strand on Sunday 10th November 2019, locally titled Barbapapa en famille (Barbapapa with Family).

In den 1970er Jahren eroberte die Zeichentrickfamilie "Barbapapa" erst die französischen und später immer mehr Kinderzimmer in vielen anderen Ländern. Schon im Sommer 2018 wurde bekannt, dass die französische Trickschmiede Normaal und der Sender TF1 eine Neuauflage entwickeln, für die sich Viacom mit seinen internationalen Nickelodeon-Ablegern die Rechte sichern konnte. Ab dem 1. November laufen die neuen Folgen immer sonntags um 9.30 und 9.55 Uhr bei Nick. Für die deutsche Fassung konnten mit Dennis Schmidt-Foß (Synchronstimme von Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") und Chris Evans ("Captain America")) als Barbapapa und Christin Marquitan als Barbamama zwei bekannte Synchronsprecher gewonnen werden.

Im Zentrum der Neuauflage stehen erneut die birnenförmigen, einfarbigen Figuren, die jedoch ihre Form knetmassenähnlich per Verwandlungsspruch ("Ra-Ru-Rick, Barbatrick") verändern können und so zum Beispiel als Schubkarre oder Brücke dienen, womit sie anderen helfen. Zur Familie gehören neben den Eltern Barbapapa und Barbamama auch ihre insgesamt sieben Kinder, darunter die Mädchen Barbabella, Barbaletta und Barbalala sowie die Jungen Barbarix, Barbawum, Barbabo und Barbakus. Gemeinsam erleben sie viele lustige und spannende Abenteuer.

International wird die Neuauflage von Festivaal vertrieben, von der zunächst 52 Episoden à elf Minuten bestellt wurden. Zum Leben erweckt werden die Figuren von Alice und Thomas Taylor, die auch für die einzelnen Geschichten verantwortlich zeichnen. Erfreulich: Im Gegensatz zu einigen Neufassungen, etwa von "Die Biene Maja", "Heidi" oder "Wickie und die starken Männer", verzichtete man komplett auf CGI-Elemente und produzierte in klassischem 2D.

Die Originalversion von "Barbapapa" wurde 1970 in Paris von der französischen Architekturstudentin Annette Tison und dem amerikanischen Biologielehrer Talus Taylor entwickelt - erst als Kinderbücher, die in über 30 Sprachen übersetzt wurden, dann als Trickserie. Diese lief hierzulande erstmals 1974 und dann lange Jahre im ZDF, letztmals war sie im Free-TV 2009 bel RTL zu sehen. Zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum der Fernsehserie entstand im Jahr 1999 das 50-teilige neue Format  "Um die Welt mit Barbapapa", das jedoch nicht an den Erfolg des Originals heranreichte.

Nick News Mini: Those hoping to see Walmart stock 'Nickelodeon Slime Sauce' again in the future may be out of luck.

Launched exclusively at Walmart during summer 2018, 'Nickelodeon Slime Sauce' was essentially green ketchup (tomato sauce), and allowed fans of Nickelodeon's iconic green slime to add the green semi-viscous substance their dinners.

Unfortunately, according to Renee Hicks, director of private brands at The Fremont Company in Fremont, Ohio, 'Nickelodeon Slime Sauce' wasn't a best-seller. “It did not sell well at all,” Hicks recalled to Store Brands.

Thankfully, the poor sales of 'Nickelodeon Slime Sauce' didn't put Walmart off from launching frozen Nickelodeon Slime treats the following summer!

Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures once planned to produce a movie and TV series inspired by the paranormal-themed Ectokid comic book series!

Created by Clive Barker, best known for his horror work like Hellraiser and Nightbreed, as one of four series set in the "Barkerverse" for Marvel Comics under the Razorline imprint. Ectokid was a series about Dexter Mungo, the 14-year-old son of a mortal and a ghost who is able to see and interact with the dangerous, interdimensional Ectosphere.

Ectokid lasted just nine issues, being published between Sept. 1993 – May 1994 before being discontinued with the rest of the Razorline titles.

After the cancellation of Razorline, Barker sold the television and film rights to Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures in 2001. The film was set to have Barker, Don Murphy, and Nickelodeon's Albie Hecht and Julia Pistor as producers, Joe Daley as executive producer, and Karen Rosenfelt overseeing development at Paramount. Barker would also act as executive producer of the television series, with Daley and Murphy as producers. Talking to Daily Variety, Barker explained that his aim was to create "a franchisable world" for the studio, "of great, transcendent beauty; one that reconfigures people's expectations of what ghosts are, of what comes after death."

Unfortunately, plans for the movie and TV series fell through, so fans never got to see Ectokid on the big - or small screen.

However, although Nickelodeon never moved past the planning stages, Barker recently said that a new second attempt at bringing Ectokid to TV is in the works.

In the series premiere of Unleashed, "Scary Chickens, Rat Tricks & Dog Treats – Oh My!," a chihuahua treasure-hunter, a group of rats take on the open seas and a chicken conquers a haunted obstacle course. Gabriel Iglesias hosts and featuring judges Peyton List, Preacher Lawson and Utkarsh Ambudkar. (#102)

From the backyard to the big stage, the search is on for America’s most entertaining pets in Nickelodeon’s all-new comedic competition show, Unleashed (10 episodes).  Hosted by superstar comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, the series brings the most impressive animal acts together to compete on stage in front of a jury comprised of kids and celebrity judges Peyton List (Cobra Kai), Preacher Lawson (America’s Got Talent, Connecting) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Brittany Runs a Marathon, Free Guy) for the title of “Most Entertaining Pet” of the night.
