'SpongeBob SquarePants' the Most In-Demand TV Show for Week Ending September 19

SpongeBob SquarePants was once again the most in-demand TV series for the week of Sunday, September 13 - Saturday, September 19, 2020, according to Parrot Analytics.


ViacomCBS recently added 11 seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants to CBS All Access (soon to be renamed Paramount+). The series will be joined by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, which is foregoing its theatrical release due to the on-going COVID-19 (coronavirus) and heading straight to digital during early 2021, along with spin-off Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years. Internationally, the film will bow on Netflix.

Magdalena Zdunikowska Departs ViacomCBS Networks

Magdalena Zdunikowska has left her role of director of Kids and Youth Brands at ViacomCBS Networks, ViacomCBS Networks Poland has announced. Zdunikowska departed the company at the end of July, said Agnieszka Odachowska, PR Manager, ViacomCBS.


Based in Warsaw, Zdunikowska was responsible for programming and marketing of ViacomCBS' kids and youth brands, including Nickelodeon and MTV in Central and Eastern Europe. She joined the company in 2010.

Zdunikowska's post is not expected to be filled, instead, her duties are expected to be shared across a team.

Zdunikowska joined the company (then MTV Networks Polska) at the end of 2010 as a programming strategy manager. Later, she became the head of the Viva Polska programming team, working her way up to marketing director. She took up the position of Director of Kids & Youth brands in 2016. Previously, she worked at Saatchi & Saatchi, McCann Erickson and DDB Warsaw.

Nickelodeon Benelux to Premiere 'Creator Camp' on Monday 26th October 2020

Nickelodeon Benelux (BLX) will premiere Creator Camp, a brand new Dutch language series, on Monday 26th October 2020! Produced by NewBe (De Grote Slijmfilm, Nickelodeon's Knotsgekke Kerstvakantie). Creator Camp revolves around five talented students who are admitted to an exclusive talent camp where they'll learn everything from social media to singing, dancing, crafting, acting, editing and composing.


The young students stay on the site for the entire holiday and work on their online skills. The group will work together on assignments and spend a lot of time together. However, this also creates challenges: do they become friends or do they differ too much from each other?

In Creator Camp we follow Felice, Saar, Zef, Asha and Cas. They have been admitted to the exclusive camp and all five have a different talent that they want to develop whilst staying at the camp. Dyanthe Willems, leader of the camp, together with her team of professionals, will prepare the talented youngsters to become digital creators. She will be assisted in this by several well-known faces who will provide guest lessons at the camp, such as well-known influencers, singers and more.

In addition to the challenges of the camp, the five talents also have to deal with the wayward daughter of the owner of the site. Vicky, who is played by Bibi, is incredibly creative and talented, but her father, played by Edo Brunner, does not allow her to participate in the camp. However, Vicky wants to do her best to convince him of her talent. Is this going to work for her? And what else do the other five talents experience at the camp? Creator Camp will air Mondays to Thursdays at 19:30 uur on Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) and Nickelodeon Flanders (Vlaanderen) starting Monday 26th October 2020.

The series will also extend to online with Camp Stories. In Creator Camp, viewers will see the six talents during their classes and challenges at the camp, but what happens outside of the TV broadcasts? Via the online series Camp Stories, fans can follow the main characters from Creator Camp in 18 separate, stand-alone episodes that can only be viewed online. Felice, Saar, Zef, Asha, Cas and Vicky will give a unique and intimate look behind the scenes of the Creator Camp through videos.

In related news, Nickelodeon fans in the Netherlands can now play Nickelodeon games featuring their favourite Nick characters in Talpa's brand new subscription gaming service, Playtime!

In Creator Camp zien we de zes talenten voornamelijk tijdens hun lessen en uitdagingen op het kamp, maar wat gebeurt er buiten de tv-uitzendingen om? Via de online serie Camp Stories volgen we de hoofdpersonen uit Creator Camp in 18 losse, op zichzelf staande afleveringen die alleen online te bekijken zijn. Datametrex Receives Third COVID-19 Order from TV Production Company


Toronto, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - September 21, 2020) -  Datametrex AI Limited (TSXV: DM) (FSE: D4G) (OTC Pink: DTMXF) (the "Company" or "Datametrex") is pleased to announce that it has received a third Purchase Order ("P.O.") for COVID-19 screening solutions from Are You Afraid of the Dark Inc., a Canadian horror anthology television miniseries based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The miniseries is produced by Nickelodeon Productions and distributed by MTV Networks in the United States and YTV in Canada, a Corus Entertainment company. Nickelodeon, now in its 41st year, is the number one entertainment brand for kids. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom Inc.

The initial P.O. is for approximately $210,000 for a month, commencing on October 5, 2020. This production is scheduled to run for three (3) months, totalling $630,000. Datametrex anticipates that it will have little or no upfront costs associated with importing and selling these test kits.

As previously stated, Vancouver is the third-largest production centre in North America, worth CDN $3.2 Billion during 2018/19, according to Creative BC. British Columbia is home to several world-class Film and TV studios, including Bridge Studios, Mammoth Studios, Vancouver Film Studios, North Shore Studios, Ironwood Studios, Canadian Motion Picture Park, and The Crossing Studios.

Entire film and TV production in Canada represent $8.92 Billion in production volume, and full-time equivalent jobs represent 179,000 workers. In March 2020, the industry stopped worldwide, including in Vancouver, which represents 37% of Canadian Productions. The surrounding areas of Vancouver had 46 productions filming, which does not include the TV commercial market. Each of the shows potentially had a minimum of 100 people in their film crew.1

The next largest film and television market is Ontario, which represents 34% of Canadian productions. In 2019, Toronto's film and television industry directly employed more than 28,000 people representing $3.17 Billion in production volume.

Additionally, with Canada having far fewer cases of COVID-19 than in the United States on a per capita basis according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, it demonstrates that Canada is a safer jurisdiction for filming and an advocate for the film industry, with our testing kits, collection services and labs already set up.

Funko has announced the phan-tastic news that they'll be releasing a vinyl figure based on Nickelodeon's resident Ghostbuster Danny Phantom for New York Comic Con 2020!

Funko's Danny Phantom Pop! Figure depicts Danny Fenton in his ghostly alter-ego, Danny Phantom, complete with his snow white hair and glowing green eyes and holding some ectoplasm, and will be made available in a limited quality as a NYCC 2020 Exclusive.

New York Comic Con 2020 was supposed to take place on October 8th through the 11th of this year. Just like previous conventions that have been canceled (Emerald City, WonderExpo, San Diego), Funko will be having replacing NYCC with Virtual Con 4.0. Just like San Diego Comic Con, these will all be released on the Funko-Shop in one big online event. Most of these Pops will be getting shared exclusives that will hit the usual chain of retailers like GameStop, Walmart, Target, Hot Topic, and more. Basing everything off the last online event, the Funko-Shop will have a 50/50 chance of getting your hands on an official NYCC sticker. Fans will be able to find them here when the event takes place which still has yet to be determined. The shared exclusives list also has not been released but we should see it by the end of the week. Stay tuned for new Nickelodeon NYCC 2020 Funko reveals as they release in the coming days.

The Astronauts | Going On An Alien Hunt Trailer | Nickelodeon


The crew are going on an alien hunt, and they're not scared!.. well, maybe a little bit scared.

The countdown continues. 5 kids accidentally rocket themselves into space. How will their journey end? Find out when The Astronauts launches soon on Nickelodeon.

In Nickelodeon's new action-adventure series, The Astronauts, the spaceship Odyssey II is set to launch to investigate a mysterious asteroid passing by Earth. When group of kids use their parent’s security clearance to sneak onto the empty ship, the launch sequence is accidentally initiated. Blasting off into space with no proper training, a malfunctioning onboard AI system, and their parents watching from Earth, the kids embark on a journey of survival using only their smarts and friendship as tools.

Starring in the new show (executive produced by Imagine Entertainment Chairmen Brian Grazer and Ron Howard and Imagine Kids+Family President Stephanie Sperber) are Miya Cech, Bryce Gheisar, Keith L. Williams, Kayden Grace Swan, Ben Daon and Paige Howard.

In The Astronauts, the group traveling together through space are: Samantha “Samy” Sawyer-Wei, played by Miya Cech (Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Always Be My Maybe); Elliott Combs, played by Bryce Gheisar (Wonder, A Dog’s Purpose); Martin Taylor, played by Keith L. Williams (Good Boys, The Last Man on Earth); Doria Taylor, played by Kayden Grace Swan (A Black Lady Sketch Show); and Will Rivers, played by Ben Daon (Child’s Play). Matilda, the ship’s onboard AI system is voiced by Paige Howard (The Employer, Adventureland).

'The Legend of Korra' Becomes Most Watched Show on Netflix

The Legend of Korra has followed in the footsteps of its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender by instantly becoming the most popular title on Netflix in the U.S., according to the streaming service’s public ranking system!


Netflix added all four seasons of The Legend of Korra to its programming library in the early hours of Friday, August 14, and follows the streamer adding Avatar: The Last Airbender in mid-May, where it also became the Number 1 title on the service within day, and going on to smashed the record for being on Netflix’s daily Top 10 lists the most amount of times in a row.

Created and executive produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the epic story of The Legend of Korra, set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender 70 years later, follows the journey of Avatar Korra, a 17-year-old girl striving to live up to the legacy of her predecessor Avatar Aang, while using her mastery of all four elements to confront political and spiritual unrest in a modernizing world.

Launched in April 2012, Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra ran for 52 episodes over four seasons ("Books"). Its first season premiered as basic cable’s number one kid’s show and drew 3.8 million viewers per episode, the highest for an animated series that year.

The series is translated in more than 25 languages for Nickelodeon branded channels internationally. The property has translated into a successful ongoing graphic novel series written by TV series co-creator DiMartino. The first graphic novel storyline, Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, has captured various Top 10 sales spots across children’s fiction, YA science fiction, and graphic novel categories since its debut in 2017.

The news comes as fans were dealt a massive blow last week when Avatar co-creators DiMartino and Konietzko revealed that they had departed Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Although they didn't explicitly cite "creative differences" in their announcements, it seems like that was the reason that they left the production, which is still going ahead.

‘Lucifer’, Which Found Second Life On Netflix, Tops Nielsen Streaming Rankings

Lucifer, which was canceled by Fox two years ago and then given a second life by Netflix, has come out on top of Nielsen’s latest streaming rankings.

The show outdid Nickelodeon animated series The Legend of Korra, which streams on Netflix, logging just shy of 1.6 billion minutes of viewing in the U.S. from August 17-23.

As has been the case since Nielsen debuted the streaming rankings last month, all 10 top titles are on Netflix. Disney+ and Hulu have been added to the consideration set as of this week. Amazon programming is also tracked by Nielsen, which measures only the U.S. and therefore can’t definitively gauge performance across global platforms.

Directionally, though, the data is noteworthy. The August 17-23 data also shows more of a mix between library fare and newer originals.

One popular original is The Umbrella Academy, whose second season debuted in July, finished No. 3 for the week with about 1.09 billion minutes of viewing. Project Power, a Netflix original movie starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, finished No. 7 with 761 million. Teenage Bounty Hunters, an original comedy drama that debuted August 14, took the No. 10 spot.

Nielsen: Netflix Dominates Weekly SVOD Top 10 Chart

Driven by a mix of original and third-party licensed content, Netflix swept all 10 spots on Nielsen’s weekly SVOD programming chart from Aug. 17-23. The TV rating guru earlier this month began publishing a weekly Top 10 chart of most-streamed SVOD programming from just Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It now also includes Disney+ and Hulu.

Netflix is led by “Lucifer,” the former Fox television series that found a second home on the SVOD pioneer. It bumped “The Umbrella Academy” into the No. 3 spot with nearly 1.6 billion minutes consumed over 75 episodes. The “Academy” has tracked about 1 billion minutes streamed over 20 episodes.

In the No. 2 spot was “The Legend of Korra,” (1.28 billion minutes over 52 episodes) an animated television series originally created for Nickelodeon in 2012. The next three spots were held by reruns of “The Office,” “Shameless” and “Greys Anatomy,” which tracked 928 minutes, 802 minutes and 764 minutes, respectively, across a combined 2,494 episodes.

In the seventh spot was Project Power (761 minutes), an original action/sci-fi/fantasy film starring Jamie Foxx as an ex-soldier, who mingles with a cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and teen (Dominique Fishback), in New Orleans to hunt for the source behind a dangerous new pill that grants users temporary superpowers.

The movie was followed by reruns of “Criminal Minds” (713 minutes/277 episodes) and “NCIS” (533 minutes/353 episodes) and “Teenage Bounty Hunters” (422 minutes/10 episodes), is a teen comedy-drama series created by Kathleen Jordan that premiered on Netflix on Aug. 14.

The Future of the Mega-Popular ‘Avatar’ Franchise Is a Corporate Minefield

Fans were understandably upset last month when original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko departed Netflix’s planned live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender over creative differences. In an open letter penned by DiMartino, however, he did write that they will continue to be involved in the Avatar universe, leaving the door open for rampant speculation and excitement among the growing fanbase.

Since the series and its sequel, The Legend of Korra, premiered on ViacomCBS’ Nickelodeon in 2005 and 2012, respectively, the animated franchise has become one of the most beloved TV creations in recent memory. But with Netflix knocked back to square one two years after first announcing the live-action series, the future of the franchise remains unclear. Unfortunately for fans clamoring for ViacomCBS to reclaim the rights and give it back to DiMartino and Konietzko, that doesn’t appear to be a realistic option.

“There is no obvious recourse,” Matthew V. Wilson, partner and co-chair of the Sports and Entertainment team at Arnall Golden Gregory LLP, where he specializes in entertainment law, told Observer. “My assumption is that Netflix acquired the exclusive right to create the adaptation coupled with a long-term right to monetize it. The precise scope of those rights is unclear, but I can’t imagine that Netflix would invest in the property without securing long-term exclusivity in distribution.”

The contemporary Netflix business model focuses on content creation and ownership, Wilson explained. While the original creators and owners likely retained a contractual right to participate, collaborate and/or consult with Netflix on its development, it’s safe to assume that Netflix possessed the final word on all creative decisions. That’s crucial, as the animated Avatar franchise has grown into one of Hollywood’s hottest pieces of intellectual property.

Reelgood—a streaming aggregator that tracks every TV show and movie available online for its 2 million-plus U.S. users—found that both The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra rank among the top 100 most-watched TV shows weekly, starting a month before they respectively were added to Netflix. Both titles earned a massive surge in popularity and streams once they were added to Netflix’s catalog.



This is backed up by data from Parrot Analytics, a data firm that tracks TV popularity through social media, fan ratings and piracy to figure out who’s watching what. According to their data, The Last Airbender is the 63rd most in-demand digital series in the world over the last 60 days and Netflix’s fourth most in-demand title in the U.S. during that span. Over the last 30 days, The Legend of Korra is the 95th most in-demand digital title worldwide and Netflix’s seventh most in-demand title in the U.S. No matter which way you slice it, the two series are among the most popular both domestically and globally. This is particularly valuable for the future of Korra, which may have more corporate leeway than its sibling series.

“It seems that Korra is currently available on Netflix (and Amazon, Nick and ViacomCBS), which means the owners of the property granted non-exclusive licenses to multiple channels,” Wilson said. “I would imagine that also means that no such adaptation (derivative creation) right was granted to any third parties. So, presumably, Viacom retains the right to make a live-action adaptation.”

ViacomCBS plans to relaunch CBS All Access as super service Paramount+ in 2021 to directly compete with Netflix. In doing so, it would make sense for the company to retain as much of its popular IP as possible. A live-action adaptation or animated sequel to Korra is an obvious move to create attractive exclusive programming for the rebranded streamer. But each of those Avatar fans that Netflix and its 180 million-plus subscribers creates is a potential new ViacomCBS customer down the road. That’s the short-term play at least as ViacomCBS continues to bank lucrative licensing agreements with third parties. But long-term considerations in this age of fragmented SVOD competition will likely result in media silos keeping its coveted titles in-house, similar to how Marvel and Netflix dissolved their collaborative relationship in recent years.

“I would expect ViacomCBS will (1) not renew those third-party agreements after the existing terms expire, and (2) certainly not enter into new deals similar to the existing Netflix deal, which involve exclusivity and/or the right to make sequels, adaptations or other derivative properties,” Wilson said. “At least with respect to ViacomCBS (or any other property owner with its own distribution channel), Netflix will no longer have the leverage to demand the ‘enlarged scope’ deals of a few years ago.”

Kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Young Dylan will join the Nickelodeon family with the brand-new live-action series, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, premiering Monday 28th September 2020 at 17:00 on Nickelodeon Denmark (Danmark), Nickelodeon Sweden (Sverige) and Nickelodeon Norway (Norge).

Executive produced, directed and written by Perry, the series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced. Michelle Sneed is also an executive producer, with Will Areu and Mark E. Swinton serving as producers. The series wrapped its first season on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Ga.

In Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, Dylan’s grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) realizes that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman) and their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). Suddenly, the Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins. From Dylan giving Charlie, Rebecca, and her best friend Bethany (Jet Miller), lessons in “swag” and street smarts, to learning that even rappers have rules in the Wilson house, the series follows the hilarious hijinks this family faces as they try to get on the same beat.

In the series premiere of Young Dylan, "Imaginary Friends", Young Dylan arrives at his relatives’ home needing a place to live, but his streetwise swagger upends the conservative Wilson household. (#101)

Nickelodeon’s partnership with Perry is part of his long-term pact with ViacomCBS, producing original series for BET Networks (The Oval and Sistas) and other ViacomCBS networks, with exclusive licensing rights on this programming. Additionally, Perry recently announced his joint venture with BET Networks for the new streaming video on demand service BET+. Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan marks Perry’s first kids’ scripted series.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Md., Gilmer is known for his many appearances and performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at NBA All-Star Weekend. Gilmer has an overall talent deal with Telepictures, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television, and has previously guest starred on the revival of Nickelodeon’s hit series All That.

Gilmer is represented by Sherry Kayne of The Green Room and Chris Abramson at Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

The production of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Brian Banks serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.
