Renford Reject Martin Delaney Shares His Advise on How Parents Can Best Support Their Children Who Want to Work in the Arts

The theatre industry can be a tough one to crack, particularly for those starting out. Most parents whose children tell them they want to perform will have two burning ambitions of their own: to support them in following their passion, but also to avoid potential pitfalls along the way. Here are some key tips and reminders to help parents achieve both those aims. In a recent article in The Stage, Renford Rejects star Martin Delaney gave his advice on how parents of children who aspire to be actors can best support their kids.


Having graduated from West End productions of Oliver! and Peter Pan, and fondly remembered as the chip-loving Jason Summerbee in Nickelodeon UK's hit comedy Renford Rejects, to more adult roles on prime time TV and films such as Zero Dark Thirty, Martin has successfully made the transition from child to adult actor.

His advice to parents who would like to give their own children the same chance? To keep it real. “Let them be themselves. There’s nothing worse than pushy parents who want their child to be a certain way. Let them practise, let them play, let them learn. It’s important that any young actor brings whatever they have inside them. That authenticity will take them where they want to go.”

Immersive PAW Patrol? A Nickelodeon Adventure Park Has Opened At Lakeside


A new indoor play park has opened at Lakeside in Essex, bringing many Nickelodeon favourites to life.

If you've got kids, then chances are they're into at least one of the Nickelodeon shows, which are shown on FIVE, as well as streaming services. Nickelodeon owns PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer, Shimmer and Shine, SpongeBob SquarePants and many other undisputed masterpieces of the televisual arts.

These much-loved characters are now holding court at Lakeside shopping centre, just outside the M25 in Thurrock.


Chase is on the case... and much bigger in real life than on our screens.

Nickelodeon Adventure is divided into four zones, which sound either enormously good fun or a bit weird, depending on your attitude to such things:

"Each zone offers engaging activities, from “fulfilling your destiny” alongside the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the sewers of NYC, to gaining a captain’s license at Mrs. Puff’s Boating School in Bikini Bottom, or completing a secret mission with PAW Patrol’s Skye and pals."

Nickelodeon Adventure at intu Lakeside has now opened

SATURDAY saw the official opening of children’s indoor adventure experience Nickelodeon Adventure, within a new leisure development at intu Lakeside, Thurrock.


Part of the 175,000 sq ft leisure-led extension to the popular shopping destination, the 2,000 capacity Nickelodeon Adventure Park is the product of a multi-million-pound investment from Spanish operator Parques Reunidos.


The first of its kind in the U.K., Nickelodeon Adventure encapsulates an indoor space of over 50,000 square feet.
The park is built around four themed play zones, each of which features key characters from the Nickelodeon portfolio, including PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob SquarePants.


A 4D cinema, private hire party suites, costume characters, café and gift store complete the park, creating the perfect Nickelodeon-themed day out for families to enjoy.


It is one of four major leisure anchors within intu Lakeside’s £72 million development which also features a number of food and drink brands. Intu transformed two former car parks into the new area which overlooks intu Lakeside’s 22-acre lake as well as a 7,000 sq ft public realm space.

Celebrity mum Frankie Bridge, and The Mummy Diaries favourites Sam and Billie Faiers enjoyed the exclusive launch with their families, alongside parenting influencer, business and industry stakeholders. The attraction then welcomed annual tickets holders and general public.


intu Lakeside was recently named a top-10 shopping centre by data analytics company GlobalData according to research it carried out taking into account the requirements of both tenants and shoppers. The shopping destination ranked 5 from a list of 50 centres, alongside nine other intu shopping centres in the top 20.

Nickelodeon UK & Ireland will be adding some magic to the New Year with Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street, premiering this January! In the brand new U.S. live-action family television series, life is anything but normal for Gortimer and his two best friends, Ranger and Mel, as they navigate Normal Street - an ordinary suburb that has a hint of something magical just beneath the surface! Nick UK & Eire will launch Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal St on Monday 24th February 2020 at 6:30pm. Following its debut, Nick will conjure up new episodes weekdays at 6:30pm. Each all new episode will encore the following weekday at 8:30am and 12:30pm.

Update (14/1) - Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has made a last minute schedule change, and won't be premiering Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street on Monday 27th January 2020. A rescheduled premiere date has yet to be announced.


Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street follows Gortimer and his two best friends, Ranger and Mel, on magical exploits triggered by their thirst for adventure. Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil), through its Consumer Products department, has partnered with pet accessory specialist Zee.Dog to launch two brand new pet accessory lines inspired by hit properties SpongeBob SquarePants and retro '80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!


Both lines feature brightly coloured leashes, collars (for dogs and cats (under the Zee.Cat brand)), harnesses, bows and chew toys featuring SpongeBob SquarePants & his BFF Patrick Star and the Heroes in a Half Shell. BURBANK, Calif.--Nickelodeon is taking the misadventures of Big Nate from page to screen with an all-new animated TV series based on the best-selling children’s books written and drawn by acclaimed author and cartoonist Lincoln Peirce. The eponymous 26-episode series follows Nate, a precocious 11-year-old boy, and his best friends as they navigate sixth grade with humor and style. Big Nate will be produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank, Calif.

“Big Nate is a book title I've wanted to translate into a series for a long time, and I am so happy this awesome, super-funny character is coming to Nickelodeon," said Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President, Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon. “All of creator Lincoln Peirce's slightly unruly, but entirely relatable characters share Nick’s same creative DNA, and we can't wait for them to join our amazing family!"

The TV series will feature brand-new original storylines centered on Nate and his mischievous shenanigans that usually result in disaster, detention or both. Whether trying to convince everyone that their school is haunted to get out of a test, or accidentally setting the pet iguana free in the school’s air ducts, Nate and his friends cause trouble everywhere--and must keep their cool before they get caught.

“With the greenlight of this show, Nate is getting one step closer to achieving true awesomeness,” said Peirce. “I am thrilled to be collaborating with Nickelodeon on new adventures for this unlikely sixth-grade hero.”

Nowak (Henry Danger, Sam & Cat), the new series stars two of the most beloved characters from Henry Danger, “Ray/Captain Man” (Cooper Barnes) and “Schwoz” (Michael D. In Danger Force, four kids--Chapa (Havan Flores), Miles (Terrence Little Gardenhigh), Mika (Dana Heath) and Bose (Luca Luhan)--are recruited to attend Swellview Academy for the Gifted (SW.A.G. for short), a school conceived by Captain Man and brought to life by Schwoz, after having been accidentally mutated in the fight to save Swellview. While there, the kids must learn to harness their frequently troublesome and sometimes uncontrollable superpowers as they begin to fight crime. Despite the dangerous circumstances of their new lives, the superheroes must keep their real identities a secret from both from their families and the villains who are out to destroy them.

Danger Force’s four brand-new superheroes-in-training will be introduced in the final episodes of Henry Danger, currently premiering Saturdays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Henry Danger is Nick’s longest running live-action sitcom, with 128 episodes across five seasons. For 2019 and year to date, the series is the number-one show for Kids 6-11 on all TV.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 24, kids will be able to familiarize themselves with the new Danger Force characters through the Nickelodeon Screens Up app and at JoinDangerForce.com with special games, trivia, galleries and more. BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon is bringing the original SpongeBob SquarePants voice cast to Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, the brand-new animated spinoff of the beloved hit series. Premiering this July, the CG-animated prequel (13 episodes) follows 10-year-old SpongeBob during his summer at sleepaway camp and stars Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), all of whom are reprising their iconic roles in this new series.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years will also feature returning SpongeBob SquarePants voice cast members Mary Jo Catlett (Mrs. Puff), Jill Talley (Karen) and Lori Alan (Pearl), among others. Additionally, Carlos Alazraqui (The Casagrandes) and Kate Higgins (Blaze and the Monster Machines) will join the cast as new characters Nobby and Narlene, narwhal siblings who live in the woods surrounding the camp.

In the new series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.

Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) serve as co-executive producers on Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, which is produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank.

In The Loud House: A Very Loud Christmas!, Lincoln is gearing up for the ultimate Christmas, until he finds out that most of his sisters have plans to be elsewhere for the big day. Determined to remind his family that they all need to be together, Lincoln and his best friend Clyde embark on a mission to sabotage their plans and preserve the family’s holiday traditions.

The live-action television film is written by Liz Maccie (Siren) and executive produced by Michael Rubiner (The Loud House).

The Loud House animated series was recently greenlit for a fifth season and brand-new episodes are continuing to air on Nickelodeon. The series also won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Animated Series and Outstanding Writing for an Animated Program in 2018.

The Loud House debuted May 2016 on Nickelodeon and centers on 11-year-old Lincoln Loud and his ten sisters as he gives an inside look at what it takes to survive the chaos of a huge family. Marking Nickelodeon’s first production with Imagine Kids+Family, The Astronauts (10 episodes) is currently in production in Vancouver, Canada, with a premiere slated for this summer.

In The Astronauts, the spaceship Odyssey II is set to launch to investigate a mysterious asteroid passing by Earth. A group of kids who gathered to watch the lift-off sneak onto the empty ship with their parent’s security clearance before the event, and accidentally initiate the launch sequence. Blasting off into space with no proper training, a malfunctioning onboard AI system, and their parents watching from Earth, the kids embark on a journey of survival using only their smarts and friendship as tools.

The group traveling together through space are: Samantha “Samy” Sawyer-Wei, played by Miya Cech (Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Always Be My Maybe); Elliott Combs, played by Bryce Gheisar (Wonder, A Dog’s Purpose); Martin Taylor, played by Keith L. Williams (Good Boys, The Last Man on Earth); Doria Taylor, played by Kayden Grace Swan (A Black Lady Sketch Show); and Will Rivers, played by Ben Daon (Child’s Play). Matilda, the ship’s onboard AI system is voiced by Paige Howard (The Employer, Adventureland).

The Astronauts is executive produced by Imagine Entertainment Chairmen Brian Grazer and Ron Howard and Imagine Kids+Family President Stephanie Sperber. Executive producer Daniel Knauf (Carnivàle, The Blacklist) also serves as writer and showrunner. HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--Feb. 19, 2020--Kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Young Dylan will join the Nickelodeon family with the premiere of the brand-new live-action series, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 8:30 (ET/PT). Executive produced, directed and written by Perry, the series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced. Michelle Sneed is also an executive producer, with Will Areu and Mark E. Swinton serving as producers. The series is currently in production at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Ga.

In Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, Dylan’s grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) realizes that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman) and their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). Suddenly, the Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins. From Dylan giving Charlie, Rebecca, and her best friend Bethany (Jet Miller), lessons in “swag” and street smarts, to learning that even rappers have rules in the Wilson house, the series follows the hilarious hijinks this family faces as they try to get on the same beat.


Nickelodeon’s partnership with Perry is part of his long-term pact with ViacomCBS, producing original series for BET Networks (The Oval and Sistas) and other ViacomCBS networks, with exclusive licensing rights on this programming. Additionally, Perry recently announced his joint venture with BET Networks for the new streaming video on demand service BET+. Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan marks Perry’s first kids’ scripted series.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Md., Gilmer is known for his many appearances and performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at NBA All-Star Weekend. He will next appear at Nickelodeon SlimeFest, a two-day family-friendly music festival on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Gilmer has an overall talent deal with Telepictures, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television, and has previously guest starred on the revival of Nickelodeon’s hit series All That.
