Part challenge show, part masterclass in the absurd, Very Bad Crafts is like Nailed It but with crafts, where contestants will be challenged to channel their inner Michelangelo. America’s Most Musical Family is a one-of-a-kind music competition series that will see 30 talented and diverse family bands performing in all genres take center stage in front of celebrity judges Grammy Award-winning global superstar Ciara, digital media sensation David Dobrik, pop icon and Broadway star Debbie Gibson and show host, singer and television personality Nick Lachey to compete for a recording contract with Republic Records and the chance to win a $250,000 cash prize in partnership with Capri Sun 100% Juice. Bands taking part range from a father/daughter duo, sibling groups and a 12-member multigenerational brass ensemble. The bands will battle it out over the course of 12 hour-long episodes and one half-hour special.

Viacom Launches Nicktoons Channel in the Czech Republic

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is strengthening its portfolio in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region with the launch of a localised Nicktoons channel in the Czech Republic! Launching on Wednesday 30th October 2019, Nicktoons Czech Republic (Česká republika) will broadcast 24/7 and is a sub-feed Nicktoons Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), which launched in April 2019, with a localised Czech language track. The channel brings viewers the most popular animated series and exclusive new animated shows produced by Nickelodeon, one of the most popular children's channels in the Czech Republic.

Update (4/12) - VIMN launched Nicktoons Česká republika on DIGI TV on Tuesday 3rd December 2019! The channel was added to DIGI TV's Basic Program Package line-up.

Update (18/12) - O2 TV will launch Nicktoons on the platform on Thursday 19th December 2019! Initially launching in O2 TV's L package and higher-tiered packages, will be eventally be included in the service's S, M, Modrá and Bronzová packages by Monday 6th January 2020. Nicktoons Česká republika replaces Megamax on the platform, which is seizing broadcasting in the CEE region in December.


It has been confirmed that Nicktoons Czech Republic will feature in several packages on UPC CZ, the biggest provider of television services in the Czech Republic.

Although the channel's official launch is set for Wednesday 30th October 2019, it's expected that Nicktoons Czech Republic will soft launch on Tuesday 29th October 2019.


Update (1/11) - Nicktoons Česká republika fully launched on Thursday 31st October 2019! The channel is currently available in 16:9, with older shows being broadcast in so-called "pillarbox" mode (ie with stripes on the sides). Nicktoons is currently only available on UPC Czech Republic (including the Horizon Go internet service), but is expected to launch on additional platforms in the future. The channel is currently broadcasting in 720x576p resolution and 2.5 Mbps. All shows, trailers and jingles are already broadcast in Czech, but ads are currently missing.

Updated (29/10): As expected, Viacom today soft-launched Nicktoons Czech Republic!

It is currently unconfirmed, however:

- Whether the channel will initially only be available in SD;
- Whether it'll have a catch-up TV option on UPC CZ;
- Whether the channel will initially carry local adverts or not;
- Whether the channel will have a local opt out with fillers;
- Whether there'll be a special launch event for the channel;
- Whether there'll be cross-promotion for the channel on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. (using local ad opt outs)

Update (8/10) - Nicktoons Czech Republic will be available on UPC Česká republika. The channel will reportedly launch on Tuesday 29th October 2019.


NickToons Česká republika will join VIMN's three other dedicated children's channels in the Czech Republic: Nickelodeon Česká republika (a localised version of Nickelodeon Central and Eastern Europe with a Czech soundtrack) for kids aged 4-12 years old, which airs hit live-action and animated series; Nick Jr. Česká republika (a version of Nick Jr. CEE with a Czech soundtrack), Nickelodeon's top-rated preschool channel for children aged 2-6 years; and the non-localised Nickelodeon HD. Nicktoons is aimed towards boys and girls aged 6-to-14 years. With this combination, Viacom offers the most engaging, fun and varied content for kids and adolescents - all day long, every day.

Nicktoons Česká republika will air a wide range of programming from Nickelodeon's vast library of hit animated series, including Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Avatar: The Legend of Aang, Penguins of Madagascar and more. Viewers will also be able to watch series exclusive to the channel, including Sanjay and Craig, Welcome to the Wayne, The Adventures of Kid Danger, Breadwinners and more.

Axocom will represent the Nicktoons channel in the Czech Republic.

Nicktoons can be viewed in more than 90 million homes in 27 countries worldwide, including in the USA, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Turkey, Hungary, Russia, Poland and Bulgaria.

Nickelodeon has been testing the high-definition Czech version of Nicktoons on the HOTBIRD satellite at 13° East, however, it is currently airing programming with Romanian audio.

Ve vysílání se objeví mimo jiné seriály Spongebob v kalhotách, Želvy ninja, Tučňáci z Madagaskaru, ToonMarty, Chlebáci nebo Alvin a Chimpunkové. Tematická televize, která již vysílá například v Polsku, Turecku nebo Bulharsku, je určeno primárně divákům ve věku od šesti do čtrnácti let.

Na českém trhu začne vysílat pravděpodobně již v průběhu října nová dětská placená televize Nicktoons. Vyplývá to z informací redakce portálu Digitální rádio. Nicktoons bude na našem trhu k dispozici v češtině a nabídne výhradně animované seriály, jako jsou například Spongebob v kalhotách, Želvy ninja, Tučňáci z Madagaskaru, ToonMarty, Chlebáci nebo Alvin a Chimpunkové. Vysílání tematické televize, která již vysílá například v Polsku, Turecku nebo Bulharsku, je určeno primárně divákům ve věku od šesti do čtrnácti let.

Stanici Nicktoons bude na českém trhu zastupovat společnost Axocom. Její zakladatelka Erika Luzsicza však plánovaný krok odmítla oficiálně komentovat. Jak upozornil portál Digitální rádio dlouholetý spolupracovník Lukáš Jaro, Nicktoons již testuje českou verzi s vysokým rozlišením obrazu na satelitní pozici 13 stupně východně, družice Hotbird. Na stopě označené jako Czech je v tuto chvíli prozatím šířena rumunština. Stanice Nicktoons na českém trhu doplní kanály Nickelodeon a Nick Junior a nelokalizovaný Nickelodeon HD.

Do programových balíčků DTH platforem by mohl být zařazen další dětský kanál. Na kapacitě společnosti MX1 na satelitu Thor 6 (0,8°W) byl zapojen kanál Nicktoons s českou a maďarskou audio stopou.

Program je od svého připojení v rámci simulcryptu zakóván systémy Conax (CAID 0B02, 0B1C), Irdeto (CAID 0653, 0D97) a Nagra MA (CAID 1815, 1882 a 1886). V praxi to znamená, že program by se mohl objevit v nabídce DTH služeb freeSAT, Nová Digi TV CZ, Nová Digi TV SK, Magio Sat a T-Mobile SAT TV.

Program Nicktoons se vysílá v MPEG-2 s datovým tokem vida kolem 2,5 Mbit/s a audiem MPEG 128 kbit/s.

V době publikování zprávy probíhalo neveřejné vysílání, které není dostupné na kartách zákazníků zmíněných platforem. Rovněž žádná z výše uvedených platforem zatím neoznámila zařazení programu do své nabídky. V nabídce platforem by se mohl program objevit od listopadu.

Nicktoons se zaměřuje na animované filmy a je určen pro děti ve věku od šesti do deseti let. Stanice je součástí rodiny programů Nickelodeon, která zahrnuje stanice Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. a Nicktoons. Posledně uvedený program tak bude v pořadí třetím dětským programem z rodiny stanic Nickelodeon.

Kanál Nicktoons již poskytuje UPC DTH/M7 Group zákazníkům DTH platforem UPC Direct a Focus Sat v Maďarsku a Rumunsku.

Dětskou televizi Nicktoons zařadila z velkých hráčů prozatím pouze UPC, další jsou v jednání

Tematická stanice je k dispozici pouze ve standardním rozlišení obrazu. Jejím cílem je vyplnit věkovou mezeru mezi dětskými televizemi Nick Jr. a Nickelodeon.

Dětskou televizi Nicktoons zařadila do nabídky z největších telekomunikačních hráčů na trhu prozatím pouze firma UPC Česká republika, která ji zařadila také do internetové služby Horizon Go, v průběhu listopadu se má program objevit i v nabídce T-Mobile TV. Další operátoři jsou v jednání. „Zatím jsme se na zařazení nedohodli,“ potvrdil pro portál Digitální rádio Jaromír Glisník, člen představenstva společnosti M7 Group, která provozuje satelitní televizi Skylink. Podobně je na tom i O2 Czech Republic provozují platformu O2 TV.

Stanice je pro operátory k dispozici pouze ve standardním rozlišení obrazu, v širokoúhlém formátu 16:9. Starší pořady budou vysílány v takzvaném pillarboxu, tedy s pruhy po stranách. Jak sdělil naší redakci spolupracovník Lukáš Jaro, v nabídce kabelové televize UPC je program k dispozici s rozlišením 720x576p a datovým tokem 2,5 Mbps. V češtině jsou již vysílány všechny pořady, upoutávky a znělky, reklamy však momentálně chybí. Kanály Viacomu zastupují u nás i Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. a nelokalizovaný Nickelodeon HD.

„Nicktoons skvěle doplňuje nabídku dětského obsahu od Viacomu,“ uvedl Gábor Harsányi, viceprezident a generální manažer Viacom International Media Networks pro střední a východní Evropu a Izrael, a dodal: „Nový kanál vyplňuje mezeru mezi Nick Jr., který nabízí zábavný a interaktivní obsah pro předškoláky, a Nickelodeonem, který přináší ty nejlepší animované a hrané seriály populární mezi teenagery. S novou kombinací kanálů nabízíme největší výběr zábavných animovaných seriálů pro děti každého věku.“

Viacom rozšiřuje v Česku dětské televize o Nicktoons

Animovaný dětský kanál Nicktoons začne v Česku vysílat od začátku listopadu.

Viacom, společnost provozující vysílání kanálů Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Prima Comedy Central a MTV, spouští v Česku nový televizní kanál pro děti. Jmenuje se Nicktoons a zaměřuje se na animované pořady. Určen je dětem ve věku 6-14 let. Jeho program má být kompletně předabován do češtiny.

Jako první budou mít přístup k novému placenému kanálu zákazníci UPC Česká republika, a to od 1. listopadu. V průběhu měsíce se pak Nicktoons objeví i v nabídce T-Mobile a dalších placených televizních operátorů.

Provozovatelem stanice Nicktoons je společnost Nickelodeon, pod kterou patří i stejnojmenný dětský kanál.

„Nicktoons doplňuje nabídku dětského obsahu od Viacomu,“ říká Gábor Harsányi, viceprezident a generální manažer Viacom International Media Networks pro střední a východní Evropu a Izrael.„Nový kanál vyplňuje mezeru mezi Nick Jr., který nabízí zábavný a interaktivní obsah pro předškoláky, a Nickelodeonem, který přináší animované a hrané seriály populární mezi teenagery. S novou kombinací kanálů nabízíme největší výběr zábavných animovaných seriálů pro děti každého věku,“ dodal.

Nicktoons je dostupný ve 27 zemích, má mít dosah 90 mil. domácností. Jde o jediný kanál s animovaným obsahem pro děti, který vysílá čtyřiadvacet hodin denně. Nabízí například seriály Vzestup želv Ninja, Spongebob v kalhotách, Kung Fu Panda: Legendy o mazáctví, Avatar: Legenda o Aangovi nebo Tučňáci z Madagaskaru. Do Česka má přinést i exkluzivní premiéry animovaných seriálů – například 44 koček, Lego City dobrodružství a další.

Stanice Nickelodeon se zaměřuje především na děti 5 až 10 let. V ranních hodinách a o víkendu pak na diváky ve věku 2 až 5 let. Přináší televizní seriály a filmy z vlastní i cizí produkce. Převážně vysílá animovanou tvorbu. Její podíl na sledovanosti představuje 0,12 % (15-69, 1. pol. 2019).

Nick Jr. je určen především předškolákům ve věku 2 až 6 let a jejich rodičům. Podíl na televizním tuzemském trhu představuje 0,2 % v divácké skupině 15-69 (1. pol. 2019).

Na reklamním trhu zastupuje dětské stanice Viaocomu zastupitelství Media Club.

Dětský kanál Nicktoons spouští vysílání v České republice

Mediální skupina Viacom spouští na českém trhu vysílání televizního kanálu pro děti pod názvem Nicktoons. Animované seriály z dílny společnosti Nickelodeon budou kompletně nadabované do češtiny.

Stanice bude vysílat 24 hodin denně. Nabídne tituly jako Vzestup želv Ninja, Spongebob v kalhotách, Kung Fu Panda: Legendy o mazáctví, Avatar: Legenda o Aangovi nebo Tučňáci z Madagaskaru.

„Nový kanál vyplňuje mezeru mezi Nick Jr., který nabízí zábavný a interaktivní obsah pro předškoláky, a Nickelodeonem, který přináší ty nejlepší animované a hrané seriály populární mezi teenagery,“ přiblížil regionální viceprezident Viacomu Gábor Harsányi.

V novembri odštartuje oficiálne na slovenskom a českom trhu nový detský televízny kanál s názvom nicktoons. Prevádzkovateľom bude spoločnosť Viacom International Media Networks Europe, ktorá už má vo svojom portfóliu detské stanice Nickelodeon a Nick Jr. Podľa vysielateľa má nicktoons vyplniť medzeru medzi predškolským obsahom na Nick Jr. a akčným na Nickelodeon.

Nicktoons bude dostupný v českom jazyku. Vo vysielaní sa zameria na deti vo veku od 4 do 10 rokov. Z aktuálneho programu môžeme spomenúť animované rozprávky ako Ninja korytnačky, Kung Fu Panda, Tučniaci z Madagaskaru, Alvin a Chipmakovia a SpongeBob.

Novinku majú postupne zaraďovať do svojich ponúk operátori na Slovensku a v Českej republike. Zo satelitných operátorov testuje aktuálne program s českou audio stopou Magio Sat, DIGI TV a freeSAT. Zatiaľ však ani jeden z nich o zaradení programu do ponuky neinformoval.

Megamax na českém trhu končí, O2 TV zařadí stanici Nicktoons

O2 TV zařazuje od 19. prosince do nabídky na pozici 94 televizní kanál Nicktoons (patří do stejné skupiny jako Nickelodeon a NickJr). Dětská stanice vysílá 24 hodin denně, a to kompletně v češtině. Na programu má hlavně animované seriály (Spongebob, Hlasiťákovi, Sanjay a Craig apod.). Vysílat bude jen v SD kvalitě, zařazena bude v tarifech O2 TV L a vyšších. Do 6. ledna ji uvidí i diváci s nižšími tarify S, M, Modrá a Bronzová.

Nicktoons bude náhradou za zrušený dětský kanál Megamax, který v prosinci ukončuje vysílání na středoevropských trzích.

Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) and the LEGO Group will premiere the brand-new high-stakes CG-animated comedy series LEGO® City Adventures on Saturday 21st December 2019. Following the construction of the series premiere, newly constructed episodes will continue to premiere regularly on Nick Latinoamérica.

A rollercoaster ride of fantastic fun, the series (10 episodes) depicts the funny, smart, and dynamic slices of life within the sprawling and diverse LEGO City community, following the absurd and action-packed adventures of its residents.

Buenos Aires, 9 de octubre de 2019– Luego de casi cinco meses de rodaje en Bogotá (Colombia), finalizaron las grabaciones de Noobees 2, la nueva temporada de la exitosa serie juvenil de Viacom International Studios (VIS) y The Mediapro Studio para Nickelodeon Latinoamérica.

El actor argentino Julián Cerati, la influencer colombiana La Pereztroica, y la actriz venezolana Karlys Romero se suman en esta nueva edición al elenco original, conformado por los mexicanos Michelle Olvera y Andrés de la Mora; los colombianos María José Vargas y Pipe Arcila, y la actriz brasileña Clara Tiezzi.

Esta segunda temporada, encuentra a Silvia (Michelle Olvera) y a David (Andrés de la Mora) disfrutando de su tiempo juntos como pareja, sin saber que "Gameover" busca vengarse. Su misión es tomar el control de todos los jugadores, conquistar todo y convertir el mundo real en un videojuego. Y para concretar este plan, Gameover da vida a 2 Avatares (Athina y Rocco) y los engaña sobre sus verdaderas intenciones, ofreciéndoles la oportunidad de jugar el mejor juego de sus vidas: entrar en el mundo real y mezclarse con los humanos.

The Spongebob Musical: Live On Stage!, featuring the Broadway stars and director of Nickelodeon's Tony-winning musical, has drawn strong ratings for Nickelodeon!

In Live+3, a December 7 simulcast across Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons and TeenNick drew 1.7 million viewers, up 24% from the Live+SD simulcast. It averaged a 3.4/751,000 in the K2-11 demo, +25% from L+SD, and a 3.8/522,000 with K6-11, up 28% - making it the number-one telecast for the week across all TV among K6-11.

Directed by Broadway’s Tina Landau (herself Tony-nominated for the show), The Spongebob Musical: Live On Stage! featured Ethan Slater in the title role, with Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Tentacles.

The cast also included Danny Skinner as Patrick Star, Brian Ray Norris as Eugene Krabs, Wesley Taylor as Sheldon Plankton, Christina Sajous as Sandy Cheeks. The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!, reimagined Bikini Bottom on stage for this television event, bringing the spirit of SpongeBob to life with humanity, heart, and pure theatricality.

The made-for-Broadway plot has SpongeBob and the rest of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage.

Ratings are in for the Nickelodeon broadcast, which aired on three channels December 7.

On December 7 members of the original Broadway company of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical were seen in a broadcast of the musical filmed in front of a live theatre audience. The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! simulcast was broadcast on Nickelodeon, TeenNick, and Nicktoons and drew 1.7 million total viewers (factoring views from three days following the live event), according to the network.

In further ratings news, the show was the number one telecast for the week across the K6-11 demographic, averaging 3.4/751,000 across K2-11 and 3.8/522,000 across K6-11.

‘Mandalorian’ Tops Parrot Analytics’ SVOD Originals Chart for 4th Week

The Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” remained at No. 1 on Parrot Analytics’ digital originals rankings the week ended Dec. 14, its fourth straight week on top.

A “digital original” is Parrot’s term for a multi-episode series in which the most recent season was first made available on a streaming platform such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu or Disney+.

For the week, “The Mandalorian” registered 109 million average daily Demand Expressions, the proprietary metric used by Parrot Analytics to measure global demand for TV content. That was down 8.4% in expressions compared with the previous week.

On Parrot’s list of overall TV shows, including broadcast and cable, “Mandalorian” was No. 2, unseated after three weeks by Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants,” as the popular cartoon character appeared in The Spongebob Musical: Live on Stage, which was simulcast across four Nick-owned channels Dec. 7. It marked the first time in 25 weeks an SVOD series wasn’t on top of the overall TV demand chart, since “Game of Thrones” at the end of June.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” climbed back to No. 2 on the digital originals chart, registering 66.3 million expressions, down 10.1% from the previous week.

Swapping spots with “Stranger Things” was DC Universe’s “Titans,” which slid to No. 3 on the digital exclusives chart, with expressions down 15.9% to 62.8 million. While finale of the second season was released Nov. 29, a glimpse of the show was seen in the CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event Dec. 8.

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” jumped two spots to No. 4, with expressions up 49% to 41.3 million. The third season of the Award-winning series was released Dec. 6.

Netflix’s “Lucifer,” stayed at No. 5, its expressions up 19.7% to 34.9 million. Similarly to “Titans,” “Lucifer” star Tom Ellis made a cameo on the CW “Crisis” crossover Dec. 10.

Amazon Prime Video’s fourth season of “The Expanse,” which was released Dec. 12, joined the digital originals top 10 at No. 7, from No. 14 the previous week. Expressions were up 34.4% to 32.9 million.

The Apple TV+ crime drama “Truth Be Told” climbed to No. 10 from No. 70 the previous week, with expressions up 151.5% to 27.8 million.

The Demand Expressions metric draws from a wide variety of data sources, including video streaming, social media activity, photo sharing, blogging, commenting on fan and critic rating platforms, and downloading and streaming via peer-to-peer protocols and file sharing sites.

Parrot Analytics also just unveiled its new public-facing website with demand data about select TV shows for the U.S. and other markets. The “Truth Be Told” profile can be found here.

Media Play News has teamed with Parrot Analytics to provide readers with a weekly top 10 of the most popular digital original TV series in the United States, based on the firm’s proprietary metric called Demand Expressions, which measures global demand for TV content through a wide variety of data sources, including video streaming, social media activity, photo sharing, blogging, commenting on fan and critic rating platforms, and downloading and streaming via peer-to-peer protocols and file sharing sites.

SpongeBob tops the in-demand show rank

Kids clamored to Nickelodeon's underwater character online, replacing Peppa Pig as the most in-demand series this past month, according to Parrot Analytics.

After getting bested by Peppa Pig last month, SpongeBob SquarePants has swum to the top and is globally the most in-demand kids show between November 16 to December 15, according to Parrot Analytics. The spike in popularity is most likely because of the SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical (pictured), which aired on Nickelodeon on December 7, according to a Parrot spokesperson.

By measuring social media interactions, social video views, online research for the shows and piracy numbers, Parrot uses a proprietary algorithm to figure out what the demand is for the average show. It then weighs individual series against this average to determine a rank.

This past month SpongeBob had 13.3-times more demand than the average kids show, up from 9.3 times last month. eOne’s Peppa Pig and PJ Masks came second and third with 12.1 times and 9.4 times the average demand, respectively. The top 10 is rounded out by Steven Universe (nine times), Naruto: Shippuden (8.8 times), Masha and the Bear (8.5 times), PAW Patrol (eight times), Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (7.9 times), Talking Tom and Friends (7.1 times) and Pokémon (seven times).

Talking Tom and Friends is new to the list this month, knocking Teen Titans Go! down a few spots to 12th place with 6.4 times the demand against the average kids show globally. Steven Universe jumped to 4th (from 6th) and Naruto to 5th (from 8th). All of the top-eight fit into the “outstanding category” which only 2.7% of shows were able to achieve this month.

America’s Most Musical Family is a one-of-a-kind music competition series that will see 30 talented and diverse family bands performing in all genres take center stage in front of celebrity judges Grammy Award-winning global superstar Ciara, digital media sensation David Dobrik, pop icon and Broadway star Debbie Gibson and show host, singer and television personality Nick Lachey to compete for a recording contract with Republic Records and the chance to win a $250,000 cash prize in partnership with Capri Sun 100% Juice. CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown twins Ava and Lily Rashed vow to work harder than before following two weeks of international television exposure.

The 16-year-old daughters of David and Sue Rashed were eliminated Friday night from the competition on Nickelodeon’s “America’s Most Musical Family’’, which aired on YTV in Canada.

The competition was filmed back in August in Los Angeles, Calif., but the girls were sworn to secrecy on how they fared. They were one of 30 family acts chasing the grand prize of a recording contract and $250,000 in cash.

“The overall experience was extremely positive and Lily and I were just so grateful to even be a part of the show at all,’’ Ava said.

“We’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing and writing songs and keep working really hard on our music. Hopefully, something comes out of this.’’

Last spring, the Rashed twins did a show at the Delta hotel in Charlottetown. They uploaded a 60-second snippet of their performance to their Instagram account which impressed a casting director with the Nickelodeon show. From there, the ball started rolling.

Lily said they worked day and night honing their skills so they could deliver the best possible performance on the show.

“We worked so hard just to get to the semifinals,’’ Lily said, referring to this past Friday’s show where they performed “Ex’s and Oh’s’’ by Elle King.

“It was just an amazing experience.’’

“We worked on the same songs, getting them prepared for L.A. and by the time we did perform them we knew them inside and out and we just went and had fun with it,’’ Ava added.

Ava said their adrenaline was on overdrive as they performed thanks to the energy from the audience.

“Just being in that atmosphere made us 10 times more excited. It’s like, ‘OK, this is the performance, this is what is going to be on the line’. We didn’t hold back at all and just gave it 100 per cent,’’ Ava said.

As an added bonus, their father, David, joined them on stage backing them on the bass guitar.

“I think I might have seen the bigger picture more than them because I might have been more nervous than them, honestly,’’ David said.

“You’re on a national stage — it’s the U.S., it’s Canada, it’s the world. I just wanted to do my part.’’

Even though they don’t have to keep things a secret anymore, there’s no use asking them who eventually comes out on top. Even they don’t know, but they’ll be watching.

Obviously, Ava and Lily would have liked to have gone further but they say they wouldn’t trade the experience.

“I think it’s made us, overall, more confident,’’ Lily said.

“Just being in the Los Angeles atmosphere really made us love music even more than we did.’’

How the New Host of Blue’s Clues Joshua Dela Cruz is Changing the Face of Children’s Television

After Blue’s Clues skidooed into television history after six seasons that aired from 1996 to 2006, an entire generation grew up without the excitement of mail time and the satisfaction of figuring out clues.

But last month, the series returned to Nickelodeon as Blue’s Clues & You with a new host, 29-year-old Joshua Dela Cruz.

The Broadway veteran from New Milford, New Jersey, was hand-picked from more than 3,000 hopefuls, among them, WWE wrestler John Cena. But original Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns believed Dela Cruz was destined to don the striped shirt for the next generation.

Casting the Filipino American in the title role has been seen as a major breakthrough for diversity in children’s television, with Dela Cruz being the iconic show’s first Asian American host.

“I never thought in a million years that anything like this would happen,” he said during a phone interview with Forbes. “I used to watch the show with my little sister and never thought that I would be in television. It’s been a really humbling experience.”

Feeling Blue

Born in Dubai, Dela Cruz was introduced to the theater by his older sister when he was in the eighth grade — and after training at the Paper Mill Playhouse’s musical theater conservatory in Millburn, NJ, he went on to star on Broadway in The King & I and Aladdin.

While he loved working in the theater, he started to itch for a project that could reach wider audiences. “The problem with musical theater is that it's really expensive to see a show and to bring a family to see a show, forget about it,” he says. “I wanted to do something where I could use the gifts and skills that I had learned along the way to help people. And I didn't know what it was.”

When his agent told him about Blue’s Clues, he started reminiscing about the show with his Aladdin cast mates and realized that maybe this was the next step. “This is the thing that I was looking for,” Dela Cruz says.

But he felt the weight of responsibility. “They're such big shoes to fill since they're such important parts of people's lives and and how they grew up that I was definitely hesitant and anxious about doing a good enough job,” he admits.

That all changed during one of the first work sessions. “Steve Burns pulled me aside and was like, ‘We cast you for you. We love everything that you're doing, everything that you bring to the table, so don't feel like you have to copy or replicate anything that I or Donovan Patton did in the past. This is your house now.’”

With that vote of confidence from the original host, Dela Cruz sunk into the role and paved his own way.

Diversity Matters

Having worked on stage all his life, the delayed audience response took some patience. Even after the first episode of Blue’s Clues & You aired on November 11, it took some time for the ratings to come and know it was doing well. But then the more impactful feedback started coming.

“I started getting tagged in videos and friends started sending me pictures of their kids watching the show,” he describes. “They’re so immersed in it — playing along, yelling and laughing. It's been such a fulfilling experience for me in every way. And I couldn't be happier.”

But there was another level to the reaction coming from the communities that rarely see themselves on screen, especially on children’s television. “I had friends sending me texts saying, ‘My kid's pointing at the screen saying, ‘He looks like me!’’”

And that’s what makes his role so groundbreaking. At least half of all stories across TV, movies and streaming “fail to portray one speaking or named Asian or Asian American on screen,” according to a study by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. So the fact that a show targeted at preschoolers could be anchored by Dela Cruz is nothing short of historic.

Dela Cruz himself didn’t see Asian Americans on television growing up either. “There were a handful of people that missed my generation,” he says, referring to The Wiggles’ Jeff Fatts and Sesame Street’s Alan Muraoka. “But I never experienced seeing somebody like me on TV growing up. That definitely does play a part in why maybe I never even saw myself on television — or even mainstream media.”

One of his early memories of seeing a Asian American performer was when Dante Bosco played Rufio in 1991’s Hook. “He was like a rare butterfly,” Dela Cruz says. But that lack of inclusion is exactly why he never considered a career beyond the stage, where he did at least see Asians Americans in specifically Asian-themed shows like Miss Saigon and The King & I.

Inclusion at Its Best

Oftentimes, the push for diversity leads to checklist casting — making sure every ethic group is covered, like a United Colors of Benetton ad. While it does lead to diversity on television, it can also feel forced. “I hope that we’re going to continue to evolve and grow as a society and that media will continue to reflect everyday life,” Dela Cruz says, adding that checking off the boxes might be a necessary tool to get to that point.

What makes his role on Blue’s Clues even more unique is that they didn’t have ethnicity in mind. “To be cast in this role, without having to be specifically Filipino or Asian is so important because that is inclusion at its very best,” Dela Cruz says. “It's not like we're hiring you because we need an Asian. We're hiring you because we liked you, and you happen to be Asian which is something we're going to celebrate.”

As proof of a world that’s starting to change, he pointed to Filipino American Jacob Batalon’s role in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and the mainstream acceptance of 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians and this year’s The Farewell.

The Farewell transcends an Asian American story where it's just about family and people,” he says of watching it. “It was very specifically a Chinese thing, but I was laughing because I could relate and my wife [actress Amanda Dela Cruz who recently starred in off-Broadway's Jersey Boys], who is Caucasian, was laughing as well because she could relate to moments in her life.”

Modern Families

To add to the progressive nature of his role on the children’s show, his character is introduced as a “cousin” to the previous two Caucasian hosts, Burns and Patton.

“It is such a great change for our show and for America because I look at my family and everyone is Modern Family diverse,” he says. “We're not just talking about the people that you work with, but the people that you live with. I applaud our creators and Nickelodeon for adding a layer of diversity. We're not explaining it. It wasn't a necessity, it just is.”

The advent of other ways to consume media — through web series, social media and streaming — has also opened up new doors. “Diversity and inclusion is accelerated today because there are so many ways to view it,” he adds. “People are starving for inclusion and they can find places to view it. If we continue to make good content and to challenge ourselves to create not just diverse material but good material, I think that will definitely start to change and it will definitely evolve.”

And as for those kids, who like himself, still don’t see themselves on the shows they love — or even in other fields that they hope to pursue, Dela Cruz encourages them to dream big. After all, it worked for him.

“If you love something and you work hard and are kind, when that opportunity and your preparedness meet, there is no reason that you can't be that person to open the door for everyone else,” the actor says. “Even if you don't see yourself represented, that doesn't mean anything because nobody saw themselves represented on the moon and then all of a sudden we were there.”

It's Pony - New Show



Life is more exciting, fun, and unpredictable with a pony, as seen in Nickelodeon’s new original animated series It’s Pony, premiering Saturday, Jan. 18. The 20-episode series follows the comedic adventures of Annie and her best friend, who just so happens to be an enthusiastic, unpredictable, and carefree pony. Following its premiere, It’s Pony will continue to air Saturdays on Nickelodeon and will air internationally in April 2020.

The series stars Jessica DiCicco (Adventure Time) as Annie, an optimistic and determined farm girl living in the city with her family and best friend Pony; Josh Zuckerman (Strange Angel) as Pony, who is naïve and impulsive, but loves Annie more than anything; Abe Benrubi (E.R.) as Dad, who treats Pony as a nuisance, but recognizes the special bond he shares with Annie; and India de Beaufort (All Hail King Julien) as Mom, who loves Annie and Pony’s relationship and always has a new project in the works.

The Crystal Maze - New Game Show



Comedian/writer Adam Conover is the new host of Nickelodeon’s upcoming family game show, The Crystal Maze, an all-new version of the legendary UK hit series, premiering Friday, Jan. 24, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT). The Crystal Maze will feature Conover as the Maze Master, charged with guiding one family team through physical and mental challenges set within an elaborate labyrinth of four giant and immersive themed zones: Aztec, Eastern, Futuristic and Industrial.

The premiere episode of The Crystal Maze will feature a family from Houston, Texas, tackling a range of challenges in the maze for the first time ever for U.S. audiences. This season will feature families from: Scottsdale, Ariz; Lake Forest, Calif; Eastvale, Calif ; St. Augustine, Fla; Windemere, Fla; Chester, Va; Germantown, Tenn; Carollton, Texas; and Wheaton, Ill.

In each episode, the youngest family member takes on the role of team Captain. The successful completion of escape-room style challenges are rewarded with a “time crystal” granting the family five seconds in the centerpiece final zone called the Crystal Dome. The more crystals gathered throughout the game, the more time each family has for a dramatic clock countdown challenge inside the iconic Dome for a chance to win up to $25,000.

A current ratings smash in the UK, The Crystal Maze has been a beloved family and cult favorite since the mid ‘90s, with the current global popularity of the escape room phenomena reigniting interest further. The show was recently rebooted to great success with celebrity, charity and family seasons in UK, Australia and beyond.

Production on the new series (10 one-hour episodes) took place on the show's original set located at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, England, earlier this summer.

Devised by Jacques Antoine, the UK version of The Crystal Maze was originally hosted by Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror), followed by Ed Tudor-Pole. The reboot was originally presented by Stephen Merchant (for Stand Up To Cancer), and currently by Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd, Travel Man) with his "hand." The show's theme song is the legendary "Force Field", below. The show is currently filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol.

The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!


Following a critically lauded run on Broadway, Nickelodeon reunited reunites members of the original award-winning Broadway company of The SpongeBob Musical for The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!, will simulcast on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) across Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons and Nick Jr. Joining the cast is veteran SpongeBob SquarePants voice actor Tom Kenny as “Patchy the Pirate,” performing the original Sara Bareilles song “Poor Pirates.” The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! was filmed for television in front of a live theater audience, capturing all-new depths of theatrical innovation, where the power of optimism really can save the world.

The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! cast will include Ethan Slater as SpongeBob SquarePants, Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand will The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!, which, following a critically lauded run on Broadway, reunites members of the original award-winning Broadway company, on Saturday 28th December 2019 at 6:30pm (AEDT)! Joining the cast is veteran SpongeBob SquarePants voice actor Tom Kenny as “Patchy the Pirate,” performing the original Sara Bareilles song “Poor Pirates.” The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! was filmed for television in front of a live theater audience, capturing all-new depths of theatrical innovation, where the power of optimism really can save the world.

“I’ve had a blast portraying live-action suburban buccaneer and President of the SpongeBob SquarePants Fan Club, ‘Patchy the Pirate,’ since the character’s first appearance in season two of SpongeBob SquarePants way back in 2000,” said Kenny. “I loved The SpongeBob Musical, and I was thrilled to be included in it both in pre-recorded (‘French Narrator’) and songwriter (‘Best Day Ever’) forms! But to now have the opportunity to actually step onstage and perform alongside members of the original Broadway production is truly a unique honor. It’s ‘meta times ten,’ and I think Nickelodeon’s audience will really get a kick out of it!”

Nickelodeon has revealed a first look of the special, where the stakes are higher than ever, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the potential of total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises and takes center stage.

Nickelodeon and KFC Big Bash League set to launch into fourth consecutive season


Nickelodeon will be synonymous with the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) once again in 2019-20, with Cricket Australia announcing the renewal of the partnership between the global kids’ entertainment brand and the league!

With families making up 36% of total ticket sales over the season, the renewed deal will see Nickelodeon continue to strengthen the BBL’s position as one of the top family-friendly entertainment options of the Australian summer.

The celebrate the fourth year of the partnership, players from all eight KFC BBL clubs joined a range of characters from Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants, club mascots and Woolworths Cricket Blast Kids at Sea World on the Gold Coast.

The 2019-20 partnership will see Nickelodeon ‘NICKify’ eight BBL matches throughout the season, beginning Friday, December 27 on the Gold Coast, when the Melbourne Stars take on the Adelaide Strikers at Metricon Stadium, all the way through to the BBL Final on Saturday, February 8.

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants will headline this season’s activities, with the iconic TV character celebrating his 20th Anniversary with the best summer ever! The friendly sponge will invite a select few fans on the field-of-play during innings breaks to take part in the ultimate Bikini Bottom challenge in hopes of winning a family holiday to Nickelodeon Land at Sea World on the Gold Coast, including accommodation at Sea World Resort & Water Park. Then, come the KFC BBL Final, one lucky family will win an exclusive trip to Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana in the Caribbean.

Off the field, the ‘Nick Squad’ will be entertaining kids, and big kids at heart, with a range of fun activities including ‘Nicket’ - Nickelodeon’s take on cricket, a pineapple glasses hut with a bedazzle station, and new water play activities, featuring pineapple water bombs to keep kids cool throughout the day.

Cricket Australia Head of Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson said: “We’re really excited to partner with Nickelodeon for the ninth season of the KFC BBL.”

“We believe this will be one of the most exciting BBL seasons to-date, and we look forward to working with Nickelodeon once again to deliver more fun and enjoyment to our fans across the country.”

General Manager (GM) and Vice President (VP) of Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand Ben Cox said: “Our partnership with BBL over the past three seasons has gone from strength to strength, and we are looking forward to making our fourth season the best yet with the inclusion of everyone’s favourite sponge, SpongeBob SquarePants!”

“At Nickelodeon, we put kids first with everything we do, and our partnership with BBL allows us to add an extra layer of fun for kids to enjoy during a day at the cricket.”

General Admission prices for the upcoming BBL season are on sale now, with adult tickets starting from $20, kids tickets from $5, and family tickets from $42.50*.

Зрители определили лучших в рамках премии «Большая Цифра 2020»

Жюри национальной премии «Большая цифра», призванной популяризировать новые телевизионные технологии, услуги и контент, подвело итоги зрительского голосования, в ходе которого определялись лучшие тематические цифровые каналы и онлайн кинотеатры.

Напряженная борьба продолжалась до самой полуночи 17 декабря - заключительного дня зрительского голосования - и предугадать его результаты было очень сложно. В итоге победителями в номинации тематических каналов стали: телеканал «Победа» (лучший документально-познавательный канал), «Е ТВ» (лучший спортивный канал), «Музыка Первого» (лучший музыкальный канал), «Дорама» (лучший канал телесериалов), «Дом кино» (лучший канал кинофильмов), Nickelodeon (лучший детский канал), «Авто плюс» (лучший развлекательный канал), «Поехали!» (лучший канал по интересам, путешествия), «Кухня ТВ» (лучший канал по интересам, кулинария).

Награда «Лучший онлайн-кинотеатр по мнению зрителей» досталась онлайн-кинотеатру ivi.

Помимо зрительского голосования профессиональное жюри определит сильнейших среди мультисервисных операторов, производителей и разработчиков оборудования и ПО, российских и иностранных телеканалов, онлайн-сервисов и OTT платформ. Возглавляет жюри Анатолий Григорьевич Лысенко, президент Международной Академии Телевидения и Радио, генеральный директор Общественного Телевидения России.
