Nickelodeon South East Asia and goGame Announce 'Nickelodeon Pixel Town' Mobile Game

Nickelodeon South East Asia has announced the exciting news that it will be launching Nickelodeon Pixel Town, Viacom International Media Networks' (VIMN) first Southeast Asia game collaboration with mobile game publisher goGame, very soon! Nickelodeon Pixel Town is the first game licensed to an Asian game developer that brings a family of Nickelodeon properties together.


Nickelodeon Pixel Town is a multi-property game of city building and nostalgic recollection, which brings back Nickelodeon favourites like Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim, along with evergreen properties like SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It will immerse users into building a Nickelodeon city of their own, where they can collect Nickelodeon characters, costumes and animations, from across the expansive Nickelodeon universe, which are drawn in highly stylistic pixel art.

The Story:

In NickelodeonPixel Town, when Patrick fiddled with one of Plankton’s experiments, something went wrong! Portals from across the Nickelodeon Universe were opened and all your favourite Nickelodeon Characters became trapped inside the Memory Centre within Pixel Town. Now, it’s up to you to find the right formulas to release them all and build your very own Pixel Town!


Build Your Own Pixel Town:

Build a customized town using buildings and locations from all your favorite Nickelodeon shows, including: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Invader ZIM, SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Danny Phantom, Fairly OddParents, Jimmy Neutron, CatDog, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold! and The Wild Thornberrys in retro pixel art style! There are over 60 of them to discover.

Ever wondered what it would be like if The Krusty Krab was next door to Jimmy Neutron's lab? Wonder no more.

Nick bets on multi-IP gaming with Pixel Town

Rather than dividing its efforts, the kidcaster's director of international games explains why it's combining several of the biggest franchises into one app.


Take a step into the Nick-Verse, filled with Timmy Turner, Jimmy Neutron and SpongeBob.

After primarily releasing games focused on a single IP, Nickelodeon dipped a toe into the multi-IP space last year with Nick Football Champions (timed with a release for the soccer World Cup). This past spring, the kidcaster waded in a bit deeper with the launch of Super Brawl Universe for iOS and Android, and then it followed that up with the web-based Nick Jr. World, which featured properties like Blaze and the Monster Machines, Shimmer and Shine, Top Wing and Butterbean’s Café.

Now, Nickelodeon is unveiling its biggest cross-property game to date with the launch of Pixel Town—a sprawling sandbox app featuring more than 12 iconic franchises.


“What’s cool about cross-property games is they give us a chance to celebrate IPs in a way that we wouldn’t get to do otherwise,” says Francis Dahl, director of international games and apps at Nickelodeon. “It allows us to keep certain brands alive and in the mix, like Rugrats or SpongeBob, or bring in a new show like Henry Danger. I think that having a cross-property Nickelodeon game gives us the chance to do more creative stuff and celebrate our full catalogue.”

Designed to promote SpongeBob’s 20th anniversary, Pixel Town will launch next month in Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia before its international rollout. Created in collaboration with Singaporean mobile game publisher goGame, the multiplayer iOS and Android app blends elements from CatDog, The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, Rugrats, Jimmy Neutron, Avatar, Rocko’s Modern Life, Hey Arnold! and The Wild Thornberrys into SpongeBob’s world. (While multi-IP games are definitely a focus for Nickelodeon right now, according to Dahl, fans can still expect to see plenty of single titles in the future, too.)

The story begins in Bikini Bottom, where Patrick Star is fiddling with one of his plankton experiments. Something goes terribly wrong, and suddenly, all portals across the Nickelodeon universe are opened. Players need to find the right formulas to release trapped characters so they can join the sandbox gameplay.

“We’re giving kids their own Nickelodeon universe and letting them flex some of their building muscles and creative skills to make it look however they want, ” says Dahl.

Players create a Nickelodeon town that they can expand by collecting characters, costumes and animation—all of which are drawn in a retro pixel art style. The game further immerses users in the world by having them go on quests with characters from the initial launch properties. Pixel Town’s multiplayer functionality allows kids to connect with their friends and enter their respective Towns. More characters, skins and buildings will be released after launch.

“We aim to do everything globally, but part of our strategy is to test some of this in specific markets before going out to a full global audience,” says Dahl. “Then we might tweak the mechanics or design to improve the experience, so that before we go as wide as possible, we can make sure that we are doing it in a way that it’s seeing some success in its initial launch place.”

NEW YORK--It’s time to pull up the Thinking Chair and follow the paw prints as Blue and her crew return in Nickelodeon’s brand-new preschool series Blue’s Clues & You!, debuting Monday, Nov. 11, at 9 a.m. (ET/PT). Steve Burns (Steve) and Donovan Patton (Joe) will reprise their roles in the series premiere, “Meet Josh!,” and help new live-action host Josh (Joshua Dela Cruz) and the audience solve their first game of Blue’s Clues.

Blue’s Clues & You! will feature brand-new elements alongside refreshed iconic items from the original series, including:

  • New CG-animation for Blue and Magenta;
  • An updated Handy Dandy Notebook equipped with a new blue crayon and smartphone technology, allowing Josh and Blue to receive emails and video calls;
  • An all-new Handy Dandy Guitar;
  • The return of fan-favorite characters: Tickety Tock, Slippery Soap, Shovel, Pail, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Cinnamon, Paprika, Felt Friends, Sidetable Drawer and Mailbox, plus the original Thinking Chair;
  • And the introduction of Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper’s newest additions—twins Sage and Ginger.

Nickelodeon is further deepening the interactivity of Blue’s Clues & You! with the launch of brand-new play-along videos in Noggin, Nick’s top-ranked interactive learning subscription for preschoolers. Launching alongside the series’ linear premiere, the play-along videos will allow users to explore the stories in an immersive way, and engage with live-action host Josh and the animated characters, by tapping, touching or swiping to navigate through enhanced learning experiences. Preschoolers will also have the ability to customize elements, like the color of the clues or the creation of birthday cards for Blue, and then see their designs appear throughout the video. The classic Blue’s Clues library is currently available on Noggin and additional Blue’s Clues & You! play-along videos will continue to roll out into next year.

To celebrate today's announcement, Nick Jr. released brand-new clip of the Blue's Clues reboot. As you can see above, this new clip follows Blue as the famous pup makes a request, but the new host Josh has trouble figuring out what's going on.

The clip begins with Josh telling fans he's unsure of what Blue wants with their snack, but he doesn't get too upset. He pulls out his handy dandy notebook which has gotten a big upgrade. Now, the book is part paper and part phone, so Josh takes a second to ring up some familiar faces.

First, Josh calls up Joe who is working at a present store. The pair talk for a moment before Steve is added to the call. The original host is working at the Blueprints Detective Agency where finding clues is what he does. As the pair all talk about Blue, Steve and Joe decide to chat with Blue directly, and they solve the mystery.

As it turns out, there is only one thing to do. Blue wants to play Blue's Clues, but the pair do one last thing before hanging up. Steve asks to talk to the viewers for a second, and he asks everyone to help Josh.

"Will you help my cousin Josh? Great because I can tell he's going to need a lot of help like I did," Steve says.

'Blue's Clues & You!' Brings Blue Back For New Adventures — EXCLUSIVE

Blue's Clues is back, in a slightly different — but nevertheless familiar — form on Nickelodeon. The revival, Blue's Clues & You!, exclusively debuts three episodes on the streaming service Vudu on Sept. 27 before it officially premieres on Nick on Nov. 11. Blue's Clues & You! brings Blue back for new adventures, along with some old friends and a new host, Joshua Dela Cruz. You can see them all in this exclusive clip [here on romper.com].

In many ways, the revived series is a lot like the original show. It follows a dog named Blue who leaves paw print-shaped clues on various objects to help her pal (owner? roommate?) Josh solve a puzzle. The level of audience interaction remains the same; there are gaps left in the dialogue so viewers can chime in and answer questions. The show still makes kids feel like they're part of what's going on. But there are a few technological updates, too.

This clip offers a glimpse at the new series, along with a hearty dose of nostalgia. In the episode "Playdate with Magenta," several fan favorite characters find themselves back on that beloved red couch. Blue's bestie Magenta is over for a visit, but when it comes time to take a photo together, several more friends pile into the frame. It doesn't look like Blue's Clues & You! has forgotten anyone.

The clip opens with Blue and Magenta bounding onto the couch while Josh walks by, with what looks like his Handy Dandy Notebook in his hands. Right away it's clear that the show is visually a little different, thanks to advances in animation since the original. But the vibe remains the same. Josh happily announces that it's picture time while Blue and Magenta act adorable in the background: they high-five their ears and tumble around just like the playful puppers they are.

Josh takes no notice of the explosion of cuteness behind him because he's focused on snapping a picture. To do that, he needs help from you, the viewer. He asks the viewer to hold his phone, which is when the update to the classic notebook becomes obvious. The notebook is no longer just a notebook, it also includes a handy dandy smartphone. Josh hands it over and the viewer brings it up to eye-level, so while you're watching it seems like you're looking right at the phone screen.

The pups are more than ready for their closeup, but when Josh tells them to move closer together, some other characters take the opportunity to jump into frame. Shovel and Pail arrive, with Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper joining soon after. The crew's all here! Josh excitedly gets them into position and encourages them to smile, at which point the viewer snaps the perfect shot. Then Josh asks Blue to take a picture of him with you, which she does using her ears. Unfortunately, you don't get to see how that one turned out.

The clip concludes with Blue using her ears to take a ton of selfies, because it's 2019 now and dogs know how to take selfies. Blue's Clues & You! has definitely been updated for a modern audience, but it seems to share its predecessor's fun spirit.

Blue's Clues & You! premieres on Nick on Nov. 11, with three episodes debuting early on Vudu on Sept. 27.

FNE Teams Up with Warsaw Kids Film Forum for Inspiration Day 2019: Nickelodeon Looks at International Projects


WARSAW, POLAND: The Inspiration Day, sponsored by Film New Europe (FNE) and the Central European Intitiative (CEI), hosted by the Warsaw Kids Film Forum on 25 September 2019, gathered international film professionals working with content for kids. Maria Kosareva, Vice President (VP), Kids and Family Brands, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, the CIS countries and the Baltic States, spoke to FNE on what content Nickelodeon is looking for globally.

FNE: During the Forecasting The Future Of Content For Children panel, you said that Viacom is highly invested in building a major library of online content available on social media for the Nickelodeon channel. Should producers approach you with ideas for VOD or SVOD consumption, or rather for linear TV?

Maria Kosareva: Viacom did launch Viacom Digital Studios a couple of years ago and we can boast over 10 m users on our online media platforms, but to work with us it makes sense to think about linear TV. We are open to ideas from content creators all over the world, but it is important to understand the Nickelodeon brand and to offer ideas that match the channel's DNA.

FNE: And what are the main characteristics of a show that you would be willing to consider?

Maria Kosareva: This means being funny, this is what Nickelodeon is all about and this is what brought us international success also here, in CEE Europe. The show needs to be relatable and inspirational to children, it also should be well rounded and gender neutral because Nickelodeon is well known for offering content that works both for boys and girls, and this is what the basis for our success. The characters also should be very diverse, because we are a global channel. The idea can come from anywhere, but it should appeal to kids from all over the world.

FNE: What are the chances of a show produced in the CEE region at Nickelodeon?

Maria Kosareva: The chances are high if the idea is great. Nickelodeon is open to cooperation with producers from any country and there is a programme named Global Animated Shorts, that we run every year with different themes and we offer the producers a chance to participate and submit their ideas on a theme that we are looking for. We just wrapped up this year's edition in July and the theme was Intergalactic shorts, where we were looking for content about the space and all that is connected to it. Once we choose a new theme and start the new programme, we would be very happy to get more projects from this region.

The celebratory year for the world’s most famous No.1 Blue Engine will see an increase in brand activity worldwide spanning the entire Thomas & Friends™ franchise


LONDON, UK, 24th of September 2019 – Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT) today announced a raft of new partnership deals for Thomas & Friends™ that will roll out from AW19 across categories, including toy, publishing, apparel and retail as the world-famous children’s brand celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2020.

Created as a fictional story for the Reverend. W. Awdry’s son Christopher in 1945, publishing remains a strong part of the brand heritage and franchise. With over 100 publishing titles and 2 million books sold each year, licensing partner Egmont continue to tell stories of the iconic engine through generations of children and will be producing a special edition to commemorate the anniversary..

In April next year, the brand launches an exciting licensing partnership with exclusive London department store Harrods, to celebrate the heritage of the brand with several activations throughout the store and limited edition branded merchandise sold in store.

Later in 2020, model railroad manufacturers Bachmann will work with the brand on a two-year licensing deal to bring the world of Thomas to life. The traditional electric trains will encompass the adventure and discovery of Thomas & Friends™, to provide fans of the brand, railway enthusiasts and collectors with a realistic re-creation of the adventures on the Island of Sodor through HO (1:87) scale products in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Popular party and fancy-dress company Smiffys also have teamed up with the brand to launch an exciting dress-up range for baby and toddlers that support storytelling. The new range is on track to launch in time for World Book Day in March, as the national day of the year continues to grow in popularity with dress-up across nurseries and schools in the UK.

The UK will also see a partnership with Europe's number one publisher of licensed calendars, greetings cards, gift wrap and diaries, Danilo. The family-run company has operated for over 40 years, creating products to celebrate those important milestones in life. The collaboration is a new licensing partnership, launching in AW19, and will see a collection of Thomas & Friends™ branded greeting cards, wrapping paper and gift bags.

Nick Jr. UK to Set Sail with 'Pirata & Capitano'

Nick Jr. UK & Ireland has acquired the rights to Millimages’ seafaring preschool animation Pirata & Capitano (52 x 11’), and will premiere the brand-new French CG-animated preschool series during late 2019!


Co-produced by public national broadcasters France Televisions and Rai (Italy), the brand-new CG-animated preschool series follows Pirata as she travels the Great Sea at the helm of her ship, the Pink Skull, with her loyal crew in search of adventure. Her best friend, Capitano, flies a red seaplane and joins them on their nautical explorations. Young viewers set sail with these heroes on a never ending treasure quest full of adventure and humour, while learning the value of teamwork and friendship. The series is fully produced with the lifelike lighting technique of “Global Illumination” (using technology developed by Dwarf Studios)

Pirata & Capitano has been warmly received in major territories. PhatMojo Named Paddington Master Toy Partner for U.S, Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand

Copyrights Group has appointed PhatMojo as the master toy partner for Paddington for the U.S, Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand!


PhatMojo will create new product ranges tied into all-new media content being developed for Paddington, which will include a TV series launching next year and the new Paddington movies.

PhatMojo, a Los Angeles-based toy company, will produce a full range of toys at different price points to include figurines, playsets, plush and roleplay items. The initial product launch linked to the TV series will take place in fall 2020. Products will be available for distribution across all other markets through new and existing partners.

Other regions will also have new products released at that time from new and existing partners, such as Maurizio Distefano Licensing (MD Licensing) in Italy and Goliath (board games) in the US, Spirit Halloween (costumes) in the US and Rockefeller Productions (stage shows) in North America.

The deal was brokered by Copyrights’ local licensing agents for North America, Bravado and Retail Monster. Fully animated in 3-D, the new Paddington series, The Adventures of Paddington, sees a younger Paddington writing to his Aunt Lucy from Windsor Gardens. Each episode will open and close with Paddington’s letter, as he tells Aunt Lucy what he has learned about life through the day’s new exciting adventure. Actor Ben Whishaw reprises his role as the voice of Paddington, after starring as the character in the live-action animation film series.


The Adventures of Paddington

Fully animated in 3D, The Adventures of Paddington will launch with 26 x 22-minute episodes, airing on Nickelodeon’s networks worldwide in 2020, excluding France, Canada, China and Japan. The series will invite a new generation of fans into Paddington’s world full of heart, kindness, slapstick humour, fun and generosity.

The movie, Paddington 3, is currently in development.

Currently in production, The Adventures of Paddington is a Heyday Films and STUDIOCANAL production in association with Copyrights. The Adventures of Paddington is helmed by Adam Shaw of Blue Zoo (It's Pony, Digby Dragon, Miffy, Go Jetters, Q Pootle 5), and developed for television and written by Jon Foster and James Lamont (The Amazing World of Gumball, Cuckoo, Paddington 1 & 2).

The much-anticipated The Adventures of Paddington television series will be produced by multi- award-winning David Heyman (producer of all eight of the Harry Potter films, Gravity, Paddington 1 & 2), Karen Davidsen (formerly with Disney and HIT Entertainment) and Simon Quinn (Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox). The series is executive produced by Rosie Alison (Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Paddington 1 & 2) and co-produced by Rob Silva.

The creation of the British-born writer, Michael Bond, Paddington has delighted children and families all over the world for 60 years with stories of the bear from Darkest Peru, famous for his love of marmalade. Paddington is popular with both children and adults.

Paddington’s adventures have been adapted several times for television and at the end of 2014 he made his debut onto the big screen, bringing in US$268 million at the global box office. A further film Paddington 2 followed in 2017 which brought in US$227 million worldwide. A third in the works. The movies were produced by Studiocanal, part of the international content and media group Vivendi.

In an all-new adventure, the pups take to the track for the Adventure Bay 500 and need to speed into action when legendary race car driver, The Whoosh, can’t compete.


In Paw Patrol: Ready Race Rescue, it’s the ADVENTURE BAY 500! The pups have built an awesome race track and are ready to be the pit crew for their race hero, THE WHOOSH! But when the legendary racer is unable to drive in the CHAMPIONSHIP RACE, he calls on his biggest fan-pup MARSHALL to take the wheel and race in his place! Could 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' Be Coming to Fortnite?

Could Are You Afraid of the Dark? be heading to Fortnite? BenDavid Grabinski, the writer and executive producer of Nickelodeon's upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival has teased on Twitter that the Carnival of Doom could be visiting the extremely popular video game soon!


Grabinski yesterday shared a cryptic image on Twitter of what appears to be the opening to the new carnival in the limited series, with the hashtag "#AreYouAfraidOfTheDark", but something about the image is a bit... off. You can check it out below:


It's not exactly an incredibly detailed image, but it certainly looks like there's some clear Fortnite signs in there. For example, the trees look straight out of the game, and the sky has what appears to be a couple different cracks in it. Given how soon the limited series is set to premiere, if it's really some sort of event and not just a clever Creative creation or fan construction, it's likely to come to light sooner rather than later.

The extremely popular video game Fortnite is no stranger to collaborations and crossovers with other pop culture properties. Just in the last several months, the game has had Batman, IT, and Borderlands events, just to name a few. So the fact that there now appears to be some sort of tease for a collaboration between Fortnite and the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? is not terribly shocking.

Nickelodeon is preparing for the return of The Midnight Society with the all-new Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-part limited series event. Based on the ‘90s kids’ cult classic, and reimagined for a new generation, part one of Are You Afraid of the Dark? will debut on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), with parts two and three to follow Oct. 18, and Oct. 25, respectively.

Across the three hour-long episodes, Are You Afraid of the Dark? will follow members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who tell a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life. In the just-released trailer, viewers meet the new members of the Midnight Society, get a glimpse at the uncertainty that awaits and prepare for an adventure beyond their wildest nightmares.


The new members of the Midnight Society are: Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick); Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (IT: Chapter Two, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween); and Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date) with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers. The series is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace, Happily) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac), both of whom are also executive producers. Chris Foss is also an executive producer.

One of the Nickelodeon’s most iconic series from the ‘90s, the original Are You Afraid of the Dark? delivered riveting stories of horror to young audiences, all from a kid’s perspective, which was relatively uncommon at the time. Are You Afraid of the Dark? is owned by DHX and was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, who are also executive producers on the project.

Spin Master Defeats Claims Against Rusty Rivets Series


TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2019 - Spin Master Corp. (TSX:TOY; www.spinmaster.com), a leading children's entertainment company announced today that it has prevailed in a lawsuit alleging that its preschool animated series, Rusty Rivets, infringed the copyrights of the alleged owner of a 20 year old comic book. The series, now in its third season, was independently created and developed by Spin Master and airs on Viacom's Nick Jr. channel.

The District Court for the Central District of California ruled in favor of Spin Master and Viacom in a summary judgment order issued September 17, finding that there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial on the plaintiff's claim that the series took elements from his 1990's comic books. Spin Master successfully proved that it created the show independently of the plaintiff's comic books. As the court explained: "Plaintiff's evidence of access falls short of supporting even a 'bare possibility,' let alone a 'reasonable possibility' that Defendants had access to his comic[s]."

"We are pleased with the court's ruling, demonstrating that these allegations were false and unfounded. Spin Master is committed to protecting its intellectual property and will continue to defend our rights where necessary."

The court also recognized that the two works were not at all similar in protectable expression: "the alleged similarities, whether assessed individually or collectively, are not substantially or strikingly similar." The decision also dismissed claims against Viacom and its subsidiary Nickelodeon for contributory and vicarious copyright infringement.
