From De Gooi- en Eemlander:

Hols: „We benaderen doelgroepen altijd 360 graden.

The Roast

John Debney & Germaine Franco Reveal How They Crafted the Music of 'Dora and the Lost City of Gold'

John Debney & Germaine Franco on Crafting the Music of Dora and the Lost City of Gold

Dora and the Lost City of Gold arrives in theaters this weekend, adapting the world of Nickelodeon's beloved animated preschool series Dora the Explorer for a whole new generation. The film follows a teenage Dora (Isabela Moner) as she ventures out of her life in the jungle and enrolls in an American high school. When her parents are kidnapped, Dora and her friends are sent on an adventure to save them -- and possibly solve an ancient Incan mystery in the process.

Adapting an iconic children's cartoon into an action-packed adventure is certainly no easy task, but Dora goes above and beyond to authentically portray its multicultural setting. This can be felt in a significant way in the film's music, which is composed by Oscar-nominated composers John Debney (Iron Man 2, The Greatest Showman) and Germaine Franco (Coco, Someone Great; Franco also has the honour of being the first Latina composer invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Music Branch and to receive the Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Music in an Animated Feature (COCO)). The duo's score utilizes a live orchestra, choir, Latin musicians and indigenous Andean singers/musicians, all of which combines into an exhilarating soundtrack for the film.

Ahead of Dora and the Lost City of Gold's theatrical debut, ComicBook.com got a chance to chat with Franco and Debney about crafting the film's unique sound, their relationship with Dora, and the significance of diversity in the world of composing.

ComicBook.com: How did you both initially get into the world of music and composing?

Germaine Franco: I got into music at a pretty young age; I was really interested in drums, percussion. I had played in orchestras and jazz bands, marching bands, and I wound up going to a conservatory in Houston and that's when I had started writing. And I got into film music through theater, working at the Los Angeles Theater Center, writing a lot of music for theater, and that transitioned into film. That's the short story.

John Debney: Well, same with me. I started playing at a really young age and started working for other composers as an orchestrator for quite a while in television. And then, like Germaine, went to college, got my degree in composition, and started working my way up, and here we are today.

What was your background with Dora going into this project? I know the character has become this sort of cultural touchstone, so I was curious about what kind of relationship you both had with that.

Franco: I have a son, so we spent many hours watching the Dora TV show and the specials. We speak Spanish as well, so it was, you know, part of our son's growing up. He always enjoyed it. Dora always felt more culturally relevant to us. So when the chance came to work on Dora with John; I was super excited because I already knew so much about her character.

Debney: It was the same with me. I have a lot of nieces, and I remember years ago when they were smaller, they were watching Dora and loved Dora. So I sort of got to know Dora back - almost twenty years ago, something like that. I always thought it was a pretty great animated show. So I kind of fell in love with it during then myself.

I love that you both worked with Latin and indigenous musicians with the Dora and the Lost City of Gold score. I was wondering if you both could speak to that and the significance of it.

Debney: I couldn't have picked a better partner and co-composer than Germaine. The choice was sort of made by the studio, and Germaine and I knew each other and respected each other's work, so it was sort of a no-brainer. And in terms of the cultural influences, that was hugely important to both of us. We wanted to both do a resurgent to ancient music, like ancient Incan music, etc. for all different ancient cultures. So we wanted it to be true to the culture and true to the heritage. And Germaine did some wonderful translation of ancient poems.

Franco: We originally wanted to go to Peru, but we came onto the project in [post-production], and there was a deadline and such. So we decided, "What can we do to make it culturally relevant?" And make it have some voice of the Indigenous people of Peru, and using some of the traditional instruments. So I started researching and reading a lot of books and pushing through a ton of music. And there's also of Peruvian musicians in L.A that we've worked with in the past, who had some idea the instrument keys and had used them on some other score.

I wanted to use the Quechua language in, you know, some of the choir pieces and for some soloists. So what I did was I wrote some poems in Spanish, and then I had the Quechua consultant who is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and he translated those.

We also found Bolivian musicians and Peruvian musicians. We had a language coach named Dante Concha who played all the indigenous flutes and the panpipe. And then another woman named Phaxsi Coca, and she's from Bolivia and speaks Quechua as well. And so they were chanting, and then helped us add their beautiful instruments on top of the score, which was really organic and added so much to it.

What is your favorite thing about the score for Dora and the Lost City of Gold? Is there like a certain sequence that you're particularly proud or anything like that?

Debney: I'm most proud of our collective work together, you know, Germaine and I were worked so thoroughly and every day, daily, at the, when we saw it all together, I think we were both really impressed that our styles worked so well together. And I think I'm most proud by how we integrated these instruments, these ancient instruments, and we kind of created a score that is a big adventure score but it's also infused with all these great colors of other cultures.

Franco: Yeah, I think what's really great about it besides the fact that we had our two voices, our sound, become one cohesive score was the way that we worked with so many different varieties of musicians and cultural styles. Because we have the epic, huge adventure cues, and there are emotional cues, and then there are the indigenous sounding cues. And so we had these incredibly trained orchestral players, and then the next two hours later we had the indigenous chanting going on, and we had the choir. So it was just a whole experience of putting them all together and collaborating that was, for me, a fantastic experience.

Germaine, I know you've become a champion for more diversity in the world of composing. What progress would you like to see made in terms of women and people of color, getting more opportunities in the composing industry?

Franco: I think the first thing is education, more females and people of color accepted into these incredible conservatories. But it has to happen at a really young age, because to cultivate a composer it takes years and years and hundreds of thousands of hours of practice. So we have to start really young, and so, for example, Sundance, they've already done it: they take fifty percent women, fifty percent men right off the top. I'd love to see that within my own performance rights organization, ASCAP, do the same thing.

Also, I speak at different universities, and when I go and I see just one or two women in the audience. And I would like to see more women admitted to those programs because it is the people coming out of those programs that are getting the bulk of work. I mean, there is a whole other group of musicians that are artists and you know, do pop and rock and jazz that turn to scoring. But having that incredible foundation of music education is very essential to get a bulk of the work done.

And then the last thing, I think, is not assuming that because we're women, people tell us that we only write a certain type of music. For example, people assume, "Well if your last name is this, then you only write that type of music from your cultural background", and that is completely not the case. Most composers write all kinds of music from a variety of styles. So, I think that would be good.

If you were to give advice for someone who wants to get into your shoes and break into the composing world, what would it be?

Debney: Wow, that's a class right there. I would tell younger composers to study, study, study. Meaning really learn the task of, you know, learn counterpoint, learn harmony, learn orchestration, right Germaine? It's incredible to have a musical gift, but I think just to stand the test of time and have longevity, the more well-rounded you are as a musician, the better.

I look at Germaine, Germaine is a wonderful instrumentalist and a brilliant composer. And I think that the more we learn and the more we do and running to different styles, I think that all helps.

Franco: Oh, I agree. I've worked with many interns and composers graduating from Bachelors and Graduate degrees. And the thing that separates the ones that I want to work with on my team and the ones that I would say need more work is exactly what John said: harmony, orchestrations. Because you've got to learn to work with a full orchestra.

And it's fantastic to have all of the software down. You must have the technical, but you can't just be technical. You have to have both. You have to have a musical background. So, not just listening to film composing, or scores, you got to listen to the basics and learn all the Western harmony. And then also study the music of other cultures outside the Western realm. Because there are thousands of new composers coming out every year, and so in order to differentiate yourself from the others, the ones that have the most musical skills and technical skills are the ones that I want to work with.

Debney: I would add one thing. I think Germaine is right. Especially now, we're certainly more global-oriented in terms of all the new things that are happening both for men and women composers. And I think studying other cultures and other cultures' art and music is an intentional thing. And I would just add that. I love that thought.

Boots to the Rescue!: 'Dora and the Lost City of Gold' Actor Danny Trejo Helps Save Child Trapped in Overturned Car in Sylmar, Los Angeles

From Machete to real-life hero, actor Danny Trejo, one of Hollywood's best-known villains, helped rescue a young special-needs child trapped in an overturned car in Sylmar, Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 7, 2019!

It wasn't a stunt for an upcoming movie. It happened in real life on Wednesday. The actor jumped into action after witnessing two vehicles crash causing one to rollover. The overturned vehicle that was sitting on its roof still had a baby strapped into a car seat inside.

Trejo, who also starred in From Dusk Till Dawn, Heat, Con Air, Spy Kids, The Devil’s Rejects and hundreds more, happened to be in the area when two cars collided Wednesday afternoon in the area of Hubbard Street and Jackman Avenue, ABC 7 writes with Trejo telling on-site reporters that one of the cars ran a red light.

“One of the vehicles overturned onto its roof and a young child was trapped inside, strapped into a car seat. Trejo and another bystander [Monica Jackson] helped rescue the child,” explains the site.

“Trejo crawled into the overturned wreckage from one side, he recalled, but he couldn’t unbuckle the child’s car seat from that angle.”

“The other bystander, a young woman, crawled in from the other side of the overturned vehicle and was able to undo the buckle. Trejo was then able to get the baby out of the car seat and pulled safely from the wreckage.”

“While that was happening, the boy’s grandmother remained trapped in the driver’s seat. Firefighters had to use equipment to free her.”

“Trejo says while the firefighters were working to free the woman, he was trying to distract the boy from the scene.”

"The only thing that saved the little kid was his car seat," Trejo told a photographer on the scene.

The Los Angeles Fire Department told CNN affiliate KABC that three people were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not life threatening.

Thanks to his work with special-needs children, Trejo knew how to keep the boy calm.

“He was panicked,” Trejo told reporters. “I said OK, we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers,” Trejo added. “I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles.'”

“We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident.”

Trejo can next be seen, er, heard as the voice of Boots the Monkey in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Players' brand-new live-action movie inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved Dora the Explorer animated preschool series, which sees an older Dora (Isabela Moner) go on all-new adventures, in theatres Friday, August 9, 2019!

Original post:

July 22, 2019 - Bikini Bottom is officially making its debut on land — and on the basketball court. Taking Kyrie’s love for Nickelodeon's beloved animated series and fusing it into his shoe, the Nike Kyrie x SpongeBob SquarePants collection is ready for on-court action, and of course, jellyfishing.

SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs and Sandy Cheeks all have their own iteration of the shoe built off their unique characteristics. The star of the show, SpongeBob, has a version featuring a porous bright-yellow upper with a brown and red sole symbolic of his everyday outfit. The lovable best friend Patrick Star is known for his cheery pink coloring and green tonal shorts, both of which are represented in his shoe. In Squidward’s, his recognizable seafoam green coloring is prevalent and his typical callous expression can be found inside the heel. Mr. Krabs and Sandy both have low versions of the shoe, incorporating their signature colors and styles.

The Nike Kyrie x SpongeBob SquarePants Collection releases globally August 10.

Which pair(s) are you planning to get? Let me know in the comments!

Update (7/27): A detailed look at Kyrie Irving‘s Nike collaboration with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants has just been released. Joining Bleacher Report for its footwear-focused series B/R Kicks, Irving unveils and then breaks down the meaning behind the “SpongeBob,” “Patrick Star,” “Squidward Tentacles,” “Mr. Krabs” and “Sandy Cheeks” colorways that are part of his forthcoming “SpongeBob” pack.

The video goes on to reveal that Irving has been following the cartoon since its debut in 1999, as well as why he continues to look to the animated series for inspiration and life lessons — he can even be heard whistling the show’s theme song near the end of the video. If you watch closely at the 6:20 mark, there’s also a colorway that hasn’t been shown before, one that closely resembles SpongeBob’s iconic 124 Conch Street pineapple house.

What Did You Think of 'Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling'? | Nick Fan Poll

What did you think of Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling? Vote in the poll and sound off in the comments below! Nickelodeon's brand-new TV movie is available to stream on Netflix everywhere today!

In Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, picking up over two decades after the 1996 finale of the original series, after being in space for around 20 years, Rocko, Heffer, Filburt, and Spunky attempt to conform to an even more modern life in O-Town, where coffee shops are on every corner, food trucks offer multi-layered tacos, touch-screen O-Phones are being upgraded on a near-constant basis, an instant-print kiosk has replaced Rocko’s old job at Kind-of-a-Lot-O-Comics, and radioactive energy drinks turn their consumers into mutants! The movie will also feature a prominent trans story arc, in which Rocko tries to get his beloved series The Fatheads back on TV!

Created by Joe Murray and originally airing from 1993-1996, the animated series Rocko’s Modern Life follows the adventures of an Australian wallaby named Rocko and his two companions, Heffer and Filburt, through their adventures in their home of O-Town. Just like the original ‘90s series, "Static Cling" is hand-drawn special that stars Rocko, a wallaby who emigrated from Australia to the United States and enjoys the simple things in life; Heffer, Rocko’s best friend; Filburt, Rocko’s other best friend; and Ed Bighead and Bev Bighead, Rocko’s neighbors; as well as the other colorful characters.

The voice actors reprising their famed roles include: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko, Spunky, and Leon; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Heffer Wolfe, Chuck, and Really Really Big Man; Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Filburt Turtle and Maitre D’; Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe, and Mrs. Fathead; Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie, executive producer) as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Nosey and Joe Murray as Ralph. Additionally, Steve Little (Adventure Time) joins the cast as Cowboy and Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, director) as Pillow Salesman. The movie will also feature Tom Smith as the voice of Really Really Really Big Man, and Dan Becker as the voice of Rabbit Dad.

The show launched the careers of noted voice actors Tom Kenny and Carlos Alazraqui; after the show’s cancelation, much of the creative talent moved on to SpongeBob SquarePants, the hit show created by Rocko creative director Stephen Hillenburg.

Nickelodeon USA to Premiere 'Middle School Moguls' in September 2019

Nickelodeon USA will start to premiere Middle School Moguls, a series of four brand-new CG-animated half-hour specials, in September 2019!

Middle School Moguls is inspired by the concept created by Gina and Jenae Heitkamp, who also serve as co-executive producers. The specials chronicle the ambitions of four new friends striving to create their own companies while attending Mogul Academy, an entrepreneurial school where kid-business dreams come true. They follow students Valeria (voiced by Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez), Winnie (Daniella Perkins, Knight Squad, Blurt!), Celeste (Jade Pettyjohn, School of Rock) and Yuna (Haley Tju, Bella & the Bulldogs), who are empowered by Mogul Academy to test their business creativity, innovation and grit, but being a kid boss comes with grown-up challenges so they’ll have to think outside of the box and “mogulize” if they want to make their big dreams a reality.

Additional voice cast includes Tim Gunn (Project Runway) as Wren, a non-binary teacher in the Mogul Academy Fashion Branch, and Jane Lynch (Glee, iCarly) as Victoria Steele, the Headmaster of Mogul Academy. Additional casting news to come.

Update (8/9) - To celebrate the all-new series, Just Jared Jr. has unveiled a super first-look at the show, which you can watch here on JustJaredJr.com!

“We’re thrilled to partner with Gina and Jenae Heitkamp to bring Middle School Moguls to life on screen and to showcase authentic stories that speak to today’s generation of ambitious kids,” said Chris Viscardi, who was Nickelodeon's Senior Vice President (SVP) of Animation Production and Development at the time of the announcement in September 2018. Chris (The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Sanjay and Craig, KaBlam!) has since moved into a producer role for the network, overseeing the creation of feature-length animated content for both Nickelodeon and third-party digital and linear platforms.

“Kids today are learning about entrepreneurial opportunities at a much younger age. They want to start their own business and make business playful and empowering. They believe nothing is unattainable. Middle School Moguls taps into this entrepreneurial movement – building businesses based on kids’ unique skills, boundless inventiveness and taking action to pursue their passions.”

Check out Gina and Jenae Heitkamp's awesome interview with Thrive Global, in which they announce the exciting news, below!:

Gina and Jenae Heitkamp of GenGirl Media: “With Middle School Moguls we started a movement to introduce the empowering idea of entrepreneurship and being your own boss to a younger generation.”

I think that idea for us is truly Middle School Moguls. It’s introducing the empowering idea of entrepreneurship and being your own boss to a younger generation. Whether that’s running and Etsy store or being the CEO and founder of a media company, it’s about creating your own reality. And one amazing thing about the next generation of business moguls is that they have a focus on giving back. It’s no longer just about profits, it’s also about changing the world for the better — and we focus on that in the show.

I had the pleasure to interview Gina and Jenae Heitkamp. Gina Heitkamp is the Chief Executive Officer and Jenae Heitkamp is the Chief Innovation Officer of GenGirl Media, Inc., an entertainment company that creates engaging television programming and captivating “Me Media” toys that focus on the fun and whimsy of childhood while keeping in mind today’s tech and media savvy kids. The Heitkamp entrepreneurs and sisters are Co-Creators and Executive Producers of “Middle School Moguls,” a new CG-animated series of television specials premiering on Nickelodeon in September 2019. The TV specials chronicle the ambitions of four new friends attending Mogul Academy, an entrepreneurial school where kid-business dreams come true. They follow students Valeria, voiced by Olympic gold medal gymnast Laurie Hernandez); Winnie, voiced by Daniella Perkins (“Knight Squad”); Celeste voiced by Jade Pettyjohn (“School of Rock”) and Yuna voiced by Haley Tju, (“Bella & the Bulldogs), who are empowered by Mogul Academy to test their business creativity, innovation and grit. Actress Jane Lynch (“Glee”) plays Victoria Steele, the Headmaster of Mogul Academy. Tim Gunn (Project Runway) as Wren, a non-binary teacher in the Mogul Academy Fashion Branch. “Middle School Moguls” was conceived a when Jenae was working as a school counselor in Los Angeles inner-city schools. Jenae decided that she wanted to make stories and toys with fun characters for young girls that also were inspirational. She pitched the idea to Gina, who was working on her master’s degree in business at the University of California, Irvine. The sisters entered the idea into the University of Irvine’s business plan competition and were the first female team in the University’s history to be awarded the grand prize. With the awarded seed money, they created their first product — Middle School Mogul dolls (formally called iBesties). By 2016 the idea had blossomed into a book and doll line for Target. With the success of the dolls came an offer in 2018 from Nickelodeon, to expand the brand into animation programming. Prior to co-founding Gengirl Media, Inc., Gina built her own go-to-market consulting company, Creative Kick-Off. She consulted on product and technology launches for a wide range of businesses. During her undergraduate education she worked on the U.S. product launches of Red Bull and Vitaminwater. Jenae Heitkamp, Chief Innovation Officer, has a background as a marriage and family therapist. She received her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton and went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, in addition to a certificate in play therapy.

Thank you so much for joining us Gina and Jenae! Can you tell us the story of how you grew up?
We grew up in a working-class neighborhood. Our dad worked for a machine manufacturer and our mom was a special education teacher’s aide. We lived in a two-bedroom apartment and always shared a room. There were many other kids living in the apartment complex and our best childhood memories were playing with all the kids in the common spaces. So much of our imagination and storytelling came from those experiences. Our entrepreneurial spirit was born there too. We made up dances with the other kids and charged the neighbors to watch us. We also sold lemonade, of course.

Can you share a story with us about what brought you to this specific career path?
It was really a thousand tiny steps. With Middle School Moguls, we wanted to share this entrepreneurial “you can do it” message with kids, and at first it was a book. From there we thought, “How can we elevate a book?” The answer was to make a doll. Then we thought, “How can we make a great doll?” Through research and trial and error we found out. Next, we wondered how we could reach as many kids possible. The answer was selling into big box stores. Finally, we asked ourselves how we could get the message out even further, and the answer was children’s media. We just kept asking ourselves questions, then finding the answers. We both pinch ourselves daily when we realize how far we’ve come.

Can you tell us the most interesting story that happened to you since you began your career?
Creating animation is actually really interesting in itself. Coming into the industry, we didn’t have any knowledge of how the production end of media worked. It has been incredibly interesting to be involved in every step of the process from storyboarding to working with the composer on the score. One of our favorite parts was working with casting to find the best young moguls to represent the characters in the brand. We are beyond thrilled to have such amazing people voicing our characters.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
When we first decided to make a doll, we hired a toy engineer and worked with her for months to create what we thought was the perfect rendering of a doll. We then found someone on Craigslist with a 3D printer and sent him the file. The doll was printed in plastic and we glued a tiny wig to her head. We were so proud of that doll. One day, on the way to a big pitch, we stopped for lunch and left her on the dashboard. When we got back in the car she was completely melted. Needless to say, she didn’t end up attending the meeting with us! In that experience, we learned that sometimes it’s best just to laugh at your mistakes. Honestly, we still crack up every time we see a photo of that first melted doll.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?
We are so excited about Middle School Moguls airing this September on Nickelodeon! We have other stuff in the pipeline, but Moguls will always be our first baby.

I’m very interested in diversity in the entertainment industry. Can you share three reasons with our readers about why you think it’s important to have diversity represented in film and television? How can that potentially affect our culture?
Jenae speaking — I’ve spent my career working with kids in diverse neighborhoods and my own children are bi-racial/bi-cultural. I want all of kids to feel seen, heard and represented. Growing up my favorite show was Different Strokes because they lived in an apartment like I did. Now that I’m older I realize it was a penthouse and that’s pretty different. But I remember feeling that connection at the time.

We recently attended a symposium where the speaker said, “The easiest place to change the nation’s narrative is in movies and television. Since it’s imaginary we can change the narrative tomorrow if we want.” That was so powerful to hear.

Gina speaking — There have been many studies that show that media has an important role in shaping identity and confidence even at a young age. That is one of the reasons we worked with the Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media on Middle School Moguls. Our aim was to show as much representation as possible so that our viewers can each find a character to relate to and be inspired by.

Another reason it is so important to have diversity represented in children’s media is to increase empathy and reduce stereotypes. Early exposure to diverse characters can help reduce future prejudices. We hope that we can have a hand in creating children’s media, like Middle School Moguls, that help kids to grow up to be open-minded, accepting adults.

From your personal experience, can you recommend three things the community/society/the industry can do help address some of the diversity issues in the entertainment business?

1. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas or stories. Even if you don’t have the experience, still share it and you might be surprised who it resonates with.

2. Support shows and media that are inclusive in meaningful ways.

3. Continue the conversation by asking questions just like this one.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why. Please share a story or example for each.

1. Not everyone is going to be nice (and that’s ok!). When we were doing our Kickstarter we got our first press. We were shocked reading some of the negative comments. It was our first experience being public with our idea and we tried to respond to people’s negativity with thoughtful answers. Finally, we learned to just let it go, but admittedly it took awhile.

2. Some of the biggest mistakes will make the funniest stories. There are so many things that seemed dramatic at the time that now we laugh about. When we give talks our mistakes are actually some of our favorite things to talk about because they’re so cringe-worthy.

3. Work with people you like. This seems obvious but everyone we work with or partner with, we genuinely like. Even if there’s a bigger more well-known company, we’ll partner with a smaller one if we get along with them better. For example, when our dolls were being warehoused our little warehouse threw us a welcome party when the shipping container arrived. They had balloons, banners and everything! It is still one of the more touching memories. It makes everything better when you have a good, supportive team.

4. Have good contracts. We’re both naturally very trusting people and often go on people’s word. We’ve learned along the way how important having things in writing actually is.

5. Enjoy the ride. Mothers are often told to enjoy every moment because it goes so fast, yet we don’t see entrepreneurs being given the same advice. We wish someone would’ve told us that we’re in for the ride of our lives and to hold and tight and enjoy.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
For other entrepreneurs, I would say to give it six more months. There were so many times we felt stuck but then six months later we were in a totally different place.

You are people of enormous influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
Jenae speaking — There are so many but Michael Connolly, from Retail Monster, comes to mind. We had heard Michael, who comes from the entertainment industry, speak at a convention in Vegas. We went up to him after he spoke and pitched our idea. We had nothing but a business card; no drawings, nothing written down, nothing. He called us the next week and told us he liked our idea. We were on cloud nine. We kept in touch and a couple years later, when our dolls were being sold in Target he introduced us to Nickelodeon.

Gina speaking — For me it’s not so much a person that helped but an institution. We came up with the idea for Middle School Moguls while I was getting my MBA at the University of California, Irvine. We ended up entering the idea in the business plan competition and winning the grand prize. The prize money was enough to get our first doll prototype made. After that, the university offered us free work space, mentorship and even introduced us to our first investors. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful people there that still help our business grow to this day.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
Jenae speaking — I have so many, but there was one in particular when I was trying to decide if I should leave my job/career to pursue making Middle School Moguls. It was a hard decision because I had a child already and it meant upheaval, moving, less money etc. Around that time I saw a quote that said “Jump and the net will appear,” and that did it for me.

Gina speaking — In the beginning of Middle School Moguls, as it was gaining traction, I dealt with a lot of imposter syndrome. I didn’t feel like we should be having success and reaching these great goals because we had no experience or training in the industry. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and for something to go terribly wrong. At some point in the journey I heard the quote, “Why not me? Why not now?” and it really resonated with me. I still use it as an affirmation to this day.

Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we tag them. 🙂
Jenae speaking — Oprah all the way. I love that she has used her voice to place positive, empowering messages into the world.

Gina speaking — I would love to have a private breakfast with Shonda Rhymes. She is a social justice advocate and one of the most creative and dynamic showrunners of all time. I’d love for us to one day become the Shonda Rhymes of children’s media.

Guys, I'm honored to bring you a VERY SPECIAL part one of a two part Q and A, with THE CREATORS OF GLITCH TECHS! Dan Milano, and Eric Robles! Dan's will be today, Eric's will be tomorrow at the EXACT SAME TIME.

Glitch Tech's is a new series coming to Nickelodeon, which they've co-created. And t find out more about the creators, and the show themselves, I won't wait any longer. Here is my Q and A, and a definite must read, with Dan Milano.

Q: What was your start in the Animation Industry?

A: My start in the entertainment industry in general was back in 1998, co-creating and performing the puppet character “Greg the Bunny,” for New York City public access TV. This led to writing/producing short films featuring Greg and other puppets for the Independent Film Channel and adapting it as a prime time series for Fox (and later, MTV.) The experience led to many opportunities in features and television, including writing and performing for the animated series, ROBOT CHICKEN. Many of the relationships forged at RC would lead me to more animation jobs, writing and performing on shows like Sonic Boom, Star Wars Detours, King Julien and Dawn of the Croods.

Q: What was your first big Project in the Animation Industry?

A: Star Wars Detours was a huge opportunity to work on a major franchise and also involved a lot of detailed world-building. Due to my involvement on Seth Green’s Robot Chicken Star Wars specials, I’d been offered a Story Editor position on the show. Unfortunately it required leaving LA, (which I was unwilling to do,) so the job went to Brendan Hay, who was kind enough to bring me on as a writer. Season one was the greatest summer camp in the universe - going on writers retreats at Skywalker ranch with amazing people like Jane Espenson (Buffy,) Chris McCullough (Venture Bros,) Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty,) and my pals from Robot Chicken. We’d write all day in the main house and hang at night watching movies in George’s screening room. Brendan Hay presided over writers room with Seth Green and George himself would join us to hang out a few hours each day.

I cannot divulge details of the show, which got locked in the Lucasfilm vault after the Disney buyout, but it definitely had more sophistication to it than most of the trailers online were making it appear. The job required building, expanding and re-imagining aspects of the Star Wars universe, which the detail freak in me really enjoyed. I also observed the pleasures and pitfalls of filtering all those different writers’ tastes and tones (including George’s,) into something cohesive. Although I was just a writer, I paid attention to how the production team was conserving their CGI assets and tried to be sensitive to it in some of the scripts.

After the series was shelved, Brendan Hay went on to develop Dreamworks’ “The Croods” as a 2D animated series for Netflix, which was another world-building experience that expanded on the original movie. Besides being fun, it was another chance to soak up information on how a brand new series develops and manages its assets. This plus my experiences scratching and performing vocals on shows would help me greatly in prepping for my co-production with Eric Robles, which we began developing while I was still at Croods.

Q: Dan, what were your other works that fans might know you from before Glitch Techs? How did each project differ and help your development as a creator, writer, etc.??

A: The original Greg the Bunny productions (IFC, 1999-2006) co-created with director Sean Baker (The Florida Project, Tangerine) were down and dirty guerilla-style shorts that we shot, edited and directed ourselves with our friend Spencer Chinoy. There was a lot of discovery just experimenting with different ideas. Some days I’d perform the puppet and improv with people on the streets of New York, other days we shoot them against small sets that we built cheaply in my studio apartment. Just like animation, puppetry requires very deliberate use of your frame, forcing you to really make the most of compositions, backgrounds, props, music and FX to sell your illusion. Like animators, puppeteers also strive to create nuanced movements that simulate life - they just typically do it in real time.

The FOX version of Greg the Bunny, which I still can’t believe was a thing, was a multi-million dollar production (run by Modern Family’s Steven Levitan,) that exposed me to studio machinations, dealing with executives, standards and practices, unions, working with other actors and the management of a massive crew. Unlike the IFC experience, it was an extremely structured process that did not allow for much improvisation. I learned the pros and pitfalls of creative compromise; essential to healthy production but lethal if done without a clear and common goal. I really took away a sense of how I wanted to manage and inspire others going forward and of how generally brief and fleeting studio productions could be. I’d never take one for granted again.

Back in 2004, a friend and I sold a feature script to Sony Pictures that led to years of screenwriting jobs adapting and developing scripts, outlines and pitches for major studios and production companies. (A reboot of Short Circuit being one of the more prominent.) A great deal of that time was spent writing for producers like Laura Ziskin (Spider-Man 1-3,) Lauren Schuler Donner (X-Men,) Stan Winston (FX creator,) and Jenna Boyd (Nickelodeon,) all of whom drummed into me the hardest lesson, which was the importance of continually refining and rewriting your work. Writing is hard, and screenwriting without a partner can be very lonely. You get antsy, you get desperate for your project to move to the next stage and you loathe sitting back down to rewrite the same script yet again — but until you find the very heart of a story, the reason you are telling it, the reason others will connect with it - you will not have a story worthy of being green-lit. Time and again, the frustration I felt at being forced to rewrite was usually overshadowed by the pride I felt upon completing superior and more detailed versions of each script.

In 2010 MTV bought a spinoff series of Greg the Bunny called, “Warren the Ape,” which was about another puppet character (again performed by me,) who was trying to put his TV career back together while through rehab. The show was largely improvisational, relying on improv acting and editing to shape the stories. Although there were times I wished we’d had more structure, there was nothing like the energy and enthusiasm that came from active, creative collaboration— something I was really missing during the long, solitary process of feature writing. I knew I wanted to work with other artists and to share in the creative process.

This led me to work with friends like Seth Green and Rachel Bloom on a pilot for Adult Swim called “Team Unicorn,” with folks like Brendan Hay on “Star Wars Detours” and “Dawn of the Croods,” and then with this guy Eric Robles on an animated adaptation of a video game called “Monkey Quest,” for Nickelodeon.

Q: How did the idea of Glitch Techs come to be, how did it develop into what it is now?

A: I’d already been working with Eric Robles on another project when he asked me for some feedback on the initial idea he’d had of two friends working a Tech Support job where they go up against real-life video game characters. He was definitely asking the right person, because my whole life I’ve been an obsessed fan (props, cosplay, RPGs) of supernatural comedies like Ghostbusters — so I’d already amassed half a lifetime’s worth of ideas for just that kind of project. After responding with about twelve or so single-spaced pages of notes and suggestions, Eric invited me to partner with him on developing the idea.

The high concept show premise obviously had great commercial appeal, but I’d say the majority of our work in development was to elevate it beyond that. We talked a lot about the shows and movies we loved growing up - how they made us feel and why we still held onto those feelings. We wanted the Glitch Tech world to feel real and attainable to kids. For our characters to feel like people they already knew, people they saw every day. The show needed to be grounded in a plausible reality, so its fantastic elements would seem all the more special. And believe me when I say we both revere animation in all its forms, but I have to admit, there were days when we dared to say the show needed to feel like more than just a “cartoon.”

We brought on collaborators we felt had strengths and skillsets well beyond our own. Our supervising director Ian Graham (a hardcore gamer,) had an amazing eye for board talent and a long history on amazing series such as Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. He and our astounding lead designer Scott Kikuta already had experience in the gaming industries, but we also wanted a mix of directors, artists and designers with traditional and gaming backgrounds. For writing, I called in every favor I could to put together a think tank containing some amazing collaborators — I don’t think I can say their names until Nickelodeon does an official press release but I’m talking about people who’d already created their own amazing shows like “The Guild,” “Legend of Neil,” “Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin,” “Gortimer Gibbons, Life on Normal Street,” etc. Plus one of the most well-loved programmers/developers in the gaming culture, who has shipped more than 120 games and worked on every platform since the original GameBoy.

Q: Can you give us any potential insight into the plot of the show? Maybe if there are any particular episodes to watch out for without saying anything specific??

A: Since I unfortunately can’t say any more right now on what the show actually is (Nickelodeon has not yet made any kind of official press annoucnement,) I can at least tell you what the show is not. Thanks to the very thoughtful work of everyone involved, literally from the network executive in charge (Megan Casey) down to every one of our amazing production assistants, Glitch Techs is not a show about mindless, monster-of-the-week adventures. It is not about pandering to, or disrespecting nerd culture, gamer culture or the intelligence of its audience. It is not about relying on nostalgia to form a bond with the audience. Glitch Techs is a love letter to both the gaming culture and the movies and shows we all loved growing up, with characters whom many of our collaborators wished they could have had as television role models growing up. Its also definitely not boring. :)
You probably can't say much about this next part, but the news broke that Glitch Techs Season 2 had halted production. News sites covered it and the potential it could bring. But is it really as bad as it's been made out to be??

The truth is that situations like these are unfortunately very common in animation, which makes us grateful that we’d had time to develop any second season content (and man do we have some amazing stuff finished already.) From what I saw, the coverage was pretty fair and I’m aligned with Eric Robles and artists like Phil Jacobsen, who have responded to it all in their statements online - we’re genuinely grateful to Nickelodeon for every opportunity we have been given. Our understanding is that the show will get an enthusiastic launch and we will just need to stand on the twenty episodes we’ve created to see if it connects with its audience. Of course none of us can predict the future but I can tell you that I think I speak for everyone involved when I say that Eric and I have never been prouder of anything we have worked on. We can literally do no better, so we are more than happy to rest the fate of the series on these twenty shows.

Q: When news broke about Glitch Techs production halt, an outcry of support came from Animation fans, including when things like the intro were uploaded and shown. How does it make you feel to see such an outcry of support and hope for this series success, when it hasn't even aired an episode yet??

A: It honestly moves me to tears. Losing the crew so suddenly was obviously very emotional. They were also the only people besides Eric, myself and a few Nickelodeon insiders to know this project existed at all. Next only to our families it has been the sole focus of four years of hard, precision work. To see the work embraced so passionately by fans, the exact people we set out to impress in the first place, was frankly just what we needed. Even a good deal of the negative comments were smart and justifiably cynical. I was proud of the artists who politely spoke up to discourse with fans and the fact that so many people seem to thirst for original (non-licensed,) ideas in the marketplace.

As for the leak, even though I’m a fanboy at heart I have to put on my producer cap and say I honestly can’t encourage that kind of thing. It really is playing with fire. I am however deeply honored at the response its gotten. An original IP, with zero awareness in the marketplace being passed around for no reason other than its spirit and quality validates our assumption that people want a show like this in the world as much as we do. And believe me when I say, they haven’t even yet scratched the surface of what the show has in store for them.

Q: What mark do you hope that Glitch Techs leaves on Nickelodeon and the people who watch it?

A: With Nickelodeon and the industry, I hope it leaves the mark that original IP can be just as powerful if not more than a recognizable brand. That it examples what can be accomplished if you tear down the walls both within the production and studio to be inclusive and work together as a whole. I hope it cements the idea that animated shows can be action-packed without sacrificing character, sophisticated without being dark, earnest without being corny and intelligent without losing younger audiences.

With the people watching I hope Glitch Techs makes them feel understood, appreciated, and above all, entertained. We had the time of our lives making it and it’d be a shame if that joy did not translate through to the audience.

Q: Not a question but I really thank you for holding this Q and A with me, it means a lot to talk to people like yourselves, you give a ton of insight and I know people will appreciate it!

A: Thank you so much for asking. We appreciate your interest and in getting the word out for us. Cable is a very insular platform to be on these days. We can only hope enough people hear about us and become willing to come looking for us when the time comes. If not, it wont be for a lack of trying. :)

Best to you,
Dan Milano

This was an honor and privilege for me to get to do you guys. I hope you give it the love it deserves, just like Glitch Techs deserves as well. Share it around, comment your thoughts, and as always, thank you guys so much for your support here and on Twitter, for making stuff like this possible, you're all awesome.

Tomorrow, the Q and A continues with the other creative half of the series, Eric Robles!!

###

If you would have told me five years ago I'd be doing a Q and A with the creator of Fanboy and Chum Chum, I'd think you were insane... turns out, you aren't, because here it is, my second part of the Glitch Techs Q and A, with Eric Robles!

We talk about his start, Fanboy and Chum Chum and some of the more prominent rumors about the show, and so much more about Glitch Techs, it's a MUST READ, so I hope you take the time to do so. Let's get right into it!

Q: What was your start in the Animation Industry?

A: As a kid all I ever dreamed about was working in animation. As I became a teenager I finally realized there was no way my parents could afford to send me to art college, so I decided to enroll myself in community college and study Law Enforcement. But even during the two years I was taking classes, I never stopped sketching and drawing. So, one day my instructor Joe Dean (a police officer in Burbank, CA) complimented my drawings and asked me why I was majoring in law enforcement when I had such a skill for drawing. I told him I didn’t think I was good enough and that I really had no idea how anybody even got work in animation, so he was nice enough to introduce me to his sister-in-law, who turned out to be the President of Graz Entertainment, the animation studio that then made animated series like the original 90’s X Men , The Tick, Capcom’s Street Fighter and more! She had her people take a look at one of my sketch books and the next thing I knew they offered me my first internship. I was so thankful for the opportunity that I made a vow to myself to commit myself to the work and never stop drawing so that I could always be improving. Because I was always at the office and leaving my work on my boss’ desk for him to see, it actually only took a few weeks before I managed to get hired on full time as a character designer and clean up artist for all those amazing shows.

Q: The first big project we saw from you Eric was Fanboy and Chum Chum. How did the idea for that show develop and come to be??

A: At the time I was working for Nickelodeon on a show created by Carlos Ramos called The X’s. One day I received a call from Fred Seibert of Frederator Studios. He had heard of my work and wanted to meet with me. After a wonderful lunch meeting he asked if I would pitch a show to his shorts program. I was honored but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to pitch so I went home and asked myself what type of cartoon I would I love to create with such a great opportunity like this. I wrote a list of all the things I loved about being a kid — Watching cartoons, reruns of the old live action Batman series, hanging out with my friends at the local convenient store, playing arcade games and drinking sugary, frozen beverages all day. So, the initial ideas for Fanboy & Chum Chum were really just built in celebration of all those fun, silly things I loved about being a kid. With all that in mind I began to sketch and write about these kids that lived on their own and loved wearing their Halloween costumes all year round. Once you have the characters you just start to unleash them in all kinds of crazy adventures.

Q: How did you pitch Fanboy and Chum Chum to Nickelodeon? There has been a long standing rumor that they actually chose it for their network over a fledgeling Adventure Time, is there any truth to that?

A: Pitches are done visually so I storyboarded a short pitch of the characters to Frederator, who already had a deal with Nickelodeon that year to produce 39 shorts. Thankfully, my idea was one of the lucky ones to have gotten chosen.

The rumor comes from the fact that the pitch for Adventure Time was in the same batch of ideas, and Nickelodeon passed on it. Looking back, I truly believe it was the best thing that could have happened for both shows. Obviously, I’m happy with how things went for Fanboy and I believe that if things hadn’t gone the way they did for Adventure Time, it might have not turned out to be the same show everyone knows and loves today. It was also so huge for Cartoon Network, who were looking for a new network identity at the time. Who knows what changes they would have made if the success of Adventure Time hadn’t helped them define such a major part of their brand?

Q: Fanboy and Chum Chum of course got some positive reception, but it also did get a lot of negativity towards it for a number of reasons. Some quite brutal, though some constructive criticism. Did you ever see any of that and if so, how did you take it?

A: I’m guessing most of the negative responses came from teens and adults with internet access who wanted a much different kind of show from Nickelodeon than the one we were making. While obviously I would have loved for all ages to have gotten on board with the show, all that really mattered to me was what the kids thought. Fanboy and Chum Chum premiered with a total of 5.8 million viewers and gained a strong following amongst kids 2 to 11 years of age. As far as I knew our weekly ratings we were doing great and Nickelodeon was happy enough to give us a second season. I specifically remember our first Comic Con with the show and the amount of kids that showed up for the Q&A session and signing. You have to remember, the show was about that same little kid I used to be at their age. Fanboy was trying to be on their level and as far as I’m concerned it succeeded at that. You know, as professional artists we are sometimes so disconnected from the fans. But when you are able to see all the positivity and joy you can bring to kids with your silly cartoon, its all you really hold onto. The negativity just fades away.

Q: What are some things you are most proud if with Fanboy and Chum Chum in the end?

A: There are so many things I am proud of with Fanboy and Chum Chum. There were so many challenges the production had to overcome. I’d set out with the goal of creating a real classic Looney Toons squash and stretch look, which was extremely ambitious for CG animation. I’m proud of my amazing crew, who figured ways to accomplish this style without the CG puppet rigs constantly breaking which was a seriously big deal back in those days. It was one of so many things people told us ‘couldn’t be done’ that we ended up finding clever ways of doing. I’m proud the show aired domestically and internationally, managing to sell toys, books, backpacks etc. It won 5 Emmy awards including one for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program. And coming up on TEN years since the show first premiered, I’m not only proud but truly happy that I get so many messages on social media from fans who enjoyed the show when they were kids and still do today.

Q: What was the interim between Fanboy and Chum Chum and Glitch Techs like? What were you doing projects wise? Anything of note??

A: After Fanboy and Chum Chum I was put on an Overall Deal at Nickelodeon, which means I would either help to develop current projects they needed help with, or by developing my own original ideas. One of the projects I was asked to help with was a game property that Nickelodeon owned called ”Monkey Quest.” It already had a pretty decent fan base online so I spent a few months working on it and once I pitched my idea on what a story would be, they liked it and asked me to start interviewing screenwriters to develop the script. This is where I first met Dan Milano, who would become my creative partner on Glitch Techs. Dan was working over at Dreamworks TV on King Julien and Dawn of The Croods at the time but was available to freelance on Monkey Quest with me. Right from the get I knew Dan and I would make a great team. We finished each others sentences and he could look at all my doodles and make sense of the stories I was trying to tell. We developed the project for about six months and it was coming out fantastic, but in that time Nickelodeon let Dan and I know the hype on the game was declining and they didn’t feel as confident about producing a show for it anymore.

As Dan continued with his other work for the time being, the studio asked me to focus on developing an original short for them. At the time these shorts weren’t really meant as series pitches, but as experimental bumpers you might possibly see in-between commercials or online. As I began work on a few ideas, an executive at Nickelodeon named Mary Harrington saw a sketch I’d done of two Zombie Brothers. After pitching her and Jenna Boyd the head of Development the idea, we produced it as my first stop motion short with Screen Novelties.

When that was completed, I spent a few months developing more original ideas for series, including two very cool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spin offs that have never seen the light of day, mostly because as they were being developed I also started working on an idea about these two blue-collar game technicians who secretly fought video game monsters that spawned from faulty game consoles...

Q: How did the idea of Glitch Techs come to be, how did it develop into what it is now, and was pitching it to Nickelodeon different from how Fanboy and Chum Chum was pitched??

A: Just like back at Graz Entertainment, I was always drawing, night and day. I’d fill cardboard boxes with sketches and doodles, then store them away and start on the next box. Each time I’d write “Box of Ideas,” on the side and sometimes friends who visited my office would shuffle through it while we hung out. Well one evening, Russell Hicks, the head of the studio, stopped by my office. He’d often come around if he was working late to see who was still in the studio and —surprise— he almost always found me there. Anyway, he asked to dig through the box a bit and he dug up a storyboard that I had sketched up for Glitch Techs. He asked me to pitch it to him, so I did, right there in the moment. Thankfully he loved it and asked me to stop whatever else I was doing to focus on the idea. It was an entirely different situation than how Fanboy got started, showing there is no one way to pitch a show, but the key to both of them was that they were based on ideas I’d been constantly working on and developing. You just never know when the perfect opportunity will strike so you should always be developing your ideas because when that opportunity finally happens, you want to be ready.

Q: How would you tell fans that Glitch Techs is different from your previous works, like Fanboy and Chum Chum?

A: Glitch Techs is very different. Fanboy was a silly, eleven minute comedy with what I call a ‘reset button,’ meaning that no matter what happened in those eleven minute adventures, (even if you blew up the planet,) every thing would be back to normal by the start of the next episode. With Glitch Techs, we really wanted to engage the audience in a different way. I wanted to go back to my action adventure roots and tell twenty-two minute stories that were more meaningful, with plenty of character and story growth throughout the series.

Q: Can you give us any potential insight into the plot of the show? Maybe if there are any particular episodes to watch out for without saying anything specific??

A: Oh man this is gonna be hard. There is so much. There is so much that nearly every episode brings something new that expands the world a bit. The pilot is very much an origin story that builds up the main characters. By the fourth show we’re really rolling along but just when you think you know what’s coming we change things up quite a bit. We have an episode where the Techs meet an outsider who has a completely different view of what glitches are then they do, which is definitely one to look for. We also pull styles and moods from various video games giving so many of them a different flavor. Its definitely not a formula show. Seeing one does not mean you have seen them all, just ask the poor folks doing our art, our music or our effects - every episode is like another little movie they’ve got to create fresh material for. Thankfully, they love it as much as we do and hopefully as much as you guys will. Sorry we can’t give more detail, we need to respect the Network (and the audience!) and wait for now.

Q: When news broke about Glitch Techs production halt, an outcry of support came from Animation fans, including when things like the intro were uploaded and shown. How does it make you feel to see such an outcry of support and hope for this series success, when it hasn't even aired an episode yet??

A: I think Dan and I could write a book on our last four years of trying to get Glitch Techs produced. I can’t stress enough how unique it is to have an original story and character driven show these days, when most studios are only focusing on remakes form their own vaults or from other established properties. We are so grateful to Nickelodeon. The truth is, I actually don’t have any problem with licensed projects, I love so many of these franchises and wouldn’t mind working on some myself. But what I don’t like is the imbalance of it all. That there seem to be ten of them for every one of us.

So when our season two was halted to make room for more pre existing IP, the support that people online showed for the show and for our crew was overwhelming to say the least. Dan and I were moved to know people decided to own Glitch Techs for themselves, which is exactly what we’ve always wanted. We have worked so hard to make the most of this opportunity we were given and are so grateful to partners like Supervising Producer Ian Graham and Art Director Scott Kikuta for gathering the amazing talent they found for this project.

Q: What mark do you hope that Glitch Techs leaves on Nickelodeon and the people who watch it?

A: We’d love to be a show that helps remind studios that original IPs are what audiences crave more than anything. Its great to revisit something that is already loved but what is better than the kind of love you develop for something you discover the FIRST TIME? We hope we leave that kind of mark with people. New discoveries and adventures that open the imaginations of kids and adults alike with brand new characters, worlds and stories they can hopefully invest in, love and relate to.

AND THAT CONCLUDES THE Q AND A! I hope you guys loved it, if you did please like, share, and comment these around, they're full of so much info and you really learn a lot about the creators. I can't thank Dan and Eric enough for giving me this time, they're amazing guys, and I really hope you guys give Glitch Techs a chance because it sounds SO PROMISING.

Thank you all so much for reading, and your support to make this kind of stuff happen, and here's to when Glitch Techs comes out, cause I'm HYPED for it!

Glitch Techs co-creator Dan Milano has share a story blueprint from the wall of the Glitch Techs writers room!:

RESPECT THE TECH! - High Five

When game consoles “glitch” and release video game creatures into your town, the Hinobi company detects the problem and dispatches the GLITCH TECHS! Suited up with an arsenal of fantastic gamer gear, their job is to wrangle the pests and “reformat” any witnesses!

Glitch Techs is an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world. The series comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif.

Glitch Techs will boast a multi-ethnic cast, including a Muslim-American female character who will wear a hijab. At a industry panel held late last year, the co-creators explained that when they were developing Glitch Techs, they “recognized the need to incorporate characters reflective of the viewing audience, whether they are background characters or main characters,” and revealed that they had worked with MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) to “figure out how to accurately display an authenticity, even down to little behaviors.” Dan Milano further elaborated, “Even though we’re an animated show and they are trying to catch creatures, we want small things. We want to know that a stray hair came out of that hijab, and she had to tuck it behind her ear because that’s a human moment, that’s a practical moment, from everyday life.”

It was recently announced that Emmy-award winning actor Bryton James (Winx Club, The Young and the Restless) will be voicing a character in Nickelodeon Glitch Techs.

Glitch Techs is set to premiere during 2019 on Nickelodeon USA.

Monét X Change, who recently became the first-ever black winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, has announced the exciting news that she's going to be part of a Nickelodeon show!

In an interview with EW.com, the 28-year-old North American drag queen, singer, and reality television personality from Brooklyn, New York revealed: "I have a Nickelodeon series I’m going to be a part of. I can’t really say what the project is, but it’s on Nickelodeon and comes out in 2020."

Update (5/23) - Monét X Change has revealed in an interview with Metro Weekly that the new Nickelodeon show she is currently working on is animated, and that she is currently in the studio recording lines for it!

Update (5/23) - Monét X Change has revealed in an interview with The Oprah Magazine that Nickelodeon is slated to announce her new animated series very soon!:

"Honestly, I don’t feel a whole lot has changed since winning. Being on Drag Race in general has afforded me amazing opportunities. I’m on a Nickelodeon cartoon series that will be announced really soon, and I’ve done Pepsi commercials with Cardi B. It’s getting me to think about one of my biggest dreams, which is having my own talk show—a goal of mine since I was a high schooler. To be a professional queen in New York City, it requires being a good host, and I love to talk. I love the drama of talk shows and the way of using your own comedy as a way to make people comfortable. [In May, she began hosting The X Change Rate as part of the Build series.]"

In addition to being crowned the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season four, along with fellow competitor Trinity The Tuck, who are now both being entered into the prestigious Drag Race Hall of Fame, Monét (whose real name Kevin Bertin) has also recently been seen in the Pepsi Super Bowl commercial with Cardi B, and is planning to release her debut EP Unapologetically, made in collaboration with artists who’ve clocked time with Whitney Houston, Justin Bieber, and Michael Jackson, on Friday, February 22, 2019!

I also have my EP and my visual album that people have been reacting to so positively. People are recognizing that I’m trying to take drag into the mainstream realm because in my heart of hearts I think drag is a magical thing, Monét told EW.com.

Monét wouldn't be the first star of RuPaul's Drag Race to cross over to Nickelodeon: RuPaul guest starred in an episode of Nickelodeon's hit CG-animated preschool series Bubble Guppies in 2015, in which he voiced RuPearl, a fashionable sea snail that serves as a ringside boxing announcer.

Check out Monét's super interview with Entertainment Weekly in full on EW.com!

Then, an enemy from Master Splinter's past is back and hungry for revenge. To get it, he'll summon the most dangerous foe that the Turtles have ever encountered—the Collectors, shape-shifting demons that can pass through dimensions at will and cannot be stopped once they have been summoned to harvest a soul. To save themselves, the Turtles team up with the Ghostbusters, the only people who have ever faced the Collectors and lived to tell the tale.
