To celebrate the brand-new movie, Nickelodeon has launched a Dora the Explorer-themed pop-up channel Dora TV on Pluto TV! Launched on Wednesday, July 17, Dora TV is airing episodes of Dora the Explorer 24/7. Nickelodeon’s animated adventure series (179 x 22-minutes) revolves around a young bilingual Latina who ventures through tropical settings and overcomes obstacles to reach her goals. Aimed at kids two to five, the preschool-skewing pop-up channel is the most recent addition to Pluto TV’s lineup since the streamer was acquired by Viacom earlier this year. The kidcaster announced its plans to launch branded channels on the network for its classic shows, including All That, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Fairly OddParents. Dora TV joins the Nickelodeon-branded Nick Pluto TV and Nick Jr. Pluto TV on the ad-supported free streaming service.

Nickelodeon is further celebrating the release of Dora and the Lost City of Gold with premieres of brand-new episodes of Dora the Explorer all this summer, as well as with a 24-hour marathon on Nick Jr. on August 9th!

Nickelodeon will be celebrating Dora the Explorer's 20th anniversary in 2020.

BURBANK, Calif.—June 4, 2019—Nickelodeon today announced it has greenlit Kamp Koral (working title), an original spinoff series of its iconic hit, SpongeBob SquarePants. The CG-animated series (13 episodes) introduces 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp. The series is slated to begin production in June at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, EVP Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon.

In the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.

Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers on the series.

The Encyclopedia SpongeBobia wiki recently got the chance to interview Brian Morante, in which the SpongeBob SquarePants storyboard artist talked about working on the show, and revealed that he will be working on Kamp Koral!

Spongebob456: Hey Brian, have you heard anything on the 3rd SpongeBob movie? I'm super excited!

Brian: I am not sure if I'm supposed to say this but I have been working on it for the past month.

Brian: I am just helping out a little bit. Helping (hopefully) [to] make things here and there funnier or fix little things.

BigRupé: How do you feel about Kamp Koral, Brian?

Brian: I am going to start boarding the pilot next week. I'm excited to see what I can do with it. Vince, Marc, myself and everyone else is going out of there way to make this just as funny and weird and crazy as the main show. The goal is to not make a "Looney Tunes Baby" type show.

Ninflan: Hey Brian, did you board the live action stuff in Birthday Blowout?

Brian: Yes. Fred boarded the birthday party stuff

Chickenkrispies: What compelled the crew to go with the change in stylistic direction of the past few seasons?

Brian: I think through the making of the second movie they learned they could do a lot if they did a quick and dirty version of a scene. Get it in editing as fast as possible. figure out what the scene needs and work on making it funnier. The results came out more dynamic or more visual than the process they had before. So in taking the job of the board artist and splitting into two different jobs (rough board artist or board director and more of a cleanup /plussing board artist) it incentified the rough board people to draw more poses, draw funny and add more gags because they wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up and putting all their work on model. That would be someone else's job who could also take it make it even funnier. Also over the last few season they have been trying to keep it a little bit looser rather than sticking with strictly on model drawings which can sometimes suck the life or the energy out of a pose or facial expression. Anyways I hope that makes sense. Its just about moving it away from being perfectly sterile on model show with a lot of scenes where characters just stand next to each other and talk back and forth. That's what Family Guy is for (not hating on FG but its a different thing from what we are trying to make).

Scrooge200: Hey Brian, can you confirm that mayonnaise is an instrument?

Brian: Yes.

Brian also revealed that his favorite SpongeBob meme is the one where SpongeBob buries himself and the word 'nope' appears!

It was first reported in February that Nickelodeon was eyeing an expansion to the beloved franchise, and was exploring, among other options, “an original story about SpongeBob and Patrick, or a Sandy Cheeks stand-alone story.”

“That’s our Marvel Universe,” said Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins said. “You have this amazing show that’s run for almost twenty years.”

Nickelodeon is thought to have over half-a-dozen SpongeBob SquarePants spin-offs currently in development.

Nickelodeon has given a 13-episode series order to Kamp Koral (working title), a spinoff of the network’s signature series SpongeBob SquarePants! While the mothership is a classic 2D cartoon, the off-shoot will be a CG-animated series, which serves as a prequel to SpongeBob. It introduces 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp. The news was first reported by Deadline.

Earlier this year, Nickelodeon, under new president Brian Robbins, announced that it is developing for the first time ever spinoff projects for SpongeBob SquarePants characters. Kamp Koral marks the first such project to get a green light. It is slated to begin production in June at Nickelodeon’s facilities in Burbank, California.

In the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral. SpongeBob SquarePants' Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller co-executive produce the prequel.

So far, the creative forces behind SpongeBob had tried a CG approach to the characters in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, the 2015 sequel to the successful live-action/2D film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. A third feature, The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, is slated for release next year.

We can only hope that Kamp Koral will answer critical questions in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe like where SpongeBob learned “The Campfire Song Song” or how to protect himself from Sea Bears.

The pickup for Kamp Koral comes on the eve of the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants's debut on July 17, 1999. It will be marked with "Best Year Ever", a tribute that includes an original one-hour special, SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout.

It’s SpongeBob’s birthday in “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” which features for the first time the celebrated voice talent behind SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward and Plankton playing live-action doppelgänger versions of the animated characters they voice. In the one-hour special, Patrick and SpongeBob journey to the surface world, where they come across a few familiar characters during lunchtime rush at The Trusty Slab restaurant. Meanwhile, the Bikini Bottom residents set up a surprise party for SpongeBob. The special, premiering Friday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon USA, also features special guest stars, including David Hasselhoff (Baywatch), Jack Griffo (The Thundermans), Daniella Perkins (Knight Squad), and Kel Mitchell (All That, Game Shakers).

Nickelodeon Russia (Россия) will premiere the brand-new animated series Atchoo! on Monday 5th August 2019! Locally titled Апчхи, Nick Россия will air two episodes of Atchoo! back-to-back daily at 8:25 МСК and 8:35 МСК. Atchoo! season one features 52 11-minute episodes.


Atchoo! invites boys and girls age six to nine to follow the adventures of Teodor Green (aka Teo), a nice 9 year old boy who has a very particular way to express his emotions: Beastly Sneezes! Since he was born, when feeling a strong emotion, he sneezes and turns into an animal! He can't control the sneezes and can't predict what kind of animal he'll turn into, but with the help of his friends he’ll always get out of it.

Atchoo is not just a comedy-based series, the stories transmit an important message: difficulties, fears and diversity are not necessarily all bad, but can engender endurance and originality.

Atchoo! is produced by Italian outfits Studio Campedelli, Cartobaleno, Rai Ragazzi and Indian animation firm Cosmos-Maya (Motu Patlu). Brands & Rights 360 (B&R360) serves as the shows distributor.

Nickelodeon USA is set to significantly reduce the amount of hours its NickRewind programming block, Nickelodeon's television destination for the most loved Nick content from the 1990s and beyond, airs on TeenNick each night. Currently airing every night for seven hours between 11:00 p.m - 6:00 a.m. (ET/PT), beginning Monday, July 15, 2019, Nick will reduce NickRewind's broadcast hours to just two hours per night, airing between 4:02 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. (ET/PT) during the early hours of each morning.


In lieu of classic Nickelodeon programming, TeenNick will air more teen-centric programming from MTV and Awesomeness - a media company that focuses on creating original content for Gen Z which Viacom acquired in 2018.

Shows from MTV include: the teen reality series Made (weekdays at 12pm, 3pm and 8pm), the 2011 live-action supernatural drama Teen Wolf (starting with season 4; weeknights at 9pm), reality series My Super Sweet 16 (weeknights from 12-1am) and Parental Control (weeknights from 1-2am). The series will air as part of a 'MTV on TeenNick' style block.

Shows from AwesomenessTV, which have mostly ran on streaming services in the U.S. up until this point, includes: Betch, Guidance, Zac & Mia, Love Daily. All four series run weeknights from 10pm-midnight and encore from 2-4am as part of an "AwesomenessTV on TeenNick" branded programming block.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports 2019

Premieres: Saturday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) as a simulcast on Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons.


Hosted by Super Bowl champion and two-time Emmy Award-winner Michael Strahan, Kids’ Choice Sports 2019 is the only show where kids celebrate their favorite athletes and the year’s most epic surprises and challenges across the world of sports. Airing Saturday, August 10, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on everywhere you find Nickelodeon, Kids’ Choice Sports 2019 was taped live on Thursday, July 11, from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

Three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade was honored with the Legend Award at this year’s show in recognition of his achievements and outstanding sportsmanship on and off the court. Upon receiving his mohawk award, Wade was doused from head to toe in glistening gold slime.

Co-captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team and two-time World Cup champion Megan Rapinoe received the Generation Change Award for 2019 at tonight’s ceremony. The award, presented by 13-year-old pro soccer player Olivia Moultrie, honors Megan’s passion to create positive changes, build social movements, and make sports and the world a more equal playing field when it comes gender, race and LGBTQ+ rights.

Grammy Award-winning global superstar Ciara hit the stage with a medley of her hit songs--current single “Set,” viral sensation “Level Up” and her classic hit “1, 2 Step.” Ciara was joined by dancers from The Lab Creative Arts Studio, home to world champion dancers and athletes, and surrounded by a laser light extravaganza.

The slime-filled celebration also featured two star-studded teams going head to head in the first-ever Kids' Choice Sports Championship--a mega-competition made up of five grand-scale, sports-themed challenges that spanned the entire show. Team Slime Slammers was captained by Lindsey Vonn with Alysa Liu, Kel Mitchell, Shaun White, Trae Young and Nyjah Huston. Team Orange Crunch was led by Rob Gronkowski with David Dobrik, Laurie Hernandez, Olivia Moultrie, Ben Simmons and P.K. Subban.

KCS2019.com serves as the official destination for Kids’ Choice Sports 2019 and will pair with the show to feature all-star live votes, polls, sports-themed short-form videos, trivia, backstage reactions, and more. As the show’s competitors face off during the telecast, users will be able to pick which team to support and join the fun in the interactive experience all night. Users will also be able to access all day of show content on the Screens Up app, which will feature AR-sticker collection throughout the show.

Kids’ Choice Sports 2019 will encore: Saturday, Aug. 10, at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and Sunday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon; Monday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on TeenNick; and Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 6:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nicktoons. The telecast will also be available via Nickelodeon on Demand beginning Sunday, Aug. 11.

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., August 2, 2019 (Newswire.com) -“We’re calling it the ‘summer of inclusion’ because it’s not only our graduates but also our second- and third-year students who are being sought out for internships,” said Exceptional Minds Executive Director Jeffrey Shapiro.

Exceptional Minds is a school and professional studio that prepares individuals with autism for careers in animation and visual effects, the only nonprofit organization of its kind serving a population that is underrepresented in the workforce.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 84% of adults with autism are unemployed.

Internships, according to Shapiro, provide an opportunity for organizations and individuals to break down some of the stereotypes of autism, which can be a barrier to meaningful employment for individuals, as well as for companies seeking to recruit good talent.

In addition to Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Ingenuity Studios, Mr. Wolf, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Picture Shop have opened their doors to Exceptional Minds artists and students this summer. At least one has kept that door open longer than expected. “We are happy to hold on to Nick and Raymond for a bit longer - we've extended their internship into the late summer,” said Picture Shop’s Executive Vice President of VFX Tom Kendall, referring to Exceptional Minds students Raymond Huang and Nicholas Dodge. Both students will continue on at Picture Shop through the summer working on one of the studio’s more high-profile television projects.


“Internships give companies and studios the opportunity to bring in someone they normally wouldn’t hire. They get to add different voices in a risk-averse way,” commented David Miles, a 2015 graduate of Exceptional Minds’ three-year program, who is spending the summer at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, participating in an education initiative. Miles has served internship roles at Psychic Bunny, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, and Unicorn Island, where he is now part of the animation team for YouTube star Lilly “Superwoman” Singh. He also works in the studio at Exceptional Minds, a nonprofit professional training academy and studio for artists on the autism spectrum.

“Any interaction with autistic folk can and will dispel stereotypes,” agreed second-year Exceptional Minds student Kate Jorgensen, who is helping out at Nickelodeon this summer doing script breakdowns, asset call-outs and other duties for a new animated series. “Internships are wonderful because it encourages more people to engage with the autism community from a business standpoint,” added Jorgensen, who resumes her training at Exceptional Minds in the fall and plans to go on to a career in animation after graduating the three-year program in 2020.

Exceptional Minds started the training academy in 2011 and in 2014, opened a professional studio to bring in contract work for graduates of its three-year program. Since then, Exceptional Minds artists with autism have completed 196 projects for movies and television shows, including recent blockbuster Avengers: Endgame and Oscar-nominated movies Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, First Man, Green Book and Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as for notable TV shows such as Game of Thrones and The Good Doctor.

The school now annually serves an average of 250 full-time, part-time, and privately tutored students (as well as graduate artists), providing technical and behavioral training to a population sorely underrepresented in both the labor market and society as a whole.

Paw Patrol es la serie de televisión y franquicia más grande a nivel mundial. El estreno de su película llega para el Día del Niño, como una forma de celebrar con sus seguidores ese día tan especial. Está llena de sorpresas.

Sinopsis: El alcalde Humdinger pone en marcha uno de sus planes más audaces: ser el primer Alcalde en pisar la luna. Con la ayuda de su sobrino Harold, construye un cohete en el que pretende llegar hasta el satélite de la tierra. Pero, como siempre, su plan va mal y el cohete termina saliendo sin él. En el camino, el cohete desvía la ruta de un meteoro, haciendo que éste se dirija hacia la tierra. Los cachorros de la Patrulla Canina unen sus fuerzas para evacuar las calles y proteger a los ciudadanos de Bahía de la Aventura. Después de que todos están en un lugar seguro, el meteoro cae a la playa. Los cachorros y Harold son los primeros en llegar y cuando divisan la roca espacial una gran explosión de energía dorada los alcanza.

Así descubren que tienen superpoderes: Chase puede correr súper rápido, Rocky crea herramientas de energía, Skye puede volar, Rubble gana super fuerza, Everest puede congelar las cosas, Marshall logra controlar el calor y Zuma el agua. ¡Juntos se convierten en los Super Cachorros! Pero ellos no fueron los únicos que recibieron poderes del meteoro. Harold se da cuenta de que puede construir cualquier tipo de máquina con el poder de la mente. Il 23 e 24 luglio 2019 Rainbow regalerà a bambini e ragazzi presenti alla 49ma edizione del Giffoni Film Festival tutta la grinta e la magia dei personaggi più noti e amati della TV nati dall’estro creativo di Iginio Straffi: i simpatici protagonisti di 44 Gatti, le famose fatine del Winx Club e l’energia del nuovissimo live action Club 57 saranno infatti protagonisti per due giorni di eventi speciali che faranno sognare il festival.

Questo il programma degli appuntamenti Rainbow: il 23 luglio si inizia con il “Rainbow Kids Day”, con gli eventi speciali di 44 Gatti dedicati ai giurati Elements +3 e Winx Club per i giurati Elements +6, mentre il 24 luglio avrà luogo il “Rainbow Teen Day” dedicato ai giurati Elements +10 con Club 57.

Il 23 luglio tornano al Festival i micetti che tanto hanno entusiasmato i bambini durante la scorsa edizione: Lampo, Milady, Pilou e Polpetta, i protagonisti dell’acclamato cartone animato 44 Gatti in onda tutti i giorni su Rai Yoyo. Le canzoni della nuova serie, portate al successo dallo Zecchino d’Oro, hanno già conquistato il cuore dei più piccoli, i quali potranno assistere alla proiezione di uno speciale davvero “gattastico” alle ore 19:00, che sarà seguito dall’incontro con i Buffycats! Questo evento è dedicato ai giurati Elements +3. In occasione della 49ma edizione del Giffoni Film Festival, la Cittadella si prepara ad ospitare il “RAINBOW DAY”, una giornata all’insegna dei colori di Rainbow che travolgerà il giovane pubblico del festival martedì 23 luglio. Il Giffoni Film Festival omaggia così la content company fiore all’occhiello del Made in Italy, attiva da oltre vent’anni nel panorama internazionale e guidata dal talento del suo visionario fondatore Iginio Straffi, che con la sua creatività ha conquistato il cuore di milioni di bambini, bambine e ragazzi in tutto il mondo.

L’Universo Rainbow farà sognare i Giffoners per l’intera giornata di martedì 23 luglio, con un ricco programma di eventi speciali che coinvolgerà grandi e piccini: agli Elements +3 sarà dedicato l’evento dei teneri protagonisti di 44 Gatti; le famose fatine dello Winx Club accompagneranno i giurati Elements +6, mentre gli Elements +10 saranno travolti dall’atmosfera unica e frizzante del nuovissimo live action Club 57.

I giurati Elements +3 avranno l’opportunità di assistere alla proiezione esclusiva di un episodio speciale di 44 GATTI alle ore 19:00 in Sala Sordi, e a seguire potranno incontrare i gatti più rock della TV, che già durante la scorsa edizione hanno entusiasmato i bambini con la loro travolgente musica: Lampo, Milady, Pilou e Polpetta, protagonisti dell’esilarante cartone animato in onda tutti i giorni su Rai Yoyo, faranno divertire i più piccoli sulle note delle loro gattastiche canzoni, successi senza tempo tratti dal repertorio dello Zecchino d’Oro e amati da intere generazioni.

I giurati Elements +6 saranno protagonisti in un appuntamento davvero magico: le fatine del celebre WINX CLUB voleranno infatti al Giffoni per una ricorrenza molto importante, il loro 15mo anniversario, che festeggeranno insieme ai Giffoners! Bloom, Stella, Flora, Aisha, Musa e Tecna debuttarono il 28 gennaio 2004 su Rai Due, e con la loro magia e la loro amicizia, positività, generosità e impegno, accompagnano da allora milioni di bambine in tutto il mondo nella loro crescita… quindi quale occasione migliore questa del Festival per celebrare insieme questo anniversario? I giurati degli Elements +6 avranno l’opportunità di assistere alla proiezione di due episodi inediti dell’ottava stagione della saga delle fatine più glitterate della TV: gli appuntamenti saranno due, uno alle ore 10:00 e uno alle ore 14:30 (entrambi alla Sala Lumiere) e a seguire i Giffoners potranno incontrare le loro eroine.

Gli Elements +10 potranno invece tuffarsi nella magnifica atmosfera di CLUB 57, il nuovissimo live action prodotto da Rainbow e Nickelodeon in onda su Rai Gulp. I giurati potranno assistere all’anteprima di un episodio inedito della serie, che verrà proiettato per loro in due appuntamenti, alle ore 10:00 e alle ore 14:30 (entrambi alla Sala Sordi) e avranno l’opportunità unica di incontrare in una talk speciale Riccardo Frascari, che interpreta JJ, il protagonista principale della serie. Club 57 racconta le avventure romantiche dei protagonisti all’interno dello show televisivo di musica e ballo più in voga nel 1957, anno in cui vengono catapultati dopo un misterioso viaggio indietro nel tempo.

E il “RAINBOW DAY” non finisce qui! Per un giorno la Cittadella si trasformerà in un universo di fantasia, e i Giffoners potranno immergersi nel mondo Rainbow con tante coinvolgenti attività a tema! Un’esclusiva area make-up in collaborazione con Making Beauty Academy di Milano accoglierà i piccoli Giffoners per trasformarli nei loro personaggi preferiti del mondo Rainbow e prepararli al frizzante Carpet della giornata, pieno di sorprese!

Tutti i protagonisti dei programmi TV Rainbow sfileranno sul Blu Carpet di #Giffoni2019: i quattro Buffycats di 44 GATTI, le sei fatine di WINX CLUB e JJ di CLUB 57, che si esibirà in uno strabiliante show di ballo insieme alla Rainbow Crew. Una parata davvero indimenticabile per tutti i Giffoners, da vivere insieme all’insegna del divertimento targato Rainbow.

Roma, 26 lug. (askanews) – Da fine settembre arrivano su Rai Gulp i nuovi episodi di “Club 57” serie tv di Rainbow, coprodotto con Nickelodeon in collaborazione con Rai Ragazzi, partita ad aprile, ambientata tra il presente e gli anni ’50 e girata tra Miami e la Puglia.

Una storia d’amore in cui si mixano musica, amicizia, scienza, ballo, seguendo le avventure di Eva e di suo fratello Ruben che si ritrovano a viaggiare nel tempo e finiscono sul palco di un noto show musicale chiamato Club 57. E’ dietro le quinte che Eva incontra JJ e se ne innamora.

A interpretare JJ è Riccardo Frascari: “Posso sicuramente dire che sarà una stagione piena di tante sorprese, novità, verranno risolte molte questioni che erano state lasciate in sospeso nella prima parte della serie, riusciremo a capire cosa succede tra Eva e JJ…”.

Riccardo, nato a Bologna nel ’97, è l’unico italiano di un cast internazionale prevalentemente latinoamericano. Il personaggio che interpreta ha molto di lui: “Il giubotto di pelle ce l’ho spesso, la chitarra pure e condivido con JJ anche la lealtà, una forte credenza nei valori più semplici, l’amore verso la famiglia, gli amici, nel rispetto degli altri e nel non giudicare. Poi è un esempio di grande umiltà per cui sono felice di poterlo portare sullo schermo”.

E soprattutto è un appassionanto degli anni ’50 che rivive da JJ. “Io ho una grandissima passione per gli anni ’50. Da dodicenne nelle mie prime lezioni di chitarra conobbi Elvis e altri cantanti, ho sentito subito un feeling con questi anni e ho iniziato ad approfondirli da solo e ho provato a portare un po’ di Elvis nel mio personaggio che comunque in parte gli è ispirato, la sceneggiatura della serie è una sua grande fan e ha voluto omaggiarlo in qualche modo. Poi ovviamente lui è stato il ‘king’, è unico”.

“Club 57” per lui ha qualcosa in più di tante altre serie teen: “Credo, a mio modesto parere che avessero un plot basic, qui ci ritroviamo con viaggi nel tempo, guardiani del tempo, salti temporali, ci sono momenti da musical e i cambi d’atmosfera, ad esempio le scene girate in Italia sono una cornice meravigliosa che fa sognare, c’è la storia d’amore sulle coste della Puglia, immagino che i ragazzi guardandola possano sognare a occhi aperti”.

Ci sarà un’altra stagione? “Spero si faccia, tutti abbiamo voglia di ricominciare e riportare sullo schermo questi personaggi, sento di non aver ancora finito con JJ e di avere ancora tante cose da poter regalare al pubblico”.

Riccardo Frascari è il JJ Fontana della serie tv internazionale Club 57 coprodotta da Rainbow e Nickelodeon. La serie è ambientata tra Miami e la Puglia e sta appassionando il pubblico con i suoi intrecci fantascientifici e colpi di scena. L'INTERVISTA

Siamo negli anni Cinquanta grazie alla macchina del tempo e quindi ci troviamo a vivere un mondo tra fantasia e realtà. Il fulcro della storia è il Club 57 (nuovi episodi da settembre) e il protagonista è Riccardo Frascari, un giovane attore italiano che interpreta JJ Fontana, follemente innamorato di Eva, interpretata da Evaluna Montaner. Nella quotidianità sono le ragazze italiane tra i 16 e i 23 anni a essere infatuate di lui, che ho incontrato a Giffoni.

Riccardo siamo passati dal Club 57 a Giffoni 2019.

Sono rimasto senza parole. Mi ha stupito l'intelligenza dei messaggi. Affrontare 800 ragazzi non è facile, le loro domande sono curiose, precise, vanno spesso oltre i consigli. E poi che accoglienza!

Non sapevi nulla della bellezza di Giffoni?
E' la prima volta, non sapevo cosa aspettarmi.

Un commento?
Bellezza e semplicità. Quei ragazzi mi hanno stimolato a lavorare ancora più duro, a migliorarmi.

Cosa insegnano le Masterclass giffoniane?
Raccontano tutto il mondo del cinema. Fanno comprendere che ci sono tante figure che sembrano dietro le quinte ma risultano fondamentali.

Cosa è Club 57?
la storia di due fratelli che si ritrovano nel 1957. Ed Eva è a un bivio: tornare indietro oppure stare con JJ, il primo amore.

La metafora?
Il tempo non ha confini e va sottolineato ora che c'è chi parla di muri.

Che sai degli anni Cinquanta?
In termini musicali credo sia il decennio più prolifico. Cito solo il senso di ribellione e James Dean.

Parlami del tuo personaggio JJ Fontana.
Il rischio era scivolare nella macchietta e dunque ho dovuto studiare.

I riferimenti?
In primis l'omaggio a Elvis Presley: a lui mi ispiro per l'immagine e la presenza scenica. Poi ho studiato, di quell'epoca, la moda, come ci si approcciavi alle ragazze e anche l'andatura, diversa da quella odierna.

Che fai questa estate?
Ora sono in giro in promozione poi volo in Messico dove dovremmo essere premiati. Inoltre confido nella seconda stagione.

Studi?
Ho lavorato con coach privati e poi divoro libri di recitazione: una decina di pagine al giorno cui segue la riflessione personale.

Disponessi della macchina del tempo dove andresti?
Davvero negli anni Cinquanta.

E che faresti?
Affitterei una cadillac sulla costa e girerei ascoltando musica rockabilly.

Sulla decapottabile ti porti Eva?
Ovvio. Battute a parte siamo diventati grandi amici. Ed è bellissimo quando trascorri molto tempo sul set.

CLUB 57, il nuovo live action di Rainbow coprodotto con Nickelodeon in collaborazione con Rai Ragazzi, sta appassionando il pubblico con i suoi intrecci romantici e fantascientifici e i suoi colpi di scena. Un misterioso dispositivo tv attira la curiosità di Eva e permette ai ragazzi di viaggiare nel tempo: è infatti su quel televisore nascosto nel laboratorio del nonno, che Eva vede proiettate le immagini di uno show musicale chiamato Club 57 ed è proprio su quel palcoscenico e in diretta TV che i due ragazzi si ritrovano inaspettatamente a ballare. Dietro le quinte dell’esclusivo Club 57, lo show musicale più in voga dell’epoca, Eva si innamora di JJ e da quel momento fa di tutto per rimanere con lui, innescando un effetto farfalla che minaccia di stravolgere le vite dei protagonisti per sempre…

Club 57 vanta un cast internazionale: i protagonisti principali sono la venezuelana Evaluna Montaner, che interpreta Eva, e l’italiano Riccardo Frascari, che interpreta JJ Fontana. JJ ha una relazione con Vero, ma quando vede Eva per la prima volta capisce che il suo cuore batte per lei. JJ è affettuoso, divertente e sicuro di sé, anche se nasconde le sue reali aspirazioni. Grazie all’aiuto di Eva, imparerà a seguire i propri sogni e diventerà un cantante e ballerino di Club 57. JJ fa parte della squadra di basket della scuola ed è il leader dei Falcones. Le tante canzoni presenti nella serie sono composte dal famoso cantautore Ricardo Montaner, e alcune sono cantate in italiano. Arriva l'ottava serie in chiaro delle Winx dal 29 luglio sul canale della direzione Rai Ragazzi

Tornano a volare le Winx con i loro battiti di ali e, anche grazie alle loro brillanti avventure, continuano a volare gli ascolti di Rai YoYo, il canale della direzione Rai Ragazzi al servizio dei più piccini. Nella stagione appena conclusa (2018-19) Rai YoYo si è confermata leader tra le Reti digitali nella fascia oraria che va dalle 7.00 alle 22.00, raggiungendo il secondo posto tra i canali specializzati di ogni piattaforma e affermandosi al nono posto tra i canali nazionali, con uno share dell’1,4% e 181 mila telespettatori medi. Tra i quattro e i quattordici anni Rai YoYo è la seconda rete nazionale più vista, con il 7,3% di share, mentre per il target di riferimento, bambini tra quattro e sette anni, raggiunge la prima posizione con il 13,8% di share (+0,8% rispetto alla precedente stagione).

La coproduzione, in onda dal 12 novembre scorso nella fascia tra le 19.00 e le 20.00, ha registrato uno dei risultati migliori per Rai YoYo, con una media di 328.000 telespettatori, con l’1,8% di share, che raggiunge l’ottimo traguardo del 16,3% tra i bambini di età dai 4 ai 7 anni. La prima puntata ha ottenuto il risultato record di 527.000 telespettatori, con il 2,7% di share e ben il 21% di share sul target tra i 4 ed i 7 anni, risultando il miglior ascolto della rete nella stagione 2018-2019.

Presentati in anteprima al Giffoni Film Festival 2019, i nuovi episodi di Club 57 sono stati girati tra Miami e la Puglia, potendo vantare un cast internazionale, tra cui il cantautore Ricardo Montaner, che firma molti brani presenti nella serie. A Giffoni abbiamo incontrato per questa intervista Riccardo Frascari, che si è detto entusiasta del grande ritorno del musical, a cominciare dal successo del film La La Land, da cui ha tratto ispirazione: "Quando ho dovuto preparare la serie ho avuto una settimana intensiva, una vera e propria full immersion di visione di musical, tra cui La La Land, Grease e molti altri. È stato bellissimo: penso che il musical sia un genere cinematografico a volte sottovalutato, perché non viene seguito come dovrebbe. Questa serie penso che sia una grandissima opportunità per i ragazzi di avere qualcosa di giovanile e fresco con musica, ballo, passione, risate, amore, amicizia".

In Club 57 Riccardo Frascari interpreta un ragazzo degli anni '50: secondo lui cosa penserebbe di noi un giovane uomo vissuto in quell'epoca? "Secondo me non sarebbe soddisfatto e felice" ci ha detto l'attore, proseguendo "Sarebbe sicuramente sorpreso di vedere tutte quelle che sono state le innovazioni tecnologiche avvenute negli ultimi 50-60 anni, cellulari, televisione, che oggi ha una risoluzione incredibile e dimensioni piccolissime, ma noterebbe che si sono perse le relazioni personali: il contatto fisico tra le persone e anche quello visivo. Negli anni '50 quando dovevi dire qualcosa a un'altra persona dovevi cercarla e dirle negli occhi quello che pensavi, che fosse un amico, una fidanzata o i tuoi genitori. Penso che i ragazzi dell'epoca si sentirebbero un po' fuori luogo in un mondo freddo e che dà meno spazio ai sentimenti".

Smith, Robert Taylor Jr., Allan K. Washington, Brynn Williams, Matt Wood and Tom Kenny as the French Narrator.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Musical has a running time of 2 hours 30 minutes, and features two acts (ACT I: 1 hour 15 minutes; ACT II: 1 hour) and a 15 minute intermission.

It's currently unknown whether any of the original Broadway cast will be reprising their characters for the U.S. tour of the show. However, judging from the first promotional photo release, it'll feature a new ensemble cast. The cast will be announced at a later date.


The critically acclaimed SpongeBob SquarePants musical was named Best Musical by the Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle and earned 12 Tony Award nominations - the most nominated musical of the 2017-2018 theatre season - including nods for Best Musical, director Tina Landau, book writer Kyle Jarrow, title player Ethan Slater (in his Broadway debut), and the all-star roster of songwriters (including Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, and John Legend) who contributed to the score. The production earned 12 Tony Award nominations including best musical, equaling Mean Girls for the most of any show this season, and while The Band's Visit swept the honors, SpongeBob did score a deserved win for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for David Zinn's scenic design. The show’s director, Tina Landau, earned a Tony Award nomination for her inventive and unconventional approach to the material that humanized the characters than creating literal representations of the familiar Nickelodeon cartoon.

Following a Chicago tryout during summer 2016, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical opened at Broadway's Palace Theatre during Fall 2017, where it ran for 327 regular performances and 29 previews, defying critical expectations by earning some of the warmest reviews of the season. The show closed in September 2018 to make way for refurbishments at the Palace Theatre.

While many expected a theme park-style brand extension, the show surprised theatergoers with its wild Dadaist comic sensibility, ingenious design and winning performances, notably from gifted 26-year-old newcomer Ethan Slater, making a terrific Broadway debut in the title role.

SpongeBob SquarePants first debuted on Nickelodeon USA on May 1, 1999 and is still going strong.

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon. The series has been the most-watched animated program with kids 2-11 for more than 15 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks. SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in Viacom International Media Networks history, seen in more than 208 countries and territories and translated in 55+ languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Among those friends are SpongeBob's best friend, a pink starfish named Patrick Star, his neighbor and co-worker octopus Squidward Tentacles, and Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas.

SpongeBob SquarePants is created by Stephen Hillenburg, who previously worked as a writer, director and creative director on Nickelodeon's animated series Rocko's Modern Life. Hillenburg graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a master's degree in experimental animation and his undergraduate degree, from Humboldt State University, was in natural science with an emphasis in marine biology. Hillenburg executive produced the series until his untimely passing in November 2018. His first feature film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which debuted Nov. 19, 2004 and his second theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, hit theaters Feb. 6, 2015, landing at #1 opening weekend.

SpongeBob SquarePantshas been renewed through to at least the show's twelfth season, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019, has its own critically acclaimed Broadway show, set to tour the U.S. from Fall 2019, and has a third upcoming movie, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, set to be released in Summer 2020. Nickelodeon also recently revealed plans to spin off the characters from SpongeBob SquarePants into their own stand-alone series, specials and feature-length movies. The series is produced at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

“It’s a pretty big deal for us and for Wichita to be able to bring ‘Spongebob’ on the first national tour. It’s exciting,” Amy Hamm, executive director of The American Theatre Guild, told The Wichita Eagle. “We’re feeling confident this is a show that audiences are going to love.”

The characters don’t wear the exact costumes of their cartoon counterparts, she said, but enough for anyone who has seen the series to know who they are.

Rather than one composer, the music for “Spongebob” was written by various pop-rock performers, including David Bowie, Plain White T’s, Panic! at the Disco, Cyndi Lauper, Flaming Lips, John Legend, Aerosmith, They Might Be Giants and Bareilles.

“It’s kind of a neat twist in addition to being a big, bright, fun show with a ton of heart,” Hamm said. “I think it will be a surprise because it has some amazing messages about friendship and teamwork. It’s an important kind of show to have now, a good show with a good message.”

'Dora and the Lost City of Gold' Premiere: Eva Longoria, Michael Peña, Isabela Moner Tout Pride for All-Latino Cast


"There was no forcing or checking the box of diversity," Longoria told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere in Los Angeles, California which also featured the film's stars Benicio Del Toro, Danny Trejo and Eugenio Derbez.

At the Los Angeles premiere of Dora and the Lost City of Gold, the Nickelodeon favorite made her live-action film debut and brought her Latino community along for the ride.

The film's stars — including Isabela Moner, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Benicio Del Toro, Danny Trejo, and Eugenio Derbez — filed down the red carpet at Regal Cinemas L.A. on Sunday. The stars were just a handful of the all-Latino cast who populated the movie's live-action take on Dora's world.

Longoria, who plays Dora's mother, Elena, told The Hollywood Reporter that being part of an all-Latino cast made sense for the movie and for the source material.

"If you think about Dora being Latina, you automatically get to populate her world with Latinos," Longoria told THR. "There was no forcing or checking the box of diversity if you represent Dora and her natural culture."

Ensuring authentic representation of Dora's community was an important aspect of extending her impact to the big screen, director James Bobin said. He noted that for a number of girls and Latino children, it was the first time they saw themselves truly represented onscreen, so bringing that impact to the theaters was significant to him.

"Being part of the movie, of quite a good size, and having the lead character be a 16-year-old Latina, it's fantastic and I'm really proud to have done that," he said.

The film's producer, Kristin Burr, also noted that truthfulness to the story was a cornerstone for the project. This push for authenticity was one of the factors that persuaded a number of stars, including Derbez, to sign on in the first place.

Derbez, who takes on the role of explorer Alejandro Gutierrez, revealed that he signed onto the project after learning it would feature an all-Latino cast. Additionally, the project's focus on a character whom he deems a "Latina superhero" and positive portrayals for the community also brought him on board.

"I always wanted to change the image of Latinos in Hollywood because they're always portraying us as criminals and drug lords," he told THR.

Similarly, Peña, who stars as the heroine's father, said that Dora and the Lost City of Gold would be his first time starring in a big-budget, Latin-led project. He also noted that projects like the August film is a step toward normalizing authentic stories and casting in Hollywood.

Though Dora and the Lost City of Gold adds to the year's list of live-action films inspired by previous material, what sets it apart from other projects is its focus on a strong, young Latina, Burr said.

Moner, who plays the renown explorer Dora, said that taking on the beloved animated character's courageous aspects didn't feel forced and allowed her to highlighted a different kind of female bravery.

"Whenever people think that a woman needs to be strong, they think that she has no emotions, is super serious, but Dora loves pink, she wears orange shorts, she loves dancing to Gloria Estefan, she's super girly," she said. "It's important to break up the stereotype that women have to act like men in order to be strong."

Dora and the Lost City of Gold hits theaters across the U.S. on Friday, August 9, 2019, and cinemas across the U.K. on Friday 16th August 2019.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold star Eva Longoria says her maternal instincts went "bonkers" on the movie's set.

The 44-year-old actress discussed motherhood while attending the film's Los Angeles premiere Sunday at the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live movie theater.
Longoria welcomed her first child, son Santiago, with husband Jose "Pepe" Baston in June 2018. She plays Dora's mom, Elena, in the new film.

"My instincts in this movie were completely bonkers because I was a new mom," Longoria told Entertainment Tonight.

"Dora's, like, running in the jungle, holding a snake, running into crumbling falling rocks, [and] I'm like, "I would never let my child do that!'" she said. "The director was like, 'Right, but it's Dora!' I'm like, 'Okay, okay.'"

Longoria wore a bright yellow Vitor Zerbinato dress and strappy white sandals to the premiere.. She shared a photo of her look on Instagram, saying she was "feeling bright."

"I'm feeling bright for @doramovie premiere!" the star captioned the post.

Dora and the City of Gold is a new live-action movie based on the Nickelodeon animated series Dora the Explorer. The film co-stars Isabela Moner as Dora, Michael Pena and Danny Trejo, and opens in theaters Aug. 9.

Longoria had shared similar sentiments about motherhood and her experience with Dora and the Lost City of Gold in an interview with Extra last week.

"It changed all my instincts. Like, my moral compass was totally bonkers because I just had new eyes on the world," the star said.

"I remember there was a scene when Michael and I are standing there and Dora runs back into the crumbling temple," she recalled. "Michael and I were like, 'No, no, no. We would never let our child run into a crumbling temple. That's very dangerous.' It was just against every instinct in my body to not keep my child safe."

Paramount Pictures hosted the premiere of “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” over the weekend. Select members of the cast and crew met with fans on the red carpet to promote the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9th. Dora herself, Isabela Moner, joined stars Eva Longoria, Michael Peña, Jeff Wahlberg, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, and Danny Trejo at the event, where they discussed the live-action adaptation and bringing the iconic character to life on the big screen.

James Bobin directed the film for the studio, and the story picks up with Dora when she begins her high school years. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a ragtag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

Julia Pistor, Eugenio Derbez, and John G. Scotti served as executive producers on the film, with Kristin Burr serving as producer.

As we mentioned earlier, the movie is scheduled to open on August 9th, a busy weekend at the box office. Not only will “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” release one week after “Hobbs & Shaw,” the film opens against “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” “Brian Banks,” “The Kitchen,” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” The following week won’t be any easier for Dora since Sony Pictures is releasing “Angry Birds 2” in theaters nationwide.

Fans of Isabela Moner might remember her from her work on “Instant Family” and “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” when she played Lizzy and Isabel Reyes respectively. “It was amazing,” Isabela Moner said of playing beloved animated character Dora the Explorer at the world premiere of the live-action movie adaptation, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.” “I’m half Peruvian so the opportunity to be able to represent at this level is unheard of. Peru is never mainstream unless it’s for the hippies that go to Machu Picchu, so to be able to represent like this is just insane to me.”

Moner, who learned the indigenous Peruvian language, Quechua, while prepping to portray the hyper-intelligent Dora, is excited to see how the film will be received by Latin American audiences, especially the Peruvian community. “I want to push for a premiere in Peru and if they are not going to have one themselves, I’ll probably just go and do my own little event,” Moner said on the jungle-themed green carpet at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday. “I’m going there to work with UNICEF soon and that’s around the time that the movie comes out so hopefully it works out.”

Featuring a teenage Latina lead and an almost all-Latinx cast, “Dora” is already being hailed for promoting representation among blockbuster releases. Michael Peña, who stars as Dora’s father in the film, told Variety, “It’s a reason to do this kind of movie. Number one, it’s going to be a fun movie and people are going to like it, but number two, 24 years ago when I started acting, this would have never happened. There was no big-budget movie that I know of that any Latin person was even starring in. It’s cool that this is just kind of normal now in a way but for me, it’s especially satisfying.”

Director James Bobin is hoping that story changes made during the adaptation process, which includes aging up Dora from a 6-year-old to a teenager, will appeal to a broader audience while still resonating with the Nickelodeon cartoon’s fanbase. “When I read the script, I realized that they (writers Nicolas Stoller and Matthew Robinson) were doing a very clever thing by making her the same person now at sixteen as she was at six. It’s a charming way of getting into the movie and there were so many great opportunities for comedy. She’s grown up with the audience but she hasn’t changed, even if they have, and that’s kind of great.”

Eva Longoria said she was surprised to discover Dora the Explorer’s international popularity when she first signed on to play Dora’s mother in the movie. “I thought she was an icon for the Hispanic community but she’s global,” she told Variety. “She taught English all over the world and people were learning Spanish through her. The representation matters. The fact that it’s authentically an all-Latino cast matters and I’m so proud to be part of this project in that way.”

Longoria recalled that seeing iconic singer Selena perform was the first time she saw someone who looked like her represented in entertainment. “I don’t remember a lot of that representation growing up,” she said. “It was Selena. Not the movie, not Jennifer Lopez, the performer. Because I’m from Corpus [Christi, Texas] so I would watch her and go to her concerts and I was like, ‘Wow!’”

The star, who is set to make her feature-film directorial debut with the female comedy “24/7” co-starring Kerry Washington, also discussed the current landscape for female directors in Hollywood. “I hope it’s changing. Cannes was the first time that they had 50/50 submissions for directors and that made me happy. But if you look at feature films on this scale, blockbusters, we are not moving fast enough.”

For Longoria, the key is not just awareness but access. “We have to educate gatekeepers who are making these decisions that women are just as talented and just as profitable as male directors,” she explained. “But not only educate the gatekeepers, change the gatekeepers. We have to replace them. Get those women in executive positions. And once a woman is there, make sure she’s held accountable in pulling others up. Because there are some women in executive positions that aren’t doing a whole lot and we need to make sure that they do.”

‘Dora’ fan Isabela Moner didn’t leap at first to play the explorer as a teen

Actress said she didn’t want the character she loved to be too grown-up.

When Isabela Moner first heard that the beloved animated Nickelodeon show “Dora the Explorer” was getting an aged-up, live-action adaptation, she was admittedly concerned about the idea.

“It’s natural to wonder if what you love is going to be corrupted just to make money off us fans,” said the 18-year-old star of “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” (opening August 9). “I was skeptical about what Hollywood would do to something that was special to me.”

But that’s not the case here, stresses Moner, because the movie has everything kids and parents remember about the series, which debuted in 2000. That includes Dora’s signature look: bangs, a hot pink shirt and bright orange shorts.

Moner, who starred in “Instant Family,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” “100 Things to Do Before High School” and “Transformers: The Last Knight,” isn’t just your average teen nostalgic about the bilingual exploradora’s adventures — she was involved in the show’s animated 2014 spinoff “Dora and Friends,” which turned Dora from a 7-year-old to a tween. Moner was the voice of one of the friends, Kate, so playing the high school version of Dora came naturally to her.

“When I read the script and realized it was really clever and fun and kid-friendly, I thought ‘this will work,’ ”  the Cleveland, Ohio, native said. “It’s very touching to see all the characters and animals, Boots, the backpack and the songs.”

In the movie, Dora lives with her archaeologist parents (Eva Longoria and Michael Peña) in the South American jungle, with only pet monkey Boots to keep her company. When her parents go to Peru to search for a legendary Incan city of gold, they send the previously home-schooled Dora to live with her cousin Diego (Jeff Wahlberg) and his family in Los Angeles, California.

Trusting and enthusiastic, Dora is the ultimate fish out of water when she attends public high school for the first time.

“She’s not sarcastic at all, she doesn’t have a phone, she doesn’t have social media. She’s completely out of the loop, which I think is funny and has a good dynamic,” Moner explains. Eventually Dora, Diego and two classmates end up in Peru, where Dora’s explorer skills guide them on a dangerous rescue mission.


Moner may be considerably more social media savvy than Dora, but she actually has a lot in common with her legendary character. Peruvian on her mother’s side, Moner is bilingual in English and Spanish (she even learned some lines in the indigenous language Quechua for the role). She also loves to sing and dance (she got her start in musical theater), and she adores animals.

During the four-month film shoot in Australia, which stands in for Peru, Moner learned a lot about the unique animal and plant life Down Under — a very Dora-ish thing to do.

“I did a lot of exploring, no pun intended. The plants, the animals, the insects . . . it’s like, where did these come from, how did they end up here? It’s crazy,” she said. “I visited the zoo and an animal hospital and even got to see a surgery on a koala.”

Moner believes, whether audiences watched the original show or not, Dora could be just the inclusive and intelligent role model today’s kids and teens need.

“Right now it’s really cool to not care, so Dora’s unwavering optimism, her unshakable nature, the strength of her character, her contagious sense of joy. That’s all important for kids and teens to see.”

The 44-year-old actress plays Dora’s mom, Elena, in the Nickelodeon television series’ first live-action adventure and couldn’t contain her maternal instincts even while filming. “You know Dora’s with snakes, and Dora’s running around, and she’s going into a crumbling temple,” said Eva. “And as a new mom, and he (co-star Michael Pena) is a parent, we were like okay we would never let our daughter do that, so can we think of something else?”

But director James Bobin didn’t hesitate to remind the on-screen couple what the narrative is really about. “You guys the movie’s called Dora,” explained James. “It’s not called Dora’s parents. Dora has to save the day.”

Eva Longoria Says She Had No 'Choice' But to Film 'Dora' Movie Immediately After Giving Birth (Exclusive)

The Tejano actress tells TooFab how meaningful it was to take part in "Dora and the Lost City of Gold," a film that not only celebrates the Hispanic language, but also revels in its culture.

Eva Longoria took on the role of playing Dora the Explorer's mom in Nickelodeon's live-action adaption of the animated series just two months after giving birth to Santiago Bastón because she "didn't really have a choice."

TooFab had the opportunity to sit down with the Tejano actress and her on-screen husband, Michael Peña, to chat about just how meaningful it was for them to take part in "Dora and the Lost City of Gold," a film that not only celebrates the Hispanic language, but also revels in its culture.

"I loved Dora," Eva told us. "She was a global icon, I mean, an icon in our community; I didn't realize she was a global icon in the world. My friends from London called me and Germany, and they were like, 'Oh, my God! You're gonna be Dora's mom!' So I was really, really excited. And then I read the script, and I thought, 'Oh, my gosh! They really nailed this adaption of the cartoon.'"

Michael, whose parents emigrated from Mexico, agreed wholeheartedly.

"When you hear about a movie, like an adaptation of a TV show, I was interested for sure, but you don't know what the execution's gonna be like, so obviously the fact that the director is a great director, and he's tackled this kind of material before, is awesome," he told us. "But then, like [Eva] said, once I read the script, I thought, 'Oh, this is gonna be super fun and it's gonna be positive and it's a Latin-led cast."

"A lot of pros to do it," Eva added, but for her, there were seemingly way more cons to taking on the project. After all, she was a new and first-time mom when she agreed to fly to Australia, where the film was shot, in order to portray Elena.

"I didn't really have a choice," she said. "I could've said no, but I couldn't. I literally could not have said no to this movie. The opportunity that this movie provided, not only for me, but for my community and for people who look like me, I was like, I have to do this movie."

"And I remember freaking out, going, 'How am I gonna do this movie?!'" she continued, noting she eventually just had to pull the trigger and say, "'We're gonna do this. We're taking the family, we're taking everybody to Australia, and we're gonna do this. And you guys are gonna be there, and you're gonna support me, and you're gonna be happy, and you're gonna like it!'"

"And they did," she said with a laugh.

While Santiago, who she shares with husband José Bastón, is too young to have grown up watching Dora, Michael's son, Roman Peña, is not.

"My kid did grow up [watching Dora], and he loved the movie!" Michael told us. "He was laughing. He's at camp, so we saw it in a preview, but he was laughing. I made sure to sit right by him. I mean, that's the reason to do these movies, for your kids and for audiences like that and for his friends as well."

Eva explained that Spanish was not her first language, despite the fact that her parents are both Mexican. She said when she was growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas, the idea was to speak "English only. English, English, English."

"There's definitely, in our generation, this idea to assimilate," she said, looking at Michael. "And now, I think there's more celebration of returning to our language. Bilingual is better than monolingual, you know? When is two not better than one?"

"I learned Spanish late in life, and we're definitely raising Santi in a Spanish household," she added, "because he'll get English from school and society, but Spanish will be his home language."

Even though Spanish was Michael's first language, he had an experience similar to Eva's.

"I had parents that very much wanted to learn English, so my mom was at night school," he explained. "She was working in a factory, and then she was going to night school to finish high school here. And same thing with my dad. So at home, after a while, I think it was at 4 years old, we just started speaking English in the house. It was the cutest thing ever to see my mom making progress with years to come. And then she was fluent."

"Dora and the Lost City of Gold" hits theaters August 9.

'Dora' Star Jeff Wahlberg Reveals Two Things Uncle Mark Wahlberg Told Him 'Never' to Do (Exclusive)

The 23-year-old actor tells TooFab about the best advice his Oscar-nominated uncle has ever given him.

Mark Wahlberg's nephew, Jeff Wahlberg, is taking on his first big acting role playing Diego in "Dora and the Lost City of Gold."

During an interview about Nickelodeon's live-action adaption of the wildly successful animated series, TooFab got the opportunity to ask the 23-year-old Miami native about the best advice his Oscar-nominated uncle has ever given him.

"In terms of acting, he hasn't really given me any," Jeff told us. "But in terms of business, just to never get comfortable and never lose my hustle."

"It's crazy," he added, looking at co-star Isabela Moner, who plays Dora. "Isabela actually worked with him twice, so when I met her, in a lot of ways, it felt like we knew each other already. It felt like she was my cousin."

But that wasn't the only "full-circle" moment Jeff experienced while working on the film; he watched "Dora the Explorer" as a kid and said getting to play the beloved character's equally adventurous cousin was a dream come true.

"It came full circle. It's crazy," he said. "For me, Dora was such a part of my childhood. And even shooting the movie, I feel like I really, in a lot of ways, got in touch with my inner child."

Jeff said his longtime best friend even flew with him to Australia, where the movie was shot, to spend the duration of filming with him there.

"[He] stayed with me and came to set for weeks, and it was like, 'Yo, this is crazy! It's full circle. It's weird,'" Jeff gushed.

Isabela, on the other hand, brought her mom, who kind of became like Jeff's mom, which isn't too far off from the pair's familial relationship in the movie: Dora goes off to live with her cousin and his family in San Diego after her parents (Eva Longoria and Michael Peña) come to the realization that their teenage daughter is better equipped to handle encounters with wild animals in the jungle than she is with kids her own age.

Peruvian-American Isabela, 18, said she also "grew up with Dora."

"I had the haircut growing up, so I was pretty much asking for people to call me Dora," she told us.

"You've been manifesting this for years!" Jeff interjected. She agreed, adding that the similarities actually caused her a bit of grief as a kid. Now, she's getting the last laugh.

"Everyone thought that it was an insult or something, or like they were teasing me or something, but now, I'm getting paid for it!" she said.

In the film, Eva Longoria plays Elena, Dora's mom. Isabela told us getting to work with the Tejano actress made the experience that much more unforgettable for her.

"She's always been this entity to me growing up," Isabela explained. "I'd always seen her on TV, and I knew who she was, and people said I looked like her. Again, like, full circle. I got to work with her! She's amazing. She's everything you'd imagine and more."

"Really, really fun lady and great mother and multitasker. Definitely," she added. "Showed me how to multitask; still can't do it, though!"

"Dora and the Lost City of Gold" hits theaters August 9.

We seem to always be concerned about women returning to work after having a baby. Sigh.

So when Eva Longoria was asked by TooFab why she decided to accept the role of Dora's mom and film "Dora and The Lost City of Gold" shortly after the birth of her son Santiago, she had the best response.

"I didn't really have a choice," she joked.

Co-star Michael Pena ("Ant-Man and the Wasp"), who plays Dora's dad, chimed in saying, "You could have said no."

Longoria replied:

"I couldn't. I literally could not have said no to this movie. The opportunity this movie provided not only for me but for my community and for people that look like me...I was like, 'I have to do this movie.'"

So she loaded up her family and went to Australia to be a part of the Latin-led cast, she told the media outlet.

Longoria's son turned 1 in early July and she told Parents magazine that she takes him everywhere.

She also opened up about returning to work six weeks after giving birth, saying "breastfeeding while working was hard."

But added that Santi — as she calls him — has been a "dream baby."

"He’s healthy, he’s funny, he’s sweet, he sleeps, he eats — he’s made it easy for us."

"Dora and the Lost City of Gold," which is based off Nickelodeon's kids' TV show "Dora the Explorer," hits theaters Aug. 9.

Braintree teen determined to bring back 90s gameshow ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’


It’s been more than two decades since Alec Borden’s favorite game show went off the air, but the Braintree native’s effort to bring it back is just getting started.

“It’s one of the best game shows that ever aired,” Borden, 19, a student at Massasoit Community College in Massachusetts, told the Braintree Forum.

He’s talking about Legends of the Hidden Temple, a hit game show on Nickelodeon that first hit the air in the 90s. It featured teams of child contestants who faced off over a series of obstacle courses and challenges to reach the treasure inside a “mysterious Mayan temple.” Along with physical challenges, contestants had to answer questions based on lore about the show’s premise, and put together the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, a three-piece - but nearly impossible - puzzle. The series was hosted by Kirk Fogg, with Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad!) as the voice of Olmec.

Borden wasn’t born until after it ended, in 1995 after three seasons. But, he grew up watching reruns, and said he’s been a huge fan ever since. There are online forums for fans of the show, filled with adults who first watched it as kids and are waiting for it to come back, Borden said.

A TV movie based on the show’s premise, starring Isabela Moner (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, 100 Things To Do Before High School, Transformers 5), in addition to Fogg and Baker reprising their respective roles, which was released in 2016. Borden said he had a viewing party at his dad’s house the night it premiered. The movie has only encouraged his and other fans’ determination to put their favorite show back on the air, he said.

Borden’s launched a Change.org petition to convince Nickelodeon to reboot the show. As of Sunday (August 4, 2019), it had about 339 signatures. But if he reaches the right people, he said, he’s sure that together they can “double the game show’s episode count.”

Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving some of its most iconic properties, including Rugrats, Blue's Clues, Rocko's Modern Life, Invader ZIM, All That, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and in previous years, has revived Double Dare, as well as Hey Arnold! and Legends of the Hidden Temple as TV movies.
