Chicago, Illinois - Ohhhhhhhh...! Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? Replay Lincoln Park, Chicago’s favorite arcade bar located at 2833 N. Sheffield Ave., has announced it will transform into The Salty Spitoon, the roughest, toughest sailor club ever to be built, in the city of Bikini Bottom for a new SpongeBob SquarePants pop-up this summer!


Beginning Friday, June 21 guests are invited to hang with SpongeBob and all his underwater pals, including his best friend Patrick Star, Gary the Snail, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs and Sandy the Squirrel with unique art installations, real Krabby Patties and more available throughout the bar.

To celebrate opening weekend, those who RSVP in advance on Facebook will be offered free express entry before 10 p.m.

The SpongeBob SquarePants pop-up will feature all of the sea creatures' favorite hangouts, perfect for fun, aquatic photo opportunities. Those looking to capture some of the characters iconic living quarters can stop by Conch St. to see Patrick's Rock, Squidward's Easter Island Head and SpongeBob's two story, Pineapple House. Individuals can also share what they learned in school at Mrs. Puff's Boating School, which includes a driving course and a sunken lighthouse building. Additionally, visitors wishing to crack the Krabby Patty's secret formula can drop by the Krusty Krab. Perhaps one guest will finally help Plankton steal the recipe after years and years of failure.

In an effort to create an authentic Krabby Patty, Replay Lincoln Park has partnered with 2ndKitchen, an organization that allows businesses to serve food in bars without kitchens, to provide the delicious burger for all to enjoy. With custom artwork and several photo opportunities, guests are encouraged to so sit back, relax and take part in the underwater world. Throughout the pop-up there are several events like a Bubble Bowl halftime show concert, a "how tough are ya" contest, weekly late-night jellyfish raves, karaoke, jellyfish hunting at Jellyfish Fields and an honest to goodness Imagination Box.

Replay Lincoln Park will offer an extensive specialty cocktail menu for the duration of the pop-up, including Kelp Juice, Energy Drink, Patrick's Black "Lemonad" Drink, Jelly Fish Jam Shot and The Secret Formula. Sure to be fan favorites, the bar will also offer Sandy's Helmet, which will be served in a fishbowl and Chum Bucket, served in a bucket like its namesake.

Replay Lincoln Park's Pop-Up Squad, a group of artists that create the concept, décor and artistic elements of Replay's popular pop-ups, is behind the design for the SpongeBob pop-up. The team includes Jeremy Steffen, Raquel Hung, Luis Colindres, Tom Molloy, Tristan Young and Adam Michaels.

Replay offers guests over 60 free vintage arcade games, including pinball, air hockey, skeeball and more. With no cover or tokens needed, Replay invites guests for great fun 5 p.m. – 2 a.m. Monday – Thursday, Friday 3 p.m. – 2 a.m., 12 p.m. – 3 a.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. – 2 a.m. Sunday.

Replay is the most prolific of the many Chicago bars that churn out events with a heavy dose of nostalgia, including Sable Kitchen & Bar’s 90s MTV spring break pop up in March.

The Sponge-Tastic news comes as Nickelodeon is about to launch the network's year-long celebration to commemorate the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Nickelodeon is commemorating 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants with the “Best Year Ever”—a tribute to one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created. SpongeBob launched July 17, 1999, and has reigned as the number-one kids’ animated series on TV for the last 17 years, generating a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony award-winning Broadway musical that's set to tour from Fall 2019 and a global fan base.

The “Best Year Ever” will kick off Friday, July 12, with the premiere of “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” an original mixed live-action and animated special, and leads up to the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, coming summer 2020.

It’s SpongeBob’s birthday in “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” which features for the first time the celebrated voice talent behind SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward and Plankton playing live-action doppelgänger versions of the animated characters they voice. In the one-hour special, Patrick and SpongeBob journey to the surface world, where they come across a few familiar characters during lunchtime rush at The Trusty Slab restaurant. Meanwhile, the Bikini Bottom residents set up a surprise party for SpongeBob. The special will premiere on Friday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon USA, followed very shortly by a global roll-out, and also features special guest stars, including David Hasselhoff (Baywatch), Jack Griffo (The Thundermans), Daniella Perkins (Knight Squad), and Kel Mitchell (All That, Game Shakers).

Nickelodeon will also commemorate the series with: a new product line by master toy partner Alpha Group, featuring figures that showcase SpongeBob’s iconic meme moments; collaborations with lifestyle brand Cynthia Rowley for a SpongeBob wetsuit and international mixed-media artist Romero Britto; the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel and mobile game; a sneaker collaboration with Nike Kyrie 5; a cosmetics line from HipDot Studios, and much more.

Nickelodeon also recently announced that it had greenlit Kamp Koral (working title), an original spinoff series of SpongeBob SquarePants. The CG-animated series (13 episodes) introduces 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants during his summer at sleepaway camp. The series is slated to begin production in June 2019 at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

SpongeBob SquarePants is currently in the midst of its 12th season.

BURBANK, Calif.-May 7, 2019-Eugenio Derbez (Overboard), Ken Jeong (Dr. Ken) and Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) have joined the cast of Nickelodeon’s upcoming original animated series The Casagrandes, which tells the story of the Casagrandes, a big, loving and multi-generational family living together in the city. A companion to the Emmy Award-winning, The Loud House, the new 2D-animated series highlights the culture, humor, and love of growing up in a multi-generational Mexican-American family. The series is set to debut October 2019 on Nickelodeon.

“The Casagrandes highlights the humorous stories and moments of daily life that every kind of family can relate to, and we’re thrilled to have Eugenio, Melissa and Ken on board to make these characters as relatable and funny as can be,” said Ramsey Naito, EVP, Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon. “Nickelodeon will also continue to dive deeper into the characters’ lives in The Loud House, a proven hit with our audience, with a brand-new fifth season.”

Said Derbez: “When I was approached to be part of The Casagrandes, it was an easy yes. It’s culturally specific but will appeal to any kid. It’s outrageous and funny and has heart. This is what a LatinX kid show should look like, big fun and mainstream with some Latin spice. I’m grateful to Nickelodeon for asking me to be a part of it.”

Said Hart: “I will finally be a hero in my own home now that I get to be a part of The Casagrandes animated show. My boys have been huge fans of The Loud House and this is the first project of mine they are truly excited to see.”

In The Casagrandes, Derbez lends his voice as Dr. Santiago, a physician living and working in Peru, who is Ronnie Anne and Bobby’s father; Jeong voices Mr. Stanley Chang, a friendly and patient train conductor; and Hart voices Mrs. Becca Chang, a quirky, smart and funny zoologist and wife to Stanley.

Izabella Alvarez (Westworld) voices the title role of 11-year-old Ronnie Anne, joining Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) who continues to lend his voice as Bobby. Additional new cast members include Leah Mei Gold (Legion) as 12-year-old Sid Chang, Ronnie Anne’s new friend, and Lexi Sexton as Adelaide Chang, Sid’s 6-year-old little sister.

In The Casagrandes, Ronnie Anne’s new life promises to be an adventure, especially now that she lives under one roof with her grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins, and a sass-talking parrot. As if that weren’t enough excitement, she lives over the family-run Mercado, which is a gathering place for everyone in the neighborhood.

Derbez, Jeong and Hart will portray these new characters alongside: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Carlos, Roxana Ortega (The League) as Frida, Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids) as Carlota, Jared Kozak (Born this Way) as CJ, Alex Cazares (The Boss Baby: Back in Business) as Carl; Ruben Garfias (East Los High) as Hector, “Abuelo;” Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street) as Rosa, “Abuela;” and Sumalee Montano (Nashville) as Maria.

Nickelodeon has also greenlit a fifth season (26 episodes) of The Loud House, where big changes are on the horizon. In season five, Lincoln and his friends’ graduate elementary school and face new challenges and adventures as they tackle the trials and tribulations of middle school, each sister moves up a grade and Lori decides if she’s ready to leave home for college. The new season will also showcase holiday themed episodes, introduce new characters, locations and more.

Season four of The Loud House kicks-off Monday, May 27, at 1:00 p.m. (ET/PT) with a special half-hour episode dedicated to the Casagrande family. In The Loud House featuring The Casagrandes,“Friended!” Ronnie Anne makes friends with Sid, a girl whose family wants to rent the apartment upstairs. When it looks like another couple might get it first, the girls resort to sabotage to dissuade them. Season four premieres continue Monday, June 10, through Thurs., June 13, at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT) and Monday, June 17, through Thurs., June 20, at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

The Casagrande family was first introduced in the The Loud House special, “The Loudest Mission: Relative Chaos.” The family appeared throughout the third season of The Loud House and have a five-episode arc coming up in season four, with crossover episodes also planned in season five. The Loud House debuted May 2016 and centers on 11-year-old Lincoln Loud and his ten sisters as he gives an inside look at what it takes to survive the chaos of a huge family.

The Loud House is currently executive produced by Mike Rubiner (KaBlam!). Karen Malach serves as producer and Kyle Marshall is supervising producer. The Casagrandes is also executive produced by Rubiner, with Malach as producer. Update (5/9) - Michelle C. Bonilla has revealed that she'll be voicing Mrs. Flores, a recurring character who lives in the Casagrandes' building, in The Casagrandes! Additionally, The Loud House voice director Lisa Schaffer has also announced that she's also working on The Casagrandes!

The news comes on the heels of The Loud Housewinning two Daytime Emmys over the weekend, for Outstanding Writing for an Animated Program and Outstanding Children’s Animated Series.

Eugenio Derbez will star as Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant in Paramount Players and Nickelodeon Movies' upcoming live-action Dora the Explorer movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, released summer 2019.

Ken Jeong currently stars in Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies hit film, Wonder Park.

Update (6/20) - Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) recently talked about joining the voice cast of The Casagrandes with Parade.com!

“It’s really awesome to be back on the network,” Hart told Parade.com of The Casagrandes, which will premiere in October. “It’s so exciting.”

Hart also revealed that her family are big fans of The Loud House and Henry Danger, and regularly watch them in the mornings before school as part of their morning routine!

"[...] I get myself a cup of tea and since the other two kids don’t have to be at school for another hour at 8:45 [one of Hart's sons has to be at school at 7:45], we’ll usually finish up homework from the night before. Or we watch shows like The Loud House or Henry Danger on Nickelodeon."

It's SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, Nickelodeon France will be hosting a Sponge-Tastic on-air party titled "le plus jaune des étés" ("The Yellowest of Summers") throughout summer 2019 to celebrate 20 years of one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created!


On Saturday 13th July 2019, Nickelodeon France will celebrate the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants with the debut of the brand-new two-part SpongeBob (Bob l'éponge) Birthday Special, “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout”, premiering at 11:35.

It’s SpongeBob’s birthday in “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” an original mixed live-action and animated special which features for the first time the celebrated voice talent behind SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward and Plankton playing live-action doppelgänger versions of the animated characters they voice! In the one-hour special, Bikini Bottom is getting ready for a very special day: SpongeBob's birthday! To mark the occasion, Sandy, helped by the inhabitants of the underwater city, decide to organise a surprise birthday party for SpongeBob. In order to keep the birthday boy away from the preparations, Patrick and SpongeBob go on a crazy trip to the surface world, where they come across a few familiar characters during lunchtime rush at The Trusty Slab restaurant. The special will also feature special guest stars David Hasselhoff (Baywatch, Bob l'éponge, le film), Kel Mitchell (All That, Kenan & Kel, Good Burger), Jack Griffo (Les Thunderman) and Daniella Perkins (L'école des chevaliers). Donning his famous lifeguard attire, Hasselhoff guests as himself in the special, where he runs into a little trouble in an ocean kayak and on the beach. Hasselhoff also notably played himself in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. His return is a special nod to his original performance for fans around the world.

Nickelodeon France will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants all through summer, with special themed marathons showcasing the best moments of SpongeBob SquarePants, airing every Saturday from 8:45! Each marathon will be dedicated to popular characters from the show, including SpongeBob (Bob l'éponge), Patrick Star (Patrick Étoile), Squidward Tentacles (Carlo Tentacule), and Mr. Krabs (Monsieur Krabs).

With this new venture, Viacom is responding to the growing demand for content marketing among advertisers, especially amongst youth brands. Advanced Marketing Solutions is an additional proposition to the existing commercial services offered by RTL-BrandDeli on behalf of Viacom Benelux.


Viacom Advanced Marketing Solutions gives brands the opportunity to work closely with the content teams of Viacom Benelux in specific areas for young people, such as music, fashion, fitness, comedy, gaming and more. BURBANK, Calif.--Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios announced the greenlight of a new animated “Star Trek” series to be developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”) and overseen for Nickelodeon by Ramsey Naito, EVP, Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon.

Debuting exclusively on Nickelodeon, the series expands the “Star Trek” universe for a new generation of fans. The new original CG-animated series follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.

The series will be from CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman. Aaron Baiers will serve as a co-executive producer.

The animated series is the newest addition to the expanding “Star Trek” television universe. It joins STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, a series of short stories tied to DISCOVERY; the new untitled “Star Trek” series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard; STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS from Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty”), an animated series targeted at mature audiences; and a new “Star Trek” project based on “Section 31,” which is in development with Michelle Yeoh attached to star. All these projects, except the new Nickelodeon edition, are on the CBS streaming platform CBS All Access in the U.S.

Emmy Award-winning brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman have written and produced some of the biggest animated franchises in film and television. Update (5/10): In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Alex Kurtzman, who is serving as the executive producer of Nickelodeon's new Star Trek series, promised it is nothing like the 1970s Star Trek cartoon, adding: “I can’t reveal details on that one, but it’s something that has never been done before in ‘Star Trek.’”

May 6, 2019 - CBS Television Studios has created a global franchise group that will manage and maximize the expansion of the "Star Trek" brand beyond the traditional boundaries of linear broadcasting and streaming. This new business unit reports to David Stapf, President of CBS Television Studios.

Leading the new team is Veronica Hart, Executive Vice President, "Star Trek" Global Franchise Management, who will manage the "Star Trek" global brand strategy to support the content development plans being developed within CBS and under the stewardship of Alex Kurtzman.

The unit's goal is to invigorate and broaden the "Star Trek" fan community through additional branding opportunities, such as podcasts, a reinvigorated StarTrek.com and new digital spaces, consumer products and gaming, as well as live experiential events and global attractions. These endeavors to further grow the brand are designed to complement the Studio's expansion of the "Star Trek" universe, which now includes two live-action series, two animated projects and multiple "shorts."

The growing "Star Trek" universe for television includes a new animated "Trek" series from writers Kevin and Dan Hageman for Nickelodeon; STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, a series of short stories tied to DISCOVERY and the overall "Star Trek" universe; the new untitled "Star Trek" series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard; STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS from Mike McMahan ("Rick and Morty"), an animated series targeted at mature audiences; and a new "Star Trek" project based on "Section 31," which is in development with Michelle Yeoh attached to star. With the exception of the new Nickelodeon edition, these series are presented on CBS' streaming service, CBS All Access, in the U.S.

In addition to Hart, the franchise team includes: John Van Citters, VP, "Star Trek" Brand Development, who will work within CBS and across the industry as brand experts while leading the implementation of initiatives and programs; Yasmin Elachi, Director of "Star Trek" Content, in charge of creating, relaunching and maintaining the new StarTrek.com along with overseeing all aspects of "Star Trek" social media in order to present a cohesive online brand; and Gabrielle Oliff, Director of Global Franchise Management Operations, who will focus on executing franchise initiatives and managing the review analytics and preparing presentations for cross-company communication. All are incredibly knowledgeable about the "Star Trek" universe, including legacy, current and future iterations of the series.

"Veronica and her team are not only gifted brand strategists and veteran consumer products executives, they are also experts on the 'Star Trek' canon," said Stapf. "We are excited to launch this new business unit because the brand has an enormously rabid fan base, and we look forward to expanding its reach even further."

The new franchise group will be based out of Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout Productions in Santa Monica, Calif. Kurtzman, who is under an overall deal at the Studio, is the executive producer of the various "Star Trek" series.

Update (5/23) - In an interview TheHDRoom, the Hageman Brothers revealed how they came to be involved with Nickelodeon's new Star Trek project!:

Your Nickelodeon Star Trek animated project is a return to your roots in a sense. Was this something that fell in your lap or did you actively seek the job out?

They pursued us, and we’re glad they did, because it’s quickly turning into our favorite project.

How would you compare the target age and tone of the Star Trek project to Ninjago, or is it still to early to share that information?

Our aim for all of our projects is that this is a show that the whole family can enjoy.

Star Trek was a massively passionate fan base like Ninjago. You must feel well-equipped to accept any praise or criticism with Star Trek from your Ninjago days experience.

Haha, yes. That thought did come across our minds.

Will you continue to regularly interact with Star Trek fans on social media like you have with Ninjago fans over the years?

We love interacting with fans. Star Trek is a little more or a guarded IP, so we’ll have to police ourselves more. Tommy [Andreasen] wouldn’t last a day keeping all those secrets.

Update (6/18) - Alex Kurtzman, the co-creator of Star Trek: Discovery, has given fans an update about Nickelodeon's currently untitled upcoming Star Trek series during the latest episode of Deadline's Crew Call podcast, including that the show has just completed its first storyboards!

During the interview, Kurtzman said: "I won’t announce the name of the Nickelodeon show, but that’s a really different show [from Lower Decks].

That’s a show that’s for kids, younger. Full CG animation. It’s going to be incredibly cinematic. We just started seeing [story]boards this week. It looks like, wow. It’s on par with Love, Death, and Robots in terms of beauty and lighting and cinema, so it’s a a really different feel, and Nickelodeon has been wildly supportive and I think very excited to bring a new energy to TV, you know, in animation."

Kurtzman also revealed that the new show is targeting a much younger age bracket, which he says you have Star Wars to thank for. In general, audiences for Star Trek develop as young as 9-12 years of age, but the Star Wars franchise is accessible to much younger viewers. Kurtzman said that at age four, he could picture himself "staring up at the twin suns of Tattooine" and now he wants to make Star Trek palatable for younger generations.

Update - 6/21: One question that a number of fans have been wondering is if the show will feature familiar Star Trek voices. Kurtzman makes it very clear that unlike Star Trek: The Animated Series which saw most of the original crew reprise their roles. These two animated shows are going in a different direction. But he does leave a bit of hope out there.

“It’s mostly new. There may be some that you know, but it’s mostly new.

Animation is in an incredible, glorious renaissance right now. Between [Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse] which just blew everything open and everything Pixar’s been doing for so very long, I think what I’m excited about in the world of animation is to try all these different things to see what feels ‘Trek.’”

The burgeoning division has named former Bunim/Murray Productions' talent producer Paul Medford its new VP of current series.


In an effort to appeal to a broader, co-viewing audience, Nickelodeon has appointed veteran unscripted TV producer Paul J. Medford as Vice President (VP) of current series for its unscripted division.

In his new role, Medford will serve as executive in charge of Nick’s current slate of live-action unscripted shows, including previously greenlit series America’s Most Musical Family, The Substitute and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. He will also manage the creative production process for the division’s content across all of Nickelodeon’s platforms.

Reporting to Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President (EVP) of Unscripted Content, Medford will operate out of Nickelodeon’s Burbank headquarters. His role includes managing the creative production process for unscripted content across all platforms.

Before joining Nickelodeon, Medford was a talent producer at LA-based unscripted-focused company Bunim/Murray Productions, which is currently co-producing a U.S. version of the hit British game show The Crystal Maze with Nickelodeon. Bagshaw also previously served at BMP as Senior Vice President (SVP) and head of its New York office before jumping to Nick when it launched its unscripted division in January.

Prior to BMP, Medford cast and produced a number of series, including America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and Skin Wars, as well as E!’s upcoming The Funny Dance Show. He began his career in front of the camera, including roles in the BBC soap EastEnders and a range of stage productions.

Bagshaw said, “Paul’s extensive experience in film, theater, television and music, together with his reputation and passion for unscripted content makes him an invaluable asset to Nickelodeon. We are thrilled to have him join our expanding unscripted division, creating a slate of exciting new content focused on co-viewing for a broad audience.”
