NEW YORK--Nickelodeon is giving kids and families the chance to see, feel and get doused in its iconic green goo at Slime City, the brand’s first-ever pop-up experience dedicated to all things slime. Opening in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, GA, on Saturday, June 15, and running through September, fans will have the opportunity to create their own gooey slime concoction and receive Nickelodeon’s ultimate honor– getting slimed! The installation will take visitors on an experiential slime-filled adventure throughout a unique 20,000 square-foot space that features an array of insta-worthy, slime-tastic moments for kids of all ages.

Tickets will be available on www.NickSlimeCity.com, where visitors can also sign up for Slime City updates. From May 16 to June 14 only, tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate.

“Our iconic slime is the ultimate symbol of free-spirited mess and the physical embodiment of the fun and irreverent spirit of Nickelodeon,” said Sharon Cohen, Executive Vice President, The Nick Experience. “We are excited to bring Slime City to Atlanta to offer this brand-new way for kids and families to interact with our signature slime through a dynamic space for a fun-filled summer.”

The Nickelodeon Slime City experience will feature eight unique, themed spaces designed to let visitors interact with slime in various ways including:

  • Slime HQ– Spin wheels, turn levers and touch slime to keep the gallons of green goodness pumping through the pipes and tubes.
  • Great Wall of Slime– Visitors are invited to leave their mark and make an impression on the giant pin wall to create awesome slime shapes and silhouettes.
  • Slime-Tennial Park– Paying homage to Atlanta’s famous Centennial Olympic Park, visitors can take a spin or a swing on an exciting slime-inspired playground.
  • Slime Bubble-Torium– In this slime bubble-filled world, guests can burst goopy green bubbles.
  • Slime Central– It’s slime time, where visitors receive Nickelodeon’s ultimate honor of being slimed.

Reboot of the Iconic Preschool Series to Debut on Nickelodeon in November with Product Hitting Retail in Fall 2020

NEW YORK--Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products (VNCP) today announced the first licensees for Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues & You!, a reboot of the groundbreaking curriculum-driven interactive series Blue’s Clues. Just Play will be the global preschool toy partner for plush, figures, playsets and role play, Vtech will be the global partner for early learning toys, and Cardinal will manage games and puzzles. Blue’s Clues & You! will be featured at VNCP’s Licensing Expo booth (#O180), June 4–6, in Las Vegas, NV.

Blue’s Clues & You! is quickly building buzz and excitement, and we are so proud to reintroduce this iconic show to a new generation of kids, and also to terrific licensing partners who can bring these beloved characters to life through product,” said Jennifer Caveza, Senior Vice President, Toys, Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products. “Blue’s Clues was Nickelodeon’s first ever billion-dollar consumer products brand, and there’s already a ton of excitement with retailers for this dynamic new take on the franchise.”

Blue’s Clues & You! will have a new generation of preschoolers searching for clues with beloved puppy Blue and feature a new host, Joshua Dela Cruz, and a refreshed signature look. In each episode, Blue invites viewers to join them on a clue-led adventure to solve a daily puzzle. With each signature paw print, Blue identifies clues in her animated world that propel the story and inspires viewers to interact with the action. Three episodes of the series will debut on Walmart’s video service, Vudu, prior to its launch on Nickelodeon in November.


The original Blue’s Clues series launched in September 1996 to critical praise from educators, parents and preschoolers and ran for six groundbreaking seasons. Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues drew acclaim for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions and anatomy.

Similar to the original series, Nickelodeon is planning to localize the series in at least five territories, bringing Blue’s Clues & You to air in native languages. The original series was localised in two markets: in the UK, where it was hosted by Kevin Duala, and in Portugal, where it was hosted by Duarte Gomes.

You’re not going to need your handy dandy notebook to figure out what Nickelodeon has lined up for the new Blue’s Clues licensing program.

With plans to modernize the popular franchise for today’s kids, Viacom Nickelodeon consumer products has partnered with its first licensees for the rebooted preschool series Blue’s Clues & You!

Floridian toyco Just Play has signed on as the global preschool toy partner for plush (including Blue and Magenta offerings), figures, playsets and roleplay. While, Hong Kong’s VTech will be the brand’s global partner for early learning toys with modern tech features. Rounding out the initial partners is New York-based Cardinal, which is going to manage games and puzzles. The new products will arrive on retail shelves in fall 2020.

Blues Clues was Nickelodeon’s first billion-dollar franchise, says SVP of toys for Viacom Nickelodeon consumer products, Jennifer Caveza, but it needs to come up with new and exciting products for today’s kids to be able to harness that previous success. Releasing the new series and its CP years after the original show aired gave Nickelodeon the opportunity to take what worked with the original series, update the products with the show’s new CGI look and leverage the nostalgia the show’s original fans still hold on to.

“The benefit to developing a line of product for a reboot like Blue’s Clues is the show has history with fans and retailers, and we were able to pull sales data, speak with the original retail buyers and also do consumer testing to understand what is resonating with kids today,” says Caveza. “We understand how kids watch, learn and play with this iconic series, and the new Blue’s Clues & You! consumer product line is being crafted based on these insights.”

The kidsnet did research into the success of the original CP program and knew that the brand’s familiar categories like plush and playsets should be a big part of the new lineup. Nickelodeon also knew that to make the series fresh for the newest generation, the new CP had to incorporate tech toys that could connect with them.

Moving forward, the kidsnet wants to partner with other techcos to incorporate updated technologies into the brand’s CP.

“We have a history of doing successful reboots and we manage to create these evergreen brands,” says Caveza. “This is one that, with its built-in audience, the new tech features and the nostalgia, has the potential to become that for us.”

Popular items from the first go-around including the handy dandy notebook and the mailbox are two toys that could be getting a tech-makeover from VTech and other tech companies. The kidsnet has plans to connect the toys to Nickelodeon’s apps and have them receive emails, though this is just a concept at this point and there are no details yet on how the company will actually role out products like this. “With technology in mind, we are exploring partners who can develop toys tied to content, whether it be interacting with the show on-air or through our apps,” says Caveza.

Similar to the original series, which debuted in 1996, the reboot revolves around the titular dog Blue and the show’s new host Joshua Dela Cruz who will lead viewers on an adventure to solve puzzles. Although specific dates haven’t been announced yet, three eps will debut on Walmart’s new video service Vudu before the official premiere on Nickelodeon in November.

ALL-NEW VERSION OF UK HIT GAME SHOW


BURBANK, Calif.—June 3, 2019—Nickelodeon is bringing the legendary UK hit game show The Crystal Maze to the U.S. in an all-new version, co-produced by Bunim/Murray Productions (The Real World, The Challenge, Born This Way) and RDF Television (Secret Life of 4 Year Olds, Wife Swap, Shipwrecked), all under the Banijay Group. A longtime staple of British pop culture and family entertainment, The Crystal Maze--considered the forerunner to the current escape room craze--is a competitive challenge featuring a family team who must utilize physical and mental skills to successfully navigate an elaborate labyrinth of four giant and immersive themed zones.

Casting is underway on the new series (10 one-hour episodes) which begins production on the original set in Bristol, England, this summer. The show’s host, who guides the family through each challenge and adventure, and the series premiere, will be announced at a later date.

Nickelodeon’s version of The Crystal Maze will feature a team of family members tackling a range of challenges in zones collectively known as The Crystal Maze. Each successful game is rewarded with a ‘time crystal’ that equals five seconds in the centerpiece Crystal Dome. Show of the week: “Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty”

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty is the newest Nick show focusing on Felicity – a part- rainbow, part-butterfly, part-unicorn kitty with superpowers.

The 2D animated mash-up show follows Felicity and best friend Miguel, as they take on every challenge that arrives in the magical land of Mythlandia.

Felicity can shoot glow sticks from her paws, lasers from her horn, stretch and snap in rainbow mode, and clap thunderously with her butterfly wings. Most of all, she embraces the things that are unique and special to her and her friends.

The show debuted on Nickelodeon in the US in January and will roll out to more than 170 Nick channels worldwide later this year.

Jetpack Distribution will bring the title to MIPTV and distribute it in tandem with Nick and shop the series across select territories, SVODs and AVODs.

“She’s just super cute,” says Dominic Gardiner, CEO at Jetpack Distribution. “But from a more commercial business perspective it is becoming more of a franchise. We have a lot of stuff in our portfolio that’s very story driven and not overtly commercial and we wanted something with that potential as well.”

The 52 x 11-minute series, aimed at 6-11 year olds, uses photo real textures, hand-drawn elements and a bright colour palette to create the fantasy world.

“One thing creator [Rich Magallanes] said is he wanted to create a show that when you say the title, as a kid you would get it right, but parents would always get it wrong. Kids love that kind of thing because it makes them laugh.”

Created and produced by California-based toy and entertainment company Funrise, Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty follows the comedic adventures of a spirited and adorable kitty named Felicity who possesses special transformative powers.

Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty centers around a spirited and adorable kitty named Felicity who acquires magical and majestic powers. Part rainbow, part butterfly, part unicorn and 100 percent kitty, Felicity has transformative powers where she can lasso items in the form of a full-fledged rainbow, shoot glow sticks from her paws, fire lasers from her unicorn horn, stretch and snap in rainbow mode, and clap thunderously with her butterfly wings. Also in the episode, an ancient Anubis king tests Miguel to see if he's ready to leave Mythlandia and become the next ruler of the underworld.

Nickelodeon has acquired the global rights to Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty. The series made its Nickelodeon debut on Nick USA on Sunday 27th January 2019. Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) has announced the exciting news that they have once again partnered with Jantje Beton, an organisation dedicated to providing youth services, to hold the 12th edition of Buitenspeeldag, Nickelodeon Nederland's localised version of Nickelodeon's "Worldwide Day of Play", on Wednesday 12th June 2019!


For Buitenspeeldag 2019, Nickelodeon and Jantje Beton are inviting everyone to help make the Netherlands one big playground, and to organise and register activities on Nickelodeon and Jantje Beton's giant map, so that thousands of children across the Netherlands can go outside and play, whether in a garden, in a park or at a playground!

On Wednesday 12th June 2019, games will be anything but boring or unsafe. Throughout the Netherlands, streets will be closed and places will be transformed into giant playgrounds so that children can enjoy a day of fun and games with friends!


Nickelodeon will commemorate its 12th annual Buitenspeeldag celebration when the network will once again suspend programming in order to encourage kids to go outside and get active.

Nickelodeon and Jantje Beton are calling on municipalities, parents and caregivers, playgrounds, schools, youth clubs, youth organisations and associations to help turn the Netherlands into one of the biggest playgrounds on the planet by organising tons of fun activities for kids! Activities can then be submitted to be placed on Nickelodeon and Jantje Beton's Buitenspeeldag 2019 map at www.buitenspeeldag.nl. Registrants will be receive a free 'Here We Play' banner, and be entered into an exclusive competition for the chance to win a visit from Nickelodeon to their own outdoor play activity!

Vierhonderd kinderen verwacht op Buitenspeeldag

ZOUTLEEUW - De Buitenspeeldag is een initiatief van Nickelodeon en de Vlaamse Overheid en wordt op woensdag 24 april al voor de twaalfde keer georganiseerd Aen den Hoorn en in het stadspark. Je kan er naar welbelieven in- en uitlopen
Op die dag gaan zowel Nickelodeon als Ketnet en VTM KZoom een hele namiddag op “zwart”’. Overal in Vlaanderen worden buiten activiteiten georganiseerd waarin kinderen en jongeren al hun energie kwijt kunnen.

De voorbije edities zijn telkens toch meer dan vierhonderd kinderen komen spelen in Zoutleeuw. Dit jaar rekenen de organisatoren op mooi weer en hopen dit aantal deelnemers zeker te kunnen evenaren.

De activiteiten vinden plaats op het plein Aen den Hoorn en vooraan in het stadspark. Op die manier worden de prachtige speeltuigen aan GC De Passant, en ook het skateterrein geïntegreerd in de speelruimte.

Stevig te ravotten in de buitenlucht kan op de springkastelen en het skatepark. Je kan ook terecht voor een wedstrijdje voetbal of badminton, om te dansen, te springen en nog zoveel meer…

Buitenspeeldag wordt op 12 juni gehouden in Krimpen aan den IJssel

Op woensdag 12 juni wordt de jaarlijkse Buitenspeeldag georganiseerd. Die dag proberen Jantje Beton en Nickelodeon één grote speelplek te maken van Nederland, zodat 150.000 kinderen tijdens deze 12e editie onbezorgd kunnen spelen.

Krimpen aan den IJssel - Ook in Krimpen aan den IJssel is buitenspelen tijdens de Buitenspeeldag allesbehalve saai en onveilig. Samen met lokale organisaties zorgt Synerkri dit jaar weer voor veel buitenspeelplezier op het Tuyterplein.

Want buitenspelen is gezond en leuk! Dit jaar helpen 28 leerlingen van het Comenius College Krimpen mee om van deze dag een succes te maken. Het wordt een middag vol sport, spel, natuur ontdekken, XL bellenblazen en stoepkrijten!

Sliedrecht - Op woensdag 12 juni wordt de jaarlijkse Buitenspeeldag georganiseerd: een activiteit voor kinderen bij u in de buurt. Die dag proberen Jantje Beton en Nickelodeon één grote speelplek te maken van Nederland, zodat 150.000 kinderen tijdens deze 12e editie onbezorgd kunnen spelen.

Ook in Sliedrecht is buitenspelen tijdens de Buitenspeeldag allesbehalve saai en onveilig. Die dag organiseert ‘S.O.J.S.’ samen met ‘Samen voor Sliedrecht’ en tal van vrijwilligers een middag vol met activiteiten zodat zoveel mogelijk kinderen onbezorgd kunnen spelen. Want buitenspelen is gezond en leuk!

Het doel van deze middag is om te bewegen en lekker buiten te zijn. Ook kun je spuiten met een echte brandslang bij de brandweerwagen, sport en spel activiteiten doen en jezelf uitleven op meerdere springkussens. Papa’s en mama’s mogen er uiteraard bij zijn om overal foto’s van te maken. Heb je de leeftijd dat je nog niet alleen kan komen, dan raden we aan om iemand mee te nemen die op je kan letten. Wij staan wel bij onderdelen te kijken en te helpen, maar kunnen niet op de kinderen persoonlijk letten.

Vanaf 12uur is het terrein open waarbij je heerlijk op het gras met je eigen meegebrachte lunch kunt picknicken. En vanaf 13:00uur zal de dag officieel geopend worden waarna er plezierig gespeeld kan gaan worden. De dag zal duren tot 16:30uur en toegang is geheel gratis! Tot woensdag 12 juni!

DIEMEN - De Stichting Welzijn Diemen (SWD) organiseert op woensdagmiddag 12 juni de Nationale Buitenspeeldag in Diemen. Het evenement wordt gehouden in de speeltuin op het Van Markenplantsoen en duurt van 13.00 tot 17.00 uur.

De Nationale Buitenspeeldag is een landelijk initiatief van Jantje Beton en Nickelodeon. Er worden die middag leuke spelletjes gespeeld en wedstrijden gehouden. Ook kunnen de kinderen lekker vrij spelen.

Alle kinderen zijn welkom en de deelname is gratis. Stichting Welzijn Diemen is op zoek naar ouders en verzorgers van kinderen die als vrijwilliger willen helpen om de Nationale Buitenspeeldag een groot succes te maken.

DRIEBERGEN Op woensdag 12 juni is het nationale buitenspeeldag. Al ruim tien jaar wordt deze dag jaarlijks georganiseerd door Jantje Beton met medewerking van televisiezender Nickelodeon. Jantje Beton is al tientallen jaren bekend als de grote stimulator achter buiten spelen. Ook in Driebergen kunnen kinderen tijdens de buitenspeeldag terecht voor leuke activiteiten. Op het grasveld aan de Sperwerkamp organiseert Buurthuis De Brug een gezellige spelletjesmiddag.

,,Buitenspelen is heel belangrijk, maar de laatste jaren minden vanzelfsprekend dan voorheen", zegt Evita Hendriks namens het buurthuis dat aan de Sperwerkamp gevestigd is. ,,Dat is iets dat bij deze tijd past. Ik vind dat best jammer, want buitenspelen is niet alleen leuk, maar ook erg goed voor je gezondheid en ontwikkeling."

SPEELRUIMTE ,,Ik heb hele goede herinneringen aan buiten spelen", zegt Hendriks. ,,Lekker hutten bouwen of stoepranden." Mede door de opkomst van spelcomputers en het feit dat er bijna de hele dag televisie-uitzendingen zijn, spelen kinderen minder buiten dan vroeger. Jantje Beton is een organisatie die graag ziet dat kinderen meer buiten spelen en zet zich hier voor in.

Jantje Beton is in 1968 ontstaan omdat er steeds meer bebouwing kwam. Hierdoor ontstond er minder ruimte om kinderen buiten te laten spelen. Tegenwoordig doen jaarlijks ruim 350.000 kinderen mee aan de activiteiten en projecten van Jantje Beton. Kwetsbare kinderen krijgen hierbij speciale aandacht. Kinderen moeten steeds meer en spelen steeds minder, terwijl spelen belangrijk is voor de ontwikkeling van kinderen. Dit geldt voor zowel de lichamelijke als de geestelijke ontwikkeling.

SPELLETJES Buurthuis De Brug draagt een steentje bij door de buitenspeeldag te organiseren in de wijk De Wildbaan. ,,Kinderen zijn van 14.00 tot 16.00 uur welkom", laat Evita Hendriks weten. ,,We gaan ouderwetse Hollandse spelletjes spelen. Hierbij kun je denken aan onder anderen Ezeltje prik. Er is ook een koe die je kunt melken en waar ranja uit komt."

Gastvrouwen Crista en Evita roepen dan ook iedereen op om te komen. ,,Nodig al je vriendjes, vriendinnetjes, neefjes en nichtjes uit om met zijn allen mee te doen op het grasveld van de Sperwerkamp met verschillende activiteiten. Daarnaast zorgen wij voor iets lekkers." Bij slecht weer wordt een deel van de activiteiten naar binnen verschoven. ,,Vorig jaar organiseerden we deze activiteit voor de eerste keer", zegt Evita Hendriks. ,,Toen hadden we een kleine veertig kinderen te gast. We hopen dat we hen dit jaar weer mogen verwelkomen."

DE BRUG Buurthuis De Brug is sinds drie jaar actief aan De Sperwerkamp. In het buurthuis worden diverse activiteiten voor diverse doelgroepen georganiseerd. ,,Deze middag kunnen we mede mogelijk maken dankzij de gift van het Oranjefonds en de Postcodeloterij die we eerder dit jaar mochten ontvangen", sluit Hendriks af.

A new arc of Dark Horse’s Legend of Korra graphic novels from series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko is on the horizon – one that returns Korra’s big bad Kuvira to the story, and offers her a shot at redemption.


With the new arc, which kicks off with Tuesday, May 21’s Ruins of the Empire, artist Michelle Wong joins the Korra creative team to explore the situation in the Earth Empire as it transitions from monarchy to democracy.

Newsarama recently had a chance to talk to Michael Dante DiMartino and Michelle Wong about what fans can expect from the upcoming graphic novel, including the series politics, the return of Kuvira, and the development of Korrasami.

Newsarama: Michael, What can you tease about this upcoming arc that kicks off in The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire?

Michael Dante DiMartino: At the end of the series, King Wu talks about abdicating his throne and turning the Earth Kingdom democratic. I started wondering what that would look like in real life. It's one thing to have a noble ideal of democracy, but the Earth Kingdom's history is entrenched in tradition, bureaucracy, and monarchies, so the challenges to making free elections a reality would be enormous. In the real world, people aren't always keen on upending the status quo, so it seemed believable, and quite relevant to our times, to tell a story that dealt with an old regime refusing to yield to progressive politics. That conflict forms the spine of the story through the three-volume arc.

We also get to see Zhu Li in action as the president and Bolin performing a new job. We'll also return to some familiar locations from the series and revisit some old friends.

Nrama: Michelle, how did your collaboration with Bryan and Michael come about?

Michelle Wong: You know what, I actually never asked about the specifics behind how I was chosen for this job! I just received an email from Dark Horse one day asking whether I was interested in drawing the Korra comics, which, yes of course, sign me the hell up. Dave Marshall, the editor who contacted me at the time, mentioned that the team at Nickelodeon were fans of my work -- which was flattering and mildly terrifying at the same time. I did some style tests, they liked it, and now here I am. It’s been a great honor and a great learning experience.

Nrama: How did you get into the Avatar franchise?

Wong: Toph was the character who pulled me into the original series -- I remember seeing her character design and thinking, wow she looks awesome, I have to see where she’s from. I loved her story and her attitude. She remained my favorite in ATLA, and I’m really happy I get to draw her in Ruins too.

Nrama: Do you have a favorite character from Avatar/Korra that you like to draw?

Wong: Toph! But also Asami, Wu, Kuvira -- I’m cheating and just listing a bunch of characters but it’s difficult to choose. Asami is beautiful, who wouldn’t like drawing her? And Wu is fun because he can be so ridiculous.

Nrama: What’s your favorite style of bending?

Wong: Waterbending. I’m completely biased about this, having taken those online quizzes in the past that told me I was a waterbender. But I also just think it’s got the most interesting range of sub-skills, and I love how graceful it is.

Nrama: What can you tell us about Korra and Asami’s dynamic this arc?

DiMartino: They are an established couple, who would do anything for each other. But when Korra proposes working with Kuvira (who killed Asami's father), it definitely creates some strains in their relationship. They aren't always on the same page when it comes to how to approach the conflicts in the main story, but they admire and respect each other so much that they can work through those disagreements. In the later volumes, outside forces end up putting unexpected pressure on their bond.

Nrama: Korrasami has been such a huge part of these graphic novels. How do you approach drawing their relationship?

Wong: At this point in the graphic novels, Korra and Asami are a solid couple -- they’ve been together for a bit, and were friends for years before that, made their love confessions in Turf Wars -- so a lot of their interactions in Ruins just show how comfortable they are with each other. I love being able to depict the quieter moments between them. Whenever there is a group scene, I try to draw them together. I know it will make the fans happy, and I also just want to show that even if they’re at a point where they need to work through some conflict, they still naturally gravitate towards each other.

Nrama: What made you want to bring back Kuvira for this storyline?

DiMartino: Kuvira was one of my favorite antagonists from Legend of Korra. I wanted to explore whether or not someone with her past, who had done a lot of terrible things, could be redeemed. I thought it would be interesting to see Kuvira stand trial for her war crimes and join forces with Team Avatar to combat a group of Earth Empire loyalists who try to reassert their power. And although Kuvira had surrendered at the end of the animated series, she had caused a lot of mayhem, both in the world and with her adoptive family, the Beifongs. I knew there was a lot of great character moments to be mined between Kuvira and Su, as well as the other Beifongs, and see if a family could heal after such a terrible rift.

Nrama: What are you most looking forward for fans to see with your artwork?

Wong: There are some brief flashbacks that show Kuvira’s backstory, and I get to draw her being an absolute terror of a child. Very, very excited to share that.

Nrama: Kuvira is damaged after her battle with Korra. What went into drawing this broken down version of her character?

Wong: I always liked the moments in Book 4 where her usually put-together appearance came loose after a fight. She was unafraid to get down and dirty, and to be ruthless to her enemies. At the start of Ruins she no longer has her carefully maintained dignity and control, and I tried to focus on this more feral part of Kuvira that I imagine was always lying under the surface.

Nrama: Are there any new character designs you were able to introduce? Any favorites?

Wong: Yes! Some villains, some side characters. A lot of the cast are already established, this series being quite closely tied to Book 4. The new villain, Commander Guan, was not designed by me, but he’s got a bunch of smug villain moments that have been very fun to draw.

The Legend of Korra's New Evil Empire May Be Its Most Sinister

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire -- Part One, from Michael Dante DiMartino, Michelle Wong, Vivian Ng and Rachel Deering, on sale now.

As much fun as it's been watching the elemental tribes of Air, Water, Fire and Earth groom warriors in Avatar: The Last Airbender and then on The Legend of Korra, the franchise's most important aspect is the philosophy of how nations should coexist rather than war.

Following the end of the latter Nickelodeon series in 2014, a new trilogy of graphic novels has begun plotting the way forward for Earth Kingdom starting with The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire. And while the in-canon comic embraces the idea of democracy, we're quickly finding out the series' newest villain is weaponizing that concept en route to shaping the most dangerous empire ever.

This perversions of the series' main lesson comes courtesy of the sinister Commander Guan, in Gaoling. He's taken over the Earth Empire from Kuvira, who gave up as the series ended after the Avatar, Korra, talked her out of her wicked ways. Guan, however, doesn't believe the Earth Empire Kuvira started as a tool of evil, and decides to repurpose it for his own nefarious means -- to win an election.

While we first see Guan possibly looking to seize power with the remnants of Kuvira's military and technology, it turns out he's all about the brainy approach. With King Wu making it clear each state can elect a governor now freely and fairly, Guan isn't forcing his way to power in Gaoling through military might -- he's actually going to run for office. The kicker is, he's planning to steal the election through mind-control technology.

Guan saw the error in Kuvira's endgame, and he's course-correcting the approach of the Earth Empire. Politics, after all, is even more powerful than guns and tanks, even if cheating is his strategy. He knows the king, Korra and all the heroes can't stop him, as it'll look like a dictatorship if they bar him from attaining his goal. In other words, he can turn the people on them for good if they oppose him too strongly. Korra, however, pulls a Hail Mary solution out of thin air by suggesting their old friend Toph stick up for her homeland and oppose the wannabe ruler.


Guan's new direction is even ticking off Kuvira, who wants him to stop what she basically started. But as he feigns the cutting of ties with war and arms, the people are playing right into his hands, lapping it all up. They, too, believe Korra's warriors are instruments of mass destruction, who if unchecked could lead to disaster and civilizations crumbling again. Guan is cleverly playing on their fears, embarking on doctrines and principles we'd find with Nazis or other fascist regimes, but he's doing it subtly enough that most people won't notice.

Brainwashing the populace like this is true testament to the ruins Kuvira left her rebellious empire in. These people are so close to the tipping point, it's not hard to knock them over. They're mentally susceptible and easy for Guan to reprogram after being collateral damage in years of war between nations. If he fully converts them, Guan could have a shield similar to what Cersei had at King's Landing, with a fleet of innocents in front of him and stopping Korra, Kuvira and Co. from throwing him off his high horse. We may not like Guan's direction, but credit where credit is due, he's perfectly manipulating the system to his advantage, becoming a politician who's stacking up artillery on the down-low for when things get out of hand.

Nick Jr. Italy (Italia) will premiere the brand-new CG-animated preschool series 44 Cats on Monday 10th June 2019 at 19:30! Created and directed by Iginio Straffi, the founder of Italian content powerhouse Rainbow Group, the makers of Winx Club and Regal Academy, and produced by Rainbow in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, following launch, new episodes will air regularly weekdays at 19:30 on Nick Jr. Italia, Nickelodeon Italia's top-rated preschool channel. The series is locally titled 44 gatti in Italy.


Set in the world of animals, 44 Cats (52 eps x c. 13') follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball – four adorable kittens who are part of a music band named The Buffycats.

The protagonists live and play in the Clubhouse, a garage beside old Granny Pina’s house. Their adventures explore the themes of friendship and altruism: the four cats love helping others and always find creative solutions to everyday hitches and help other cats in need. The series promotes positive attitudes and conveys educational messages dealing with important themes such as tolerance, diversity and solidarity in a funny way.

This eagerly anticipated show made its world debut on Rai Yoyo in Italy on Monday 12th November 2018. Nickelodeon International acquired the broadcast rights to the series in May 2018, and will roll the animated series out on Nickelodeon channels and branded blocks around the world, excluding Latin America, throughout 2019.

44 Cats is inspired by the very popular Italian kids song "44 Gatti", which, in 1968, won the 10th edition of the Zecchino d'Oro and has since entered the collective imagination of Italians.

44 Cats is the first Rainbow Group production jointly developed with Bardel Entertainment, the Canadian animation studio it acquired in 2015, and jointly produced in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi, and combines great music and edutainment with high quality animation. The series also marks Rainbow’s (Winx Club, Regal Academy, Club 57, Mia and me, Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends) inaugural foray into preschool programming.

Rainbow inked a licensing deal for 44 Cats with Thai Group’s Hong Kong-based company, Toy Plus in August 2018. Under the terms of the agreement, Toy Plus will develop a variety of products including interactive plush, figurines, play sets, musical toys and more based on the music, creative play patterns and collectability featured in the series. The line of merchandise debuted in Hong Kong in October, and is slated to become available for purchase around the world in fall 2019.

Rainbow has also secured a new licensing deal for 44 Cats with holistic lifestyle company Artsana Group. Under the agreement, the company will develop a range of licensed 44 Cats-themed infant educational toys for infants and a nursing line under its Chicco brand, the largest infant brand in Europe. The deal also includes apparel and accessories collections by Prenatal and Chicco. Products are expected to hit retail shelves later this year and will be supported by a dedicated, high-level marketing campaign delivered jointly by Rainbow and Artsana Group, which is also based in Italy.

Additionally, Rainbow has tapped The Joester Loria Group (JLG) to represent the 44 Cats animated series in the U.S., and Bandai America has been appointed by master toy partner Toy Plus to distribute their full range of 44 Cats toys in the U.S., Canada and Australia markets. A collection including figurines, play sets, plush, and musical toys will debut at retailers early next year. Simba Dickie Group’s is the exclusive distributor for Europe and the Middle East.

44 Gatti become the most watched Italian-produced cartoon of 2018 when it debuted on Rai Yoyo on Monday 12th November 2018, recording record ratings of 527,000 viewers and a 2.71% audience share, helping Rai Yoyo to continue to be the most watched children's channel in Italy! Since its debut, 44 Gatti has also held the record for the highest viewing share amongst children aged 4-7 years, reaching 16% and an average audience of 350,000 viewers in the 19.15 timeslot.

Copyrights Group & Rockefeller Productions Announce 'Paddington' Stage Show

Copyrights Group is teaming up with Rockefeller Productions to bring Paddington to the stage in a new show, launching 2020.


Targeted at a preschool audience, the stage show will feature Paddington on stage in puppet form for the first time.

The show, inspired by the stories of the lovable bear from Darkest Peru, will launch in the US and Canada from 2020 and will be created by Jonathan Rockefeller, Rockefeller Productions.

“The Paddington books were a staple of my childhood. The antics of the kind-hearted and accident prone bear have always made me, and so many others, smile. I am thrilled to bring this celebrated bear to the stage in a way that audiences have never experienced him before,” said Jonathan Rockefeller.

Polly Emery, SVP brand and international licensing, Copyrights Group, added: “Paddington has been entertaining audiences for over 60 years across both books and movies, and he will be appearing soon in a new animated TV series. We are excited to be working with Rockefeller Productions to bring Paddington to the stage and to enable young kids and their families to enter into Paddington’s world and engage with him in real life.”

The news comes as Heyday Films and STUDIOCANAL in association with Copyrights are in the midst of producing a brand-new CG-animated preschool series inspired by the Paddington franchise, following the adventures of a younger Paddington, for Nickelodeon.

Fully animated in 3D, the new Paddington (working title) series sees a younger Paddington writing to Aunt Lucy from Windsor Gardens. Each episode will open and close with Paddington’s letters as he tells Aunt Lucy what he has learned about life through the day’s new exciting adventure. The series will invite a new generation of fans into Paddington’s world full of heart, kindness, slapstick humour, fun and generosity. The new series will see actor Ben Whishaw (Paddington 1 & 2) reprise his role as the beloved voice of the titular character.


Announced as part of Nickelodeon Upfront 2019, the new Paddington series is set to debut on Nickelodeon with a winter special later this year, followed by a full launch in Spring 2020. The series will air on Nickelodeon’s networks worldwide in 2020, while local broadcast partners will be secured in France, Canada, China and Japan.

The show will not be the first time Paddington appears on the stage. The Copyrights Group partnered with Butlin for the “Paddington at the Seaside” live event.

Nickelodeon's 'All That' Revival Will Continue to Use Iconic TLC Theme Song

When Nickelodeon announced that it was reviving its iconic sketch comedy series All That was announced, fans were assured that they could expect cameos from original cast members like Josh Server and Lori Beth Denberg. But what about the classic theme song performed by none other than 90's favorite, TLC?


Star of the original All That and executive producer on the reboot, Kel Mitchell, assured Cheddar that the song is here to stay.

"It's been all over the internet, everybody is going crazy. I'm going to say it right here, right now. The song is staying."


There's a good reason that the brains behind the new version of the show are performing a bit of fan service. Mitchell told Cheddar it was fans who were responsible for bringing the show back.

"The fans brought it back. You know, everywhere we go they still talk about it. I get stopped at a red light and people want me to do 'Welcome to Good Burger.' They brought it back man and they're introducing it to their kids. I had a show called Game Shakers that was on Nickelodeon as well," he said. "Depending on who you ask, I have parents that love me from the 90's and then their kids that love me on the current stuff. We just had to bring all that back."

Mitchell will serve as executive producer along with original cast member, Kenan Thompson. Thompson rose to fame with Mitchell on the original series and the sitcom Kenan & Kel, before going on to break the record for the longest-tenured cast member on Saturday Night Live. Mitchell said it was it was easy for the two to get back into the swing of things.

"Its like riding a bike. This is my homie, this is my brother. Every time we get together its hilarity, the creativity is just flowing. we get right back into it."

Mitchell told Cheddar it's been a thrill to watch the new cast take over.

"Its crazy. We were just driving through the New York streets in the Good Burger car. Kenan and I were just sitting there, like this so surreal. That people still enjoy it. These seven new kids looking like how we were back then, with that joy in their eye. Its so awesome," Mitchell said.


The producer added that there will be plenty of opportunity for fans of the original series to see their favorite characters in action.

"We thought about it and we were like, ok we have this built in fan base from the 90's. But then we have this new generation and a new cast that we want to introduce. We're mixing a lot of it together. We're of course going in there and playing with the kids as well. You'll see some Ed, you'll see some Coach Creighton."

A few famous fans even made their own personal request before agreeing to appear on the premiere, such as The Jonas Brothers appearing in the first episode slated for June 15. "They said they wouldn't do it unless they were in a Good Burger sketch. It's awesome. They had a great time!"

Mitchell is hopeful that the new series will give families an opportunity to spend more time together. "We're bringing family television back together. Everybody's not gonna be in different rooms watching television anymore, they're gonna come and watch it for different reasons," he said. "All That is bringing the family back."

For the revival, the show will feature a talented and diverse group of comedians who reflect the spirit and humor of today’s generation of kids. Ranging in age from 12-15, each kid brings their own unique comedic skill to the show, from impressions of today’s biggest celebrities, to original characters inspired by their lives, to physical comedy sketches.


The new cast members of Nickelodeon’s All That are:

· Ryan Alessi – Born and raised in Chicago, Ryan Alessi, 14, began studying improv comedy at age eight with The Second City Improvisational Comedy Troupe. After moving to Los Angeles, he started studying with The Groundlings and developing his own characters and performing various impressions and accents.

· Reece Caddell – A Denver native, Reece Caddell, 12, started acting at the age of five and began performing sketch comedy when she started a YouTube channel with her two older sisters.

· Kate Godfrey – Kate Godfrey, 15, is an actress, singer and dancer from Scottsdale, Ariz. She began her career in her local community theater at the age of nine and was quickly accepted to the Broadway Youth Ensemble where she performed in New York City.

· Gabrielle Green – Gabrielle Green, 14, moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career after studying theatre at BAK Middle School of Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla. Her credits include acting, voiceover work and working as a brand representative.

· Nathan Janak – Originally from Sugar Land, Texas, Nathan Janak, 14, began acting at six years old. In 2016, he participated in a nine-month intensive actor training program and later moved to Los Angeles. Janak has previously been seen as a guest star in Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger.

· Lex Lumpkin – Lex Lumpkin, 13, is an actor, singer, writer, impressionist and pianist from Indianapolis. His acting career began two years ago when he played the role of “Stuart” in the Indianapolis Repertory Theater’s production of Stuart Little.

· Chinguun Sergelen – Raised in Chicago, Chinguun Sergelen, 13, began acting at age nine. He is a Youth Ensemble member at The Second City Training Center Chicago and Laugh Out Loud Theater.

How the All That Reboot Will Bring Together '90s Kids and the Next Generation of Fans

Ready yet? Get set! Because the new All That is coming to a TV near you very soon. Earlier this year, Nickelodeon announced that it was bringing back the '90s sketch series, and now the reboot is almost here! The series, which is executive produced by original stars Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson, premieres on June 15 and will include a whole new set of young actors, including Ryan Alessi, 14, Reece Caddell, 12, Kate Godfrey, 15, Gabrielle Green, 14, Nathan Janak, 14, Lex Lumpkin, 13, and Chinguun Sergelen, 13. While the reboot will include new sketches and celebrity impersonations, there will be a few nods to the original series as well.

When POPSUGAR talked with Mitchell at the All That press junket in NYC, he explained that the reboot will be something both '90s kids and their own kids can watch together. "The parents are going to enjoy it, and the kids are going to enjoy it," he said. "We thought about that. We talked about it and we were like, 'OK, we have to hit both because we have this fan base that we've built over the years. But then we want to introduce the new kids to this new generation.' So we're taking bits and pieces from both." Here are all the ways the reboot will remind you of the original!

1 - You Can Expect a Lot of Cameos From the Original Cast

The show's original stars Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, and Kel Mitchell will appear in the premiere, but you can expect a few more cameos later in the season. "[There's going] to be a lot more cameos," Mitchell confirmed. "We love having the cast involved from the past two coming in."

2 - Your Favourite Sketches Will Be Back

Rest assured that some of the classic sketches that made you laugh as a kid will be back and better than ever. In addition to having Denberg back as Loud Librarian and Mitchell back as Ed from Good Burger, we'll also see Coach Kreeton and a new iteration of "Vital Information For Your Everyday Life," which will be taken over by new cast member Reece Caddell.

3 - There Will Be Tons of Big Musical Guests

The original All That was known for its stellar musical guests, including Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, and the Spice Girls, and the reboot will be no different. Kicking things off for the premiere, the Jonas Brothers will perform their new hit "Sucker."

4 - The Theme Song Will Be the Same

Don't worry, that iconic theme song isn't going anywhere. POPSUGAR can confirm that TLC's version of the song will be in the reboot.

5 - It Will Include a Few Meta References

In addition to revamping old sketches, Mitchell teased that the reboot will "poke fun" at All That spinoffs like Kenan & Kel and The Amanda Show. Here's hoping we get at least one reference to Kel's love for orange soda.

6 - It's Filming in Front of a Live Audience

Though recent Nickelodeon shows have gotten away from using a live audience, Mitchell said they made sure the All That reboot would do it. "It really made me be on my toes as far as comedic timing," he said about his time filming the show. "Being in front of a live studio audience and making people laugh you know immediately like, 'OK, that joke didn't work,' or it did work because the kids will tell you immediately. They're very truthful as far as listening to jokes." While early episodes of the original were taped in Orlando, FL, the reboot will be filmed at Burbank Studios in LA.
