Nickelodeon UK & Spin Master Honour PAWsome Partners at Inaugural PAW Patrol Summit

Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products and Spin Master honour licensees and retail partners.


Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products (VNCP) and Spin Master held their first ever Paw Patrol Summit on Thursday 9th May 2019. Recognising the accomplishments of retail and licensing partners with the UK’s No. 1 preschool property across the year, a total of five awards were presented by Marianne James, Vice President (VP) Commercial Partnerships, Consumer Products and Experiences, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, and Hedley Barnes, General Manager (GM) Northern Europe at Spin Master.

She commented: “We’re excited to be hosting our very first Paw Patrol summit, allowing us to celebrate all things Paw related and most importantly giving us the opportunity to recognise the truly outstanding work from our stakeholders that has helped to create our paw-some success story. We’ve got a host of activity in the pipeline for our beloved pups and look forward to working with our partners.”

Among those recognised was MV Sports, which took home Most Innovative Product for its Dream Den product. Aykroyds TDP won Best Softlines Partner, and Best Activation at Retail went to Home of Paw at Argos, which was delivered in May and October 2018. Argos delivered a fully integrated 360 marketing campaign that drove PAW cross category sales in addition to a full suite of Nick Jr. properties. Primark was awarded for Broadest Range at Retail. Its continued support in delivering pioneering ranges across a huge amount of categories was deemed commendable and ultimately drives significant sales for the brand.

Dairycrest with Cathedral City won Best Hardlines Partner for its healthy snack-sized product for kids as their first foray into licensing. Aykroyds TDP won Best Softlines Partner, a long standing partner with the property, continually committed to innovating in their category.

Now in its sixth year, Paw Patrol has been the No.1 pre-school property since 2016, the No. 1 programme for ratings across Nick Jr. and Milkshake!, and the most visited page on the Nick Jr. site, nickjr.co.uk.

This month sees the 44 minute movie special Mighty Pups hitting cinemas for the first time ever. Distributed by Paramount, Mighty Pups will be in all cinemas nationwide from 17th May. On air, the six week fan event Super Fan Summer will present kids with fun challenges and prizes to win, with VNCP promising the ultimate six-week fan event.

The second UK-based attraction, Nickelodeon Adventure, is launching later this year in partnership with intu Lakeside and Parques Rieundas - with PAW Patrol being a key property - and the Paw Patrol Little Heroes Awards have also returned for a second year.

The consumer awards campaign driven by Spin Master aims to honour little heroes across the country who have overcome adversity, shown outstanding bravery or gone above and beyond for a friend in need. Submissions are open now http://pawawards.co.uk/.

In September, Nick Jr. UK & Ireland is launching it's first ever pop-up dedicated Paw Patrol channel, a testament to the property’s popularity and ability to increase network strength during the back to school months, while a new range of consumer products will hit shelves, including plush, vehicles and a new lookout tower - all Mighty Pups themed to go with the new superhero-themed content on the channel. Looking ahead, 2020 will see Ready Race Rescue themed content roll-out.

In Paw Patrol: Ready Race Rescue, it’s the ADVENTURE BAY 500! The pups have built an awesome race track and are ready to be the pit crew for their race hero, THE WHOOSH! But when the legendary racer is unable to drive in the CHAMPIONSHIP RACE, he calls on his biggest fan-pup MARSHALL to take the wheel and race in his place! Nickelodeon UK Dives into Mental Health for Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week in the U.K., and to encourage viewers to talk openly about their feelings to family, friends and healthcare professionals, Nickelodeon UK has partnered with Mind, one of the biggest mental health charities in England and Wales, and will be talking about mental health with viewers and celebrities in themed Real Talk video segments, which Nick will be posting of their official social media pages on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram all this week.


In Nickelodeon's first Real Talk video, Nickelodeon's The Scoop sits down and talks to Maggie Lindemann about her new song 'Human' which is inspired by her own struggles with mental health. In the interview, Nick asks her what advice she'd give to her younger self on the subject matter.


Let's make 2019 a year of talking openly about your feelings!

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from Monday 13th - Sunday 19th May 2019. The theme this year is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies. Body image issues can affect all of us at any age. During the week the Mental Health Foundation will be publishing new research and campaigning for change. Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946 as the National Association for Mental Health (NAMH), it celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. 'Arthur' Character Mr. Ratburn Comes Out as Being Homosexual, Gets Married in Season 22 Premiere

Here are two things you probably didn’t know: First, the animated children’s series Arthur is still on the air, entering its 22nd season on PBS Kids in the U.S.. Second, Arthur’s teacher — the well-read, well-dressed, well-liked Mr. Ratburn — is a homosexual.


The news comes out in Monday, May 13’s premiere, titled “Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone,” in which Arthur and his pals are shocked to discover that Mr. Ratburn is engaged — mostly because they refuse to accept that their teachers actually have lives outside of school. “When they go home, they sharpen pencils, eat kale and dream up homework assignments,” Buster insists. “They don’t even sleep! They just go into low-power mode and watch documentaries.”

This paranoia only grows when the gang spots Mr. Ratburn having lunch with an uptight woman (voiced by special guest star Jane Lynch, iCarly, Two and a Half Men, Glee), who tells Mr. Ratburn that he’s “too soft” and needs to “toughen up.” They decide that marrying her will make Mr. Ratburn miserable, which will then make his students miserable, so they set off to nip the nuptials in the bud. Little do they realize, the woman in question is actually Mr. Ratburn’s sister, who just wants the best for his big day.


Arthur and his gang of mostly recognizable animal friends show up to the wedding ready to object, but when they see who Mr. Ratburn is actually marrying — not to mention how happy the couple appears — they decide not to sabotage their teacher’s big day, after all. They do, however, make fun of the way Mr. Ratburn and his new husband dance, which is fair.


Mr. Ratburn’s partner doesn’t have any lines in the episode, he simply winks at the children as he walks by them going down the aisle with his third grade teacher husband. From the looks of him, he is an aardvark like the show’s titular hero.

The news that Mr. Ratburn is gay exploded social media, making the term 'Mr. Ratburn' trend on Twitter.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the Arthur-verse has featured a gay character. In 2005, PBS was forced to pull an episode of the Arthur spinoff Postcards from Buster in which Buster visited a family with lesbian mothers. Before it was to air, former education secretary under George W. Bush Margaret Spellings asked PBS to pull the episode for fear that children might be exposed to — gasp! — lesbians.

Arthur creator Marc Brown said he was “disappointed” by PBS’s decision to comply with Spellings’ request.

“What we are trying to do in the series is connect kids with other kids by reflecting their lives,” Brown said. “In some episodes, as in the Vermont one, we are validating children who are seldom validated. We believe that Postcards From Buster does this in a very natural way —and, as always, from the point of view of children."

For what it’s worth, the word “lesbian” wasn’t actually used in the episode, just as Mr. Ratburn doesn’t use the word “gay” in Monday’s Arthur premiere.


Some of you may be wondering why I'm posting about Arthur, as it's not a Nickelodeon show - it did, however, air on Nickelodeon UK (and CBBC) in the mid-nineties!

Arthur is the latest animated series to include a prominent LGBTQ character. In 2016, Nickelodeon made network history with their first-ever portrayal of a same-sex male couple on their animated series The Loud House. The show has also revealed that Lincoln's sister, Luna, and her crush, Sam, are bi-sexual. The series' positive portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters has earned it two GLAAD Media Awards nominations.

The network also featured a younger unmarried female same-sex couple in the 2014 conclusion of its hit animated action series The Legend of Korra, which ended with Korra and Asami, two of the shows female characters, embarking on a romantic relationship, with fans endearingly calling the couple 'Korrasami'. Korra and Asami's relationship continues in comic book sequels to the series, including the upcoming Ruins of the Empire.

Further back in the '90s, Nickelodeon's iconic animated series Hey Arnold!, one of Arnold's teachers, Mr. Simmons, was gay. Craig Bartlett, the creator of Hey Arnold!, has also hinted that Arnold's friend, Eugene Horowitz, was also gay.

Most recently, Nickelodeon's revived Double Darefeatured it's first family with two dads. A major milestone.

These representations are big deal considering that Nickelodeon has millions of viewers around the world, and the network's TV shows and movies featuring LGBTQ+ characters is an important step forward for mainstream visibility and acceptance of same-sex couples among younger viewers.

‘Willkommen bei den Louds’ mit neuen Folgen, coolen Online-Gadgets und einem Gewinnspiel
Lincoln Loud aus ‘Willkommen bei den Louds’ ist eigentlich ein friedlicher Charakter, der am liebsten ganz in Ruhe seine Comics liest und dabei seine laute Familie – Eltern plus zehn (!) nervige Schwestern – ausblendet. Seine Schwestern treiben ihren einzigen Bruder zwar regelmäßig in den Wahnsinn, aber Lincoln hat sie auch unglaublich lieb und ist immer zur Stelle, wenn wieder einmal die gesamte Familie im Chaos zu versinken droht. Bob Bakish, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Viacom, today announced during Viacom's Q2 2019 Viacom Inc Earnings Conference Call, that Nickelodeon, through its studio initiative, has sold the rights to the network's upcoming made-for-TV movies, Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus, to Netflix. Update (5/13) - Netflix has revealed that both Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus will premiere on the platform during summer 2019!



Created by Joe Murray and originally airing from 1993-1996, the animated series Rocko’s Modern Life follows the adventures of an Australian wallaby named Rocko and his two companions, Heffer and Filburt, through their adventures in their home of O-Town. Just like the original ‘90s series, "Static Cling" is hand-drawn special that stars Rocko, a wallaby who emigrated from Australia to the United States and enjoys the simple things in life; Heffer, Rocko’s best friend; Filburt, Rocko’s other best friend; and Ed Bighead and Bev Bighead, Rocko’s neighbors; as well as the other colorful characters.

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling brings the beloved characters back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko has trouble accepting this 21st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko wholeheartedly believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.

The voice actors reprising their famed roles include: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko, Spunky, and Leon; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Heffer Wolfe, Chuck, and Really Really Big Man; Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Filburt Turtle and Maitre D’; Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe, and Mrs. Fathead; Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie, executive producer) as Aunt Gretchen and Dr. Hutchinson; Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Nosey and Joe Murray as Ralph. Additionally, Steve Little (Adventure Time) joins the cast as Cowboy and Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, director) as Pillow Salesman.



Created by Jhonen Vasquez, Invader Zim premiered on March 30, 2001, running for 27 episodes over two seasons on Nickelodeon, winning an Emmy Award and an Annie Award for individual achievement in animation (which went to storyboard artists Kyle Menke and Steve Ressel, respectively). The series chronicles an alien named Zim who arrived on Earth from his home planet of Irk with imperialistic intentions of conquering the planet (in order to gain favor with his Irken home race). Wildly ineffective but hilariously earnest, Zim and his robot companion GIR attempted to blend in and study the human race while simultaneously trying to enslave it. Despite Zim and GIR's subpar disguises, the only humans who realize they are extraterrestrials are school-aged paranormal investigator Dib.

In INVADER ZIM: Enter The Florpus, ZIM discovers his almighty leaders have no intention of coming to Earth and he loses confidence in his own amazingness for the first time in his amazing life, which is the big break his human nemesis Dib has been waiting for. At some point, GIR rides a tiny donkey, and that's all anyone should really care about.

The 2D-animated TV movie, produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank, will see original voice cast members Richard Horvitz (The Angry Beavers) and Rikki Simons return as fan-favorites ZIM and GIR, alongside Andy Berman as Dib Membrane and Melissa Fahn as Gaz Membrane. Additional voice actors reprising their original series roles include: Wally Wingert as Almighty Tallest Red; Kevin McDonald as Almighty Tallest Purple; Rodger Bumpass as Professor Membrane, Dib and Gaz's father; Olivia d'Abo as Tak, ZIM's Irken nemesis; and Paul Greenberg as Poonchy, one of ZIM and Dib's human classmates.



The news follows Netflix acquiring the Nickelodeon animated series Pinky Malinky, which debuted on the SVOD earlier this year. Nickelodeon are also producing two animated movies, inspired by two of the network's hit animated shows, The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a live-action Avatar The Last Airbender series for the streamer.

MANILA, Philippines — It’s going to be a summer to remember for kids as SM Supermalls partners with Nickelodeon for a bigger, more exciting Everyday is Playday Year 3!


Launched on Saturday 30th March 2019 at The Block Atrium in SM City North EDSA, the Nickelodeon x SM Global Partnership brings a more playful place in SM malls through a series of fun tech activations, character meet-and-greet events, and more!

“Everyday is Playday has always been a place of joy and productivity for kids and kids-at-heart. In collaboration with Nickelodeon, everyone can indulge in a series of fun and interactive games and activities to create family fun moments this summer,” said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing.

The kick-off featured the launch of TheRise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus character meet-and-greets with SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, PAW Patrol’s Sky, Chase, and Marshall, and Shimmer and Shine!


Kids visited fun booths, including a slime photo booth for a memorable experience and IG-worthy photos.

It also had some fun and games for the kids like dance-offs, “SpongeBob Says…” and the classic game bring me! and after that ended with an epic sliming onstage.

Fans also checked out installations where they sang and dance Jojo Siwa-style, rode with their favorite Paw Patrol character, beat the Ninja Turtles in an obstacle maze battle, and even made new friends at the giant genie play area!

It's SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) is teaming up with the Brazilian fast food chain Bob's to launch a exclusive line of Bob Esponja collectible glasses!


Forming part of Bob's Fun&Art campaign, fans of Bob Esponja will be able to collect all four different glasses featuring designs inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved animated series in all of the chain's stores between Wednesday 15th May 2019 and Wednesday 19th June 2019.

Fans can collect the Bob Esponja cups by purchasing a Bob's Fun&Art combo meal, or by purchasing them separately for R$ 11,50 each.

"The partnership with Nickelodeon celebrates the twentieth anniversary of this charismatic character who has become a worldwide success. SpongeBob's collectible cups are exclusive to Bob's and will please our consumers, who are also fans of this animated show," says Raquel Paternesi, Bob's marketing director.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is continuing to expand its location-based experiences business across Europe at theme parks and family entertainment centers.


VIMN is adding a PAW Patrol-themed zone (pictured) in Nickland at Movie Park in Germany called Adventure Bay that’s slated to open in May 2019. Adventure Bay is set to open in May 2019 and will span 1,800 square meters, and will include an off-road convoy ride, a wild boat ride, a children’s playground and photo opportunities with PAW Patrol characters among its attractions.

The announcement of Nickland’s expansion at Germany’s Movie Park follows hot on the heels of the opening of Nickelodeon Adventure in Madrid at Madrid Xanadú, as part of VIMN’s partnership with Parques Reunidos. The Nickelodeon-branded zone at the mall entertainment center in Spain features Nickelodeon intellectual properties (IP) such as PAW Patrol brand in addition to SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Rugrats, The Fairly OddParents and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the opening of a PAW Patrol Adventure Bay attraction at Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America!

Additionally, VIMN Asia announced in July 2018 that it would partner with Mall of China developers Jiayuan Group, China Creation Group and Triple Five Group to co-develop Nickelodeon’s first indoor theme park in Asia. Slated to open its doors in the Mall of China complex in Chongqing in December 2020, the entertainment center will be Nick’s largest indoor theme park at nearly seven acres.

Viacom’s global location-based brand extension business includes hotels and resorts, theme parks, live shows, exhibitions, 4D films, cruises and family entertainment centers.

Viacom's partnership with Parques Reunidos to open Nickelodeon-branded indoor family entertainment centres in shopping centers around Europe has also seen the opening of Nickelodeon Adventure Murcia in Merlin Properties' Thader Shopping Center in Murcia, Spain in December 2017. Under the agreement, VIMN and Parques Reunidos will also open a Nickelodeon-branded family entertainment centre in intu Lakeside in the UK, set to open in 2019, and a Nickelodeon Family Entertainment Center in Dolce Vita Tejo in Lisbon, Portugal.

PAW Patrol themed area to open at Nickland in Movie Park Germany

New themed world “Adventure Bay” coming in 2019 with attractions inspired by the well-known puppy rescue team

(Bottrop-Kirchhellen, 8 January 2019) Families can already start looking forward to the new season at Movie Park Germany: In 2019, Germany's largest film and amusement park will dedicate a whole new area in Europe's largest Nickland to the puppy rescue team from the popular Nickelodeon PAW Patrol TV series. With new attractions, fresh design details and exciting interactive elements, "Adventure Bay" will be brought to life and made accessible to all fans of the series. The new PAW Patrol area is expected to open in spring 2019.

“In addition to our rapid rollercoasters and spectacular shows, it’s the attractions for the whole family that make Movie Park Germany what it is. The PAW Patrol animated series is particularly popular among our younger visitors. The new themed world at Movie Park Germany, which again this year has been awarded the gold label (no. 1 in amusement parks category) by Welt am Sonntag and Service Value as a “family-friendly enterprise”, will be integrated directly into the Nickland between the snacks and drinks outlet and the entrance to the attraction “Excalibur – Secrets of the Dark Forest” on a site measuring 1,800 m². Design elements and the storyline have been developed by the Movie Park Germany project team under Wiebe Damstra in close cooperation with Nickelodeon Experience Design in Orlando and the Dutch design experts from the Leisure Expert Group. The Spanish company Rocas & Design, previously commissioned with “Lost Temple”, is responsible for designing and implementing the various thematic aspects of the new area.

New exciting attraction for the whole family

Riding through the streets of "Adventure Bay" with the beloved puppy troupe, parents and kids alike can look forward to a brand-new family attraction in the new themed area. On the new “PAW Patrol Adventure Tour”, a convoy ride created by Zamperla, visitors will experience an exciting off-road journey with their four-legged heroes. The six vehicles are inspired directly by the series, i.a. Marshall’s fire engine and Rubble’s bulldozer, and provide enough space for up to four people to take the whole family along on an exciting adventure.

A totally new children's playground with interactive beach-style elements will be dedicated to Zuma, the brown labrador, and Rubble, the cheeky bulldog. Children can climb, swing and slide to their heart’s content in this area. The popular family attraction “Swiper‘s Sweeper” has also been completely revamped to become “Zuma’s Zoomer” – a wild hovercraft trip on the beach of “Adventure Bay”.

Film-like adventure for children: experiencing PAW Patrol at a meet & greet

Children and families can take advantage of numerous photo points and meet & greet opportunities to experience their animal heroes right up close. “Demand for interaction has been very high in recent years. Our visitors will now get the chance to really immerse themselves in the world of PAW Patrol,” explains General Manager Thorsten Backhaus. One particular highlight guests can look forward to is the iconic command center of the canine crew on a large scale: An exclusive photo point and meet & greet area will be set up at the foot of the 15-meter high tower. On top of that, Movie Park Germany will present all of the extraordinary emergency vehicles used by the TV heroes as realistic photo points, giving kids the chance to climb aboard just like their furry friends – for example, they can take a ride on Rocky’s transporter or on Chase’s police car.

Young and young-at-heart fans of the puppies can also take advantage of the new family offers at Movie Park Germany. For example, PAW Patrol-themed kids’ birthdays can be booked from the 2019 season. Einmal mit der beliebten Welpen-Truppe durch die Straßen von „Adventure Bay“ jagen: Im neuen Themenbereich dürfen sich Eltern und Kinder auf eine brandneue Familienattraktion freuen. Auf der neuen „PAW Patrol Adventure Tour“, einem Convoy Ride der Firma Zamperla, erleben sie eine rasante Off-Road-Fahrt mit ihren Helden auf vier Pfoten. Die sechs passend zur Serie gestalteten Fahrzeuge, u.a. Marshalls Feuerwehr-Truck und Rubbles Bulldozer, bieten jeweils bis zu vier Personen Platz und nehmen die ganze Familie mit auf eine turbulente Fahrt.

Ein völlig neuer Kinderspielplatz mit interaktiven Elementen im Beach-Style wird Zuma, dem braunen Labrador, und der frechen Bulldogge Rubble gewidmet sein. Hier können Kinder nach Herzenslust klettern, schaukeln und rutschen. Die beliebte Familienattraktion „Swiper‘s Sweeper“ erhält ebenfalls ein komplett neues Design und wird zu „Zuma’s Zoomer“ umthematisiert – einer wilden Luftkissen-Bootsfahrt am Strand von „Adventure Bay“.

Filmreifes Erlebnis für Kinder: PAW Patrol erleben beim Meet & Greet

Um ihre tierischen Helden aus nächster Nähe zu erleben, können Kinder und Familien auf zahlreiche Fotopoints sowie Meet & Greet-Möglichkeiten zurückgreifen. „Die Nachfrage war bereits in den vergangenen Jahren sehr groß. Unsere Besucher sollen nun die Möglichkeit erhalten, noch näher in die Welt von PAW Patrol einzutauchen“, sagt Geschäftsführer Thorsten Backhaus. Als besonderes Highlight erwartet die Gäste die ikonische Kommandozentrale der Hundetruppe und das in großem Ausmaß: Im Fuß des 15 Meter hohen Turms wird ein exklusiver Fotopoint und eine Meet & Greet-Area errichtet. Leisure Expert Group is proud to announce that it has been involved with the creation of Movie Park Germany’s latest addition to their park: ‘PAW Patrol – Adventure Bay’.

Collaboration between Movie Park Germany, Nickelodeon Experience Design and Leisure Expert Group

‘Adventure Bay’ will be the biggest expansion to the Nickland area since it has opened more than 10 years ago and is inspired by the popular Nickelodeon series ‘PAW Patrol’. Together with the talented projectteam of Movie Park Germany and Nickelodeon Experience Design, Leisure Expert Group has created the concepts and all designs for the theming and rides inside this new area.

“It was a pleasure to be working with the Movie Park team, under supervision of Wiebe Damstra, and the creative team of Nickelodeon Experience Design”, Max Reims, Client Expert at Leisure Expert Group mentions. “PAW Patrol is such a great, colorful and friendly IP for the entire family to enjoy and it has been a joy for our team to work on this project. Meet the PAWps

In the new area you will be able to meet the pups from PAW Patrol at a brand new dedicated photo opportunity at the bottom of the 15 meter high command tower, which will be the visible all throughout ‘Adventure Bay’. Next to the new meet and greet, guest can also enjoy the rethemed ‘Zooma’s Zoomer’ and a newly installed Convoy ride by Italian manufacturer Zamperla.

This exciting new development marks the continuation of successful collaborations between Movie Park Germany and Leisure Expert Group.

In 2016, Leisure Expert Group worked closely together with the park and Fox to create The Walking Dead®: Break Out, a haunted house walkthrough attraction that is open year-round.

In 2018, Leisure Expert Group was responsible for the full design package for the retheming of Excalibur: Secrets of the Dark Forest. This resulted in the new experience being rewarded a European Star Award for best Water ride in Europe.

We are proud to have been chosen as design partner for a licensed experience by Movie Park Germany once again and we can’t wait to see our designs come to life when the area opens to the public during the 2019 season.

Im Movie Park Germany eröffnet 2019 die PAW Patrol-Themenwelt „Adventure Bay“ mitsamt neuen Attraktionen für Kinder. Inzwischen haben auf der Baustelle im Park die ersten Erdarbeiten begonnen.

Der Movie Park Germany erweitert seinen vor allem bei Familien mit Kindern beliebten Themenbereich „Nickland“ im Frühjahr 2019 um eine neue Themenwelt zur Fernsehserie PAW Patrol (wir berichteten). Die sogenannte „Adventure Bay“ soll Besuchern ermöglichen, mit neuen Attraktionen und interaktiven Elementen in die Welt der Nickelodeon-Serie einzutauchen. Auf der Baustelle am Rand des Freizeitparks in Bottrop haben inzwischen die ersten Arbeiten für die Themenwelt begonnen.

Schon kurz nach Saisonende begann der Freizeitpark damit, bereits bestehende Fahrgeschäfte im für die „Adventure Bay“ vorgesehenen Bereich zu demontieren. Dazu zählen die Kinder-Karussells „Diego’s Rescue Rider“ und „Blue’s Skidoo“, der Kinder-Freifallturm „Wonder Pets Flyboat“ und das familienfreundliche Fahrgeschäft „Swiper’s Sweeper, das ab 2019 in anderem Gewand Teil der neuen Themenwelt sein wird.

Zudem wurde der im Bereich befindliche Spielplatz abgerissen sowie die Sitzflächen vor dem Snacks and Drinks-Outlet vorläufig entfernt, um Platz auf der Baustelle zu schaffen. Auf dieser sind mittlerweile Bagger damit beschäftigt, auf der Fläche des ehemaligen Spielplatzes vorbereitende Erdarbeiten zu absolvieren. Auch wurden schon Markierungen gesetzt.

Die große Neuheit in der Themenwelt wird die „PAW Patrol Adventure Tour“ sein, bei der Gäste in sechs passend zur Serie gestalteten Fahrzeugen eine rasante Off-Road-Fahrt mit ihren Helden auf vier Pfoten erleben. Die beliebte Familien-Attraktion „Swiper‘s Sweeper“ erhält ebenfalls ein komplett neues Design und wird zu „Zuma’s Zoomer“ umthematisiert.

Auch erwartet Gäste in der „Adventure Bay“ die ikonische Kommandozentrale der Hundetruppe – ein 15 Meter hoher Turm, in dem ein Fotopoint und eine Meet & Greet-Area eingerichtet werden. Darüber hinaus präsentiert der Movie Park Germany in der neuen Themenwelt alle Einsatzfahrzeuge der TV-Helden – zum Beispiel das Polizeifahrzeug von Chase.

Parkerlebnis.de berichtete bereits im Sommer letzten Jahres, dass der Freizeitpark 2019 einen thematischen Bereich aufwerten will. Ein genaues Eröffnungsdatum ist noch unbekannt.

Nickelodeon Launches 'NickHits', a New SVOD for Older Kids

As part of Viacom's First Quarter 2019 Results article on viacom.com/news, Viacom has revealed that Nickelodeon has launched a new Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) service named Nick Hits on Amazon channels which is aimed towards older kids!


Update (3/25): Apple today announced that they'll be adding Nick Hits to their revamped Apple TV app in May 2019! Additionally, the new Apple TV app with continue to support Nickelodeon's NOGGIN preschool app!

Update (5/2): The fourth beta of Apple's iOS 12.3 has recently been released to developers, and its TV app is the most talked about feature of the update. Acting as an aggregating application for hundreds of different TV channels, the feature provides an easier way to watch and subscribe to different platforms offering varying shows.

Update (5/14): Just seven weeks after rolling out iOS 12.2, Apple has released iOS 12.3. The biggest update this time around is a major refresh of the TV app ahead of the Apple TV+ streaming service debuting later this year.

The previous version of the iOS 12.3 was only limited to subscriptions on Starz, Smithsonian, Showtime and Tastemade. Now, its options have been vastly expanded to include Viacom's Nickelodeon, MTV Hits and Comedy Central Now, as well as CBS All Access, HBO, and more!

The news follows Viacom adding Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels to Pluto TV and FuboTV in recent days.


In the article, Viacom talks about its plan to acquire Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service in U.S., and how the media company hopes that the platform will act as a powerful marketing engine for Viacom’s SVOD products - Noggin, Comedy Central Now, and the latest, Nick Hits.

However, no other information about what kind of SVOD service Nick Hits could be. The name could indicate it could be dedicated to the most loved Nickelodeon content from the 1990’s and beyond. Nickelodeon already has a NickSplat channel on VRV featuring a selection of retro Nick programming, however, this could be the next step for the NickSplat brand.


The name Nick Hits could also refer to a Nickelodeon-branded SVOD music channel, similar to Nickelodeon's Nick Music linear channel.

There is a third option, however, which could be that Nick Hits was a typo and the publisher meant to type NickSplat.

Nickelodeon has already established the Nick Hits brand name internationally, as a programming block airing older Nickelodeon programming on Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) between July 4, 2009 and ended on April 4, 2010, and as a Nickelodeon music channel in the Netherlands (Nederland) and Flanders between 2007-2017 (it rebranded as Nick Music in 2017).

With the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles's 35th celebration and the Dark Knight’s 80th anniversary both coinciding this year, there’s no better time to be Turtle or Bat fan. Not only do we get an epic final installment of the TMNT/Batman crossover from James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II (out this week!) but a Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated feature is on the way. Fans who attended WonderCon were lucky enough to see the entire film early.

Tim Conway, Voice of Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob SquarePants, Passes Away Aged 85

Tim Conway, the actor known to millions of fans around the world as the voice of Barnacle Boy on Nickelodeon's animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, has died at the age of 85.


He passed away at 8:45 a.m. PDT in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, his rep Howard Bragman confirmed to PEOPLE.

The news follows Ernest Borgnine, who provided the voice of Mermaid Man, who Barnacle Boy is the sidekick of, passing away in 2012. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are Batman and Robin-esque elderly superheroes, and SpongeBob's heroes.


Prior to his death, he suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) and had no signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Conway is survived by his wife of 35 years, his stepdaughter, his six biological children and two granddaughters. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would like donations to be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The beloved actor is also known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show, winning viewers over with characters like the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball, whose accent he has said was inspired by his Romanian mother. He was known to ad-lib his sketches — even surprising his scene partners — and won a Golden Globe Award for the series in 1976, along with Emmys in 1973, 1977 and 1978.

At a 2013 event promoting his memoir, What’s So Funny? My Hilarious Life, Burnett, now 86, painted her collaborator as an on-set prankster.

“Tim’s goal in life was to destroy [costar] Harvey Korman,” she told the crowd, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Harvey wet his pants,” Conway bragged.

It’s an anecdote he also recalled in a 2013 interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“Harvey never saw what I was going to do until he was actually doing the sketch,” he said. “As a matter of fact in the dentist sketch you can actually see Harvey wet his pants from laughing.”

Before making his mark in Hollywood, Conway studied TV and radio at Bowling State University and enlisted in the Army, where is goofiness already shone through. In the L.A. Times interview, he remembered misplacing his rifle before a 4 a.m. drill.

“I looked in the garbage and there was this long neon tube,” he remembered. “So I took that. As the lieutenant came around the corner. I said, ‘Halt.’ I am pointing this bulb at him and he said ‘What is that?’ I said, ‘It’s a light bulb and if you come any closer, I’ll turn it on.’ He had very little sense of humor. I spent an extra two weeks [in the service] painting rocks in Seattle.”

After his military service, he worked at a local station in Cleveland.

“I had no professional training. I had a sense of humor and had been in front of a microphone,” Conway said of his show business beginnings on an episode of The Interviews: An Oral History of Television in 2004.

He appeared as a guest star on The Carol Burnett Show for eight seasons before becoming a regular in 1975.

“They used to do 33 shows a year on Burnett,” he told the L.A. Times. “She said why don’t you just be a regular on the show? I said I will tell you what. I will do 32 shows and leave one week open at the end, so I can guest on somebody’s show. I always guested on her show, but I did have the right to go somewhere else. My job on every show was to break everybody up.”

His own sitcom, The Tim Conway Show, had lasted one season in 1970. His variety show of the same name aired from 1980-81.

Conway also starred on McHale’s Navy and even made a special appearance on the second season of 30 Rock, for which he received an Emmy.

Conway’s death comes after his daughter Kelly and wife Charlene had been fighting over his care.

Kelly filed court documents asking to be appointed conservator of her father in order to be in charge of his medical treatments in in August 2018. She alleged that Charlene was “planning to move him out of the excellent skilled nursing facility he is currently at” and place him into a lesser quality home. She claimed her father could not “properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, and clothing” and is “almost entirely unresponsive.”

Days later, Kelly sought a temporary restraining order to stop the move. But in March, Charlene was appointed conservator of her husband.

Before his wedding to Charlene in 1984, Conway was married to Mary Anne Dalton from 1961-78. Together they share seven children: sons Jaime, Tim Jr., Pat, Corey and Shawn and daughter Jackie and Kelly.

Nickelodeon USA has announced the exciting news in a new trailer that the network will premiere LEGO City Adventures, a brand-new high-stakes CG-animated comedy that depicts the funny, smart, and dynamic slices of life within the sprawling and diverse LEGO CITY community, during summer 2019!

Created and produced by LEGO Group, LEGO City Adventures, the series follows the intertwining paths of the city's everyday heroes as they work together to stop a mysterious master criminal who begins to wreak havoc on their town.


Nickelodeon announced plans to air LEGO City Adventures (originally titled LEGO® CITY) as part of Nickelodeon's 2019 Upfront, and forms part of the network's slate of new acquired programming which will ensure Nick is the top destination for everything kids want.

Pro-Wrestler and 'Nacho Libre' Star Silver King Passes Away, Aged 51

Nacho Libre star and pro wrestler Silver King has died after collapsing during a bout at London’s Roundhouse in Camden. He was 51.


Silver King (real name Cesar Barron), who was a star in his native Mexico and also appeared as the villain Ramses in Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies 2005 movie Nacho Libre alongside actor Jack Black, was performing at the Roundhouse in Camden in London, UK when he reportedly fell to the canvas. Some reports suggest he may have suffered a heart attack.

The wrestler was in the middle of a match at the Greatest Show of Lucha Libre event on Saturday (May 11) when the tragedy struck. Footage online shows the referee and several other men rushing to his aid after he collapsed.

The 51-year-old grew up in a Mexican wrestling family, his father was a popular Lucha Libre fighter. Aside from his role in Nacho Libre, Silver King would go on to find worldwide success, appearing in the USA’s World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1997 to 2000.

Tributes have begun to pour in, with Jack Black sharing a photograph of the wrestler on the set of Nacho Libre, accompanied with the caption: “César González…vaya con dios, hermano,” which translated reads: “Go with God, brother.”

El Hijo del Santo, aka Jorge Rodriguez, tweeting in his native tongue, said he felt “deep regret” at the death of his “partner in so many battles.”


The WWE tweeted that they were “saddened to learn that Lucha Libre legend and former WCW star Silver King has passed away at age 51.”

In Nacho Libre, Ramses was considered to the be greatest wrestler in town, and he went head to head with Black’s character whose wrestler name was Nacho. While Ramses didn’t really speak for much of the film, the movie had great ways of writing jokes around the character. It also kind of helps that Ramses was being played by a real-life luchador, which added to his mystique in the film.

Circuito, inédito no Brasil, é inspirado no famoso slime da Nickelodeon e promete muita diversão até 28 de abril. A entrada é gratuita.

O Shopping Market Place, em São Paulo, recebe o “Slime é Nick Experience” do Brasil.


O espaço, cheio de atividades divertidas, lúdicas e interativas, é dividido em um circuito com quatro módulos, que foi realizado para receber crianças de 05 a 13 anos de idade.

Alinhada com a febre que atingiu a criançada, a Nickelodeon, como criadora da “meleca verde”, convida os pequenos a personalizarem seu próprio slime de forma única.


Desenvolvido pela agência Outra Praia, o circuito é formado por quatro etapas: ‘Elásticos Slime’, ‘LED Slime’, ‘Piscina de Slime’ e ‘Slime Lab’.

Localizada no piso térreo, Praça de Eventos, as crianças irão se divertir em uma área temática que traz ao shopping uma das experiências mais divertidas da Nick.


Para participar, há a necessidade de retirar uma senha que é limitada e entregue por ordem de chegada e pode se esgotar ao longo do dia, antes do encerramento das atividades.

O Circuito

Elásticos Slime: Nessa etapa, as crianças entram em um espaço cheio de elásticos verdes posicionados como se fossem um labirinto. O objetivo é conseguir alcançar a saída para conhecer o segundo ambiente.

LED Slime: Uma sala cheia de LED verde irá simular o slime escorrendo nas paredes. Por meio de espelhos, a sensação visual é de que as crianças estão rodeadas de “meleca verde”.

Piscina Slime: Esta etapa conta com uma piscina de slime, onde as crianças podem colocar a mão, puxar e fazer fotos divertidas.

Slime LAB: Nesse ambiente, as crianças podem criar e personalizar (com glitter, lantejoulas e muito mais) seus próprios potinhos de slime.

Taking place once again at the beach in Almere on Sunday 25th August 2019 between 10:00 - 19:00 uur, Nickelodeon Familie Festival is a family-centric festival specially designed for kids aged 6-12 years and their parents. The entire day will feature live performances from many well-known Dutch artists, meet and greets with popular YouTube stars & vloggers as well as Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. heroes, including SpongeBob SquarePants and the pups from PAW Patrol, plus lots of activities inspired by hit Nickelodeon shows. NICKELODEON FAMILIE FESTIVAL PROGRAMMEERT POPULAIRSTE ARTIESTEN VAN NEDERLAND

De eerste headliners van het Nickelodeon Familie Festival zijn bekend! Niemand minder dan Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Kalvijn en STUK zullen spetterende live optredens verzorgen tijdens de tweede editie van het grootste familie festival van Nederland. Ook Stefania, 4LIFE en Dirk Scheele zullen optreden tijdens deze dag vol fun. Nickelodeon-presentatrice Nienke van Dijk en multitalent Kaj van der Voort presenteren de dag. Het Almeerderstrand in Almere zal dus op zondag 25 augustus veranderen in enorm festijn. Jong en oud kan met elkaar genieten van deze populaire artiesten, ‘Meet & Greets’ met favoriete YouTubers, Nickelodeon en Nick Jr.-helden en de bezoekers kunnen meedoen aan verschillende buiten activiteiten.

Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Kalvijn, die dit jaar in het kader van zijn winst bij de KCA’s werd geslimed door Nickelodeon, en STUK staan op de mainstage van dit evenement. Naast deze grote namen kunnen de festivalbezoekers de hele dag door de populairste Nickelodeon en Nick Jr.-helden ontmoeten tijdens verschillende ‘Meet & Greets’, waaronder Stefania, Nickelodeon-presentator Wout Verstappen, de castleden van De Ludwigs, Chase, Marshall en Skye van de hitserie PAW Patrol, Spongebob Squarepants, Shimmer & Shine, Penny & Rod van de populaire Nick Jr.-serie Top Wing en Peppa Pig. Voor de allerkleinsten is Nick Jr. ambassadrice Kim Kötter aanwezig en zal kinderheld Dirk Scheele een muzikaal optreden verzorgen. Verder kunnen de kinderen zich vermaken tijdens diverse (speel)activiteiten. Kortom, iedereen kan genieten van toffe muziekoptredens en spelen tot het einde van de dag.

Na het succes van vorig jaar keert het grootste familie festival van Nederland, het Nickelodeon Familie Festival op 25 augustus terug naar het Almeerderstrand in Almere. Meer dan 12.000 kinderen en volwassenen beleefden een dag vol familieplezier.

Nickelodeon Familie Festival krijgt tweede editie

Het Nickelodeon Familie Festival krijgt deze zomer in Almere een tweede editie. Het festival werd vorig jaar voor het eerst gehouden, op het Almeerderstrand.

Het festival is voor kinderen van 6 tot 12 jaar en hun ouders. Vorig jaar kwamen er 12.000 bezoekers op af. Het feest staat in het teken van optredens van Nederlandse artiesten en activiteiten geïnspireerd op de programma’s van kinderzender Nickelodeon. Er zijn ook meet en greets met bekende tekenfilmfiguren.

Het festival vindt plaats op zondag 25 augustus. De presentatie ligt in hadden van Nickelodeon-presentatrice Nienke van Dijk en zanger Kaj van der Voort.

Het Nickelodeon Familie Festival keert deze zomer terug voor een tweede editie. Jong en oud kan op 25 augustus weer terecht op het strand van Almere, heeft de kinderzender dinsdag bekendgemaakt.

Net als de eerste editie wordt het festival gepresenteerd door Nickelodeon-presentatrice Nienke van Dijk en Kaj van der Voort. Welke artiesten het podium beklimmen en wat er verder precies op het programma staat, wordt later onthuld. Wel komen er net als vorig jaar optredens van Nederlandse acts, zijn er meet & greets met bekende YouTubers en Nickelodeon-sterren, worden er workshops georganiseerd en zijn er verschillende buitenspeelactiviteiten.

De kaartverkoop van de Early Bird-kaartjes is dinsdag gestart. De eerste editie van het Nickelodeon Familie Festival trok vorig jaar meer dan 12.000 kinderen en volwassenen. Artiesten als Nielson, Kraantje Pappie en Ronnie Flex traden op.

In de mediaoorlog tussen RTL en Talpa weet de derde grote commerciële zendergroep onder jongeren en jongvolwassenen Viacom Benelux zich te onderscheiden in deze lastig te bereiken doelgroep. Een uitgekiende benadering via digitale platformen en samenwerking in bijvoorbeeld het delen van formats, RTL’s Videoland en in reclameverkoop lijken het toverwoord voor verdere groei van Viacom.

Maurice Hols vertelt wat er volgens hem goed is aan zijn zenders. De ene keer in een relax stand met veel enthousiasme, dan weer scherp en strijdend. Hij is er geenszins van overtuigd dat hij zich kan permitteren te licht te denken over de huidige mediaverhoudingen en hoe hij met zijn zendergroep de gewenste doelgroep jongvolwassenen het beste kan bereiken. Hols: „Het is elke dag keihard werken aan ons bestaansrecht om relevant te blijven. De markt is klein, daarom pleiten we ook voor samenwerking. Met voorbeeld RTL dat BrandDeli overgenomen heeft. Zij verkopen onze reclamezendtijd. Maar we doen ook dingen samen via Videoland. Door samenwerking hou je het medialandschap gezond en kun je de adverteerder ook beter bedienen.”

Hols is Executive Vice President en General Manager bij Viacom Benelux. Hij is meer dan vijftien jaar betrokken bij het mediabedrijf en sinds een paar jaar is hij eindverantwoordelijk voor het zenderportfolio MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike, Nick Jr. en Comedy Central. Het afgelopen kwartaal had Viacom in Nederland een gemiddeld marktaandeel van 12,2 procent in de jongvolwassenen doelgroep van 18-34 jaar.

Inhoud
Waar bijvoorbeeld de publieke omroep steeds meer moeite heeft om lineair en digitaal deze groep te bereiken, doet Viacom het goed. Hols: „We benaderen doelgroepen altijd 360 graden. Dat betekent dat we eerst nadenken over een goed format en samen de inhoud bepalen. Daarna kijken we waar het format het beste past en hoe we deze content kunnen delen op al onze beschikbare sociale, digitale en lineaire kanalen. Soms begint een format digitaal zoals met Ex on the Beach, Double Dutch, Inpakken met…. Daarna kan het ook een ’long format’ vervolg krijgen zoals op MTV.”

The Roast
Het gaat goed met Viacom. 2018 werd zelfs het beste jaar ooit genoemd, zowel in financiële zin als in het trekken van veel kijkers naar verschillende platformen van Viacom. Dit jaar moet een nog beter jaar worden. De handtekening is net gezet voor een nieuwe The Roast eind dit jaar op Comedy Central. Het format is op dit moment het meest succesvolle van Viacom Benelux. Opnieuw zal er een Bekende Nederlander een ’Roast’ ondergaan. Wie de opvolger is van Johnny de Mol, Gorden of Giel Beelen blijft nog geheim.

Buitenlandse formats in een lokaal jasje gieten, zoals met The Roast op Comedy Central of Ex on the Beach op MTV, zijn een succes en dit krijgt een vervolg. „Er komt meer lokaal product op onze zenders”, zegt Hols erover. „In de digitale arena is het belangrijk dat je relevant bent. Wij benaderen onze doelgroepen niet alleen vanuit lineair. We zoeken waar onze doelgroep zit en ’engagen’ hen bijvoorbeeld via YouTube of Instagram. We vertellen daar een verhaal, soms begint het daar en proberen ze ook te bewegen het long format via televisie te bekijken. We bereiken ze niet alleen digitaal of via social, maar ook dus via televisie. Daarmee realiseren we groei en zijn we relevant voor bijvoorbeeld onze distributiepartners zoals VodafoneZiggo.” Het houden van evenementen bij formats wordt ook een belangrijk middel in de mix van het bereiken van Viacom-doelgroepen. „Kijk naar het jaarlijkse Nickelodeon Familie Festival in Almere. Daar kwamen vorig jaar 12.000 mensen op af. Wij zijn commercieel marktleider in het binden van de kids-doelgroep. Events zijn heel belangrijk voor betrokkenheid bij onze merken en bieden adverteerders naast ons media-platform ook experimentele mogelijkheden.

Hols begrijpt de angst van veel kleinere digitale zenders als OutTv of OranjeTV die vrezen voor hun voortbestaan nu ze minder inkomsten krijgen uit distributievergoedingen van de kabelaars. Hij heeft er ook mee te maken. „Maar je moet je altijd afvragen of je toegevoegde waarde hebt. Kijken er genoeg kijkers naar je? Wij bereiken heel veel jongvolwassenen via ons portfolio. Dat is een traditioneel lastig te bereiken doelgroep via lineaire kanalen en daarmee bieden wij meerwaarde. Wij hebben een gezamenlijke verantwoordelijkheid om deze kijkers erbij te houden. Maar over bedragen ga ik het niet hebben.”

NLZIET
Een eigen videoplatform opzetten ziet Hols niet zitten. Ook gaat hij zich niet aansluiten bij het platform NLZIET waar content van de NPO, Talpa en RTL te zien is. Hij ziet wel een vorm van samenwerken bij het delen van content of het bedenken van nieuwe formats die op verschillende platformen te zien kunnen zijn. „Wil je zo’n eigen videoplatform goed neerzetten dan heb je veel goede content nodig, breed maar ook in niche. Maar je moet ook veel marketing power hebben en een product dat mensen gewend zijn te gebruiken. Ik zie veel meer in samenwerking met bestaande platformen. Met RTL zijn we commercieel al close. Zij verkopen onze reclamezendtijd. En een aantal van onze series is al te zien op Videoland. Om lokaal te kunnen concurreren met internationale video on demand (VOD) aanbieders, geloof ik veel meer in samenwerking. Dat kan ook verder gaan in het samen uitrollen van formats. Het is uiteindelijk belangrijk hoe de kijker binnenkomt en deze als ’fan’ zo goed mogelijk kunnen bedienen. Er zijn waar de kijker al is.”
