"Puffin Rock" Series Two Goes Into Production Ahead Of Shows UK Launch On Nick Jr.

The licensing industry news website Licensing.biz is reporting the exciting news that production has begun on a second series of "Puffin Rock", a brand-new animated preschool series co-produced by Oscar nominated Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, global publisher Penguin Random House Children's, and Northern Irish children's media company Dog Ears, ahead of the shows UK debut on Nick Jr. UK and Ireland on Monday 18th May 2015!


"Puffin Rock", which launched on RTÉjr on Monday 12th January 2015, follows the funny adventures of a family of puffins who live on an Irish island and features natural history facts, pre-school learning, relationship dynamics and humour. The show stars 11 year old Kate McCafferty from Derry as the voice of Oona. McCafferty also sings the theme song for the series.

Throughout the series, Oona, and Baba explore the island – making friends and hunting for food while trying to stay safe. In the premiere episode "Puffin Practice," Oona tries to teach Baba how to be a grown-up puffling, but Baba doesn't take the game seriously. Oona soon realises that she was forgetting the most important thing - to have fun being a puffling.

"As the leading children's publisher, we're on the lookout for new ways of telling stories," said Francesca Dow, managing director, Penguin Random House Children's.

"Puffin Rock is wonderful storytelling and takes us beyond the book into animation, which we are thrilled to see on Nick Jr. for the first time in the UK, entertaining the children we've had in our heads since the first day of our strong partnership with Dog Ears and Cartoon Saloon."

Tim Patterson, VP, director of programming, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland added: "Cartoon Saloon, Penguin and Dog Ears have created a beautiful animation with storylines that I am sure will delight and engage Nick Jr. audiences.

"Puffin Rock is a welcome arrival to the Nick Jr. schedule and I cannot wait to see how families react to the series."

Chris O'Dowd ("Moone Boy", "The IT Crowd", "Bridesmaids"), the narrator for the new show, said: “I'm thrilled that Puffin Rock will be launching on Nick Jr. in the UK. I love creatures of the sky and sea and thought it was time to tell pre-schoolers about them, and "Puffin Rock" does just that.

"I found the whole experience of working on Puffin Rock to be very relaxing - there is something truly beautiful about puffins down by the water. When I'd go into the studio to voice my narration it chilled me out immediately and sorted out my whole day. I love anything to do with Puffins, I always have."

"Puffin Rock" is produced with the support of Northern Ireland Screen, Irish Film Board and Media European Fund.

To celebrate the UK premiere of "Puffin Rock", NickJr.co.uk has launched the channels official "Puffin Rock" show website, where parents and children can discover more about "Puffin Rock", as well as watch clips and complete fun creative activities.

Hornby Reconnects With Thomas The Tank Engine Train Range

Toymaker Hornby (LON:HRN) has announced the exciting news that it is relaunching its classic range of model trains based on "Thomas the Tank Engine" to mark the 70th anniversary of Reverend Awdry's ever-popular children's books!


The model railway set specialist last produced "Thomas The Tank Engine" products in 2013 but has agreed a new licence with HIT, the pre-school entertainment company which has control over the usage of the iconic "Thomas and Friends" brand.

The popular children's TV series, once narrated by ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, recently had a makeover with CGI cartoon shows aired regularly in the UK on Nickelodeon UK's top-performing preschool channel, Nick Jr. UK and Ireland, and as part of Channel 5's Milkshake! programming strand.

Jim Procter-Blain, marketing director at Hornby, told Sky News the new range would have nostalgia appeal so would be manufactured to last beyond the toy-room years.


Thomas' creator, Reverend Wilbert Awdry, inspects a setup for the Thomas TV series in 1981. Britt Allcroft, who created the show, is at right.

He said: "In terms of quality, our Thomas range is made to the same exacting quality as the rest of the Hornby range of model trains – paying absolute attention to detail and assembling every item by hand.

"We're very excited to see children playing with Thomas model trains again - but at the same time we want these products to stand the test of time - and to be passed down from generation to generation."

Richard Ames, Hornby chief executive, said of the new agreement: "Hornby has a strategy to develop licences with strong brands.

"We are delighted to be celebrating another agreement with Thomas & Friends.

"We have been consistently asked by our consumers about our plans and we are pleased to confirm the product line will be in the market in 2015."

In the UK market, "Thomas & Friends" is the number one pre-school character with total sales of merchandise related to the brand up 18% year to date, according to research from NPD data.

Thomas, James, Henry, Percy and Edward train figures will be available at retail from December 2015, ahead of the crucial Christmas season.

Hornby also announced Steve Cook as its new finance director, replacing the incumbent Nick Stone in the summer.


In additional "Thomas the Tank Engine" news, following speculation, Britt Allcroft, the creator of the hit children's television series "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends", has revealed what drives the Isle of Sodor's Economy!:

"I do have the skinny on this, you know," says Allcroft. "Sodor Railways is a cooperative. It is owned by the passengers and the railway staff and — very importantly — all the engines." Sir Topham Hatt, Allcroft posits, is an official appointed by the cooperative. "He has a contract that's renewed on performance," and that's why he can be so gruff. "He needs to keep his job," she says.

This is the second year that Chickenshed have been a part of the experience and their performances are an integral part of the family day.

But the fun does not end there, with some of the world's best-loved characters joining the summer fun. Bart & Homer Simpson, SpongeBob SquarePants, Titan the Robot will all be at Hyde Park to spend time with their fans and provide photo opportunities. Penguin Random House will be bringing along some family favourites - Spot the Dog and Baby Bookworms for storytelling sessions, games, dancing and singing. This will be a unique opportunity for the little ones to see the characters jump off the page and for the youngest of babies to enjoy exploring texture, shape and sound in the interactive workshops based around Ladybird's 'Baby Touch' books. The Internet Movie Database is reporting the exciting the exciting news that Pacific Bay Entertainment ("Santa Hunters", "Splitting Adam", "A Fairly Odd Summer") recently filmed a potential brand-new Original Nickelodeon TV Movie called "Suckers"!


The all-new movie, filmed in Canada during March 2015, will star Nickelodeon stars Brec Bassinger ("Bella and the Bulldogs") and Rahart Adams ("Every Witch Way"). The movie has been written by Adrian Vina and is directed by Vince Marcello.

Although unconfirmed, based on the movies' name and the films expected premiere date, Saturday 31st October 2015, "Suckers" is expected to be a Halloween-themed movie.

Rainbow Promotes Winx Club Worldwide Reunion With New Competitions

Loreto, Italy-based Rainbow, the animation studio behind the popular long-running animated series "Winx Club", is launching competitions with local partners in Portugal, Vietnam and Turkey which are giving fans the chance to win a trip to the Winx Club Worldwide Reunion, which takes place in Italy in September 2015!


In Portugal, Rainbow has teamed with "Winx Club" broadcaster Canal Panda, which is hosting the competition for a ticket to the big reunion on its website, winxclub.com, until Saturday 30th May 2015.

For Turkish fans, Rainbow has announced a promotional collaboration with regional toy distributor Adore Oyuncak. Girls are being invited to take a picture of themselves dressed up as a Winx fairy, along with any "Winx Club" doll. A Rainbow/Adore Oyuncak panel of judges will determine the contest winner.


In Vietnam, meanwhile, toy distributor Viet Tinh Anh is providing a Winx Wish Card with the purchase of any Winx doll, which will then be entered into a prize draw. Weekly prizes will be handed out before the overall winner of the event tickets is revealed at the end of the promotion.

The "Winx Club" brand encompasses seven TV seasons and three feature-length movies. Featuring a special welcome party, a fashion show, a creative lab and a host of other activities, the Winx Club Worldwide Reunion will take place in the town of Jesolo (near Venice) from Thursday 3rd to Sunday 6th September 2015.

Nickelodeon USA has announced the sponge-tastic news in a Tweet on their official Twitter profile page, @NickelodeonTV, that Nickelodeon will be holding a "SpongeBob SquarePants" panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2015!

As part of the Nick's SBSP SDCC 2015 panel, the voice cast of Nickelodeon's hit original animated series will be holding a LIVE table read of a popular episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants", which will be chosen by fans!

Bikini Bottom fanatics can vote for which episode they'd like to see read live by the voice stars of "SpongeBob SquarePants" at San Diego's Comic-Con International in July 2015 by heading to SpongeBob's official Facebook profile page and liking their favorite episode! Kabel Deutschland Adds Catch-Up TV From Viacom

Broadband TV News is reporting the exciting news that Kabel Deutschland, Germany's largest cable operator, has expanded its video-on-demand portal Select Video by adding catch-up TV content from Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) bouquet of cable channels!


Cable customers can now watch programmes from Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, Comedy Central and VIVA on Select Video from now on. The lineup includes series such as "SpongeBob SquarePants", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "Awkward" and "Catfish".


In total, 6.1 million households can access Select Video which contains content from more than 60 TV channels.

Danilo Unveils New "Paw Patrol" Range; Property Becomes Spin Master's Number One Brand

The licensing industry news website Licensing.biz is reporting the PUP-tastic news that Danilo Promotions has teamed with Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) to create a new greetings card and gift wrap range based on Nick Jr.'s hit preschool series "Paw Patrol"!


The firm will be showcasing its initial collection at the PG Live show at the Business Design Centre, Islington on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd June 2015.

The range includes greeting cards, wrap and bags, with 20 skus covering both boys and girls ages, relation captions and gift bags, plus roll wrap as well as sheet wrapping paper.

"We are delighted to join the growing list of Paw Patrol licensees, and to be working on such a fun and entertaining show that is enjoying a huge TV audience," said Trevor Jones, licensing director at Danilo. "PG Live will be an exciting time to showcase this great new range and believe it could be one of our strongest performing ranges for 2015."


Additionally, ToyNews recently reported that, despite the toys only having landed on shelves a few months ago, "Paw Patrol" has already become Spin Master's number one brand!

The firm has seen "Paw Patrol" take off in the collectables market, and Spin Master is expanding its toy offering for the pre-school brand later this year with new brand-new play-sets, bath toys and games based on the popular preschool property.

"Paw Patrol is definitely on a roll," Emma Eden, marketing manager at Spin Master, told ToyNews.

"It's only been a couple of months since toys hit the shelves and "Paw Patrol" is already Spin Master's number one brand. "Paw Patrol" is the top new pre-school property in the market (NPD EPoS Value (£) YTD Feb 2015) and is gaining momentum every week.


"We're seeing that people are trying to collect the whole range of pups, so the collectables are selling extremely well.

"Our Racers line has been a runaway success as it offers great value with a pup moulded in its signature vehicle. The Action Pack Pups, which give true to the show transformation of the Pups backpacks, and Basic Vehicles are also proving popular."

Spin Master believes "Paw Patrol" is on track to exceed sales estimations and already has plans in place make it an iconic pre-school property.

"With great programming in place and fantastic sales success in other parts of the world, we always expected "Paw Patrol" to make a big impact from launch," added Eden.

"That said, based on its performance so far we have to believe that sales for 2015 will exceed our expectations.

"Distribution is expanding and we have a fantastic range for the second half of the year which includes new play-sets, bath toys and games. We've just begun TV advertising the On-A-Roll Vehicles and Lookout Play-set and also have a massive campaign planned for the remainder of the year."

Looking further ahead, Spin Master believes the brand will enjoy a great Christmas and beyond thanks to some new character additions in both the second series of the show and the accompanying toy lines.

"We have a long-term plan to grow "Paw Patrol" as a core pre-school property," Eden told ToyNews.

"We have great scheduling on both Nick Jr. and Milkshake. Series two has already begun to air on Nick Jr. and should follow on Milkshake later in the year. That means that we'll have some lovely new characters coming through in the toy range towards Christmas and into Spring 2016.

"Without wanting to give too much away we also have some exciting new products on the way for 2016 and beyond."

Bandai will once again be taking up a position at the 2015 London Comic-Con!

Following a successful first show in October 2014, the toy firm will be displaying its latest toys, as well as new collectables from its Japanese hobby division at the event, partnering up with its video games arm, Bandai Namco Entertainment.

The Latin American entertainment news blow Anime, Manga y TV is reporting the exciting news that Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) will start to premiere and show the brand-new CG-animated preschool series "Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks", locally titled "Alvin y Las Ardillas", in June 2015!

London, 19th May 2015– Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is forming a new Commercial Innovation group to help advertisers create customised, content-led campaigns that reach beyond existing online advertising inventory to take better advantage of new digital and social media touch points being generated by its brands, including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

The group will work proactively with new and existing Viacom clients to help them develop data-driven, integrated marketing solutions that exploit the unrivalled, multi-platform ability of Viacom's brands to deliver mass consumer engagement across TV, digital and social media.

The team will focus on developing partnerships with third party social media platforms for the benefit of advertisers, such as Lionsgate's exclusive preview of its upcoming release Absolutely Anything on MTV's international Snapchat Discover feed earlier this month. The team will also be responsible for creating bespoke commercial digital products around Viacom's international tentpole events, such as the MTV EMA, which attracted more than half a billion votes and 389 million mentions via social media when it was last staged in Glasgow in November.

Based in London and New York, the team will be led by Philip O'Ferrall, who has been appointed as VIMN's Head of Commercial Innovation. Reporting to VIMN CEO, Bob Bakish, O'Ferrall will work closely with VIMN's Advertising Sales division and its international brand content, marketing and research teams, while his group maintains its own production, strategy and design capabilities.

O'Ferrall will lead the international roll out of Viacom Connect, which will combine a number of new multi-platform advertising initiatives, such as the Echo social media measurement platform developed through the Viacom Velocity unit in the U.S., in partnership with Mass Relevance.

Bakish commented: "Under Philip's leadership, we have significantly developed our digital presence and portfolio, and our social and digital media teams have enjoyed great success in driving mass consumer engagement with our content on multiple media platforms. It's time to Sparkle Up! Nick Jr. UK has announced the exciting news on their website, nickjr.co.uk, that Nick Jr. Too will start to premiere and show "Little Charmers", a brand-new CG-animated preschool series that celebrates the magic of friendship, from Monday 22nd June 2015 at 4:00pm!


"Little Charmers" is an brand-new animated series for pre-schoolers produced by Nelvana Enterprises and Spin Master Entertainment ("PAW Patrol") featuring charmer-in-training, Hazel, and her two best friend charmers, Posie and Lavender, who are getting a broom handle on their special powers.

It's time to Gadget up! Nick Jr. USA has announced the exciting Nickelodeon Preschool news on their official website, nickjr.com, that Nickelodeon USA's preschool channel, Nick Jr. USA, will start to premiere and show "Fresh Beat Band of Spies", a brand-new animated series based on the hit live-action show, "The Fresh Beat Band", on Monday 15th June 2015!


They're the coolest rock stars around. But when the curtain goes down... it's time to spy it up! The "Fresh Beat Band of Spies" is a brand-new animated series about four best friends - Kiki, Marina, Twist and Shout - with typical day jobs who are also... super secret undercover spies! Together, they embark on all kinds of crazy capers and wild super spy missions, using their unique individual talents to outwit a goofy cast of "super villains."


The dynamic team also has the coolest array of techie spy gadgets, vehicles, and disguises. And they have Bo Monkey, an adorable and hilarious sidekick kids will love! Each episode's adventure is full of super funny physical comedy, cartoon humor and gags, and catchy songs.


The curriculum of the series is primarily focused on problem-solving and teamwork. When your kids spy it up with the Fresh Beat Band of Spies, they learn about friendship and teamwork while developing their problem-solving skills. "The Fresh Beat Band of Spies" models the steps to successful problem-solving by working together to figure out mysteries, catch the bad guys, and save the day!

"Fresh Beat Band of Spies" (20 episodes) is created by Nadine van der Velde and Scott Kraft, the same duo behind "The Fresh Beat Band".

KIKI
Kiki is the Fresh Beats' eternal ray of sunshine who's always game for an adventure.
Day job: Owns a hair salon where she creates super stylin' hairdos and disguises for the Fresh Beats
Super Spy gadget: Super-Styler Blow Dryer with settings that range from Gentle Breeze to Humongous Hurricane.
Super Spy vehicle: Guitar that morphs into a scooter

SHOUT
Confident, charming, and athletic, Shout's natural exuberance is contagious. He's a born leader.
Day job: Lifeguard at the local swimming pool
Super Spy gadget: Super shoes that allow him to climb walls, hang from the ceiling, and bounce and jump across a room
Super Spy vehicle: Keyboard that morphs into an awesome hover board

MARINA
Marina is sweet, passionate, and brilliant.
Day job: A chemist at a cupcake bakery where she uses her fresh formulas to help the Fresh Beats save the day . . . and create the world's most perfect cupcake!
Super Spy gadget: Marina's Magnificent Mixer transforms into a tiny helicopter that flies her high into the sky
Super Spy vehicle: Drums that transform into the "Turbowheeler."

TWIST
Loveable goofball and resident DJ, Twist's irrepressible imagination, rubbery body, and need for excitement power the Fresh Beats' adventures.
Day job: Twist and his best bud, Bo Monkey, run the Pet Daycare Center--a chaotic and crazy collection of cats, dogs, and other animals.
Super Spy gadget: Banana Gadget for every situation from a Banana-Scope for spying from far away to a self-returning Banana-Rang.
Super Spy vehicle: Turntables that transform into a Double Pogo To-Go-Go with a special spot for Bo Monkey.
