Report: Nickelodeon May Have Renewed 'Bubble Guppies' for Season 5

Although unconfirmed, it looks like Nickelodeon has renewed its hit CG-animated preschool series Bubble Guppies for a fifth season - two-and-a-half years since the last episode premiered on TV!

Over the past couple of months, posts have been appearing on Instagram announcing that young voice actors have booked roles on the revival, including Taylor Nicole Kaplan, Jordan Friedman and Colby Kipnes.

Kaplan will be voicing Molly, taking over the role from Bailey Gambertoglio; Kipnes will be voicing Oona, taking over from Tori Feinstein; and Friedman will be voicing the Little Fish, taking over from Kayla Erickson.

Update (3/29) - Another two new recurring cast member for Bubble Guppies season five has been announced: Caleb Clark (The Godfather of Harlem) and Quinn Breslin (Butterbean’s Café season two)! Clark will voice Goby, taking over the role from Jelani Imani, and Breslin will be the new voice of Gil, taking over from Jacob Bertrand!

Additionally, a producer of the show has reportedly told Fans of Nick Jr, Disney Junior or PBS Kids Shows that the season five renewal came about after Jonny Belt and Robert Scull, the creators of Bubble Guppies and Nickelodeon's newest hit, Butterbean’s Café had a meeting with Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon's new Executive Vice President (EVP) of Animation Production and Development, who is in charge of the network’s animation content across all formats and platforms spanning digital, TV and film, and after discussions about bringing back Bubble Guppies, and within a few weeks, reached a deal and started writing and casting for the new season!

The title of one of the newBubble Guppies season five episodes has also been revealed to be "Movie Night!"

Bubble Guppies originally premiered on Nickelodeon USA on January 24, 2011 and ran for 80 episodes over four seasons, with the season four finale airing on Friday 21st October 2016.



Created by Jonny Belt and Robert Scull, Bubble Guppies is set in a vibrant underwater environment and follows a group of diverse preschoolers with colorful fish tails who go on adventures discovering their world. Bubble Guppies is set to a soundtrack of catchy, educational pop songs and features a curriculum that infuses the core elements of kindergarten readiness including: math, literacy, the arts, science and socio-emotional development.

Throughout its original four seasons, the series stars Brianna Gentilella (Blue's Clues, Blue's Room), Bailey Gambertoglio (Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Hot in Cleveland) and Tori Feinstein (Chuggington, 3rd & Bird, Arthur) as Molly, Tino Insana (Barnyard, Back at the Barnyard) as Mr. Grouper, Jacob Bertrand (Marvin Marvin, Jinxed, The Legend of Korra, iCarly, Parks and Recreation, The Middle) and Teddy Walsh (Team Umizoomi) as Gil, Jelani Imani (The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin) as Goby, Reyna Shaskan (The Backyardigans) as Oona, Jet Jurgensmeyer (Legends of the Hidden Temple: The Movie, Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, Shimmer and Shine) and Eamon Pirruccello (Thundercats) as Nonny, and Angelina Wahler (Harvey Beaks, Blaze and the Monster Machines), Grace Kaufman as Deema, Kari Wahlgren (Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Harvey Beaks, The Fairly OddParents), Skai Jackson (Dora the Explorer), Frank Welker (The Rugrats Movie, The Wild Thornberrys, CatDog, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, ChalkZone, SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon Toon Twister 3D, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, Where's Wally?, Garfield and Friends, Capitol Critters), and Zachary Gordon (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan). Guest stars on the series include Ozzy Osbourne, RuPaul, Keke Palmer (True Jackson, VP) and NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson.

The news of the season five renewal of Bubble Guppies comes after Butterbean’s Café, the latest preschool series from Bubble Guppies co-creators Jonny Belt and Robert Scull, became Nickelodeon's highest-rated preschool series debut since the 2013 launch of PAW Patrol, posting double-digit year-over-year gains and averaging a 4.6/456,000 with Kids 2-5 (+27%) when the series launched in November 2018. The new episode (1 p.m. [ET/PT]) also drew 1.3 million total viewers (+55%).

Bubble Guppies will also be included in Nickelodeon's upcoming Nick Jr. Live! "Move to the Music" tour of the U.S. later this year.

Nickelodeon Bolsters Noggin Through Acquisition of Sparkler, An Early Childhood Learning Platform

NEW YORK--In a move that further expands the educational value of Nickelodeon’s Noggin, the network has acquired Sparkler, an early childhood learning technology platform, and has installed its co-founder Kristen Kane as the new leader for the direct-to-consumer preschool subscription service. Noggin is Nickelodeon’s ad-free, video subscription service with educational content currently featuring over 1,500 iconic, full-length library episodes, short-form videos, Spanish-language videos, and music videos featuring preschoolers’ favorite characters and more.

Sparkler is an early learning platform that measures child development and delivers personalized content and coaching to parents to improve child outcomes. Over the next year, Sparkler’s technology will be integrated into Noggin’s platform, enabling parents to guide and support their kids’ continued growth and development through engaging, playable content and experiences on and off screen, with personalized features that track progress over time.

Kane, in the new role of Noggin’s Executive Vice President (EVP), will oversee the integration of Sparkler and drive Noggin’s strategy and next phase of development as an educational digital platform. She will be based in New York and report to Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins.


Said Robbins: “Pairing Sparkler’s capabilities with our curriculum-driven content will fully transform Noggin into a premier interactive learning destination for preschoolers and their families. Kristen brings extensive experience in the education and technology space, and she will help drive Noggin’s growth with an increased focus on delivering even greater value to our direct-to-consumer service.”

Subject to the terms of the transaction, Sparkler’s work with schools, healthcare providers, and social services providers will continue through a new non-profit organization called Sparkler Learning, and Viacom will support its mission of helping families give their children a strong start in life through partnerships with educators, doctors, and others serving young families.

Previously, Kane was the founding Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Amplify, an education technology company dedicated to collaborating with educators to create learning experiences for students K-12. Prior to that, she was COO of the New York City Department of Education in the Bloomberg administration, responsible for the implementation of reforms and oversight of daily operations. Kane also served at the Federal Communications Commission, where she led the development of strategies for applying broadband technologies in the education, healthcare, and energy sectors.

Noggin subscriptions have grown by triple digits year over year from 2017 to 2018, and the service is currently available for iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Android, Fire tablet and Roku devices, as well as on Amazon’s Prime Video Channels and The Roku Channel. With over 30 series to date, including current titles like PAW Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines, Peppa Pig, and Bubble Guppies, Noggin’s lineup also features classic favorites such as Dora the Explorer, Blue’s Clues, Team Umizoomi and Yo Gabba Gabba!

Since its launch in 2015, Noggin has consistently ranked at the top of the charts in the Family and Kids categories, and it is one of the Top 10 Kids Apps on the Free Apps chart on the App Store, in addition to being the number-one grossing app for Music and Video in the Family Category on Google Play. Noggin was also selected by Apple as an Apple TV app of the year.

Nickelodeon wants to turn kids’ living rooms into classrooms.

The Viacom Inc.-owned kids’ network has acquired the learning app Sparkler and plans to fold it into Noggin, a video service for preschoolers. Kristen Kane, the co-founder of Sparkler, will now oversee Noggin, which combines a catalog of more than 1,500 episodes of shows like “Paw Patrol” and “Peppa Pig” with play-as-you-go learning challenges involving popular Nick characters.

The companies didn’t disclose terms. The acquisition is a sign of Nick’s growing confidence and investment in Noggin, which has about 2.5 million subscribers.

“This app all of a sudden over the last year is growing like a weed,” said Brian Robbins, the president of Nickelodeon.

Robbins, a successful actor, producer and entrepreneur, hesitated when Viacom Chief Executive Officer Bob Bakish asked him to take over Nickelodeon. While Nick is still the most-watched kids’ TV network in the U.S., viewership of kids’ TV has been in decline for the better part of a decade -- hurt by a new generation of youngsters watching YouTube and Netflix instead of traditional cable and satellite.

Revived Brand

But he saw opportunities to capitalize on its animation studio and live events -- and he saw an underappreciated asset in Noggin. Viacom co-founded Noggin as a cable network in 1999, an offshoot of its popular Nickelodeon channel aimed at younger kids. After turning Noggin into Nick Jr., it revived the brand in 2015 as the name of an online-only service for kids.

Noggin is one of Viacom’s earliest efforts to gain a foothold in the booming market for online video. But it has been something of an afterthought for the past few years, seldom discussed as a huge growth opportunity for a company that has reported declining sales. Netflix Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., meanwhile, invested billions of dollars in kids’ programming to lock in a new generation of families.

That all changed when Viacom began selling the service via Amazon’s channels store. Its domestic subscriber base has more than tripled over the past year. Deals with international pay-TV providers like Telefonica SA have provided a further 1.9 million customers, Robbins said.

Robbins has no intention to compete head-to-head with Netflix and Amazon in entertainment, an expensive proposition. Instead, he wants to further establish Noggin as an app parents can trust -- a productive use of screen time that also entertains. He also intends to expand the service’s target audience to include kids as old as 8, from the current range of 2 to 4.

Sparkler allows parents to measure a child’s early-stage educational development, and it delivers personalized coaching to reach certain goals. Kane used to work for New York City’s Department of Education and News Corp.’s former Amplify digital education unit.

“When handing a kid a device, it feels really good to know that they are getting more out of the experience than just watching,” Robbins said. “Ramping up the education -- and the benefits of that -- I think will make Noggin explode.”

Slipknot Lead Singer Corey Taylor Performs the SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song

SpongeBob SquarePants has a legion of famous fans, including former president Barack Obama, musicians Ariana Grande, Goldie, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Osbourne, the late David Bowie, Wyclef Jean and Liam Gallagher, actors Mike Myers, Scarlett Johansson, David Hasselhoff, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp, Amy Poehler, Katherine Heigl, Patton Oswalt, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, YouTuber Evan Fong, NBA star LeBron James, and skateboarder Tony Hawk - now, it looks like he can add one more celebrity fan to his list: Corey Taylor!


A video has surfaced featuring the heavy metal band Slipknot vocalist singing the iconic SpongeBob SquarePants theme song whilst performing at the KOKO club in Camden Town, London, UK in 2016. During the performance, requested by the audience, Corey plays the part of the narrator, leading the audience in a sing-along. Now, SpongeBob SquarePants and Slipknot aren’t two entities you would immediately place together, but Corey's strong, distinctive vocals are actually perfect when paired with the classic theme tune. Like a true SpongeBob fan, Corey knows all the words and clearly knows exactly who lives in a pineapple under the sea. No matter what kind of mood you’re in, you will not be able to stop yourself from singing along. Check out the Sponge-Tastic video below!

This wasn't the first time Corey has performed the SpongeBob SquarePants theme tune for fans - he performed it during a gig at The Social Club in Orlando, Florida in 2011 - and again, he absolutely nails it!

The audience are singing along too and it’s clearly one of those gigs where everyone is on the same page, having a genuinely fun time while not taking themselves too seriously. Check out the beautiful moment below:

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon. The series has been the most-watched animated program with kids 2-11 for more than 15 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks. SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in Viacom International Media Networks history, seen in more than 208 countries and territories and translated in 55+ languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Among those friends are SpongeBob's best friend, a pink starfish named Patrick Star, his neighbor and co-worker octopus Squidward Tentacles, and Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas.

SpongeBob SquarePants is created by the late Stephen Hillenburg, who previously worked as a writer, director and creative director on Nickelodeon's animated series Rocko's Modern Life. Hillenburg graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a master's degree in experimental animation and his undergraduate degree, from Humboldt State University, was in natural science with an emphasis in marine biology. Hillenburg executive produced the series until his untimely passing in November 2018. His first feature film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which debuted Nov. 19, 2004 and his second theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, hit theaters Feb. 6, 2015, landing at #1 opening weekend.

SpongeBob SquarePantshas been renewed through to at least the show's twelfth season, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019, has its own critically acclaimed Broadway show, set to tour the U.S. from Fall 2019, and has a third upcoming movie, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, set to be released in Summer 2020. Nickelodeon also recently revealed plans to spin off the characters from SpongeBob SquarePants into their own stand-alone series, specials and feature-length movies. The series is produced at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

Viacom to Launch Nicktoons Hungary on Telekom in April 2019 [Update: NickToons Hungary Soft Launches]

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will strengthen its portfolio in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region with the launch of a localised Nicktoons channel in Hungary in April 2019! NickToons Hungary (Magyarország) is slated to launch on the on the Magyar Telekom platform on Tuesday 2nd April 2019.


Update (29/3): Nicktoons Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) will also launch on UPC Magyarország in Hungary! It'll also be available on DIGI and Invitel!

Update (17/2): Nickelodeon has soft-launched NickToons Magyarország, ahead of its official launch in April 2019! As speculated, Nicktoons Magyarország is a simulcast of Nicktoons Poland (Polska) with a Hungarian soundtrack. The channel launched on Tuesday 12th February 2019 and currently broadcasts commercials in English, however, localised advertisements are expected to appear on the channel nearer its official launch. A Romanian soundtrack is also expected to be added in the future. Update (17/3): A Romanian soundtrack has now been added to the channel.

Update (20/2): The Hungary-based media sales house R-time will handle ad-sales for NickToons Magyarország!

NickToons Magyarország will join VIMN's two other dedicated children's channels in Hungary: Nickelodeon Magyarország (a version of Nickelodeon Central and Eastern Europe with a Hungarian soundtrack) for kids aged 4-12 years old, and Nick Jr. Magyarország (a version of Nick Jr. CEE with a Hungarian soundtrack) for children aged 2-6 years. Nicktoons is expected to be aimed towards boys and girls aged 6-to-10 years.

Although unconfirmed, it is thought that NickToons Magyarország will be a simulcast of Nicktoons Poland (Polska), which launched last year. The channel is already designed for international markets, and uses generic on-air design (including bumpers and idents). Nickelodeon commenced testing for a Hungarian version of Nicktoons on the channel during Autumn 2018 by transmitting episodes of Bunsen Is a Beast and SpongeBob SquarePants with a Hungarian audio track on the English audio channel, so it's highly likely this will be the Nicktoons channel that will become available in Hungary.

Nicktoons Magyarország will air a wide range of programming from Nickelodeon's vast library of hit animated series, including SpongeBob SquarePants (SpongyaBob Kockanadrág), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Tini Nindzsa Teknőcök), Bunsen Is a Beast (Bunsen, a bestia), Sanjay and Craig (Sanjay és Craig), T.U.F.F. Puppy (S.T.R.A.M.M. - A kém kutya), King Fu Panda, Avatar the Last Airbender (Avatár - Aang legendája), The Legend of Korra (Korra legendája), Penguins of Madagascar (A Madagaszkár pinginvjei), Rabbids Invasion (Rabbids: Invázió), Harvey Beaks (Csőrös Harvey), Pig Goat Banana Cricket (Malac, Kecske, Banán, Tücsök), Breadwinners (Kenyérkirályok), and ToonMarty, and launch new series, including Welcome to the Wayne (Üdv a Wayne-ben vagy), Mysticons and The Adventures of Kid Danger (Veszélyes Tini kalandjai). Nicktoons is currently available on multiple markets around the world, including in the USA, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Turkey.

The news follows Viacom launching the SVOD service Paramount+, featuring Nickelodeon programming in Hungary, and the launch of Nicktoons Russia (Россия) in December 2018.

Új gyerekcsatorna indul Magyarországon: jön a NickToons

2018. februárjában Lengyelországban elindult a NickToons nevű rajzfilmcsatorna, a Nickelodeon társcsatornája. Egy évvel később nálunk is bemutatkozik a csatorna.

A gyerekcsatornák piaca elég telítettnek tűnik perpillanat, a Nickelodeon anyavállalata mégis bevállalja, hogy új szereplővel lép be a magyarok otthonába. Egy évvel a lengyel indulása utána, Magyarországra is megérkezik a NickToons. A csatorna már akkor a nemzetközi piacra lett tervezve, ugyanis a csatorna azonosítói, bumperjei mind feliratmentesen kerültek adásba, így biztos, hogy ez a változat érkezik meg hozzánk is, a régióban másodikként.

Tavaly ősszel már tesztelni kezdték a magyar hangsávot. A Bunsen, a bestia vagy a SpongyaBob Kockanadrág egy-egy epizódja is magyar nyelven került adásba az angol sávon. Azóta természetesen a tesztek véget értek, ám a magyar hangsáv továbbra is rajta van a csatornán, csupán a műsorok és a szünetek angolul mennek.

A NickToonson olyan népszerű animációs műsorok mennek, mint a már említett SpongyaBob Kockanadrág, de itt látható még A Madagaszkár pingvinjei, a Kung fu Panda, a két Avatár-sorozat (Anng legendája és Korra legendája), korábbi sorozatok közül pedig a Sanjay és Crag vagy a S.T.R.A.M.M., a kémkutya is látható. A csatorna indulásával új sorozatok is bemutatkoznak. Olyanok, mint a Mysticons, az Üdv a Wayne-ben vagy a Veszélyes Tini kalandjai.

A csatorna érkezéséről egyébként a Telekom lakossági közleménye árulkodott:

"2019. április 1-jei és 2019. április 2-i változás: Érintett szolgáltatás: Valamennyi szolgáltatás Módosítás lényegének rövid leírása: Az IPTV és a műholdas (SAT) televízió hálózaton nyújtott Családi, Családi+HD, Szuper Családi HD, Szuper Családi HD 201809 és az IPTV hálózaton nyújtott Szuper Családi Mozi díjcsomagokban a DoQ csatorna 2019. április 1. napjától kezdődően megszűnik. Vagyis ez azt jelenti, hogy a NickToons hivatalos magyar rajtja április 2-án lesz, egyelőre biztosan a Telekom platformjain.

Érkezik a Nicktoons

A Viacom hazánkban is elindítja Nicktoons nevű, a 4-10 éves korosztályt megcélzó rajzfilmcsatornáját.

Az óvodás korúakat megcélzó Nick Jr és a szélesebb korcsoportnak (4-14 éveseknek) szánt, bár leginkább a kistinik körében népszerű Nickelodeon után a Viacom hazánkban is elindítja elsősorban rajzfilmeket sugárzó, a már jelenlévő két csatorna által hagyott korosztályos űrt kitöltő csatornáját, Nicktoons néven.

A csatorna pontos indulási dátuma jelenleg nem ismert, annyi biztos, hogy a Telekom kínálatában április második napjától válik elérhetővé (A szolgáltatónál már bevált gyakorlat, hogy a hónap első keddjén módosítja csatornalistáját. Néhány kivétellel igaz ez, hiszen a csatornalista-módosítást a hamarosan induló Moziverzum és Jocky TV esetében február második keddjén végzik majd el). Így az indulás lehet már akár valamikor március folyamán is, vagy csak április legelején, de akár már februárban is, hiszen a szolgáltató egy március végén lejáró szerződés helyére emeli csak be a csatornát.

A Telekom tájékoztatása szerint a Nicktoons csatorna a kínálatból kikerülő DoQ helyére kerül. A szolgáltató SAT TV platformján minden bizonnyal SD minőségben kerül a kínálatba, IPTV-n viszont a HD is elképzelhető, hiszen a DoQ itt így is jelen van, a Szuper Családi Mozi csomagban.

Illetve a "most" relatívan kezelendő, ugyanis már 12-étől él a magyar hangsáv a csatornán ,emlyen minden műsor megkapta a maga szinkronját.

Ahogy azt korábban már jeleztük, itthon is elindul áprilisban a Nicktoons. Ám úgy tűnik egy korai rajtot már február 12-én megejtett a csatorna, ugyanis élessé vált a magyar hangsáv. Ez annyit tesz, hogy minden műsor, melynek készült magyar szinkron már megkapta a maga anyagait. A reklámszünetek egyelőre angolul hallhatóak még a magyar sávon is, így a tényleges indulásra kell még várni.

A már bejelentett sorozatokon kívül magyar szinkront kapott még a Toon Marty, a Malac, Kecske, Banán, Tücsök és a Kenyérkirályok is. Alább megnézhettek egy rövidke összeállítást a magyar-angol sávról és pár új sorozat főcímdalát.

A Nicktoons hivatalos magyar rajtja április elején lesz, első körben biztosan megjelenik már a Telekomnál.

Ezzel a műsorral indul a Nicktoons

Azt már tudjátok, hogy milyen premiereket hoz el áprilisban a Nicktoons, most ideje megtudni, hogy milyen műsortervezettel lépnek be a magyar piacra.

Már többször is említettük, hogy körülbelül milyen műsorok lesznek láthatóak az új gyerekcsatornán. Áprilistól a Nicktoonson lesz több olyan sorozat is, melyek már nem láthatóak a Nickelodeonon. De legfőképp az emelhető, hogy hűen a csatorna nevéhez csak animációs sorozatok kerülnek képernyőre.

A Nicktoonson visszaköszön néhány olyan cím is, mely jelenleg is fut a fő csatornán (Nickelodeon), mint pl. az elmaradhatatlan SpongyaBob Kockanadrág, vagy az Alvinnn! és a mókusok és a Tündéri keresztszülők. Illetve vannak címek, melyek itthon más csatornákon, felületeken is megtalálhatóak: Kung fu Panda, A Madagaszkár pingvinjei vagy az Avatár - Aang legendája.

Korábban futó és az elmúlt időszakban nem műsoron levő sorozatok is lesznek a csatornán. A Rabbids: Invázió, a Tini Nindzsa Teknőcök, a Korra legendája vagy a Sanjay és Craig ebbe a kategóriába esnek bele, de még régebbi sorozatként a S.T.R.A.M.M. és a Fanboy és Chum Chum képviselteti magát.

Az új sorozatokról pedig már tudtok, jön a Kenyér királyok, a Kergefarm, a ToonMarty és az Üdv a Wayne-ben! Most pedig nézzétek meg a Nicktoons műsortervezetét.

A Nicktoons április 1-jén indul nálunk, várhatóan a legtöbb szolgáltatónál megtalálható lesz. Ami biztos, hogy a Telekom és a Digi már az első napokban beilleszti a kínálatába a csatornát.

Megszűnik az Echo Tv, egyelőre nem tudják pótolni

Bár a közleményben erről most nem esik szó, de szintén érinteni fogja a nézőket, hogy április elsején megszűnik az Echo TV. Ezzel kapcsolatban a Media1 kérdést küldött a kábelszolgáltatónak, hogy hogyan próbálják pótolni a kieső csatornát.

A válasz szerint az Echo Tv jelenlegi programhelyén a lekapcsolás után egy tájékoztató szöveget helyeznek ki a változásról. Arról egyelőre nincs információja a cég kommunikációs munkatársainak, hogy a későbbiekben melyik csatorna kerül a megüresedett programhelyre.

Március 31-én egyébként, ahogy arról korábban beszámoltunk, a DoQ dokumentumcsatorna is megszűnik.

Having said the above, let’s talk a little about Rainbow Rangers.

The show continues to perform exceptionally well on Nick Jr. We have been in a number of different time periods since we launched last November 5. The show broadcasts Monday through Friday in the afternoon, and then again on Sunday mornings. Six days a week is a powerful statement for a broadcaster and a massive vote of confidence. We have had many different lead-ins, including Dora the Explorer (Sundays), Sunny Day, Shimmer and Shine, and Nella the Princess Knight.

Across the entire season to date, Rainbow Rangers has been able to improve upon the ratings of its lead-in shows.

The industry ‘buzz’ for Rainbow Rangers continues to grow. From the start, I have said that this program has every possibility to become the next Paw Patrol, a multi-billion dollar brand, and in the most recent Toy Book, the new CEO of TRU Kids, Richard Barry, actually links the successes in preschool, of Paw Patrol with Rainbow Rangers.

These products will be powerful drivers of Genius Brands revenue and earnings for the future. They are all top-tier manufacturers, and virtually all are the same Disney licensees that create products for Frozen, The Avengers, The Incredibles, and the like.

Llama Llama continues to perform successfully on Netflix where we have just begun deliveries of the second season, and the new episodes are looking even better than the first season. Netflix has repeatedly expressed their excitement about the new season’s episodes. We have also expanded the storyline of Llama Llama by adding a character with disabilities who is not only a strong positive character but also who strongly supports the message of diversity and inclusivity, and has been extremely well received across our licensing base as well.

Viacom & AT&T Announce Renewed Contract | Latest Update: DirecTV Now to Bring Viacom Networks Back April 5

Update (3/29): DirecTV Now has announced that, following last week’s resolution of the carriage dispute between Viacom and AT&T, Viacom channels Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, BET, Comedy Central and VH1 are coming back to its basic "Plus" tier on April 5. Those channels, as well as Viacom networks CMT, Paramount Network and TV Land will also be available on the high-end, $70-a-month "Max" tier. DirecTV will add the channels on Friday, April 5, 2019.

"With our recent favorable contract renewal complete, we are pleased to begin offering select Viacom content as part of our new DirecTV Now Plus and Max packages for customers at no additional charge," AT&T said in a statement.

DirecTV Now is promoting the addition of Viacom channels to with a “Say hello to Viacom Networks (they’re back)” message on its official website.

Viacom has begun warning viewers that its networks might be dropped by AT&T's U-Verse and DirecTV.

The media giant started running spots featuring its networks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Nickelodeon's spot warns that viewers could soon be missing out on Viacom's 22-plus channels and urges them to call AT&T to keep the networks available. Meanwhile, Comedy Central's spot features Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show delivering the message that Viacom's channels could go dark if no deal is reached in time. In a statement, Viacom said it was the top cable family on the AT&T service and said that it has made offers to AT&T that would allow subscribers to keep Nickelodeon, BET, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount while lowering cable bills.

“Viacom is the No. 1 cable family serving key customers and communities on AT&T-DirecTV’s services across kids, teens, 18-49, African Americans and Hispanics. We have made a series of offers that are good for consumers and good for AT&T – giving subscribers more access to the Viacom channels they love, including Nickelodeon, BET, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount, while enabling AT&T-DirecTV to lower customers’ bills in the process.


Unfortunately, AT&T is abusing its new market position by favoring its own content – which significantly underperforms Viacom’s – to stifle competition. AT&T-DirecTV’s behavior is also consistent with a recent pattern of gouging their customers by charging them higher prices for an inferior product with fewer channels. Especially troubling, AT&T-DirecTV is marginalizing diverse audiences in its new DTV packages and threatening to do the same with their existing products.

AT&T, which acquired Time Warner last year, has promised to be aggressive about programming costs on its pay-TV services, particularly DirecTV, which has been losing subscribers.

Last week, AT&T said it was raising the price on its DirecTV Now virtual MVPD service and rearranged some of its programming packages, removing networks from Viacom, AMC Networks and Discovery.

Viacom notes that if AT&T blacks out its networks on Friday, viewers will be missing key events including Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards 2019, airing Saturday, new episodes of Double Dare, Knight Squad, and Henry Danger, and BET’s one-hour primetime news special American Injustice featuring Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, who are also presidential candidates.

Viacom Goes to War With AT&T Over DirecTV Carriage Deal

Viacom has declared war against AT&T, blasting the telco giant on several fronts as the companies wrestle over a carriage renewal deal that is vital to Viacom’s long-term financial health.

As of today, Viacom has begun running crawls and promo spots on its channels warning viewers that Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, MTV and other channels could go dark on AT&T’s DirecTV as of midnight ET on Friday, when the current contract expires.

A Viacom spokesman accused AT&T of everything from price gouging to discriminating against “diverse audiences” with the channel selections in its latest packages of skinny bundles for the DirecTV Now and Watch TV streaming platforms.

“Unfortunately, AT&T is abusing its new market position by favoring its own content – which significantly underperforms Viacom’s – to stifle competition,” a Viacom spokesman said. “AT&T-DirecTV’s behavior is also consistent with a recent pattern of gouging their customers by charging them higher prices for an inferior product with fewer channels. Especially troubling, AT&T-DirecTV is marginalizing diverse audiences in its new DTV packages and threatening to do the same with their existing products.”

DirecTV could not immediately be reached for comment. Carriage battles between programmers and traditional MVPD distributors have ratcheted in recent years as the pay-TV marketplace has grappled with cord cutting and a flood of low-cost competitors.

The Viacom-DirecTV battle has the makings of a clash of media titans because both companies are under pressure to strike an advantageous deal.

Viacom needs to have its two dozen cablers carried by the nation’s largest MVPD, with about 25 million domestic subscribers. Viacom also needs to make sure that the rates DirecTV pays for its channels aren’t severely reduced. If so, Viacom would take a big revenue hit and it would have a domino effect with other large distributors that have favored-nations provisions in carriage deals that would allow them to also cut fees paid to Viacom.

Viacom has faced rate cuts with other distributors including the deal it struck with Charter Communications in 2017. The terms on the table from DirecTV must be significantly lower to prompt such an aggressive campaign from Viacom.

AT&T, on the other hand, is shouldering a heavy debt load and a shrinking domestic subscriber base for DirecTV. Growth at AT&T’s DirecTV Now and Watch TV skinny bundle streaming services has also slowed, as AT&T disclosed in its first quarter earnings. AT&T has let it be known that it will take a hard line with programmers in upcoming carriage deals given the state of DirecTV’s subscriber base.

“We’ve had very good success so far getting to a rationalization of those content costs,” AT&T chairman-CEO Randall Stephenson said in January. “We think this is an equation we can balance…We’ve got to get the content costs in line with what the customer is willing to pay.”


Viacom is encouraging viewers to put pressure on DirecTV to renew the channels via the KeepViacom.com website. In a memo to Viacom employees, CEO Bob Bakish raised the specter of AT&T abusing its market power at the expense of Viacom and consumers now that it is fortified with the Time Warner assets it acquired last June after it prevailed over the Justice Department in a long antitrust fight.

“AT&T continues to insist on unreasonable and extreme terms that are totally inconsistent with the market,” Bakish wrote. “Having recently acquired Time Warner, AT&T appears intent on using its new market power to prioritize its own content at the expense of consumers, who are growing increasingly dissatisfied with paying more for less.”

Viacom Warns Viewers A Potential DirecTV-U-Verse Blackout Is Just Days Away

Setting the stage for the next major pay-TV carriage battle, Viacom is rolling out ads across Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and other networks warning viewers that DirecTV and U-verse soon could be pulling the plug.

Viacom and AT&T’s DirecTV and U-verse systems are nearing the deadline of their current carriage agreement, which expires at midnight ET on Friday (9pm PT). The saber-rattling follows AT&T’s decision last week to drop Viacom networks from the basic tier of its new DirecTV Now packages.

In a statement, Viacom said it has “made a series of offers that are good for consumers and good for AT&T,” but got a cool reception on the other side of the negotiating table.


Like Dish Network and other rivals of AT&T, Viacom is blaming the dispute in part on the makeup of the newly constituted AT&T. The telecom giant owns the No. 1 traditional satellite operator, DirecTV, cable operator U-verse (which has just shy of 4 million subscribers) and WarnerMedia’s potent mix of TV and film content. During the 16-month legal showdown with the government, which sued to try to block AT&T’s $81 billion acquisition of Time Warner, competitors argued that the combined company would use distribution and programming assets as a weapon to harm rivals and, therefore, customers.

“Unfortunately, AT&T is abusing its new market position by favoring its own content – which significantly underperforms Viacom’s – to stifle competition,” Viacom’s statement continued. “AT&T-DirecTV’s behavior is also consistent with a recent pattern of gouging their customers by charging them higher prices for an inferior product with fewer channels. At the same time it is warning customers, Viacom is also trying to buck up internal morale. Last week, when DirecTV Now dropped Viacom from a basic tier of its skinny bundle, the company’s stock dropped (along with those of Discovery and AMC Networks) and questions were raised once again about the company’s trajectory. The rebuff came after two years of progress by CEO Bob Bakish.

The new leader has set about repairing the distribution relationships that had deteriorated badly under predecessor Philippe Dauman. Despite waning ratings and a transforming TV bundle environment, Dauman took a hyper-aggressive negotiating stance and the result was a series of pitched and costly battles. Viacom and Suddenlink, which is now part of Altice, had a blackout that lasted three years.

AT&T, which acquired Time Warner last year, has promised to be aggressive about programming costs on its pay-TV services, particularly DirecTV, which has been losing subscribers.

Last week, AT&T said it was raising the price on its DirecTV Now virtual MVPD service and rearranged some of its programming packages, removing networks from Viacom, AMC Networks and Discovery.

Viacom notes that if AT&T blacks out its networks on Friday, viewers will be missing key events including the Kids Choice Awards on Satuday and BET’s one-hour primetime news special American Injustice featuring Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, who are also presidential candidates.

Will Viacom Channels Go Dark On DirecTV?

Viacom is warning subscribers to AT&T’s DirecTV service that their access to the company’s cable networks including BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon may end unless a disagreement over fees can be resolved before their contract expires Midnight Friday.

According to a memo from Viacom CEO Bob Bakish that was distributed to the press, AT&T is “abusing its new market position by favoring its own content -- which significantly underperforms Viacom’s -- to stifle competition.” The memo goes on to accuse the telecom giant of wanting to charge its customers higher prices for an "inferior" product.


Viacom started a public relations campaign aimed at DirecTV’s subscribers with some of the company’s biggest stars including Trevor Noah of The Daily Show. It also is running a crawl on its channels on the bottom of the screen of DirecTV subscribers and has launched a website called http://www.keepviacom.com/.

“Viacom has made many offers to AT&T-DirecTV that would: Keep these channels on the air; Enable AT&T-DirecTV to lower bills now (and) give consumers more choice,” Keepviacom says. “Rather than work on their customers’ behalf, AT&T-DirecTV continues to raise prices while taking away channels.”

AT&T, for its part, doesn't want customers to lose access to Viacom's channels but believes that it needs to take a hard line on the media company's fees. The telecom giant was "disappointed" that Viacom chose to put DirecTV customers in the middle of negotiations.

"The facts speak for themselves: several of Viacom’s channels are no longer popular," according to an AT&T statement. "Viacom’s channels in total have lost about 40% of their audience in the past six years. Viacom is a serial bad actor in these business negotiations and has repeatedly used these tactics with other distributors."

Both companies are under pressure to strike a deal. As Variety notes, if Viacom significantly cuts the retransmission fees that it charges DirecTV, other pay-TV providers would demand similar treatment. AT&T, on the other hand, needs as many distribution partners as it can get to pay down its heavy debt load from its $67.1 billion acquisition of DirecTV in 2015.

More than 1 million subscribers dropped DirecTV in 2018 thanks to the rise of cord-cutters and increased competition. Interest in the company's DirecTVNow "skinny bundle" also is starting to wane. Customer defections will increase if the DirecTV can't offer Viacom's channels.

A spokesman for DirecTV had no immediate comment.

As advertising spending shifts online, retransmission fees are becoming increasingly important for media companies. Market research firm Kagan expects them to hit $12.8 billion in 2023.

Disputes over retransmission fees are becoming increasingly contentious.

Subscribers to DirecTV’s main rival DishNetwork haven’t had access to HBO and Spanish language network for months after the satellite provider failed to come to term on new distribution agreements. As a result, nearly 1 million net customers dropped DirecTV last year. HBO is part of AT&T’s WarnerMedia business it acquired last year in its $85.4 billion acquisition of Time Warner. More people are expected to drop Dish when the new season of Game of Thrones starts in April.

Viacom Warns of Blackout on DirecTV, Accuses AT&T of Abuses

Viacom Inc. is warning pay-TV customers of AT&T Inc. that they could lose access to channels such as Nickelodeon and MTV unless the companies reach a new programming agreement.

The current contract between the parties expires Friday, Viacom said Tuesday in an email. The media company began activating a “crawl” message on its networks, alerting customers of the looming dispute. The owner of DirecTV, AT&T is the largest pay-TV provider in the U.S., with 24.5 million subscribers.

Viacom, which also owns Comedy Central and BET, says it has made a series of offers to AT&T that allow the company to lower customers’ bills. The New York-based media company accused AT&T of using its new market position, as owner of Time Warner, to favor its own content.

Price disputes between media companies and pay-TV system owners reflect pressure on both sides to squeeze more money from a shrinking pool of cable and satellite customers. Programmers like Viacom count on ad revenue and subscriber fees to pay for the TV shows and movies they air. Pay-TV system owners like AT&T are losing customers to lower-priced options like Netflix Inc.

“AT&T continues to insist on unreasonable and extreme terms that are totally inconsistent with the market,” Viacom Chief Executive Officer Bob Bakish said in a memo to employees. “Having recently acquired Time Warner, AT&T appears intent on using its new market power to prioritize its own content at the expense of consumers, who are growing increasingly dissatisfied with paying more for less.”

Network Competition

AT&T didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. In April, the company will raise prices on its streaming pay-TV service. The company boosted prices for its satellite TV service in January.

The phone giant completed the purchase of Time Warner last year and in the past month won a final victory over the U.S. Justice Department’s efforts to stop the deal on antitrust grounds. Since then AT&T has begun reorganizing the business, which includes Warner Bros. studios, HBO and Turner Broadcasting. The division, which operates networks that compete with Viacom, has been rechristened WarnerMedia.

Viacom shares fell as much as 3.7 percent to $26.50 in extended trading. AT&T was little changed at $30.65. Viacom was among several media stocks that slumped on March 13 following reports that AT&T would be removing channels from a reshaped DirecTV Now streaming service.

Trevor Noah, Lindsay Lohan, Abbi Jacobson, Pauly D and Nicole Polizzi, among other Viacom talent, are asking their social-media followers to call AT&T-DirecTV and post on their social platforms as the expiration date for the conglomerates' contract is set to expire Friday.

The stars of MTV, Comedy Central, VH1 and other channels shared the following message on Thursday, with some adding more personalized messages to the beginning or end of the form message. The messages come as Viacom and DirecTV's contract is one day away from expiring, and the two conglomerates are in negotiations for another deal. AT&T has already dropped Viacom channels from the DirecTV Now streaming service; the AT&T U-verse and DirecTV could be next.

"Unfortunately, AT&T is abusing its new market position by favoring its own content — which significantly underperforms Viacom’s — to stifle competition," Viacom said in a statement on Thursday about the negotiations. "AT&T-DirecTV’s behavior is also consistent with a recent pattern of gouging their customers by charging them higher prices for an inferior product with fewer channels. Especially troubling, AT&T-DirecTV is marginalizing diverse audiences in its new DTV packages and threatening to do the same with their existing products."

The current carriage agreement between AT&T U-verse and DirecTV and Viacom expires at midnight on Friday. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to AT&T-DirecTV, Comedy Central and MTV for comment.

Trevor Noah and Tyler Perry wade into fee dispute between Viacom and AT&T

Viacom Inc. is locked in a high-stakes showdown with AT&T as the telecommunications giant weighs whether to drop Viacom’s cable networks — including MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, BET and Nickelodeon — to save $1 billion a year in programming costs.

The two companies have been negotiating this week to try to hammer out a new carriage contract with a 9 p.m. PDT Friday deadline looming. Without a new agreement in place, or a short-term extension, AT&T would be forced to remove Viacom’s channels from its DirecTV, U-Verse and WatchTV services.

Programs like “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” and “South Park” on Comedy Central; “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Paw Patrol” on Nickelodeon; and “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood” on VH1 would disappear for AT&T’s customers.

Viacom has enlisted several of its top stars, including Trevor Noah, Tyler Perry and Lindsay Lohan, to rally fans to pressure AT&T to keep the channels.

"If you think government shutdowns are bad, get ready for something worse. AT&T-DirecTV might drop Comedy Central and up to 22 other Viacom channels,” Noah posted on Twitter. “If that happens, you won’t be able to watch The Daily Show with me! Call 888-250-5557 and tell AT&T-DIRECTV to keep Comedy Central.”

Perry weighed in on Facebook: “This is crazy. I’ve had DIRECTV for years. You can’t just drop BET!!! And not expect there to be backlash.”

AT&T is the nation’s largest pay-TV provider. Its various TV services, including the DirecTV Now streaming service, have about 24.5 million subscribers. For example, DirecTV is one of the largest pay-TV providers in the Los Angeles area, with about 1 million subscribers.

The dispute comes as both companies struggle to adapt to industry shifts. Streaming services such as Hulu and Netflix have provided consumers with lower-cost alternatives to high-quality television.

Viacom has suggested that it is prepared to lower its fees to strike a deal with AT&T.

“We’ve made a series of offers that are both good for consumers and good for AT&T – giving subscribers more access to the Viacom channels they love, while enabling AT&T to lower subscribers’ bills and provide customers with a variety of packages and price points,” Viacom Chief Executive Bob Bakish said in a note to staff members this week. “Despite these efforts, AT&T continues to insist on unreasonable and extreme terms that are totally inconsistent with the market.”

Aside from disagreements over fees, Viacom and AT&T are also tussling over how widely Viacom channels will be available on streaming platforms that compete with DirecTV.

Viacom’s channels aren’t as popular as they were a few years ago — its ratings are down 40% since 2011, according to analysts. And DirecTV has been walloped by customer defections, a problem that has weighed on AT&T’s stock price for much of the last year.

DirecTV lost about 650,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter, underscoring the big challenges facing the El Segundo pay-TV service. AT&T bought DirecTV in 2015 for about $50 billion. Last year, the Dallas telecommunications company paid $85 billion for Time Warner Inc., which owns HBO, CNN, TNT and TBS. Now AT&T is choking in debt: more than $175 billion.

AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson told Wall Street that reducing debt is a top priority.

“DirecTV pays Viacom about $1 billion a year. That’s a lot of cash AT&T could use” for paying off debt, Bernstein & Co. media analyst Todd Juenger wrote Thursday in a research report. “How many other low-risk opportunities does AT&T have to save $1 billion in cash?”

Other analysts said dropping Viacom could be catastrophic for DirecTV, which carries 17 Viacom channels.

“We think AT&T is being a bit irrational,” Marci Ryvicker, media analyst with Wolfe Research Securities, wrote in a report. She noted Viacom channels account for nearly 20% of viewership on the DirecTV service.

The ongoing negotiations at the DirecTV campus in El Segundo suggest that AT&T isn’t prepared to permanently drop the channels. If there is a blackout, it may be brief, analysts speculated.

“We’re disappointed to see Viacom put our customers in the middle of their negotiations,” AT&T said in a statement. “We are on the side of customer choice and value and want to keep Viacom’s channels in our customers’ lineups. The facts speak for themselves: Several of Viacom’s channels are no longer popular. Viacom’s channels in total have lost about 40% of their audience in the past six years.”

Viacom’s weakness in such contract negotiations is one reason why its controlling shareholder, Shari Redstone, wants to combine the company with CBS Corp. Pay-TV operators would be unlikely to drop the channels if they were packaged with the CBS network — one of the most popular in television. However, it is up to the boards of Viacom and CBS to decide whether they want to restart merger talks.

CBS also may come to blows with the phone company this year; the broadcast network’s distribution contract with AT&T expires at the end of June.

Viacom, AT&T negotiations weigh on possible CBS tie-up: sources

Viacom Inc’s bitter contract renewal talks with AT&T Inc’s DirecTV that could see the blackout of MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central by midnight Friday are weighing on a possible tie-up of CBS and Viacom, sources familiar with the discussions said.

Although the boards of CBS and Viacom have not discussed or decided on pursuing a merger, these sources say they are studying AT&T’s impact on Viacom and how it affects the company’s motivation to pursue a CBS merger. Viacom needs to resolve the AT&T contract before considering any other strategic moves including mergers and acquisitions, sources said.

Both companies are controlled by the Redstone family’s National Amusements Inc, which pushed for a merger last year but backed off as CBS explores other options before deciding on another run at Viacom.

Viacom would take a substantial financial hit without an AT&T deal. AT&T is Viacom’s largest distributor, representing 24.5 million total video subscribers, and was responsible for about 15 percent of Viacom’s 2018 revenue. At stake are about $2 billion annually in fees and advertising, which are seen declining in any new deal, according to Wall Street estimates.

The 2017 Viacom and Charter Communications Inc renewal resulted in a 15 percent rate decrease. A similar outcome with AT&T could lead to a $156 million drop in annual affiliate fees paid by AT&T to Viacom, although some analysts have estimated an approximate 10 percent decrease this time.

Viacom and AT&T declined to comment. Negotiations continued as of Friday afternoon, sources said.

Failure to reach a deal is seen emboldening CBS and Viacom’s controlling shareholder’s position to put the companies together to give them better leverage in future distribution contract talks.

“Viacom’s clear need for greater negotiating leverage after being dropped by AT&T might be the final factor necessary to drive the long-speculated CBS-Viacom merger given the common control of both companies by the Redstone-controlled National Amusements,” Credit Suisse analyst Doug Mitchelson said in a research note this week.

If AT&T and Viacom walk away from the table, the No. 2 U.S. telecoms company’s position could also be weakened, especially if it faces a combined CBS and Viacom by the end of June, when CBS’s contract with AT&T expires.

Dropping the CBS broadcast network and NFL games would be disastrous to AT&T, and they may end up paying more for Viacom channels through CBS, analysts have said.

Losing Viacom will also weaken AT&T’s leverage as it faces Walt Disney Co later this year, according to Mitchelson.

Shares of Viacom closed down 2.46 percent at $25.34 on Friday while AT&T shares closed flat at $31.07.

DirecTV Now to Bring Viacom Nets Back April 5

MTV, BET, Comedy Central, Nick, Nick Jr. and VH1 set to return to vMVPD's base tier

DirecTV Now has confirmed that Viacom channels MTV, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and VH1 are coming back to its basic "Plus" tier on April 5.

Those channels, as well as Viacom networks CMT, Paramount Network and TV Land will also be available on the high-end, $70-a-month "Max" tier.

As MCN noted Thursday, Viacom channels were among those removed from the live-streamed pay TV service earlier this month amid a major restructuring of the platform.

However, DirecTV Now operator AT&T and Viacom were at the business end of a program licensing renewal negotiation at the time, and it was unclear as to whether the networks would come back following the successful signing of a new carriage agreement.

The two sides announced a carriage renewal earlier this week. But the Viacom nets weren’t immediately added to the newly configured DirecTV Now “Plus” and “Max” bundles.

"With our recent favorable contract renewal complete, we are pleased to begin offering select Viacom content as part of our new DirecTV Now Plus and Max packages for customers at no additional charge," AT&T said in a statement.

Viacom Channels Added To DirecTV Now Basic Tier After Carriage Settlement

As a knock-on effect of last week’s resolution of a carriage dispute between AT&T and Viacom, DirecTV will soon add several Viacom networks to both of its subscription tiers.

The channels will become available April 5 on the $50-a-month Plus level and the $70-a-month Max level. Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, BET and Comedy Central are available on Plus.

A few days before the drama surrounding the March 22 expiration of a high-stakes carriage agreement between the companies, DirecTV Now had unveiled Plus and Max, which upped the monthly rate for DirecTV Now but also shuffled the lineups. The Plus and Max tiers did not include any Viacom networks, and likewise skipped programming from companies like AMC Networks, Discovery and A+E. Stocks in all of those content companies took a significant hit as a result, and the move signaled that AT&T would not fold easily in its talks with Viacom.

The dispute wound up being resolved early Monday without a blackout of Viacom channels on AT&T’s 24.5 million households getting DirecTV satellite or U-Verse cable service.

Normally, the movement of channels and systems is routine and not always worth such detailed coverage. But the case of Viacom is unique for a few reasons. First of all, the relationship with AT&T is significant, estimated to account for some 25% of distribution revenue. Second, the company has been in an aggressive push under CEO Bob Bakish to repair relationships with pay-TV partners after years of acrimony under Bakish’s predecessor, Philippe Dauman.

Looming in the background as well is the prospect of Viacom reuniting with CBS, with whom it shares a controlling shareholder, National Amusements. While some on Wall Street had cautioned that a DirecTV blackout could have hobbled Viacom to the point that it would need to do a CBS deal as a matter of survival, Loop Financial analyst Alan Gould argued just the opposite today in changing his rating on Viacom from a “hold” to a “buy.”

BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield noticed the Viacom news on the DirecTV Now website earlier today and tweeted screen grabs. “Say hello to Viacom Networks (they’re back),” he added in an accompanying tweet.

Viacom Channels Are Coming to DIRECTV NOW PLUS and MAX Plans

Earlier this month, DIRECTV NOW announced two new plans called DIRECTV NOW PLUS ($50) and DIRECTV NOW MAX ($70). They both gained HBO, but lost almost 18 Top Cable Channels from A+E, Viacom, Discovery/Scripps, and AMC. Both plans includes locals and cable channels from Disney, NBCU, FOX/FX, and Hallmark.

After extending their agreement with Viacom, there was uncertainty whether the new deal will keep the channels on all the same plans and tiers across DIRECTV NOW and AT&T WatchTV. While the channels were recently removed in their new DIRECTV NOW PLUS and MAX plans, those grandfathered into the existing Live a Little, Just Right, Go Big, and Even More plans include Viacom networks.

It appears that in the case of DIRECTV NOW PLUS and MAX, six channels -- BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and VH1 will be added to both plans. The DIRECTV NOW MAX Plan will see CMT, Paramount Network, and TV Land also join the lineup. It is expected that the channels will join the service by April 5th.

Just last month, Viacom agreed to a deal with fuboTV to bring their channels to subscribers this Spring. The company has also been available on Sling TV, as well as the the $16 a month, entertainment-only streaming service thestreamable.com since they launched in 2017. Viacom channels aren't available on PlayStation Vue, Hulu Live TV, or YouTube TV.

Earlier this year, Viacom acquired ad-supported streaming TV service, Pluto TV for $340 million. The service which offers 100 linear channels of lifestyle, news, sports, and entertainment content through partnerships with 130 media networks.

Chris Pratt, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ellen DeGeneres, Adam Sandler, Robert Downey Jr., Shawn Mendes, Zendaya, Noah Centineo, Selena Gomez, Joey King, Jace Norman, JoJo Siwa, David Dobrik, Avengers: Infinity War, Riverdale and DJ Khaled were among those who won coveted orange blimps at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2019 on Saturday, March 23, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Hosted by music mogul DJ Khaled, the unpredictable and always messy awards show was broadcast live from USC’s Galen Center in Los Angeles, where kids celebrated their favorites in pop culture, television, music, social media and movies.

This year’s party kicked off with DJ Khaled making his way to the Kids’ Choice Awards in style, with an assist from friends Kylie Jenner and the Jonas Brothers. His next-level arrival began with a ride in a Rolls Royce Phantom, followed by a cruise on a luxury yacht, and a trip on board the “Kids’ Force One” helicopter before landing at the Kids’ Choice Awards.

There was no shortage of slime and epic moments from this year’s show: Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott from Disney’s Aladdin arrived on a magic carpet and made the audience’s slime-filled wishes come true, dousing Smith and kids in green goo; DJ Khaled had to don a JoJo bow after losing a dance battle to JoJo Siwa in a live vote; Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez and Michael Peña, from Dora and the Lost City of Gold, world premiered the trailer for the upcoming Paramount Players live-action movie; DJ Khaled then surprised the audience by unboxing social media sensation Ryan of Ryan ToysReview; social media star David Dobrik, Chris Pratt, Josh Peck and Adam Sandler were soaked from head to toe; and the show culminated with DJ Khaled turning up the volume one last time with the biggest sliming of the night, blanketing the first-time host and the crowd.

Multiplatinum hip-hop trio Migos performed their hits “Walk It Talk It” and “Stir Fry,” along with rising single “Pure Water,” accompanied by DJ Durel. Members of the original Broadway cast of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical--Allan Washington (“Plankton”), Brian Ray (“Mr. Krabs”), Christina Sajous (“Sandy”), Danny Skinner (“Patrick”), Ethan Slater (“SpongeBob”) and Gavin Lee (“Squidward”)--also made their KCA debut with a medley of “Best Day Ever” and the animated show’s iconic theme song.

Additional celebrities in attendance include: Paris Berelc, Ally Brooke, Lana Condor, Joel Courtney, Jennifer Hudson, Jack & Jack, Liza Koshy, Caleb McLaughlin, Janelle Monáe, Shameik Moore, Bebe Rexha, Kiernan Shipka, Lilly Singh, SSSniperWolf and Jason Sudeikis; cast members of Shazam! (Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer and Zachary Levi) and Fuller House (Andrea Barber, Soni Nicole Bringas, Candace Cameron Bure, Michael Campion, Elias Harger, Jodie Sweetin and Scott Weinger); plus Nickelodeon stars from Henry Danger, Cousins For Life and Knight Squad.
