'Blue’s Clues & You' Star Joshua Dela Cruz Enlists His Furry Best Friend Ollie as On-Set Coach

Joshua Dela Cruz, Blue's new pal in Blue’s Clues & You, Nickelodeon's upcoming Blue’s Clues revival, is currently hard at work in Toronto, Canada. Although he's seasoned Broadway star, having appeared on stage in Disney’s Aladdin, David Byrne’s Here Lies Love and Encores!: Merrily We Roll Along, and has appeared on TV in CBS’ Bull and ABC’s Time After Time, Blue’s Clues & You is Josh's first starring role on television.


To help Josh prepare for his scenes, he has enlisted the help of a very special on-set couch: his 3-year-old pup, Ollie! Who else better to help you on lines for Blue’s Clues & You than your dog, especially your own pup?! Judging from this adorable photo Josh shared on his Instagram, below, Ollie is taking his new found role very seriously!


"Ollie in concentration mode breaking down the scene. I don’t know what I’d without my on set coach!! #bluescluesandyou," Josh captioned the pic.

It's too early to say whether we'll see Ollie share the screen with Josh and Blue on Blue’s Clues & You, but we'll get to see when the show premieres, slated to debut during early 2020!

Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues has found a new pal for Blue in TV newcomer and Broadway actor Joshua Dela Cruz, and a brand-new title: Blue’s Clues & You. Dela Cruz will have a new generation of preschoolers searching for clues with the beloved energetic girl puppy Blue. Production on Blue’s Clues & You is underway in Toronto.

Original Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns helped guide the audition process during the search for the new host. Said Burns, “I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up! He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt.”

Joshua Dela Cruz is making his television series regular debut as the new host of Blue’s Clues & You. Dela Cruz recently appeared in Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway as the understudy for Aladdin and a member of the ensemble. Other notable theatre credits include David Byrne’s Here Lies Love and Encores!: Merrily We Roll Along. He has also appeared in CBS’ Bull and ABC’s Time After Time.

“The search for the new host of Blue’s Clues & You was no small task, but we knew as soon as we met Josh that he was the perfect choice,” said Shelly Sumpter Gillyard, Executive Vice President, Talent, Music and Events, Nickelodeon Group. “From his genuineness to his comedic timing and range, there was no doubt that he could carry the show on for the next generation of preschoolers.”

In Blue’s Clues & You (20 episodes), beloved puppy Blue invites viewers to join her and the live action host on a clue led adventure and solve a daily puzzle. With each signature paw print, Blue identifies clues in her animated world that propel the story and inspires viewers to interact with the action.

The original Blue’s Clues series launched in September 1996 to critical praise from educators, parents, and preschoolers and ran for six groundbreaking seasons. Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler, and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues drew acclaim and high ratings for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions, and anatomy.

Nickelodeon to Premiere 'Glitch Techs' in 2019; Halts Production on Season 2 [Updated 1/27]

The latest news updates about Nickelodeon's upcoming animated series Glitch Techs.


Update (1/8/2019): Production crew are reporting on social media that Nickelodeon today (Tuesday, January 8, 2019) unfortunately halted production of Glitch Techs. The crew were in the midst of production of season two. However, as the show has yet to premiere, Nickelodeon wants to air the show before spending more money on it - even if that means losing the whole crew. Evan Palmer, who broke the news on Twitter, stressed that the show has not been cancelled at this point, just that production has been halted. It has also been revealed that the first season is nearly complete, and it is still set to air during 2019. Following the news breaking, production crew working on Glitch Techs paid tribute to the show on social media. A selection of posts can be read below.

Update (1/10): Eric Robles, the co-creator of Glitch Techs, has reiterated in a post on Instagram that Glitch Techs has NOT been cancelled:

"I want to thank you all for reaching out in support of Dan, myself and the Glitch Techs team. To clear any bad air, please know Glitch Techs is not cancelled. As I write this, we are in production, getting amazing animation back from Europe and Asia. Let me also speak from the heart when I say that Nickelodeon Animation has been nothing but supportive in ensuring Dan and myself the freedom to create an original and unique IP in a time where these types of projects are few and far between. As most of you know, until a show actually airs most studios will only grant a writing pick up for your series and only IF they feel good about the show’s chances. So in our case, we were deeply grateful when Nickelodeon saw fit to pick up an extra half-season production order. This kept our amazing team of artists and designers together longer than we ever could have expected.. As you can guess, producing animated shows, (particularly with ambitious and dynamic action sequences,) can get very expensive. As we hit the new year still being an untested show and with money needed for brand new content, we were told the business decision was for the network to launch our series with 20 gorgeous episodes for you and kids at home to respond to. Although our crew’s abrupt dismissal this past week was a terrible shock, we remain so grateful for the time they were able to devote to our second season episodes. We can only hope that when the show finally airs and reaches its audience, production on the remainder of our half season (and hopefully more,) can resume. As a kid growing up, I always dreamt of working and sharing ideas with people as talented as our crew and now I find myself having had the privilege to work with them every single day for the last two and a half years. Nickelodeon Froze Production, Laid Off Significant Crew On Its Upcoming Series ‘Glitch Techs’

On Monday, Nickelodeon abruptly froze part of the production of its upcoming series Glitch Techs, leading to the immediate layoff of a large percentage of the show’s production crew at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California.

A co-creator of the upcoming series, Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), described the production halt as a “shock” on Twitter, and when artists on the series began speaking on social media about having been laid off with no warning, it led to speculation that the series had been cancelled by the network.

However, that is not the case. The show’s other creator, Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum), went on social media to clarify that the series is still going forward at Nickelodeon.

According to an Instagram message that Robles posted on Wednesday, Nick still intends to launch a full first season consisting of 20 episodes. “As I write this, we are in production, getting amazing animation back from Europe and Asia,” Robles said. “Let me also speak from the heart when I say that Nickelodeon Animation has been nothing but supportive in ensuring Dan and myself the freedom to create an original and unique IP in a time where these types of projects are few and far between.”

The production freeze happened on a second half-season order of the show, Robles explained, but that will not have an effect on the completion of the first season, which is ongoing. “As most of you know, until a show actually airs most studios will only grant a writing pick up for your series and only IF they feel good about the show’s chances. So in our case, we were deeply grateful when Nickelodeon saw fit to pick up an extra half-season production order. This kept our amazing team of artists and designers together longer than we ever could have expected.”

The laid off artists continue to remain enthusiastic about the future of the show, which follows two kids recruited to battle video game monsters that have found their way into the real world. One production artist on the series who spoke with Cartoon Brew said, “At this point all I can ask for is that we garner as much positive support for the show as possible. I don’t have anything negative to say about Nick — they, along with Eric and Dan, have been as transparent thus far as they are able to be, and have gone to great lengths to care for the Techs team.”

Another artist on the series, Phillip Jacobson, wrote a lengthy public post on a Youtube video, saying, “The network, the show runners, all of us — literally everyone at Nick is SO hyped for this show. I’m telling you, Ian Graham, our SP [supervising producer], worked on Avatar, Korra, Zim, etc- and I can’t quote him directly, but every time there’s a lock animatic screening all he tells me about is how hyped the execs are for this.”

The sudden work stoppage, however, has affected the mood at the rest of the studio and put Nickelodeon employees on edge about the studio’s commitment to original productions.

An artist currently working on another production at the studio told Cartoon Brew, “In the wake of this news, morale at the studio has plummeted. At the past two Townhall meetings we have been told by the higher ups that they want to greenlight productions and they want to put more trust into their shows. Their actions show the complete opposite of this. Letting an entire team of incredible artists go without notice before airing any content is not trusting the production.…Those artists on Glitch Techs were extremely talented and I don’t imagine that talent will be coming back to Nickelodeon. Those are severe consequences especially when trying to compete with power house studios that have talent flocking to them. It is not hard to see, just look at Netflix’s creator line up for animation!”

The current uncertainty at the studio level stems in part from the shifts happening at Viacom, the company’s corporate parent. Though Nickelodeon remains the most-watched children’s network on linear television and generates more revenue than any Viacom property, its ratings have been in perpetual freefall over the last few years as children’s viewing habits shift to streaming providers like Netflix and Google’s Youtube. Recognizing that it could no longer effectively compete with the streamers, Nickelodeon announced last summer a strategic shift to a “studio model,” under which its animation studio would produce new and original content for third-parties like streaming services, in addition to the programs that it already makes for its own network.

Among the first major deals it signed was with competitor Netflix. As part of that deal, Nick has already delivered to Netflix the original production Pinky Malinky, which had originally been slated to air on Nickelodeon when the series was greenlit back in 2015. Nick is also producing a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for Netflix.

In addition to its experimentation with a studio model strategy, Nick has also overhauled its upper-management team in recent months, appointing both a new president (Brian Robbins) and a new executive v-p of animation production and development (Ramsey Naito).

As a kid growing up, I always dreamt of working and sharing ideas with people as talented as our crew and now I find myself having had the privilege to work with them every single day for the last two and a half years. I cannot express how much fun it has been to create this show and know it is going to have an impact when we share it with the world.

Eric Robles, the co-creator of Glitch Techs has announced the exciting news in a post on Instagram that Nickelodeon is planning to premiere the network's brand-new animated series, an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world, in 2019! Eric also revealed that Nick may be planning to air a super sneak-peek of Glitch Techs in 2018! To celebrate the upcoming launch of Glitch Techs, Eric shared some awesome art featuring a few of the special lighting color scripts from the show directed by Scott Kikuta! Glitch Techs (working title) is an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world. The series comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season.

Glitch Techs will boast a multi-ethnic cast, including a Muslim-American female character who will wear a hijab. At a industry panel held late last year, the co-creators explained that when they were developing Glitch Techs, they “recognized the need to incorporate characters reflective of the viewing audience, whether they are background characters or main characters,” and revealed that they had worked with MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) to “figure out how to accurately display an authenticity, even down to little behaviors.” Dan Milano further elaborated, “Even though we’re an animated show and they are trying to catch creatures, we want small things. We want to know that a stray hair came out of that hijab, and she had to tuck it behind her ear because that’s a human moment, that’s a practical moment, from everyday life.”

It was recently announced that Emmy-award winning actor Bryton James (Winx Club, The Young and the Restless) will be voicing a character in Nickelodeon Glitch Techs.

Nick Germany Announces 'Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2019: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz'

Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland), Switzerland (Schweiz) and Austria (Österreich) has announced the aweslime news that Nickelodeon are once again partnering with Europa-Park, Germany's largest amusement park, to host the second annual Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz, Nickelodeon GSA's localised version of Nickelodeon's 2019 Kids' Choice Awards, which this year promises to be bigger and better before, with even more children and of course, much more of Nickelodeon's iconic slime!


Launched in 2018, Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz invited kids across Germany, Switzerland and Austria to vote and celebrate their local favourite stars from film, television, music and social media, with the winners receiving their Orange Blimp Awards at a super slimy event at Europa-Park in Rust in front of a audience of 1,000 children.


For Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz 2019, the event will move to an even bigger location: the Europa-Park Arena! This year, up to 2,500 kids will be able to experience the most slimy show of the year with their families.

This years Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz will take place on Thursday 4th April 2019. As in 2018, Nickelodeon is teaming up with MackMedia, Europa-Park's own production company, to film and produce a television special featuring all the slimy highlights from the show, which will air on Nickelodeon Deutschland, Nickelodeon Schweiz and Nickelodeon Österreich the following weekend.

Nickelodeon's 2019 Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) ceremony, in which kids around the world will honour their global and local favourites from the worlds of film, television, music, pop culture, animation and more with coveted orange blimp awards, will be held in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, March 23, 2019, and will air live from 8:00pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon USA. The event will then roll out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks across 170+ countries and territories soon after.

The Power Rangers are back in Power Rangers Beast Morphers, coming soon to Nickelodeon, and to celebrate, Hasbro unveiled a first look at their upcoming Power Rangers Beast Morphers role-play collection!


The first toys to be shown following Hasbro’s acquisition of the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Brands last year, the new role-play line will be available at retail this spring. Check out a first look at the line below!

Nickelodeon Universe at American Dream to Feature TMNT, SpongeBob & Slime Themed Roller Coasters

COWABUNGA! Nickelodeon Universe at American Dream has announced that the upcoming Nickelodeon-branded theme park will feature rollercoasters inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants and SLIME!


Two rollercoasters we’ve already heard about -- and two we haven’t -- were revealed at a recent gathering of roller coaster enthusiasts and industry insiders. The thrill rides are in the works inside the massive theme park in the under-construction American Dream mega-mall in Bergen County, New Jersey.


The American Coaster Enthusiasts held an annual “EastCoaster” gathering at Hershey Park this past weekend where representatives from Nickelodeon Universe unveiled four roller coasters that will be part of the indoor theme park at the American Dream, Elizabeth Ringas, communications coordinator for ACE said.

Triple Five, the developer of the American Dream, announced more than a year ago that two record-setting roller coasters would be coming to the site. But their themes and character-associations were not known until this ACE announcement.


Roller coaster enthusiasts rejoiced. Here’s what ACE has shared of the news:

The roller coaster with the record-setting steepness will be called the TMNT Shellraiser (TMNT = Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle). It’s from German-based Gerstlauer, and the model is referred to as the “Eurofighter.” It will hold the record as the steepest plunge on a rollercoaster in the world.

The ride will pause at the top of a 122-foot drop, giving riders a glimpse of New York City - the home of the Turtles - across the Hudson River!

The other record-setter we’ve been hearing about has now been identified as “The Shredder” -- likely named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle antagonist, Shredder. It is also a Gerstlauer model and it will hold the record for being the tallest and longest free-spinning roller coaster.


Two previously unmentioned roller coasters were also unveiled: Sandy’s Blasting Bronco, inspired SpongeBob SquarePants’ dive suit-wearing friend, Sandy Cheeks, and Slime Streak, inspired by Nickelodeon's famous slime!


The final new ride unveiled is called Slime Streak. It’s manufactured by Kansas-based Chance Rides and is less heart-pounding and more family-oriented than the record-setting roller coasters planned for American Dream.



Representatives for American Dream and Nickelodeon Universe did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The 3 million-square-foot American Dream mega-mall is expected to open this spring. About 55 percent of it will be devoted to entertainment, including the 8-acre indoor Nickelodeon Universe amusement park. The rest will be retail.

Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) will start to premiere and show Kally's Mashup season two on Monday 18th February 2019 at 6:00pm on Nickelodeon Colombia / 7:00pm on Nickelodeon Venezuela and Nickelodeon Argentina / 8:00pm Nickelodeon Chile and Nickelodeon México!

Kally’s MashUp is inspired by the real-life musical journey of Glee’s executive musical producer, Adam Anders. It follows the adventures of Kally, a young musical prodigy who tries to balance her life as a piano virtuoso and a regular girl when she moves from a small town to the most prestigious music university in the country. Although everyone thinks she was born to be a classical piano player, her true dream and passion is to be a pop star. Kally’s MashUp features original songs composed by Anders, his wife Nikki Anders, and longtime collaborator Peer Astrom. Anders serves as executive producer for the show and oversees all the music featured in the series.

Kally's MashUp season one (75×60-minute episodes) debuted on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica in October 2017 and has since been seen by more than 5 million viewers across the Latin American region, achieving the No. 1 position in Mexico among girls aged 7 to 14 years. Following its success, Nickelodeon Latinoamérica recently ordered more new episodes.


Kally's Mashup season two (45x60-minute episodes) made its world debut on Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) on Monday 22nd October 2018.

A new line of consumer products inspired by the popular series was released earlier this year. "Kally's MashUp: La música: banda sonora original de la serie de TV", a album featuring 18 songs from the hit TV show, was released on Friday 9th March 2018 by Deep Well Records, under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC. The album can be downloaded now at kallysmashupofficial.com. A live stage show is expected to launch during winter 2018. Nickelodeon Latinoamérica recently hosted a contest in which one lucky Kally's MashUp fan won the chance to feature in the season finale of Kally's MashUp 2.

Kally's MashUp has been snapped up by television channels around the globe, including TeenNick Israel, DeA Kids in Italy, Gulli in France, Gulli Girl in Russia, DStv Kids in Angola and Mozambique, and Biggs in Portugal.

Nickelodeon Latin America and Nickelodeon Brazil to Premiere 'Club 57' on Monday 6th May 2019

Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) will premiere Club 57 on Monday 6th May 2019! The series will launch simultaneously on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica and Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil). The series will also air on the RAI network in Italy.


Cast of Club 57

Club 57 is a brand-new time-travelling themed series that tells the story of a 14-year-old tech loving girl who accidentally travels back in time. Stuck in the past, she discovers her passion for music, and falls in love. The first season of Club 57 will feature 60 one-hour episodes. Nickelodeon is co-producing the series with the Italian production company Rainbow Group (Winx Club, Regal Academy, 44 Cats, Mia and me, Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends).

Club 57 will launch as Nickelodeon Latinoamérica celebrates 10 years of local productions, and will also mark Nickelodeon's 10th locally produced show for audiences in Latin America and Brazil.

Club 57 is recorded at Viacom International Studios (VIS) in Miami, Florida, with exterior shots filmed on location in Martina Franca in Puglia, Italy.

Club 57 will feature a truly pan-regional cast, with actors from Argentina, Colombia, México, and Venezuela. The cast will also feature actors from Italy.

Club 57 will star Isabella Castillo (Yo Soy Franky, Vikki RPM, GRACHI) as Amelia; Andrés Mercado (Yo Soy Franky, GRACHI) as Manuel; Simoné Marval as Isa; Mauricio Novoa as Checho, Gabo Lopez as Oso; Evaluna Montaner (daughter of the renowned singer-songwriter Ricardo Montaner) as Eva; Riccardo Frascari as JJ; Carolina Mestrovic as Vero; Laura Rosguer as Maca; Fefi Oliveira as Mercedes; Martin Barba as Aurek; Jorge Roguez as Rene; Luis Mayer as Xavier; Sebastian Silva as Ruben; Gael Sanchez as Cesar; Adriano Zendejas as Victor; Martina Lavignasse as Diana; Jesus Nasser as Fernando; Valeria Arena as Camila; Jonathan Quintana as Miguel; Santiago Bidart as Abel; and Frank Fernandez as Andrés.

Nickelodeon are working with the Montaner family and the Sony music label to produce the Club 57 soundtrack, which will feature 16 original songs.

In addition to being its 10th local production, Club 57 also marks Nickelodeon's most ambitious and biggest original production to date since they started work on Isa TKM in Venezuela a decade ago.

The show takes up two whole stages at Viacom International Studios (VIS), using more than 22,000 square meters of set design and featuring a regular cast of 22 actors. Tatiana Rodríguez, Senior Vice President (SVP) & Brand Head, Kids & Family of Nickelodeon Latinoamérica, sums it up: "For us this is a blockbuster."


"And what better way to celebrate this decade than with the biggest project we've done so far," Rodríguez added.

When Club 57 was picked up for a series by Nickelodeon, the show originally had 40 episodes, however, to give the script a greater depth, Nickelodeon rewrote the script a bit so that the protagonist was an immigrant from an Italian family in the 50s.



One of the great challenges was to locate the story to the 1950s. "For the kids of today, the '50s is something prehistoric, but we thought it was very fun to be inspired by the aesthetics of those years, but modernising the colours, and I think that a visually spectacular series came out," explained Rodríguez.


Cast of Noobees

The news follows Nickelodeon Latinoamérica greenlighting a second season of its popular eSports-themed drama series Noobees, in co-production with Mediapro. The news was announced at NATPE Miami 2019. Noobees season two is written by Argentine screenwriter Marcela Citterio, whose hits include Nickelodeon's tween/teen favs Yo Soy Franky and Chica Vampiro. The series will be shot on-set and on-location at Mediapro's production facility, Televideo in Bogota, and will feature images from Mediapro's Professional Videogames League (LVP), the biggest e-sports league in Spain and host of major online and offline tournaments for games such as League of Legends&Call of Duty, among others. A start date for production is yet to be announced.

Este 2019, el canal Nickelodeon Latinoamérica celebra diez años de producción original local en América Latina.

"Durante estos diez años producimos diez series originales", destaca a ttvnews Tatiana Rodríguez, SVP & Brand Head, Kids & Family de Nickelodeon Latinoamérica, máxima responsable de haber llevado con orgullo esta franja de ficción original en la región.

En este sentido, Nickelodeon alista para este año varias novedades entre las que se destaca el estreno de la serie musical Club 57 el próximo 6 de mayo en simultáneo en América Latina y Brasil.

Además, la serie será emitida por la cadena RAI en Italia.

"Club 57 es el proyecto más ambicioso desde que hace diez años empezamos con la producción original en Nickelodeon, con Isa TKM en Venezuela", explica Rodríguez. "Y qué mejor manera de celebrar esta década que con el proyecto más grande que hemos hecho hasta el momento".

La serie Club 57 (60x60’), que mezcla música y viajes en tiempo, es una coproducción con Rainbow Media de Italia.

"Llevábamos ya 40 capítulos escritos y cuando entraron reescribimos un poco para que el protagonista fuera un inmigrante de familia italiana en los 50, y esa reescritura ayudó a que el guion tuviera una mayor profundidad", comenta.

"Ha sido muy bella la experiencia de la coproducción porque todos los exteriores los hemos hecho en una maravillosa ciudad que se llama Martina Franca en Puglia, Italia", añade Rodríguez.

El cast panregional de la primera temporada cuenta con talento proveniente de países como Argentina, Colombia, México, Venezuela, y por supuesto, Italia. Su protagonista es Eva Luna Montaner, hija del reconocido cantautor Ricardo Montaner.

Por el lado de la idea original, uno de los grandes retos que se tuvo fue el de ubicar la historia en la década de 1950. "Para los chicos de hoy, los años 50 es algo prehistórico, pero nos pareció que era muy divertido poder inspirarnos en la estética de aquellos años, pero modernizándolos los colores, y creo que salió una serie visualmente espectacular", asegura.

Set de Club 57 en los Viacom International Studios
