Nickelodeon’s new original TV movie, Bixler High Private Eye, starring Jace Norman (Henry Danger) and multihyphenate actress, singer and author Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is set to premiere on YTV in Canada on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 6:00pm (ET/PT), as part of the channel's Big Fun Movies programming block! The live-action comedy follows Xander DeWitt (Norman), an inquisitive teenager who has a knack for solving mysteries, as he tackles his biggest case yet when his father suddenly disappears.

In Bixler High Private Eye, Xander’s sleuthing skills get put to the test when his dad, Russell, leaves for work one day and vanishes without a trace. Frustrated by his attempts to find his dad, Xander’s mom sends him to go live with his grandfather (Ed Begley Jr.), a retired private investigator. It’s in his dad’s hometown that Xander finds a surprising lead in the case and builds an unexpected partnership with Kenzie Messina (Ariel Martin), an investigative reporter for the school newspaper.


Bixler High Private Eye marks Norman’s fifth starring role in a Nickelodeon TV movie, and his first as an executive producer. He currently stars in Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger, the number-one live-action show on TV with Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11, and the network’s longest-running live-action sitcom. Norman is also the co-founder of Creator Edge Media, an influencer marketing agency.

Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is an award-winning actress, singer, entrepreneur and author who has catapulted into mainstream media. She has captured an audience of over 40 million across all her social media platforms, and over 282 million views on her YouTube videos alone. Most recently, Martin released her debut book, “Dreaming Out Loud,” as well as her fourth single, “8 Letter,” in October 2018.

Bixler High Private Eye is executive produced by Jace Norman, Scott Norman, Rene Rigal (Immortals, 21 & Over) and Tobin Armbrust (Dark Places, Snitch), and is produced by Greg Sills (Grease Live!, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards). The TV movie was written by Christopher Baldi (Jim Henson's Turkey Hollow) and Danny Kallis (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) & Michele Wolff (Ella Enchanted), and is directed by Leslie Kolins Small (Stuck in the Middle).

Bixler High Private Eye will make its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Monday, January 21, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT). Following its U.S. launch, the series will roll out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks throughout 2019.

Viacom Weighs Majority Stake Sale of China Operations

Media giant Viacom Inc. is in talks to sell a majority stake in some of its China operations after running into difficulties trying to scale its business in the world’s second-largest economy, according to people familiar with the matter, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Viacom, which owns children’s entertainment network Nickelodeon, film studio Paramount Pictures, and music network MTV has operated in China for more than two decades. The New York-based company in the last few months has had discussions about a stake sale with at least one Chinese entity, the people said, adding that a deal may or may not materialize.

The talks follow similar divestments by large U.S. corporations including McDonald’s Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. in recent years. Other large multinational companies that have operated in China for years are also considering stake sales or even complete exits from their businesses in the country, according to investment bankers and advisers.

In the early 2000s, China was the land of opportunity for virtually every major multinational company. Banks and consulting firms raked in big fees coaching American companies on how to enter the country. Now, many are advising companies on how to exit or restructure their operations. Investment bankers at Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and some boutique firms in Asia are spending more time talking to companies rethinking their China strategies.

The Viacom talks have involved the potential sale of a majority share in its channel brands, such as Nickelodeon and MTV, in China, an arrangement similar to the company’s joint venture with Reliance Industries Ltd. in India. Viacom sold Reliance the majority stake in the venture last year.

Selling a controlling stake in its China business to a domestic investor could help Viacom reduce its potential regulatory risk in the country at a time of high trade and political tensions between Beijing and Washington, while still allowing it to profit.

Companies are finding they need to restructure as the promise of turbocharged Chinese growth dissipates, said Brent Carlson of consulting firm AlixPartners. Growth remains robust by global standards, and for many firms China is too big to ignore. But it can also be brutally competitive and fraught with regulatory hurdles. China’s trade conflict with the U.S. is also threatening to crimp American companies’ growth prospects in the country.

AlixPartners helped bring many companies to China over the past two decades. Now, Mr. Carlson said he has transformed his business to advise companies on pruning their operations.

Lian Lian, co-head of mergers and acquisitions for North Asia at JPMorgan, said the rise of dominant homegrown players, slowing economic growth in China and the development of e-commerce are prompting more multinational companies to assess their Chinese strategies.

She recently helped advise Dutch beer giant Heineken NV on selling its China business to the country’s largest brewer and taking a one-fifth stake in the buyer, China Resources Beer Holdings Co. China is the world’s largest beer market by volume, but Heineken had struggled to expand on its own despite having a business there since the 1980s.

Some foreign companies are concerned that a Chinese call for nationalism could dent their prospects. When McDonald’s in 2017 sold an 80% stake in its China operations to state-owned Citic Ltd. and U.S. private-equity firm Carlyle Group LP, the restaurant chain was shifting to a so-called asset-light structure to reduce its ownership of physical outlets. One consideration in the deal was the reputational risk of operating a U.S. company in China and the potential for negative consumer sentiment to affect its business, according to people familiar with the matter.

Industry participants say companies currently active in high-demand China sectors, such as semiconductor chips and other high technologies, could become obsolete as China builds out its own capabilities.

In the pharmaceutical industry, some companies that entered China on the back of a national reform policy to bring foreign expertise to the sector were crowded out of the market during the next round of policy changes. Among them was Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health Inc., which in 2018 sold its Chinese pharmaceutical and medical-products distribution business for more than $1 billion to a local rival after facing challenges scaling up in the country.

Many large corporations are still growing and making money in China. The top 20 U.S. companies in the S&P 500 with the most sales in China reported $158.4 billion in China sales in 2017, according to The Wall Street Journal calculations, a figure that surpasses the $129.9 billion in goods China imports from the U.S. And in certain industries where regulations have been rolled back—such as financial services and automobiles—U.S. and foreign companies are still trying to expand in China, bankers and advisers say.

Viacom has long wanted to ramp up its presence in China. Since the mid-1990s, MTV has had a 24-hour Mandarin channel that features Chinese and international music, and in 2005 Viacom became the first foreign media company to take a 49% stake in a Chinese media company when Nickelodeon formed a joint venture with state-owned Shanghai Media Group to produce and broadcast children’s programs in the country. That deal has since lapsed.

Viacom executives for years spoke publicly about the immense growth opportunities presented by the country’s giant population, but tight regulations—such as government-imposed quotas on film distribution and foreign media companies’ access to broadcast television networks—have limited Viacom’s ability to expand. Paramount Pictures has been limited in the number and types of movies it can distribute on the mainland, though the company has achieved Chinese box office successes with films including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers: Age of Extinction in recent years.

More recently, Viacom has struck deals to distribute music videos and TV shows on iQiyi Inc., an online-video platform controlled by search giant Baidu Inc. Viacom is also working with local organizations to build two Nickelodeon attractions in Chinese cities that will feature cartoon characters including SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer - the Nickelodeon Cultural Resort in Foshan and a Nickelodeon theme park in the Mall of China.

Nicktoons UK & Ireland, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland's top-rated animation and action channel, will start to premiere and show the second season of Nickelodeon's popular animated series Welcome to the Wayne weekdays at 12:00pm from Monday 4th February 2019! Following each episodes debut, Nicktoons will encore each brand-new episode the same day at 8:30pm. Wassome!

A New York City apartment building holds mysteries and adventures behind every door in Welcome to the Wayne. Created and written by Emmy® Award-winning writer and composer Billy Lopez (The Wonder Pets) and executive produced by Emmy Award-winning creative executive Michael Pecoriello (Yu-Gi-Oh!), the 20-episode series follows three kids as they explore their strange and fantastical apartment building, the Wayne, where nothing is what it seems.

Welcome to the Wayne follows the comedic adventures of three friends, Ansi Molina, Olly Timbers, and Saraline Timbers, as they aim to unlock the secrets of the Wayne. Each new investigation brings them face-to-face with new characters, creatures, and oddities, known as “Wayne Phenomena,” leading them closer to uncovering the truth about the weird things happening in their building.

The voice cast of Welcome to the Wayne includes: Alanna Ubach (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce) as Ansi, the anxious new kid in town; creator and co-executive producer Billy Lopez as Olly Timbers, the adventurous 10-year-old son of a toy maker and a military scientist, and lifelong resident of the Wayne; and Dana Steingold (Avenue Q musical) as Saraline Timbers, Olly’s responsible and more mature little sister.

Additional voice cast members include: Veronica Taylor (Pokémon) as The Spy from Apartment 8-I; Marc Thompson (Pokémon) as Masterson; and Robbie Sublett (The Good Wife) as Flowershirt; Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) as George the Doorman; Dana Snyder (The Thundermans) as Wendell Wasserman; Nikki M. Before the full-length series, Welcome to the Wayne was Nickelodeon’s first digital short-form series, which debuted on official Nickelodeon websites and the Nick Play app in select markets, including on nick.co.uk and nicktoons.co.uk.

Billy Lopez is an Emmy-winning writer and composer from New York City. He has written for shows including Phineas and Ferb and South Park and been head writer on several preschool shows, including The Wonder Pets!, 3rd & Bird! and PBS’s Peg + Cat. Lopez also co-created an adult sitcom for ABC Studios. Michael Pecoriello is an Emmy Award-winning creative leader. He has overseen campaigns for Nickelodeon tent poles Kids’ Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Sports and the HALO Awards and also served as supervising producer and head writer on animated series Yu-Gi-Oh!

Nickelodeon's new animated preschool series, Butterbean’s Café

Preschoolers will be whisked away on magical culinary adventures in Nickelodeon’s brand-new CG-animated series, Butterbean’s Café, premiering Monday 4th February 2019 at 4:30pm on Nick Jr. UK and Ireland! Following launch, new episodes of Butterbean’s Café will air regularly weekdays at 4:30pm, with each episode replayed the following weekday at 7:00am and 12:00pm, and at various times during the weekend on Nick Jr. UK & Eire.

Created by Robert Scull and Jonny Belt (Bubble Guppies), Butterbean’s Café, the series (40 episodes) centers on a fairy named Butterbean and her adventures running her neighborhood café and bakery, and showcases creative cooking and features a curriculum with social-emotional lessons that highlight kindness and gratitude, and leadership skills.

In the series, Butterbean, her fairy friends--Dazzle, Poppy and Jasper --and her little sister Cricket take pride in serving up healthy snacks and sweet treats to the residents in their community of Puddlebrook. Butterbean’s special magic beans, the fairies’ enchanted kitchen tools and the team’s can-do spirit all combine to make their cafe the most awesome eatery in town.



In Butterbean’s Café’s series premiere, “The Grand Opening!,” Butterbean and her friends work together to make the opening of the café a success, while competing café owner Ms. Marmalady (voiced by Alysia Reiner of Orange Is the New Black) attempts to throw them off track.

Butterbean’s Café made its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Monday 12th November 2018, and will be rolling out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks throughout 2019.

It has been announced that Hasbro, the master toy partner for Top Wing, will commence a roll-out of plush, vehicles, gadgets and figures inspired by Nickelodeon's hit CG-animated preschool series from March 2019! Additional licensee deals have also been confirmed across the UK, spanning new categories and lines to create even more opportunities for fans of action, adventure and comedy. The captivating product ranges will enable preschoolers to join the Top Wing team and go on action-packed rescue missions of their own, which figures, mission-ready vehicles, play sets and plush toys inspired by the characters and adventures on the show. Sambro also plans to launch a Top Wing toy collection during autumn/winter 2019.

Publishing and home entertainment products will be the first to launch in 2019, ahead of the season two launch in the autumn. Accessories will hit the shelves in 2020.

Nick Jr. UK Premieres 'Tot Cop'

Nick Jr. UK and Ireland will premiere the brand-new 2D-animated preschool series Tot Cop on Monday 7th January 2019 at 7:15am on Nick Jr. Too! Following its debut, Nick Jr. Too will continue to air brand-new episodes of Tot Cop weekdays at 7:15am, with each episode encoring the following morning at 3:50am on Nick Jr. Nick Jr. Too will also replay the series weekend mornings at 7:15am.


Not much is currently known about Tot Cop, however, it is thought that it is based on the Trufax: Tot Cop, an animated short created by Jason and Méabh Tammemägi and produced by the Dublin-based children’s media company Mooshku as part of the 2015 edition of the world-renowned Nickelodeon Shorts Program. Viacom International Inc. registered the series title as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) under the Education and Entertainment Services category in December 2017, with an extension for the trademark granted in November 2018.

Nickelodeon Brazil to Premiere 'Noobees' on Monday 4th February 2019; Announces Immersive 'Noobees' Truck

Update (7/1): Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) will premiere Noobees on Monday 4th February 2019 at 19h!

To celebrate the upcoming premiere of Noobees, Nickelodeon Latin America's (Latinoamérica) hit scripted eSports-themed series, in February 2019, Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) has partnered with Outra Praia to launch a interactive Noobees-themed truck, which will take viewers into the world of Noobees!


Fans will be able to visit the Noobees truck in Santos, São Paulo every weekend between 11am - 7pm from Friday 4th - Friday 18th January 2019. At the van, fans will find fun and interactive activities that will immerse them into the series. Among the highlights will be three gaming consoles in which pairs of fans can teleport right into "Rocket League", the game featured in the series, by using a special jacket, in which they can also have their photos taken with. At the end of the game, participants will receive an exclusive Noobees temporary tattoo to prove that their the real winners. The truck will seat six fans at a time.

Noobees is a brand-new series that takes viewers inside the high-stakes world of eSports. The show follows of a group of teenage gamers who have the opportunity to live out their biggest dream, participating in the eSports Championship, creating “Noobees”, an eSports team that will compete to win the Professional Video Games League.

N00Bees, whose title denotes a person who is new at playing an online game and/or is bad at it, follows Silvia, her brother Erick and their friends Tania, Pablo and Niko. Silvia has never been interested in video games. She has always preferred the outdoors and playing her favorite sport, basketball. She is the opposite of her father, Hector, and her brother - who, for them, video games are everything! When Erick is presented with the unique opportunity of participating in the E-Sports Championship, his greatest dream, Silvia does everything possible to help him achieve it, even if it means becoming a professional gamer herself. Silvia and Erick, along with their friends, create N00Bees - an E-sports team that will compete for the title at the Professional Video Games League. But this task will not be easy. Besides dealing with all the usual problems associated with growing up, Silvia will have to learn how to play video games while competing against David, the best player in the region and with whom she'll fall in love with. What nobody knows is that something will happen to Silvia that will make her gain some incredible powers allowing her to control the way she plays videogames, and this will be epic! All this will unleash all kinds of adventures and moments that fans CANNOT miss!

Created by Enrique Pérez (Flipy) from Mediapro Group’s production company 100Balas, and produced by Viacom International Studios (VIS) and 100 Balas, N00bees is the Nickelodeon's first-ever gaming series, and brings fans closer to the very real world of eSports, a mass phenomenon among young people. The series, directed by William Barragán, reproduces the atmosphere of big games, the finals, and competition among the teams, including spectacular images from the Liga de Videojuegos Profesional (Professional Videogames League (LVP)), the biggest e-sports league in Spain and the host of major online and offline tournaments for such hit games as “League of Legends” and “Call of Duty.”

The show began filming in Televideo, MEDIAPRO’s production studio in Bogotá, Colombia in May 2018, and made its world debut on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica in September 2018. The series, featuring 60 1-hour episodes, will also run on the free-to-air (FTA) network RCN in Colombia. The Spanish language series will also be adapted to Portuguese for Nick viewers in Brazil (Brasil).

MEDIAPRO Colombia’s experience includes productions such as Chica Vampiro (Vampire Girl) which currently stands as the Nickelodeon favorite among viewers aged 4 to 12, bringing in an average of over 648,000 viewers.

The Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) brand PR team is part of a newly crafted cross brand creative, media and social hub. Its aim is to become the best consumer comms team in the media industry dedicated to delivering innovative, creative and news-agenda driving communications strategies that leverage all platforms across Viacom's consumer brands including Nickelodeon, Channel 5, Comedy Central and MTV.

The Role: Junior Publicist: Nickelodeon (23 month fixed-term contract)

The brand PR team has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Junior Publicist to join Nickelodeon, the brand where kids rule! Nickelodeon is the number one commercial kids network in the UK, with its main channels comprising Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Nicktoons. The channels are available in over 13 million cable and satellite homes and now reach more than 10 million viewers a month.

Nickelodeon is home of SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, PAW Patrol, Nella the Princess Knight and the messiest music festival for kids, SLIMEFEST!

Nickelodeon also produces bespoke content available online and on Nick Play, as well as consumer product and recreation opportunities such as the UK’s first-ever branded theme park, Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Overview

The Junior Publicist is responsible for supporting communications campaigns across the Nickelodeon channels. The main focus of the role is to support the Brand PR team in executing high-impact tactics that support the strategic objectives of the channels, aiming to generate targeted features that significantly raise the profile of the network in UK media.

Reporting into the Nickelodeon Senior Publicist, the successful candidate will support initiatives to drive consumer awareness for its channels and properties as well as support high profile events including Nickelodeon’s SLIMEFEST at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and a brand new London-based summer event - Nickelodeon Big Base Camp. The role is very hands on and wide-ranging and may require support in everything from picture and synopsis requests to press releases, competitions and event organisation.

Key Responsibilities

- Compiling and sending out weekly programming highlights

- Gathering and distributing weekly internal highlights

- Approving activity pages in the kids’ media and selling in new pre-school shows for coverage

- Selling in stories to kids, regional and entertainment press

- Securing coverage for new shows in key kids and entertainment press (including listings)

- Uploading approved press releases to the Viacom website

- Managing all picture, synopsis and asset requests from press

- Drafting press releases for specific launches

- Updating the master contacts list

- Monitor coverage and distribute to relevant business areas

- Organising and fulfilling competitions and promotions

- Support press team in event organisation including sending invites, tracking rsvps, booking travel and helping with hosting at events

- To administrate department budget, raising purchase orders, keeping track of invoices and updating cost tracker spreadsheet
Tracking media coverage, updating the tracker and sharing with appropriate team members

The Ideal Candidate

- At least a year’s PR experience (in house or agency) ideally in entertainment

- An excellent multi-tasker with the ability to work under pressure when required

- A genuine interest in kids and youth

- Strong writing skills

- A passion for media and good understanding of UK media landscape

- Excellent organisational skills

- Willingness to be hands-on – including admin duties

- Enthusiasm and sense of humour!

- A positive, can-do attitude
