In the series premiere, we find the Funnie family have moved from Bloatsburg and are just arriving at their new home in the town of Bluffington. 11-year-old Doug Funnie writes his thoughts in his journal and worries he won't be able to make any friends. On a search to find food for his Mom (Theda), Dad (Phil) and sister (Judy), Doug meets his next door neighbour Mr. Dink. He shows Doug a video about Bluffington and introduces him to the popular hangout fast food restaurant called The Honker Burger. When Doug gets to the hangout, he meets Skeeter Valentine who befriends him right away. Doug also meets Patti Mayonnaise and right away, has a secret crush on her. However, all is not well when he also meets the local bully Roger Klotz who tricks Doug into believing he has to catch a monster called a Neematoad at Stinsen's Pond to be a town hero.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? 101 - The Tale of the Pantom Cab | HD - Full Episode


Two brothers, Buzz and Denny, get lost in the woods while hiking. As night falls, they are directed by a stranger to a cabin where they might seek help from old Dr. Vink. The strange Dr. Vink poses a riddle to them which they must solve before he will let them phone their parents. The boys cannot solve it and he throws them out into the forest. The boys panic as they are left in the woods alone under Dr. Vink's curse. Their only hope is the Phantom Cab. .

A group of kids get together in the woods, and tell ghost stories. Both series of Are You Afraid of the Dark? revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as "The Midnight Society." Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the group. The actual story, rather than the telling, was displayed to the television viewer. The story was shown between the group's arrival at the site and their departure. Each storyteller would begin their story by saying "Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story..." at which point he or she would toss a handful of "midnight dust" from a leather pouch into a campfire to heighten the flames and produce an eerie white smoke.

One of the more significant recurring characters was Sardo (Richard Dumont), owner of "Sardo's Magic Mansion" (a magic shop). He would often attempt to sell a character a "prized" item, succeeding almost every single time. He often had items in his shop that contained real properties of magic, yet did not know until it was revealed in the story. One of the most memorable recurring jokes in the series occurred when someone would address him as "Mr. Sardo." He would then get irritated and exclaim: "That's SarDO! No mister; accent on the doh!" Another recurring line was: "Have you seen our vomit?" Additionally, when selling someone an item, he would often ask a rather high price. The main character would mention how much money they had, and Sardo would grab the money saying, "But I'm losing on the deal." Although he rarely got what he wanted, he would often end up helping the characters, often unintentionally. He appeared in Gary's stories, although in the later seasons, he appeared in two of Tucker's and one of David's in the episode "The Tale Of The Dark Dragon."

Another recurring character was Dr. Vink (Aron Tager). He was a physically imposing man who would often appear as a mad scientist, sorcerer, and the like. When he enters, he introduces himself by saying, "Vink's the name. Dr. Vink." He would also get his name mispronounced, usually something like "Dr. Fink?" When this happened, he would respond "Vink. With a va-va-va!" Often, the protagonist would call him a "nutbag" behind his back, assuming he could not hear him, only to have him reply later, "...and I am not a nutbag." Unlike Sardo whose character was set in a magic shop, Dr. Vink had many 'unique endeavors' as he called them, for his stories. These ranged from living deep in the woods conducting strange nature experiments, being a retired filmmaker, owning his own restaurant as head chef and lastly a barbershop. His activities were usually villainous and designed to put the characters in peril and allow him the last laugh. However, in his last appearance, "The Tale of Cutter's Treasure" (which was told by both Frank and Gary), he allied himself with Sardo and the main characters without his usual maliciousness. He appeared in Frank's stories. Aron Tager also played the carnival worker who stands in front of the Funhouse and invites people to go inside in the episode "The Tale of the Laughing in the Dark."

The character of Zeebo the Clown, also played by Tager, who appeared in "The Tale of the Laughing in the Dark" is referenced in several other stories, for example, in the episode "The Tale of the Whispering Walls," two children mention seeing him at a fun park, in the episode "The Tale of the Mystical Mirror", a girl says she will look like Zeebo if she wears too much lipstick, and in the episode "The Tale of the Crimson Clown" in the boys' room a video game called Zeebo's Big House can be seen on the desk with a picture of Zeebo on it as the title character. The video game was also mentioned in the episode "The Tale of Train Magic." Finally, in the episode "The Tale of the Night Shift," the teenage janitor is called Zeebo by his supervisor a few times at the beginning of the episode.

The villain, the "Ghastly Grinner" (star of "The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner"), like Zeebo the Clown, appears in a comic book that "Dark" characters read. In "Tale of the Ghastly Grinner", The Grinner is shown as being the star of a comic book.

Christian Tessier who appeared in "Laughing in The Dark" (1992) also appeared in "The Curious Camera" (1994).

Danny Phantom, the second Nicktoon created by Butch Hartman, premiered on April 3, 2004 and ran for 53 episodes over three seasons. It spawned two video games, Danny Phantom: The Ultimate Enemy and Danny Phantom: Urban Jungle, plus appearances in over a dozen more. Most recently, Danny Phantom made a appearance in Butch Hartman's original Nickelodeon short, The Fairly Odd Phantom in February 2017.

NEW YORK–Nov. 15, 2019–Nickelodeon star and YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa, breakout pop group Why Don’t We, Grammy® Award-nominated multiplatinum artist French Montana, and viral chart-topper Blanco Brown will take the stage at Nickelodeon SlimeFest, as the two-day family-friendly music festival makes its west coast debut on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Consumers who subscribe to the Nickelodeon SlimeFest email newsletter at www.nickslimefest.com will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Monday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. (PT) and tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. (PT).


Previously held in Chicago, Ill., this year’s Nickelodeon SlimeFest will feature a VIP ticket that includes access to a special performance viewing area, plus admission to Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2020, which will be broadcast live from the Forum on Sunday, March 22, at 7:30-9 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast). Additionally, Nickelodeon SlimeFest will showcase one-of-a-kind experiences for the entire family featuring the network’s signature green slime. Update (2/7) - Singer, ventriloquist and 2017 America's Got Talent champion Darci Lynne Farmer will be performing at SlimeFest 2020! The news was announced on today's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show! To celebrate, the star gave away four tickets to the event, two of which went to the "love bomb" couple!

The Oklahoma teenager brought her rabbit puppet Petunia along for the interview, and the bunny diva quickly beguiled Clarkson with her spotlight-stealing ways.

As previously reported, Darci Lynne is continuing to criss-cross the country on her "2020 Fresh Out of the Box Tour," and she told Clarkson she has traveled to 46 states so far.

Nickelodeon is pushing back the date of its annual Kids’ Choice Awards, joining the growing list of live events, conventions and conferences that are being canceled or postponed amid a global pandemic that has seen over 1,200 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, in the U.S.

“The Kids’ Choice Awards scheduled for March 22, 2020, in Los Angeles is being postponed in consideration of the safety and well-being of every person involved with the show, which is our top priority,” said a Nickelodeon spokesperson. “We will have further information about a new date in the future.”

Update (4/2) - Nickelodeon Universe and Mall of America will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17 at 5 p.m. through at least March 31. We understand that this decision impacts countless visitors – including families who may have planned their vacation here – as well as other tenants, the surrounding hotels and hospitality industry, and most importantly all of our employees.

The decision to shutter the nation’s largest indoor theme park comes after management of the Bloomington mega-mall held a webinar Monday with tenants on the plan.

- Online ticket orders that have not been picked up will be valid for pickup anytime within 12 months after Nickelodeon Universe reopens.

- Wristbands you currently have that are marked “valid date of first use” and have not been used will be valid anytime once Nickelodeon Universe reopens.

- Annual passes valid during the closure will be extended the number of days that Nickelodeon Universe is closed. Guests will still receive their full year of value.

- Point passes never expire and any remaining points will be valid any time after Nickelodeon Universe reopens.

- Guests who have purchased multi-day wristbands and attraction bundles and have partially used them can present the ticket at their next visit after Nickelodeon Universe reopens to receive a replacement ticket containing the full value of the ticket.

- For general questions and concerns, please call 952-883-8800. To request a refund or an extension of tickets, please call 952-883-8553 and leave a detailed voicemail; calls will be returned within 72 hours.

Nickelodeon has announced that the recording of Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz, Nickelodeon GSA's localised version of Nickelodeon's 2020 Kids' Choice Awards, on Thursday 9th April 2020 has been cancelled. Due to the COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) outbreak, Nickelodeon's number-one priority is the safety of their guests, and they've taken this decision as a precaution, following the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and local authorities. Of course, this decision was not easy for Nick.

Nickelodeon promises fans that they are currently doing their best to ensure that a safe, beautiful show production can take place on a smaller scale in the future. What exactly this show will look like will be announced in the following weeks.

If you have purchased tickets for Nickelodeon Kids‘ Choice Awards: Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz online via the ticket shop or via the guest service using your telephone number or e-mail address, you will be eligible for a refund. We are actively continuing to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation within the UK and the local area, and we can assure you that we are taking every necessary step to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff and characters. What have we done?

Our cleaning schedules have been updated and increased, especially in high traffic areas, indoor areas and touch points. We have plenty of hand sanitiser and hand washing facilities across the site, so please use them regularly. All our staff, in all departments, are washing their hands more regularly and understand the importance of not coming to work if they show any symptoms. We are eliminating self-service items wherever possible in our catering and retail outlets. We are displaying NHS and Government backed hand washing and advice posters around the attraction

What can you do?

We need your help to ensure we can continue to offer a safe environment. If you are planning to visit and you are displaying ANY of the Coronavirus symptoms (recently started persistent cough, fever or breathlessness) we would ask you not to visit please. Please ensure you continue to observe increased hygiene practices while visiting the attraction. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) if you cough or sneeze and put any tissues in a bin immediately. Avoiding touching your face or eyes if you haven’t washed your hands recently. If you feel in any way unwell during your visit please contact a member of staff immediately and, where possible, maintain a safe distance of two metres.

PAW Patrol: Adventure Play exhibit at the Glazer Children’s Museum in Tampa, Florida

Tampa, FL - Based on the most current information from public health officials, and in support of community efforts to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), The Glazer Children’s Museum, Tampa Museum of Art, Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), Henry B. Plant Museum and The Florida Aquarium will temporarily close to the public beginning Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 29.

There have been no known incidents of COVID-19 at the five museums and today’s collective action is voluntary.

“We recognize the importance of working together to ensure the well-being of our community remains a priority,” said Michael Tomor, Penny and Jeff Vinik Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art.

"Our organizations are still a resource to you even while our buildings are closed. Many of us have online materials, activities, and more to keep you connected during these two weeks,” said Sarah Cole, President and CEO of the Glazer Children’s Museum.

“The ability to support one’s community extends well beyond the exhibit path, classrooms and outreach programs,” said Julian Mackenzie, President and CEO of MOSI. “Being able to work together with other venues shows us what a great community of cultural attractions we have here in Tampa.”

“We recognize that our world-class organizations serve an important role by providing inspiration and inquiry, as well as providing an escape from daily challenges, however, this is an unprecedented event and the temporary closures place the health and well-being of our greater community first,” said Roger Germann, President and CEO of The Florida Aquarium.

"Prior to the coronavirus, the most serious pandemic in the US took place in the late Victorian era. "We as museum boards are taking the necessary precautions we need to keep our community safe and keep our citizens healthy. We deeply care for the families we serve, who remain our top priority as a member of the arts community," said Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman.

Commissioner Murman is the current chair of the board at The Glazer Children's Museum and serves as a trustee for The Florida Aquarium and The Tampa Museum of Art.

Staff at all five cultural attractions will be paid their full compensation per their regular work schedule for the two-week period.

This will mean the season will end 2 weeks earlier than the scheduled date of 29 March 2020.

At Village Roadshow Theme Parks, the safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is our utmost priority.

Government Update:
The Prime Minister and Chief Medical Officer have provided information regarding Australia's response to COVID-19 which includes the suspension of static, seated events of more than 500 people for a sustained period of time.

This advisory does not apply to Village Roadshow Theme Parks properties as we are predominantly an outdoor experience, which is not static.

At the advice of the Government, we will continue to operate Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild, Paradise Country, Topgolf and Sea World Resort as normal. Australian Outback Spectacular will operate at a reduced capacity in-line with Government recommendations.

There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at our venues.

Guest Safety & Our Protection Measures

The parks will continue to operate with additional stringent hygiene and safety measures in-place. We have and will continue to, undertake rigorous hygiene standards, cleaning procedures and health and safety standards including:

• A large and experienced cleaning department of over 170 Team Members
• Updated signage on best hand washing techniques and practices
• Reinforced vigilance in hand washing throughout our properties
• On-site first-aid facilities with registered nurses with an isolation procedure in-place
• An increased number of hygiene hand washing stations
• Activating Safety Alert Bulletins issued by Queensland Health
• Displaying the latest Safety Alerts for guests to keep up to date
• Close working relationships with emergency services

In addition to the above, to further strengthen our rigorous hygiene standards, we are putting plans in place to:

• Conduct additional cleaning of rides and attractions including ride harness wipe downs
• Provide updated additional hygiene signage in-park

The second annual Nickelodeon Treasure Hunt Malta, which was set to take place over the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th April 2020, with activities inspired by popular Nickelodeon shows and characters taking place across the island, has now been cancelled.

Although currently unconfirmed, it seems like Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana has temporarily closed its doors. On Instagram, the Nickelodeon-branded hotel and resort said: "We miss all of our #NickResortPuntaCana guests! Sending nothing but good vibes to everyone during this strange time. What's the first thing you plan on doing when you get your vacation back?"

Notice from Village Roadshow Theme Parks (VRTP):

Following recent Government announcements, and the increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases both nationally and on the Gold Coast, the decision has been made to temporarily close Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World [home of Nickelodeon Land], Wet’n’Wild, Paradise Country and Topgolf from close of business on Sunday 22 March. We will provide a further update on these operations on 31 March.

Australian Outback Spectacular is also temporarily closed and more information can be found here.

At this stage, Sea World Resort and Village Roadshow Studios will continue to operate. VRTP will continuously review the situation and be guided by the Queensland Hotel Association and appropriate levels of Government.

This is an extremely challenging time and this is not a decision which was made lightly. As a result of this closure, unfortunately many team members have been temporarily stood-down. Senior Executives salaries have also been reduced.

The decision has been made to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of the business, and most importantly to secure future jobs for our team members.

Milkshake! Monkey’s Musical is a Brand New all singing, all dancing preschool musical extravaganza. Starring Channel 5’s iconic Milkshake! Monkey, from acclaimed kids’ TV writer Miranda Larson, and set to tour theatres nationwide from 16th February 2019.

Milkshake! Monkey can’t wait to put on a spectacular new musical for you all! But when stage fright hits, his favourite Milkshake! friends come to help, creating the most dazzling Milkshake! show families will ever see!

Starring alongside the much-loved Milkshake! Monkey will be two-channel presenters as well as Fireman Sam, Noddy, Shimmer & Shine, Digby Dragon, Wissper, Nella the Princess Knight and Floogals.

This April, Nickelodeon Poland (Polska) will be treating viewers stuck at home with lots of marathons featuring their favourite Nick shows!


Viewers can tune in to Nick weekdays from 16:15 to catch mini-marathons of popular Nick shows, including ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks (Alvin i wiewiórki), The Loud House (Harmidom) and Just Add Magic (Dodaj Magii)! Each week will be dedicated to a different show.

Additionally, to celebrate the Easter (Wielkanoc) holiday weekend (April 11-13), Nickelodeon has lined up full day marathons of fan-favourite Nick shows, including: SpongeBob SquarePants (SpongeBob Kanciastoporty), Nicky, Ricki, Dicky & Dawn (Nicky, Ricki, Dicky i Dawn) and Victorious (Victoria znaczy zwycięstwo)!

Later on in the month, on Saturday 25th April 2020 at 17:50, viewers can tune into to Nick for "The Best of KCA" special, which looks back at the slimiest moments from Kids' Choice Awards history!

Meanwhile, Paramount Channel HD Polska will be transporting viewers to Central Park Zoo in New York City with marathons of Penguins of Madagascar (Pingwiny z Madagaskaru) airing everyday between 09:00-12:00 (noon).

Plus, Paramount Channel HD will be airing movies without any ad-breaks everyday from 13:30! Viewers will be able to watch the best blockbusters without any commercial breaks. The schedule will include family films and comedies, as well as classics of world cinema.

NICKELODEON BRINGS #KIDSTOGETHER TO SOUTH AFRICAN HOUSEHOLDS


Johannesburg, 01 April 2020: Nickelodeon has recently launched its #KidsTogether campaign– a global multiplatform prosocial initiative that uses the brand’s most popular characters and talent to engage with kids and families. The campaign provides tips for staying healthy and suggests ideas for fun family activities.

A #KidsTogether hour-long exclusive special was broadcast on Nickelodeon’s U.S. YouTube channel on Monday 30th April 2020 and was livestreamed on Thursday 2nd April 2020 at 16:00 pm CAT on Nickelodeon’s Facebook page in Africa. The show is aimed at offering a kid’s-eye view of life today amid COVID-19. The show was hosted by actress Kristen Bell (The Good Place, Frozen, Veronica Mars) and feature performances by Alicia Keys.

Additionally, kids’ questions and concerns were addressed on the show as well as tips and insights from medical experts. These include ways to be healthy by providing different ways on how families around the globe can use social distancing to improve and advance their everyday lives as well as relationships.

“The global #KidsTogether initiative is intended to communicate to kids and parents by providing appropriate kid-directed information using our well-known and best loved characters across all types of screens that kids engage with,” says Monde Twala, Senior Vice President (SVP) & General Manager (GM), ViacomCBS Networks Africa.

Nickelodeon USA Sees Ratings Uptick During Coronavirus Outbreak

Nickelodeon has seen a ratings uptick during the coronavirus outbreak with more people hunkering down at home. Since this past Friday (March 13), Nickelodeon’s portfolio of linear networks have been up 16% with Kids 2-11 compared to the prior four weeks. On Monday, ratings surged 36% over the last four weeks’ average, and were up 15% compared to the same time period last year. Nickelodeon itself has been up 18% compared to the last four weeks, also driven by Monday’s strong rise. Ratings for that day were up 27% over the recent average, and +11% compared to last year.



Oddly, children's channels in Poland, including Nickelodeon, have not yet seen a ratings increase, even though schools in the country have been closed due to the viral outbreak.

TV Ratings Climb As People Rediscover Live Linear Viewing Amid Coronavirus-Imposed Stay At Home

March 8 marked the start of Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Normally, the switch is associated with a Live+Same Day ratings slump for the broadcast networks, especially in the 8 PM hour, as people stay outside longer.

But this year, the week of March 8 marked the turning point in the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., when the threat became real as new cases in the country started skyrocketing and the World Health Organization declaring it a global pandemic. By the end of last week, most companies had instituted work-from-home guidelines, many schools were closed, and restaurants, movie theaters and gyms started to shut down.

As a result of people following the new “social distancing” guidelines and spending more time at home, the typical Daylight Saving Time slump was nonexistent this year. What’s more, broadcast networks have been posting across-the-board, week-to-week, Live+SD ratings increases the likes of which we had not seen in ages, and which had been considered a thing of the past amid the proliferation of streaming.

This past Monday, NBC’s The Voice, an 8 PM show, leaped a whopping 38% (five tenths of a rating point) week-to-week among adults 18-49 (1.8 vs. 1.3) and 1.1 million total viewers (9.67 million vs. 8.73 million) to deliver the highest-rated and most watched Monday or Tuesday edition of the singing competition in a year.

Last night, NBC’s Ellen’s Game of Games, also a 8 PM program, climbed 44% (four tenths) in the demo and added 1.6 million viewers for its best L+SD marks in more than a year. The network’s This Is Us rose three tenths in the demo on Tuesday, while CBS’ Bull and Bob Hearts Abishola posted season highs Monday.

Streaming had been tipped as a major beneficiary of the current mandate for staying home, but viewers — and many of them younger — are also checking out traditional TV.

Primetime PUT (People Using Television) levels among total viewers were up every day last week, with strong week-to-week gains on both Saturday and Sunday night. Monday’s HUTs (Households Using Television) levels were the highest for a Monday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 13).

Daytime and late-night usage levels were also have been up. For instance, since last Friday, Nickelodeon’s portfolio of linear networks have been up 16% with kids 2-11 compared with the prior four weeks.

Ratings experts expect viewing levels’ growth to continue as more people stay home amid expanding restrictions, including quarantines, around the country.

As for any long-term effect, it is too early to say whether younger viewers who discovered appointment viewing on broadcast TV will come back when the outbreak is over. But for the time being the ratings uptick may be the only good news for the networks, which are facing losses from the suspension of most major sports, unfinished seasons as many series shut down over COVID-19 fears before wrapping production, and a pilot-season washout.

Reversing some systemic ratings declines, national TV kids' networks have seen gains over the last week, as more children are now home from school due to COVID-19 concerns, according to two different TV research companies.

Nickelodeon is up 7% to 560,000 total day Nielsen-measured viewers for the week ending March 15, while NickToons is up 16% to 110,000 viewers, Boomerang is 5% higher to 89,000 and TeenNick is up 22% to 77,000.

WarnerMedia’s The Cartoon Network -- the second-biggest kids' network -- is down slightly by 2% to 291,000, while Nick Jr. is down 2.4% to 240,000. Disney XD is flat at 69,000, while Universal Kids is up 17% to 34,000 and BabyKids is up 6% to 33,000.

Traditional linear TV networks have seen declines in viewing for years due to growing digital platforms, including YouTube.
Samba TV -- which culls viewing data from smart TV automated content recognition technology -- says that over the same two-week period, TeenNick has seen total time spent on its network by 171%, while DisneyXD is 68% higher, Nicktoons is 66% higher, Nick Jr. has added 32%, and Disney Channel has grown 27%.

Samba TV has a measurement panel of millions of U.S. homes and measures the time spent watching TV across more than 190 networks from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm local time.

With more people staying at home due to coronavirus, television viewership is reaching massive highs across the country.

The quarantine issued in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a sizeable increase in live TV ratings.

According to Deadline, television networks have seen a massive spike in ratings since last week, when the spread of the disease led to a massive response from government bodies. Schools, places of business and other workspaces began shutting down in order to help curb the spread of the disease and people in general began practicing "social distancing" in order to avoid further infection.

There is a clear correlation between the rise in ratings and the fact that the general populace has been spending more time indoors. NBC's The Voice saw a massive 38% jump among viewers in the 18-49 age demographic on Monday night, while another NBC competition show Ellen's Game of Games jumped 44% on Tuesday night. The CBS sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola and legal drama Bull also posted season highs for both shows on Monday. The children's channel Nickelodeon has seen a 16% rise among the 2-11 age demographic since last Friday.

Broadcast networks are in serious need of the high ratings. With multiple sports leagues cancelling their seasons and with production being shut down on shows across the country, television networks are facing serious loses in the face of the pandemic. Current competition continues to be streaming services, which have also seen a rise in viewings.

Ratings experts speculate that the increase will continue to grow as long as the quarantine and restrictions over the disease remain active.

According to UNESCO, 87% of the world’s children are out of school right now with nationwide closures in more than 160 countries. And kids TV channels are seeing a spike in viewing according to Nielsen—some as high as 58% in the US.

How does that translate to online? Parrot Analytics measured social media interactions, social video views, online research and piracy numbers using a weighted algorithm, to determine demand for the average show (demand being how frequently it’s talked about online or pirated.)

Between March 11 and 23 in Europe, the number one most in-demand show was PAW Patrol (22.35 time more demand than the average show), followed by Peppa Pig (21.27 times), SpongeBob SquarePants (15.15 times), Star Wars: The Clone Wars (pictured, 14.57 times), Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (13.98 times), Masha and the Bear (12.53 times), Gravity Falls (10.32 times), Steven Universe (10.11 times), My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (9.67 times) and PJ Masks (6.59 times).

Meanwhile, in North America, SpongeBob SquarePants still reigns supreme, like it did for the first three months of the year, at 88.43 times greater demand than the average show. While the top-10 shared some similarities with Europe, such as Steven Universe (60.68 times) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (54.09 time), it also featured a lot of anime, including Dragon Ball Z at number four (40.97 times), while Europe had no shows featuring the Japanese art-style in its top-10 list. Other anime titles on the list included Pokémon (35.46 times) at number six, Avatar: The Last Airbender (30.78 times) at number nine and Naruto: Shippuden (29.71x) at ten.

The rest of the North American top-10 was rounded out by PAW Patrol (35.5 times), Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (33.52 times), Sesame Street (31.87 times).

There's Still Opportunity In Media Landscape

I’m sure you have seen your own media usage change over the last week or two, now that you’re holed up at home. You’re watching, reading, browsing more.

Traditional TV and cable TV are reaping the benefits of a captive audience consisting of homebound young adults, frazzled parents and bored kids.

Reports Deadline: “Primetime PUT (People Using Television) levels among total viewers were up every day last week, with strong week-to-week gains on both Saturday and Sunday night. Monday’s HUTs (Households Using Television) levels were the highest for a Monday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 13). Daytime and late-night usage levels were also have been up. For instance, since last Friday, Nickelodeon’s portfolio of linear networks has been up 16% with kids 2-11 compared with the prior four weeks.”

Video platforms have also seen significant audience upticks. Per Cheddar: “Americans streamed 85% more minutes of video in March 2020 than in March 2019, according to new Nielsen data.

- The average person has spent 36% more minutes streaming TV and movies in the last four weeks.

- Binge watching (or watching 3+ episodes in one sitting, per the Hulu English Dictionary) has climbed more than 25% over the last two weeks."

Awesome: More eyeballs, so more opportunity to advertise, right? Nope. The Meyers Report writes: “While 89 percent of advertisers have been disrupted by COVID-19, only a third have canceled a campaign outright. The rest are changing their media mix and/or looking to shift their spending into the second half of the year. Despite the shifting of current media dollars, fully 81 percent of advertisers expect to cut ad budgets significantly this year, and 68 percent expect to spend less next year because of the pandemic.”

Some of that makes perfect sense. It’s hard to advertise for products or services that have been impacted by the pandemic, or to audiences that have more pressing matters than thinking about buying a new car or electric toothbrush.

But it’s worth remembering a few important lessons from past economic downturns. Here is a blast from the past, as reported in 2009: “Companies whose ad spending didn't vary according to economic cycles -- based on an analysis of Ad Age data on global ad spending -- also tended to increase their stock prices an average of 1.3 percentage points annually ahead of others from 1986 to 2006.”

So what does all this copy/pasting I just did tell us? First of all, budget cuts and shifts are understandable, especially if you are not able to serve (the majority of) your customers as you used to prior to the shutdown. But at the same time, a hard “cut and run” may not be in your best interest, if you think your business will still be standing when the economy re-emerges at the other end of the tunnel. If you can’t sell a product or service right now, it’s perhaps the time to reinforce your brand values and consumer appreciation.

And if you are still selling or servicing, for you, too, this is the time to benefit from high supply and lowered demand in the media market. There might be real opportunities for advertisers looking for some presence.

Viacom International Studios to Take Raft of New Titles to New Markets

Viacom International Studios (VIS) has notched up three new distribution deals for It’s Pony, Nickelodeon International’s U.K.-originated series created by British animation veteran Ant Blades.


Storyboarded, designed and animated in the U.K. by Blue Zoo Productions, the first season of the 20×30-minute series has been acquired by three international free-to-air networks. The show will launch in fall 2020 on YLE2 (Finland), Televisa’s Canal 5 (Mexico) and Teleamazonas (Ecuador). The series debuted on Nickelodeon USA on Saturday, January 18, 2020, and is now currently rolling out onto Nickelodeon channels globally.

VIS has also added the distribution rights for new series to its children’s slate. These include Greenhouse Academy, Spell Keepers, Craft Party Israel and The Hood, produced by Israeli-based Nutz Productions; Craft Party UK, produced by KI UK, and Forever, produced by Israeli-based Tedy Productions; as well as IB the Dog, a Danish preschool animation produced by Minicosmos, and Christmas-themed game-show Top Elf, produced for Nickelodeon by Ugly Brother Studios and Main Event Media, which was recently greenlit for season two.

Greenhouse Academy is Netflix's U.S./global remake of Nickelodeon Israel's hit The Greenhouse, whilst Spell Keepers, Craft Party Israel, The Hood and Forever have also aired on Nickelodeon channels in Israel.

The cast of The Greenhouse recently returned to make a coronavirus-themed miniseries.

Lauren Marriott, Vice President (VP) of international content sales at VIS, said: “All these titles bring different dimensions to our already rich kids’ catalog. With children of all ages at home and needing additional content to consume right now, we’re proud to be able to offer something new and entertaining for every age group.”

Nestlé is to develop a new line of ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks themed Levissima Issima water bottles thanks to a new partnership between
brand owner Bagdasarian Productions and Maurizio Distefano Licensing, which manages licensing for the beloved Alvin and the Chipmunks children’s brand and hit CGI-animated series ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks in Italy.

Levissima Issima water bottles are a recognised range of children's water bottles, designed to be easy to carry. The new range will feature five different designs to collect, depicting favourite characters from the series, including Alvin, Brittany, Theodore, Eleanor, and Simon.

The collectable bottles are available now in supermarkets, grocery stores and online.

Airing daily on K2 and Nick Jr., ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks is a highly successful reimagining of the popular singing chipmunks – created by Ross Bagdasarian in the late 1950s – that have been a hit with children everywhere for over 60 years.

Rainbow Secures L&M Deals for '44 Cats' in the U.K.

Italian content powerhouse Rainbow Group has confirmed several licensing and merchandising partnerships for its 44 Cats brand in the U.K.


Lisle Licensing has signed on to license the brand in the country, and the nightwear 44 Cats collection from TDP Textile Aykroyds is set to enter the market through F&F and Amazon. The official U.K. toy partner, Simba Dickie’s Siso Toys, began distributing the collection in February through such retailers as The Entertainer, Argos and Amazon, with Asda launching in April.

Created by master toy partner Toy Plus, the toys are based on key series elements, including music, creative play patterns and collectability. The line includes interactive plush toys, figurines, playsets and musical toys.

Additional deals are in place with U.K. partners—with John Toys and Amscan developing products with multi-territorial deals—and others such as Sony Music, Dreamtex, Redan Publishing, Fashion UK, Ravensburger, Clementoni and Chicco & Bip.

The first season of 44 Cats started airing on Nick Jr., Nick Jr. Too and POP TV in 2019. The CG-animated preschool series follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball – four adorable kittens living in lovely Granny Pina’s house and playing their songs as a music band named The Buffycats. Novel Entertainment is launching a brand new publishing line based on the original stories from its award-winning animated TV series, Horrid Henry.

First out of the gate, and aimed firmly at the Horrid Henry audience of kids aged 7 to 11, the content takes the form of audio dramatisations from Novel Entertainment’s hit Horrid Henry TV series, featuring the show’s voice talent with additional narrative from Henry (voiced by Elizabeth Waterworth-Santo) and songs. The content will be available worldwide as downloads on major platforms such as Audible, Spotify, and iTunes and Amazon. The initial release will see 10 titles launch including Horrid Henry’s Fun Run, Horrid Henry Takes the Biscuit, and Horrid Henry and the Lost Dog.
