Royal Mail Celebrates Classic Children's TV With Special Stamp Set

The licensing business news website Licensing.biz is reporting the exciting news in the following article that Royal Mail plc, a postal service company in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is celebrating over 60 years of classic children's television with a special stamp programme!

The full set of stamps feature 12 iconic kids TV characters, including Andy Pandy, Ivor the Engine, Dougal from "The Magic Roundabout", Windy Miller from "Camberwick Green", Mr Benn, Great Uncle Bulgaria from "The Wombles", Bagpuss, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, Peppa Pig and Shaun the Sheep, many of which have been shown on Nickelodeon UK and/or Nick UK's preschool channel Nick Jr. UK, as part of Nick Junior's Noggin and Nick Jr. Classics programming blocks. Nick Jr. UK also commissioned a CG-animated version of the classic children's series "The Magic Roundabout" in the mid-2000's. Royal Mail's "Classic Children's TV" stamp collection also features Nick Jr. UK's preschool megastar Peppa Pig!

This year is an appropriate time to launch the special set as 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the television debut of "Bagpuss" and the 50th anniversary of "The Magic Roundabout".

2014 will also welcome big screen adventures for "Postman Pat" and "Paddington Bear", while 2015 will see "The Wombles" return to TV in the form of a new CG-animated series.

The stamps are available from Tuesday 7th January 2014 online at www.royalmail.com/childrenstv, by phone on 08457 641 641 and in 10,000 Post Offices throughout the UK. The stamps are available to purchase in various packages:

As a set 12 mint stamps, each one featuring original images from our chosen TV programmes. Made even more charming and collectable by the fact that each character is breaking out of the standard stamp format;

In Black or White wooden frames, where all 12 of the Special Stamps are individually mounted and set within a high quality wood frame. Handmade for Royal Mail in the UK;

In a Classic Children's TV Presentation Pack, featuring a lavishly illustrated Presentation Pack, in which television writer Graham Kibble-White discusses the golden age of children's TV from the 1950s to the present day, looking at a host of iconic series and including individual pen portraits of those featured on the 12 Special Stamps;

In Classic Children's TV First Day Cover packages, available in UK Addresses and Non UK Addresses versions. This delightful First Day Cover has all 12 Special Stamps affixed and is cancelled with a Wimbledon, London postmark chosen as it is the home of The Wombles;

As a evocative Classic Children's TV Medal Cover which looks at the work of Smallfilms, Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate's company, which produced "Bagpuss and "Ivor the Engine";

As Classic Children's TV Stamp Cards, which offers faithful reproductions of the Special Stamps at postcard size, to make a delightful gift;

And as high quality, collectable Pin Badges which have been created from the actual stamp artwork and enable you to add no less than five iconic children's TV characters to any outfit or lapel - Bagpuss, Dougal, Great Uncle Bulgaria, Postman Pat and Peppa Pig.

Also available to buy as part of the collection is a "Paddington Bear" book titled "A Bear Called Paddington", a 160-page hardback edition of Michael Bond's unabridged original story which has printed in full colour and contains a wealth of Peggy Fortnum's wonderful illustrations, some of them previously unpublished;

A soft and cuddly Paddington Bear Soft Toy that stands 36cm tall in his wellingtons and features real toggles on his duffel coat, as well as his famous label bearing the words: Please look after this bear, thank you;

And a delightful Paddington Bear Spode Money Box, which makes a lovely way for any young child to save up. Made in porcelain by Spode, it features charming images of "Paddington Bear" from the popular TV series together with whimsical sayings from the books.

The full set of stamps features 12 iconic characters including Andy Pander, Ivor the Engine, Dougal, Windy Miller, Mr Benn, Great Uncle Bulgaria, Bagpuss, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, Peppa Pig and Shaun the Sheep.
