Nick Jr. UK & Ireland and Fit Phonics Ltd have today announced the debut of a brand new educational show called "Fit Phonics"!
Launching today, Monday 10th June 2013, on Nick Jr. 2, "Fit Phonics" is a exciting all-new interstitial (short form) series aimed at children from 3 to 6 years old. The studio based show teaches children to read using phonics sounds whilst getting fit and active at the same time!
The brand new show is presented by Kevin Duala, a personal trainer and trained teacher in all aspects of Dance, Drama and Physical Education. Kevin is probably best known as co-the star of the UK version of "Blue's Clues" for Nick Jr., in which he gathered clues hidden by his animated puppy Blue. Kevin also has extensive knowledge of television and has presented programmes for the BBC, Thomas Cook TV, Gala TV, Challenge TV and Argos TV to name just a few.
Nick Junior UK's brand new educational series, "Fit Phonics", can be watched everyday, Monday to Sunday, at 7:00am, 2:00pm and 4:00pm on Nick Jr. 2, and will be coming to Nick Jr. (and Nick Jr.+1) very soon in near future!
Experts say children under 5 should exercise for at least 3 hours a day and that children need to get fit. "Fit Phonics" teaches kids musicality and movement whilst learning digraphs, trigraphs and blending letters.
With obesity hitting a record high in children in the UK, "Fit Phonics" aims to make fitness and learning fun and a lifestyle choice that is the norm in households across Britain! If children can link fun & fitness with learning, then learning becomes less stressful and more enjoyable. Fitness and being active can then become part of their daily routine.
Official statistics show that currently:
4 out of 10 fail the Year 1 phonics test
30% of children aged 2 to 15 years are overweight or obese
Research also suggests that you remember more when you are 'active learning' – moving and learning at the same time.
Phonics has been promoted by the Government and in June 2013, all Year 1 schoolchildren throughout the country will be tested on phonics. Most parents were not taught phonics when they went to school so "Fit Phonics" is an perfect interactive way for children and parents to learn phonics together at home at the same time!
"Fit Phonics" was founded by Nicola Stansfield, a busy mother of two who has worked in the TV industry for 15 years, who was inspired by her own children to create Fit Phonics. As well as freelance Vision Mixing and Directing, Nicola also coaches under 5′s in tennis, football and basketball.
To celebrate their brand new show, Nick Jnr. UK has launched their official "Fit Phonics" website to accompany the new series, which features great content from the show, including online streaming videos and a interactive phonics game to tie-in to the series, which you can visit here on NickJr.co.uk. You can also receive the latest news about "Fit Phonics" here on the shows official Twitter profile page, @FitPhonics, and chat to Kevin Duala, the shows host, on his official Twitter profile page, @KevDuala.
