Jeans for Genes has announced the Sponge-tastic news in the following press release that they have chosen Nickelodeon superstar SpongeBob SquarePants as the character ambassador for this year's Jeans for Genes appeal!

Swapping his iconic brown trousers in favour of a pair of denim ones, SpongeBob SquarePants, along with his friends Patrick Star, Gary the Snail and Sandy Cheeks will undergo a denim makeover to encourage people to sign up and help raise funds in support of this year's campaign.

To celebrate Jeans for Genes' partnership with Nickelodeon UK, the number one commercial kids TV network in the UK, and help to raise money for the vital care and support for children with genetic disorders, exclusive trolley token keyrings featuring the iconic and ever optimistic SpongeBob SquarePants sporting his new denim look have been created and can be bought from the charity's website at www.jeansforgenes.org/shop. The partnership will be supported across the Nickelodeon network, including activity at Nickelodeon Land, part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

"SpongeBob SquarePants" is a world-renowned and beloved character-driven cartoon that chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends. The series is seen in more than 170 countries and territories and in more than 35+ languages, making it the most widely distributed property in Viacom Media Networks history. The show has contributed the highest amount of viewing of any show on UK kids' channels to date and is the Number one animated show on the Nickelodeon network. SpongeBob has a whopping 44 million Facebook fans globally and an ample 1.5 million Twitter followers.

Jeans for Genes Day which takes place on Friday 19th September 2014, has so far raised more than £40 million for Genetic Disorders UK to help transform the lives of children and families affected by genetic disorders. Monies raised will help fund the vital support care and support that children affected by genetic disorders so urgently need. The annual fundraising appeal encourages supporters to make a small donation to wear their jeans to school or work. Sign up for your free fundraising pack today at www.jeansforgenesday.org!

"SpongeBob SquarePants" is executive produced by creator Stephen Hillenburg, who previously worked as a writer, director and creative director on Nickelodeon's animated series "Rocko's Modern Life". Paul Tibbitt served as a director and writer on "SpongeBob SquarePants" for its first three seasons and is currently executive producer. "SpongeBob SquarePants" airs every day on Nicktoons. SpongeBob SquarePants is set to star in his second theatrical movie, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water", which will released in cinemas across the UK in 2015.
