Nickelodeon USA to Premiere New 'PAW Patrol Ultimate Rescue' Specials from Early June 2020; 'PAW Patrol: The Movie' Update

Nickelodeon USA will premiere start to premiere more brand new PAW Patrol"Ultimate Rescue" specials from early June 2020! Spin Master, who produces the network's beloved CG-animated preschool series PAW Patrol announced the pawsome news during the company's Q1 2020 earnings call with investors, revealing the it's "one of our strongest themes ever."


Spin Master also gave investors an update of how production on their portfolio of shows, including PAW Patrol is going during to the lockdown due to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic:

"Our entertainment team is working on our third-party animation -- is working with our third-party animation studios to keep the production of all our TV shows and movies on track in a work-from-home environment, and we are fortunate that the animation production lends itself more easily to virtual work environment, unlike live action, which has been severely disrupted by COVID-19."

Spin Master also gave an update on how the upcoming PAW Patrol movie was progressing:

"We also announced PAW Patrol: The Movie, which will be launched in August 2021 in association with Nickelodeon Movies and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The entertainment team is working on completing the voice talents, and we hope to share an update on the exciting cast soon."

However, it's not all good news. The COVID-19 pandemic has hindered sales of PAW Patrol merchandise globally:

"In many countries, since mid-March, consumer demand for our products has been impacted by the disruption caused by the virus. However, we began 2020 with a strong start with double-digit POS growth in the first quarter. Areas of strength included the launch of the new DC Comics toy line, Bakugan, Monster Jam, Kinetic Sand and Games & Puzzles.

At that point, from a brand and product perspective, we observed very strong demand for categories such as Games & Puzzles and activities, which includes arts and crafts, given the new imperative of parents to keep their kids occupied while indoors. Kinetic Sand was already seeing exceptional sales increases early 2020, and the entire line has further benefited from stay-at-home guidelines. We saw similar trends following 9/11, and a lasting positive effects on the category were felt for years. We are leaning into these categories, and we believe that demand will continue throughout 2020 and going forward.

Keep in mind that we are the second-largest games and puzzle manufacturer in the U.S. and are a major player in activities.

Where games, puzzles and activities benefit from stay-at-home, other product categories across the industry has struggled. First is driven by events such as birthdays, a decline, and kids cannot get together in the current environment. This has affected PAW Patrol. Collectibles and action figures are also categories that are seeing declines, which has adversely affected Bakugan and DC Comics, both of which had a very strong start to the year."

PAW Patrol, which was down for the quarter, saw pressure from the combination of high inventory carryover from the 2019 holiday season, meant for media airing, and in particular, COVID-19, as the cancellation of birthday parties and other event-driven sales affected the brand later in the quarter, leading up to Easter.

We are still seeing -- or selling well across many markets outside of North America, including the U.K., Germany, Russia and Mexico, where we saw POS growth in the quarter.

The Remote Control and Interactive Characters segment continued to show declines, led by Hatchimals, offset by growth in PAW Patrol RC and Monster Jam RC. Gross product sales in Outdoor declined by 15.5%, driven in part due to supply chain disruptions and beach and outdoor area closures later in the quarter.

In the U.S., POS for the quarter was up 11%, including Hatchimals and up 19% excluding Hatchimals. In the U.S. and globally, Activities and Games & Puzzles POS was up triple digits, led by Kinetic Sand and Cardinal. PAW Patrol POS was down for the quarter for the reasons I described earlier.

Current global POS remains up mid- to high single digits and is bifurcated by region. In the U.S., POS in the last 4 weeks is continuing to grow at even higher rates than we saw in Q1. Activities and Games & Puzzles POS is showing continued strength. We are encouraged to see that recent POS for PAW Patrol, Bakugan and Monster Jam is now turning positive, together with Outdoors as the weather warms up.

However, in Europe, except for Russia and Germany and in countries such as Canada, we are seeing a decline in POS over the last 4 weeks due to the impact of retail closures in these countries. We are observing several trends, which affected our shipments and POS.

Other revenue, which primarily reflects licensing and merchandising royalties, television distribution revenue and app revenue, declined by $7 million in Q1 compared to last year. The decline resulted from lower licensing and merchandising royalties from PAW Patrol and Hatchimals, and was partially offset by increased revenue from Toca Boca and Sago Mini. We expect this trend to continue for the balance of 2020.

Mark L. Segal, Spin Master Corp. - CFO & Executive VP: So PAW Patrol for the year has largely been down in North America. In Europe, it's been stronger. But overall, PAW has been down from both a sales and a POS perspective. The good news is that, in the last couple of weeks, though, we've seen a fairly material rebound in PAW from a POS perspective, and so that's starting to trend more positively. The reason PAW is down for the year is really in relation to inventory carryover that we saw from 2019, the full TV driver for PAW Patrol, which was The Jet, did not do very well. It's not as well as we expected. And so that actually relate -- that caused some to carry over into the first quarter. We also had our marketing start later in the first quarter. And probably most significantly of all, the reality is that a lot of PAW Patrol purchases are more events-driven around birthday parties or Easter or other kinds of events. And so PAW has suffered from COVID. But overall, long term, we still feel very comfortable with PAW. We're very excited about it, the new content that Ronnen...

Ronnen Harary, Spin Master Corp. - Co-Founder, Chairman & Co-CEO: Just to build on that is that the Preschool category is down, David, across the board as a result of COVID. I would put it in the harder hit category side of the ledger. But from a franchise perspective, we're super, super excited about our new theme, which is Dino Island. I'm extremely proud of our team for producing in our, seventh season such an incredible theme. Very excited for you guys to see it. It is probably one of our best productions to date. And the new character, which is Rex, who's the handicapped dog is coming, is a great aspirational character. The Dino Patroller, which is extremely aspirational. We have a new headquarters, which is looking on Dino Island, which is an aspirational. We have the dinosaurs next in -- with the pups, which is a whole view of unique world for kids who -- to really enjoy, and dinosaurs are classic play pattern for kids. So I think it's quite amazing that we were able to blend those worlds together.

And then looking forward, obviously, the movie for 2021, and that is currently on track. It's on schedule and working very closely with Paramount currently now and what are the marketing plans for that. Very, very engaged with their teams well in advance of the movie seem to market properly. And we also realign all our licensees to make sure that they are getting all the collateral material so that they can start their product development processes early on now to make sure that, for fall 2021, we have a very fresh, new dynamic look in PAW Patrol line or the movie that's very different than the traditional TV theme line.

Nickelodeon's Noggin Hosts 'Navigating the New Normal: Parents Edition', a New Special to Help Parents Successfully Manage COVID-19 Issues

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has created a lot of uncertainty for parents and their children, leaving many parents wondering how to plan for an uncertain future. With the majority of schools shut down for the remainder of the school year — if not longer — it been getting harder and harder for parents to explain to their kids what’s happening when they don’t have the answers themselves.


Noggin, Nickelodeon’s top-ranked interactive learning service for preschoolers, in partnership with Common Sense Media, has produced a broadcast special to help help parents adjust to the unique COVID-19 challenges they’re facing, such as answering difficult kid questions and balancing work and childcare.

Navigating the New Normal: Parents Edition, a 20-minute special to answer critical questions and help parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, explores the science behind kids’ and parents’ stress, as well as coping strategies while explaining the importance of play. The special is available to view now.

Hosted by actor Jamie-Lynn Sigler and featuring experts Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, MD (California Surgeon General), Dr. Jenny Radesky, MD (American Academy of Pediatrics spokesperson) and Dr. Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, MD (Department of Psychology Faculty Fellow at Temple University), the panelists directly answer real parents’ questions and concerns and offers resources for homeschooling, health and wellness and more.

The program is part of Nickelodeon’s multiplatform pro-social initiative #KidsTogether, which uses Nick’s most popular characters to interact with kids and provide tips for staying healthy during lockdown, plus at-home family activities. Nienke en Wout maken in deze video de Nederlandse en Vlaamse winnaars bekend van de Kids' Choice Awards 2020. Dit jaar is het door de coronacrisis allemaal net even anders gelopen, geen grote show, maar toch hebben we een toffe manier gevonden om onze winnaars KCA-waardig te verrassen. Natuurlijk in sommige gevallen met welbekend slime.

De Nederlandse en Vlaamse winnaars van de Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together zijn bekend!

Zojuist is bekendgemaakt dat Gio, Bibi, Steffi Mercie en Camille Dhont de Nederlandse en Vlaamse winnaars zijn van de Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together. De vier winnaars werden op creatieve wijze thuis verrast en mochten allemaal een felbegeerde Nickelodeon blimp in ontvangst nemen.

Bibi won in de categorie Favoriete Ster Nederland en versloeg hiermee Rico Verhoeven, FOURCE en Britt Dekker. Gio Latooy nam de prijs in ontvangst voor Beste Fan Squad en liet de fans van Marije Zuurveld, Quinsding en Stien Edlund achter zich. Steffi Mercie mag zich vanaf nu Favoriete Ster België noemen. Zij won het in deze categorie van haar landgenoten Nour en Fatma, IBE en Jade de Rijcke. Als laatste werd Camille Dhont uitgeroepen tot Favoriete Aanstormend Talent. Zij kreeg in deze categorie meer stemmen dan haar tegenstanders Ridder van Kooten, Amira Tahri en Silver Metz.

Tussen de internationale winnaars die afgelopen zaterdag tijdens een virtueel geproduceerde show gepresenteerd door Victoria Justice (Victorious) bekend werden gemaakt, zaten onder andere Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Tom Holland, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Ellen Degeneres, Henry Danger, Stranger Things en Taylor Swift.

Update (27/4) - Nickelodeon USA is set to premiere Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together, a show packed with stars, surprises and slime--and hosted by Victoria Justice (Victorious, Zoey 101, Fun Size)--on Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). With kids having cast millions of votes for their favorite celebrities, movies, games and more, this year’s virtually produced show will reveal the winners through some of the most creative orange-blimp acceptances in KCA history.

Celebrities scheduled to appear on Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together include: Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Camila Cabello, Millie Bobby Brown, Ellen DeGeneres, BTS, Shawn Mendes, Lil Nas X, Dove Cameron, Tom Holland, David Dobrik, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, SSSniperWolf, and more.

With appearances from cast members of The Avengers: Endgame (Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner), and a sneak peek of Nickelodeon’s new live-action series The Astronauts, from Imagine Entertainment, Kids’ Choice Awards 2020: Celebrate Together will also feature segments unlike any other awards show including: JoJo Siwa discovering slime secretly placed in every area of her home; a performance by recording artist and actor Asher Angel of his chart-topping single “All Day”; and an exclusive look at Nick’s Slime in Space voyage.

Following it's U.S. debut, the special is expected to roll out onto Nickelodeon channels internationally.

Titled “100% PAW Patrol”, the PAW Patrol pop-up channel will air episodes from all six seasons of Nickelodeon's beloved CG-animated series 24/7 between Monday 11th - Sunday 17th May 2020.

Italian free-to-air (FTA) channel Rai Gulp will start to premiere 15 brand new episodes of Nickelodeon Latin America's (Latinoamérica) hit time-travelling series Club 57 weekdays at 21.05 from Friday 15th May 2020! Preschoolers are set for more heart-warming adventures with their favourite coat-clad bear, as Paddington returns to screens in the brand-new CG-animated series The Adventures of Paddington!

Airing on Nickelodeon South East Asia from Saturday 30th May 2020 at 8:00am, The Adventures of Paddington centres on a younger Paddington as he writes letters to Aunt Lucy celebrating the new things he has discovered through the day’s exciting activities. The series is a Heyday Films and STUDIOCANAL production in association with Copyrights.

Following launch, new episodes of The Adventures of Paddington will air regularly every Saturday and Sunday at 8:00am on Nick SEA.

Actor Ben Whishaw (Paddington 1 & 2) reprises his role as the voice of the title character, alongside new cast members Morwenna Banks, Bobby Beynon, Sheena Bhattessa, Darren Boyd, Noel Clarke, Phyllis Logan, Monica Lopera, Sabrina Newton-Fisher, David Schofield, Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen, Inside No. 9), Liz Sutherland-Lim and Jeremiah Waysome.

The Adventures of Paddington will also feature a brand-new theme song “Paddington Bear” written and performed by one of Britain’s most successful musicians, Gary Barlow (Take That).

The Adventures of Paddington (52 X 11’) is directed by Adam Shaw and Chris Drew of Blue Zoo (Go Jetters, Digby Dragon, Miffy, Q Pootle 5), and developed for television and written by Jon Foster and James Lamont (The Amazing World of Gumball, Cuckoo, Paddington 1 & 2).

The series is executive produced by multi-award winner David Heyman (producer of all eight of the Harry Potter films, Paddington 1 & 2) and Rosie Alison (Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Paddington 1 & 2). The Adventures of Paddington is produced by Karen Davidsen (formerly with Disney and HIT Entertainment) and Simon Quinn (Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox), and co-produced by Rob Silva.


The Adventures of Paddington made its world premiere on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Monday, Jan. 20, at 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT), following a special preview on Friday, Dec. 20, at 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Following its U.S. launch, The Adventures of Paddington will roll out on the net’s international channels and branded blocks beginning March 2020.

In the series premiere, “Paddington Finds a Hobby/Paddington and the Stamp,” Paddington doesn’t have a hobby, so Mrs. Brown helps him find out what he’s good at. Then, Paddington gets his arm stuck in a mailbox while sending a letter to Aunt Lucy.

Life is more exciting, fun, and unpredictable with a pony, as seen in Nickelodeon’s new original animated series It’s Pony, premiering Monday 18th May 2020 at 4:00pm on Nickelodeon South East Asia! The 20-episode series follows the comedic adventures of Annie and her best friend, who just so happens to be an enthusiastic, unpredictable, and carefree pony. Following its premiere, new episodes of It’s Pony will continue to air regularly weekdays at 4pm Nick SEA.

The series stars Jessica DiCicco (Adventure Time) as Annie, an optimistic and determined farm girl living in the city with her family and best friend Pony; Josh Zuckerman (Strange Angel) as Pony, who is naïve and impulsive, but loves Annie more than anything; Abe Benrubi (E.R.) as Dad, who treats Pony as a nuisance, but recognizes the special bond he shares with Annie; and India de Beaufort (All Hail King Julien) as Mom, who loves Annie and Pony’s relationship and always has a new project in the works.

Additional cast members bringing characters to life include: Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) as Annie’s friend Fred; Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) as Annie’s friend Brian; Rosario Dawson (Rent) as Annie’s school principal Ms. Ramiro; Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) as the landlord Mr. Pancks; Megan Hilty (Smash) as the too-obsessed-with-Pony friend Beatrice; Yvette Nicole Brown (Drake & Josh, Victorious) as Mrs. Dunscomb; Grey Griffin (Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, The Loud House, El Tigre, Wow Wow Wubbzy, As Told by Ginger, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Mighty B!, Rugrats, The Simpsons) as Henrietta; John DiMaggio (Sanjay and Craig, The Loud House, Futurama, Adventure Time) as Dave the Sewer Worker and Tomatopalooza Judge; and Dee Bradley Baker (SpongeBob SquarePants, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Gravity Falls, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Dog.


Throughout the season, the series will explore the everyday life and hijinks of two best friends whose optimism and enthusiasm turn any situation from ordinary to extraordinary. Whether making an epic quest down the street to mail a letter, heroically saving the local playground with a bake sale, or simply getting a haircut, Pony and Annie always stick together because life is better as a pair.

Created by Ant Blades, It’s Pony is inspired by a short from Nickelodeon’s 2015 International Animated Shorts Program.


It’s Pony made its world debut on Nickelodeon USA on Saturday, January 18, 2020, and will roll-out internationally on Nickelodeon channels worldwide from April 2020.

Nickelodeon is counting down the most out of control pranks from the hidden camera show The Substitute with a new special: The Substitute Top 10 Wildest Pranks. Revealing the hit series’ funniest and craziest moments, the special will include bonus, never-before-seen footage and show guest stars Asher Angel, Cooper Barnes, The Bella Twins, John Cena, Kel Mitchell, NE-YO, Jace Norman, Johnny Orlando, Rico & Raini Rodriguez, Lilly Singh, JoJo Siwa and Shaun White. The Substitute Top 10 Wildest Pranks premieres Saturday, May 9, at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

The Substitute features celebrities who are transformed by a team of Hollywood special effects artists to go undercover as the most insane substitutes, surprising unsuspecting kids in schools, camps and other locations. After a day full of ridiculous mayhem, the substitute reveals themselves and the featured school receives a donation for $25,000.

Season one of The Substitute premiered January 31 with guest stars The Bella Twins after previewing in October with international superstar John Cena and in November for a holiday-themed episode with Grammy Award-winning artist and performer NE-YO. The season follows the strong performance of two specials that aired in 2019 with guest stars Jace Norman and Lilly Singh.

The Substitute is produced by Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation. Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman and Todd Hurvitz (Punk’d), serve as executive producers, with Hurvitz also serving as the showrunner.
