NEW YORK–June 4, 2013 – Nickelodeon's hit animation lineup vaulted SpongeBob SquarePants and the new Sanjay and Craig into the top two spots, respectively, on all TV with kids this week. Number-one SpongeBob SquarePants averaged a 5.3/1.7 million K2-11 and 3.5 million total viewers; and Sanjay and Craig in its second week averaged a 5.1/1.7 million K2-11 (up +16% over last year’s like time period) and 3.1 million total viewers (up +8%). Nickelodeon also landed TV’s top two preschool series this week: Bubble Guppies, which again was the number-one preschool series; and Peter Rabbit, which ranked at number two.

Nick’s newest hit Sanjay and Craig also had a strong showing among kids 6-11, where it ranked as the number-one animated program with that demo, averaging a 5.5/1.1 million (up +34% over last year’s like time period). Sanjay and Craig follows the adventures of Sanjay, an excitable and irreverent 12-year-old boy (Maulik Pancholy, 30 Rock) and Craig, a smooth-talking snake and master of disguise (Chris Hardwick, Nerdist, The Talking Dead). Together, they embark on epic kid-inspired quests that are at times totally ridiculous, absolutely gross and weirdly sweet. The series airs Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (ET/PT).

Additionally, Nick's hit preschool series Bubble Guppies was the top preschool program for the week, averaging a 5.9/801,000 K2-5, followed by Peter Rabbit, which averaged a 5.6/753,000 K2-5.

Nickelodeon also marked its 19th consecutive week of year-over year gains, posting a 2.7/899,000, up +4% among kids 2-11, and averaging 1.7 million total viewers.

Nickelodeon Star and actor Ryan Potter, who portrays the character 'Mike Fukunaga' on the hit live action Nickelodeon show "Supah Ninjas", confirmed the news in May 2013 that Nickelodeon has decided to cancel and not renew "Supah Ninjas" for a third season ("Supah Ninjas" season 3). Although not confirmed, it is rumoured that the reason why Nick has decided to not make a new season of the award-winning "Supah Ninjas" is because of low ratings.

The children's entertainment and media news website Kidscreen is reporting the Nickelodeon News in the following article that the market research company The NPD Group has said in a recent report that with Nickelodeon's brand new television series and a feature film ("Ninja Turtles") in the pipeline, Nick's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is another revived brand which is expected to stimulate the European market, after the toys of the amphibious heroes reached the number-two spot behind "Star Wars" in the action figures category in the UK in less than five months!:
NPD: Furby fervor returns in Europe

The biggest toy in Europe at the moment is small, furry and, not surprisingly, high-tech. That’s according to the latest numbers from market research firm The NPD Group, which estimates that Hasbro’s re-invented Furby is poised to be 2013′s biggest-selling toy across the continent’s top five markets.

Furby was deemed the UK’s best-selling toy this past Christmas following its September launch. Since hitting Spain, the interactive toy has also gained the top position in the toy sales charts, and is now number one in the youth electronics category in Germany and France.

Furby first launched at the end of the 1990s and went on to reach sales of more than 40 million units in its first three years. The new electronic plush pet features interactive technology that allows it to be connected to kids’ smartphones and tablets. (That app-focused approach has been mirrored by other revived 90s brands, namely the recent comeback of the Tamagotchi virtual pet game.)

The toy also helped Hasbro achieve a 23% growth in its first quarter this year, alongside other girl-skewing brands like My Little Pony and One Direction.

The NPD has also cited the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – with its new Nickelodeon TV series and a feature film in the pipeline – as another revived brand expected to stimulate the European market. Toys of the amphibious heroes have so far reached the number-two spot behind Star Wars in the action figures category in the UK in less than five months.

These sales come amid a slight overall sales slump in the European toy sector, which dropped 1% over last year. In the UK, sales in the outdoor toys category declined 21% this year to the end of April, with the cold and wet weather meaning the sector was unable to take advantage of the traditionally strong Easter break retail opportunity. Countering that was a solid 2% increase in indoor toy sales.

The children's entertainment and media news website Kidscreen is reporting the exciting animation news that the Canadian animation channel Teletoon has ordered a second season of the brand new animated space-comedy series "Rocket Monkeys"!

Twenty six brand new half-hour episodes (26 x 30') of "Rocket Monkeys" will be developed by Toronto, Canada-based production company Breakthrough Films & Television in association with Teletoon (Canada) and the Canadian animation studio Atomic Cartoons for season 2. Mark Evestaff will continue to serve as the series' showrunner.

Toronto, Canada’s Breakthrough Entertainment has received a renewed order from Teletoon for the space-comedy animated series Rocket Monkeys.

Twenty six half-hour episodes will be developed by Breakthrough in association with Teletoon and animation studio Atomic Cartoons. Mark Evestaff will continue to serve as the series’ showrunner.

The animated series, which will also air globally on Nickelodeon including in the US, stars brothers and monkey astronauts Gus and Wally.

Nick's new comedy animation Rocket Monkeys follows the adventures of two monkey astronauts and their robot sidekick. When battling rogue black holes, vengeful aliens, criminal masterminds, and rifts in the evil dimension, the universe turns to its bravest and brightest to save the day. In the game, players build Bikini Bottom to their own tastes and are tasked with keeping the city's residents happy by making all their wishes come true. In SpongeBob Moves In players can customize the look of their undersea city with a variety of characters, buildings, and accessories. Residents wish for food and gifts from the various Bikini Bottom restaurants and shops, like Krabby Patties from the Krusty Krab or a bouquet of flowers from the Flower Shop. Once their wish is granted a treasure chest will appear for the player to open and collect gold coins, happiness or a new recipe to add to their collection. When the happiness meter is filled, players advance to the next level in the game, earning coins, game experience and unlocking more quests, buildings and accessories to buy in the store.

Throughout the game, players earn gold coins and Jellyfish Jelly as rewards for performing a variety of activities like granting wishes, building buildings, making recipes, collecting rent and expanding their Bikini Bottom. Players can purchase additional land, ingredients, buildings and decorations using game coins and jellyfish jelly, or an iTunes account.

This week’s Star family reviewers are Kerry and Jez Kemp and their twins Molly and Oliver Kemp, aged five, who live in Killamarsh. They went to see Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer LIVE! at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre. This is what they thought.

Molly's view

Dora is my favourite character on TV so when my mummy told me that we were going to see Dora Live! I was so excited.

I joined in with Dora and Boots as they tried to get Dora’s teddy Osito back from the City of Lost Toys. I loved the whole show especially the singing and dancing and I was able to join in which was brilliant. We were given some blue stars which we had to wave in the air when Dora asked us to and at the end of the show loads of bubbles fell from the ceiling. It was FAB

Oliver's view

I thought that Dora Live! was really good. My favourite character was Boots the Monkey he was very funny and was a good dancer and singer. I liked it when Diego came on the stage he told us about some different animals in the jungle and the noises that they make. He did a song and dance and taught us the moves. Baby Jaguar came on the stage, he was sad as he had lost his squeaky toy so Dora told him that she would get it back from the City Of Lost Toys. I loved the ending when we popped lots of bubbles.

Kerry's view

Dora Live! was an excellent show, the format is very true to the TV series so all of the children and most of the adults in the audience could sing along with the songs throughout. The show consisted of two 30-minute parts with a 20-minute interval which I thought was just the right length to hold the children’s interest.

All characters from the show appear and are life size rather that a performer holding a puppet which seemed to be a big hit with the kids. It was quite interactive, all the children were given stars as they entered the theatre and were asked to wave them during the show.

Even though the theatre wasn’t full the atmosphere was lovely, the show ended with bubbles falling from the ceiling and a big song from Dora and gang.

I would say for any Dora fan the show was magical.

The licensing industry news website Licensing.biz is reporting the Nickelodeon Europe news that Nickelodeon Spain (Espana) is launching a new "SpongeBob SquarePants" marketing drive called "Dare to be Square".


As part of the new initiative, five brand new on-air creative idents have been produced by Nickelodeon's South Europe, Middle East & Africa creative department based in Paris, France, in partnership with Rocket Science, to encourage kids in Spain to take the lead from SpongeBob and shout-out loud that "it's cool to be square".

The campaign is running on Spain's free to air children's channel, Clan TV, as well as Nickelodeon Spain.

The Dare to be Square campaign is backed by a trade marketing package being distributed to all key retailers, introducing the concept by containing a square balloon, a 24-page SpongeBob SquarePants catalgoue plus limited edition t-shirts.

"SpongeBob SquarePants", locally titled "Bob Esponja" is ranked as the most viewed TV animated series in Spain, with a staggering 99 per cent recognition of the property by Spanish children.

Nickelodeon Spain has more than 50 partners including the likes of Crocs, El Corte Ingles, Springfield, Ferrero, Panini, Everest and DeKrora. In the digital field, a recent partnership with Orange saw SpongeBob Handsets unveil three new branded lines in the last two years.

Nickelodeon Spain's "Dare to be Square" campaign is based on Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand's 2012 "Dare to be Square" SpongeBob initiative, which culminated at SLIMEFEST 2012.

Nickelodeon UK is also expected to ramp up the British version of SpongeBob's "Dare to be Square" marketing campaign in 2013:

Nickelodeon's new animated series Sanjay and Craig tallied 3.6 million total viewers for its Saturday, May 24, premiere, driving double-digit gains with kids 2-11 and kids 6-11 and ranking as the number-two kids’ program on all TV for the week—second only to top-ranked SpongeBob SquarePants. Sanjay and Craig earned a 6.0/2.0 million kids 2-11 (up +22% over last year) and a 6.4/1.3 million kids 6-11 (up +31). Since its premiere, the series has had a strong showing among kids 6-11, where it ranked as the number-one animated program with that demo, averaging a 5.5/1.1 million (up +34% over last year’s like time period).

Nickelodeon Australia has announced and revealed the exciting and aweslime Nickelodeon news that the BIGGEST kid-powered, star filled family slimefest of the year is back for SLIMEFEST 2013, and this year it's going to be bigger, better and SLIMIER than ever before!!


This year, on Friday 27th September 2013, Nickelodeon Australia will be taking over the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre to hold the kids channels' second annual "SLIMEFEST" concert, Australia's first music festival just for kids, tweens and teenagers!

Nickelodeon Oz's "SLIMEFEST" event will combine all the best bits from the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards with Australian celebrities (to be announced) and much much more, and of course, lots and lots of Nickelodeon's world famous SLIME, to rock the roof of the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre!

This year the SLIMEFEST experience will be maxed to the limit! A whole new outdoor carnival experience will be there for visitors and attendees to enjoy before and after the show, which will be located inside the entry area. There will be games, rides, food, drinks and merchandise available to purchase and participate in along with some great interactive sponsorship things to see and do! Entry to the SLIMEFEST interactive area will be free and is open to the general public (rides, merchandise, food and drinks additional costs will apply and are not free). Lucky visitors will be able to join in all the fun and games at SLIMEFEST! (Please note you must purchase a ticket to enter the SLIMEFEST show.)
